Title: J.Walker in town?
Post by: RezRob on March 15, 2006, 10:56:32 AM
WIP (Cuz) just said Javon Walker was in town last night. I know it's WIP, but for a rumor it's got potential.

I have it on good authority that Javon Walker IS at the NovaCare facility this morning.

No shtein? I saw Hollis boarding a plane to Wisconsin with a 3rd round pick in his carry on bag.

This rumor started lastnight on the EMB. Some guy with 2 posts said he spotted Walker at the baggage terminal at the Philadelphia Airport. The TATE ran with it and you know the rest. He's still a Packer unless we trade for him.

Really?  Because I heard that the Eagles sent Mike Quick and a scout to Florida in search of the fountain of youth.  Wow, if they get Walker and a 22-year-old quick, we'd be set.  I'm psyched.

They might just be re-signing Grady Jackson.

RUMORS FLY OF WALKER TO PHILLY

Talk radio in Philadelphia is abuzz with reports that disgruntled Packers receiver Javon Walker is on his way to town to meet with Eagles officials regarding a possible trade that would make him the new No. 1 wideout, a spot that used to be filled by a disgruntled receiver who was released on Tuesday.

Although we prefer mongering rumors to shooting them down, we can report with a high degree of confidence that this one ain't happening.

How do we know?  First, a source with knowledge of the situation tells us that it's not happening.  Second, Walker is still under contract with the Packers.  Before he could talk to another team, the Packers would have to give him permission to attempt to work out a trade.  Typically when such permission is given, the dude's agent crows about it in order to shake as many interested parties as possible out of the bushes (or, as they say in some parts, the "booshes").

So the rumors are wrong.  (Gosh, it genuinely pains us to say that.)

Come on... It was some random "limo driver". I'm gonna call Mike Miss and tell him that I gave Brian Urlacher a piggy back ride from Chicago to the Novacare complex. Maybe he'll believe me.

That means nothing, as you've said yourself.  They never tip their hand.  That being said, he'll only come to Philly AFTER a trade has been concluded, to get a physical.  He'll never be here to "meet with Eagles brass".

Mike Miss said a special call came in from the Eagles office to clarify (cough, cough...bull$htein). Plus, the Pack would have to give Walker permission to do so. He cant just fly in and have cheesesteaks with Lurie and talk dollars...come on now

Right.  AFTER trade parameters with the Packers and tentative contract plans with Walker were complete, he would then come to Philadelphia for a physical before any of it was final.

you should also resign yourself the David Culley will be the WR coach for another year!

From the PE.com Coaches File:

Under Culley's watch in 2004, Terrell Owens set a team record with 14 touchdown catches and became the first Eagles wide receiver to earn a Pro Bowl berth since 1997.   :-D

I'm pretty sure you can add a rookie in there are the third receiver. Other than that, you may be right. I cannot think of a single good reason for the Eagles to ignore Walker as an option. Not one, but it sounds like that may be exactly what the situation is. Unreal.

yeah, Freddie Mitchell, Freddie Millons, Billy McMullen, Na Brown, et al were all college studs who were ruined in Philadelphia.

the fact they haven't been able to develop a WR comes from the fact they have drafted dogs.  Reggie Brown was someone they drafted who had talent that you saw right away, so that was a good draft pick and he'll most likely become a very good NFL WR.

what the hell does a WR coach do?  remind them what a down and in is?

i think cully sucks too. just look at the numbers...the only WR that had an very good - outstanding season was owens, who didnt have to adjust to anything when he got here.

just look at this list of WRs
Na Brown
Dameane Douglas
Charles Johnson*
Todd Pinkston
Torrance Small*
Freddie Mitchell
Gari Scott
James Thrash
Greg Lewis
Billy McMullen

you'd think, even accidentally, one of them would have had a 900 yard season

a few of them were actually productive elsewhere in the nfl (charles johson, thrash as a return guy), or at least productive to above average college players (mitchell, mcmullen, pinkston, gari scott).

so i think a good chunk of the blame falls on the position coach.

yeah...lets take a teeny tiny nibblet of my point and blow it up like i was fighting to the death to be right.

thrash is the only WR that has logged over 800 yards in one season not named terrell owens. and johnson and thrash are the only WRs that have had 60+catch seasons not named terrell owens.

can you show me where ANY wr was developed in house and considered a success? i cant.

Even if he's not the 4th, he's a 4th.  I actually like Greg Lewis as a 4th.  I also like Reggie Brown as a 2nd/3rd.  And if he's healthy, I think Pinkston is a good change of pace on the outside... a 3rd/4th option.

So, we're missing a starter.

wr coaches dont develop players...they are there to take the wide receivers  to the other side of the practice field and toss them out routes when the meaningful coaches are developing another position

And if he's healthy, I think Pinkston is a good change of pace on the outside

im going on the premise that pinky isnt even going to play this year...anything you get out of him is 100% a bonus..therefore they are two wr's short

ok, it's obvious that you are not going to get off this point.  you are willing to lay the failure of the Eagles having quality, homegrown WR at the feet of a position coach, however inane that may be.

i, on the other hand, will hold the person drafting these dogs responsible for that.

What have any of those guys done anywhere else?  And Small and Johnson don't belong in that group because they were veteran receivers - they weren't developing into anything other than waht they were.  Gari Scott, Freddie Mitchell, Na Brown, and Dameane Douglas really had a lot of potential that Culley didn't get out of them - that's why they're no longer in the league.   ::)  Other teams have taken shots with those guys and then dumped them after realizing there was no talent there.

Fire David Culley, fine.  But he's not the real problem, the talent evaluation in the draft is the real problem.  A while back I did a comparison of the Eagles w/ some of the other top teams like the Colts, Steelers and Patriots and it was clear the Eagles just didn't draft nearly as well as those teams.  And it's not just with WRs.  The Eagles had one really good draft in 2002, but beyond that they've been below average.  They've blown too many high round picks (McDougle, Caver, McMullen, Freddie Mitchell, Bobbie Williams, Barry Gardner, Matt Ware, maybe McCoy (yeah it's early, but he's certainly giving us reason to be nervous).  Other than McNabb, under the Andy Reid era their draft picks have a combined 3 pro bowl appearances.

I don't mind trying to answer questions, but it's over and over the same dumb thing. How many times do you want to question the Burgess thing? It didn't work out. We all acknowledge that. Hey, it happens.

When you suggest the Eagles haven't done anything in free agency this year, well, YOU ARE WRONG. The Eagles signed what they hope is a starting WILL linebacker, a starting DE and a TE who is going to play a lot.

I'd take Burleson. He's an RFA though....from The Seattle Times today:

QuoteVikings receiver Nate Burleson, an O'Dea High School graduate, will visit the Seahawks on Thursday and Friday, his agent told the St. Paul Pioneer Press. The Seahawks would lose a third-round draft pick if they sign Burleson, a restricted free agent. The Vikings could match any offer for Burleson.

Although the thoughts are nice, cant seeing the eagles pulling the trigger on either:
1) AzHakim is our Greg Lewis
2) Burleson is our Pinkston (with more speed of course after injury)... and he proved he couldnt be a #1 with Minnesota

RJS, your quick attempts to make the room laugh is boring me and you seriously have anger problems. Everyone of your posts are a sentence long and are condescending, in attempt to make the writer feel bad. Please brother, I have a comeback to everyone of your corny-a$$ remarks so stop while you are ahead....

I thought hbionic had some quick wit there so it was funny...unlike your quick wit. Try it on someone else "loser".

Supposedly some Limo driver called Mike Miss today stating that he picked Walker up from the airport lastnight and drove him to the NovaCare complex. WIP was contacted by the Eagles saying it was false. PFT also had a little blurb about it being bs. The rest of the thread is a mixture of stupid jokes and Packers fans hallucinations.
