flying is cheaper by far.  with an RV, you're talking 15 hours on the road, and probably like $600-700 just in gas EACH way.  and that doesn't include actually renting the thing.

I looked at taking the train to Charlotte a few years ago & it actually was quicker for me to drive. Even to take a family of 4 to NY from Philly via Amtrak, you're looking at approx $300-$400.

I'm going to either the NO or Tampa games, so I'd be interested in this.   It all has to do with which game will have the most girls with large breasts going.

youre also more than welcome to grab a room off the block that i book....when i finalize my rooms ill give you the 411
Title: Re: just got off the phone with RJ
Post by: ice grillin you on April 07, 2006, 11:45:41 AM
for the people on this board who have in the past expressed to me interest in this trip....i just sent out the below email to the heads that i had email addys for...this is for you

when: on and around sunday october 15

tickets: i have spoken to a ticket rep with the saints and he has me on his list of group ticket buyers....the tickets are to be released april 24th...exact pricing will be available then but expect the tickets to be between 20 and 50 dollars

there are a lot of people out there i know would be interested in this trip but whos email i dont have or who i am simply forgetting about...so between now and april 24thish could everyone spread word of this trip to said persons...i want at least a ballpark figure of the number of seats we will need and i will reserve them at this time...i realize it seems early but when doing a group like this you have to be proactive...thats not to say in august there wont be tickets around but they wont be with us

lodging: i am in the process of booking a block of hotel rooms...the response on the number of tickets will determine how many rooms i get...from pricing i have received thus far they appear that they will be in the 100-130 per night range...of course that price is divided by the number of heads you have in your room...i am doing my best to get the hotel in the french quarter

travel: everyone is on their own here...i suggest looking into planes trains and automobiles asap to get a feel for the pricing so that you can come up with what this is going to all cost

as i get exact pricing further info will follow...but what i need now more than anything is to get as close to a solid head count as i can...that being said dont be afraid to say youre in but perhaps not 100% at this time.....id rather have a few to many rooms and tickets than not enough...if i end up with a few extras i dont see a problem with me getting rid of them as thousands of eagle fans are going down for this but i also dont want to get stuck having to sell off 30 tickets on ebay in september

note: tho despised by us all...non eagle fans are more than welcome...anyone who may be interested in nothing more than getting crunk in the big easy for a few days...

Ok. Even though I don't know if I will be able to get off because of the new gig, I will go forward like I am going. If for whatever reason I cannot go and have a hotel room booked and bought a ticket then I will just offer up my ticket and room to someone else who is in need of them.

Cool... I can understand that.  I'm on the other end of the spectrum.  I'm putting in for the time off even though I probably won't be here by the time the game rolls around.

for the people here not on my email list here is an update i just sent out...

tickets- while i dont have the exact section as of yet...i can tell you that tickets are going to be $40...this is the only portion of the trip that is paid to me...due asap...if you even have a small interest in going on this trip i suggest paying for a ticket...consider it a $40 refundable deposit on going...if you end up not going selling the ticket wont be difficult...but at least youll have one if you do go...this is the time to let me know exactly how many tickets youll think you need as i will be placing the order in the next few weeks

send your money to:
havas
8219 brooktree st
laurel, md 20724

hotel - this be it http://www.hi-frenchquarter.com/
smack dab in the middle of the french quarter a block off bourbon street...starting this friday (april 21) you may call and reserve your room...504-529-7211...$129.00 per night....making the reservation is no different than any other hotel reservation youve ever made except to get the special rate when calling you must reference the HAVAS EAGLE GROUP...a credit card will be needed to reserve the room but you will not be charged until you check out...therefore i recommend reserving your room asap as there is a limited number of rooms at this rate and once those rooms are gone youre on your own...getting a quality hotel with a locale as good as this holiday inn at the price i obtained will be virtually impossible

transportation - as previously mentioned youre on your own here...ive been told airline tickets are currently going for around $250...

as always forward this email and/or mention this trip to anyone i have not included...just make sure to get back to me asap with the number of tickets you/they want

what kind of work do you do that you cant request a day off 6 months in advance?

My wife is expecting twins on October 4th.  Would I be the worst father in the world if I left for NO for a birds game 2 weeks later?

It probably isn't worth getting shot over.  I'm sure everyone will have fun down there.  I will try to make the game at Washington this year.

I hate asking for time off when starting a new job. It's like "Hey, thanks for hiring me. You don't really know me yet but how about letting me take about 4 days off in October".

I'll wait until I get my permanent shift assignment and then talk to my direct supervisor who handles the scheduling. Right now I am still "training" although I've done thi job before. So I will have to wait a few more weeks to start planting the seed.

so i went down to new orleans from wednesday until sunday and now i'm more excited than ever for this roadie.

the french quarter was barely hurt by katrina, bourbon street is just as crazy as it ever was.  people getting pass out drunk on hurricanes by noon.  and there are even more strip clubs than i remember the last time i was there in 2000.  a few restaurants and stores are still closed but most places have opened up.

but once you start going towards the edges of town there are blocks upon blocks of houses just totally demolished.  pretty amazing thing to see in a very sad way.  you can tell thats literally 1000s of people left right before the storm and just never came back.

on my way to jazzfest there was about a 15 block stretch underneath an overpass that was just filled with ruined cars.  1000s of them.  i guess you have to put them somewhere.  its really a shame because you can tell that the nice houses were built on higher land and were spared the worst of it, and the poor houses got destroyed.  and there is hardly any grass anywhere.

anyway, it was a good place to be for the draft, with reggie bush falling into their lap and whatnot.  i think that made the place even crazier over the weekend.

Needed to gloat.

My buddy and I won our tickets on eBay last week.  We'll be in New Orleans, and we are sitting in the section above the tunnel where the Eagles go in and out, in row 8.  Which is really row 1, because the tunnel is there and all.

And we only paid $10 over face value for them.

Sell one of your kids for some magic beans. Then plant the magic beans and climb up the magic vine that grows. Climb as high as you can. Then magically jump off and kill yourself.

Or just sell one of the kids for money and buy a ticket to NO with that money. Either way, lose the kid.

That's what I thought, I was really just looking for a common meeting place regardless of whether it's a bar, parking lot or behind a whore house dumpster.

I sent the Green Legion site an message to see if it's possible to just sign up for the Sunday event. I'll let ya'll know what I hear.

As long as I can get in the bar, I'm happy.

I can't drink bud/bud light, so I'd end up buying my own anyway. I don't really care about the buffet either & will grab something on the way.

I can't see them shutting down the entire bar for that group, but will check with the bar beforehand.

i am thinking the same thing.  they're not getting any bars reserved.  i have a feeling their schedule just goes along with the normal happy hour specials at each bar.  i mean maybe they get a bracelet  for a cheaper price or something, but some of those bars on bourbon street have all day happy hours.  it won't be a problem to drink on the cheap with lots of eagles fans.

wait a second here IGY, after watching you chow down on tailgating food and beer, you're going to eat...and I quote:

"Eggs Benedict, sausage and bacon, grits and grillades, and shrimp or veggie pasta with a creamy Alfredo sauce. The afternoon's sampling includes Creole jambalaya, turtle soup, oysters Bienville, Duck a l'Orange, and Shrimp Etouffee. Creole remoulade sauces, seafood and pasta salads, ceviche, marinated artichokes, pâtés, cheeses and a variety of fresh fruit. Also included are delicious desserts: pecan pie, chocolate mousse, homemade French vanilla ice cream, Bananas Foster and our famous bread pudding with whiskey sauce. "

I can see Beermonkey pulling up a chair to the buffet already.

better bring the Alka Seltzer, Gas-X, Mylicon, Pepto, ipicac, and mouthwash.

Hookers follow workers' dollars
Katrina labor force attracts them to N.O.
Sunday, October 08, 2006
By Trymaine Lee
Staff writer

For prostitutes working the streets of New Orleans, the post-flood era has sparked a boom in business, largely owing to the influx of an estimated 40,000 to 50,000 out-of-town workers away from their families with money to blow, police said.

It's "like the Super Bowl" for sex workers, said Deputy Chief James Scott, commander of the Police Department's Intelligence Division, from his division's headquarters in a trailer.

Though police are making more arrests for prostitution than before Hurricane Katrina, Scott said quantifying such results is difficult because undercover officers often can't develop conclusive evidence to make a clear-cut prostitution case. It often takes a transfer of cash, "getting naked with them" and clear evidence that the prostitute wants to trade a sexual favor for cash and not just because "she thinks you're hot," Scott said.

Suspected prostitutes in today's New Orleans, where a lack of bed space in the Orleans Parish Prison has authorities routinely transferring hundreds of prisoners accused of more serious crimes to out-of-town jails, are often being given municipal summonses rather than jail time for lesser offenses such as solicitation. And even when suspected prostitutes are taken into custody, they're often back on the streets in a matter of minutes, Scott said.

With the lure of big money and small consequences, he said, the city has attracted out-of-town prostitutes who ply their trade mostly in the French Quarter.

Before Katrina, most vice officers could identify many of the prostitutes by name, Scott said.

Lots of new faces
"It's just a totally different crowd (in the Quarter now). If you look, you'll see more males in the crowd. They have a tremendous amount of cash to spend. And they're out there and they're looking for women. They're looking to drink and have a good time. They're stuck here without their families, and that has attracted prostitutes."

Prostitutes in this Wild West-like new New Orleans have stepped up their game, Scott said, moving away from street solicitation and onto a more advanced means of selling their wares: the Internet. Prostitutes hand prospective clients a card with an e-mail or Web-site address where they can make "dates."

The new technique makes it much more difficult for vice officers to make cases because they only get the e-mail address on the initial face-to-face meeting, and then only if the prostitute believes they're a real customer and not a cop. Only later, after making the date via e-mail, can they make an arrest at the second meeting. Many out-of-town prostitutes have come to New Orleans for the same reasons they might visit another city during, say, a major sporting event. "They follow the Super Bowls, the big games, conventions, things like that. What we have here is like the Super Bowl," he said.

The pimps who run the lives of sex workers also have become more sophisticated. Some women seeking the opportunity to live and work in the United States are being brought in from Europe, Asia and Latin America as virtual slaves and forced into prostitution, a problem that Attorney General Alberto Gonzales is attacking with a grant of $450,000 announced during his visit last week to New Orleans.

Easy out
Law enforcement officials disagree over whether the abundance of prostitutes visible in some parts of the city is the result of insufficient jail space or light charges against those picked up. An order by Criminal District Judge Calvin Johnson that the parish prison release municipal offenders means eligible suspects must be released unless they have active warrants, are charged with a crime against another person or are involved in a drunken-driving case.

And most of the suspected sex workers are arrested on municipal charges, Scott said. Those who are actually taken into custody and turned over to the Orleans Parish Prison are often set free.

"Prostitution has increased," Police Superintendent Warren Riley said this week through spokeswoman Bambi Hall. Though saying the vice squad is addressing the problem, he said that "the primary issue is the lack of bed space at the Orleans Parish Prison, which creates the inability to keep prostitutes in lock-up."

Orleans Parish Prison spokeswoman Renee Lapeyrolerie disagreed. The prison, she said, is following judicial orders to release people charged with simple municipal offenses.

"Obviously Chief Riley is confused," Lapeyrolerie said of the judicial order. Those eligible for release haven't been charged with prostitution, a state charge that would keep them in jail, she said. If police give prostitutes a lesser municipal charge as a way to get them off the street, they may indeed be released, as per Johnson's order.

"No arrested person has been released from OPP because of a lack of bed space or overcrowding," Lapeyrolerie said. Since June, the Sheriff's Office has contracted with other parish jails and the state Department of Public Safety and Corrections to hold any overflow of prisoners, she said.

Another 200 prisoners will be transferred from Orleans Parish Prison to the Louisiana State Penitentiary at Angola by the end of the week.

"There is a constant shuffle of prisoners," Scott said. "We understand that (the criminal sheriff) does not want to fill beds with municipal charges except for domestic violence and DUI."

Criminal Sheriff Marlin Gusman's office has to decide each day which prisoners to hold and which prisoners to release, Scott said, and it's often a choice between a suspected armed robber, burglar, thief or prostitute.

Judge's order is key
Lapeyrolerie said the decision isn't about choice but about the eligibility of prisoners under Johnson's order.

Between June 30 and Sept. 29, the Orleans Parish Prison has shipped 2,279 inmates to other jails, Lapeyrolerie said.

Officials in the NOPD and OPP said eight temporary jails under construction by FEMA will allow the prison to house up to 800 municipal offenders, if and when the judicial order is lifted.

Lapeyrolerie said the medium-security jails will be completed by the end of the month.

Insure these.

As for chauffering, I've got two built in passengers to squeeze into the compact car in my travel group, but I don't mind driving (a bit) in the mornings before I've started drinking if people need to get places. This is all assuming that I can peel myself out of bed in the morning before drikning starts. Which is assuming a lot.

In other words, I'm going to tell IGY that I might drive out to the destruction zone (for some depressing real life slaps in the face before my booze-soaked fairytale life continues) but the reality is that there is about a 30% chance of it actually happening.

i know that have tours every day that go there too.  if anyone wants to be gay like that.

they have sight seeing tours of the 9th ward...i know its no different than me wanting to go but having an actual sight seeing tour is kinda unseemly isnt it

I wanna go on a sightseeing tour of the place where the looters took all their mechandise.  They probably have the world's biggest flea market there...might find a cheap iPod or camera.

My buddy that I go on these annual roadies with just called to say he may have to bail on me at the last minute.  Uncle dying.  Not even a real uncle, but his wife's mother's sister's husband.  He better be farging with me.

Apparently, nobody really cares, but I'm back on 100% certain.  I belittled my buddy into telling his wife he's not missing this game for a non-real Uncle.

Bring on the hoopties....

Here is my recap of the weekend.

RJS arrives at the hotel and meets Matt.
Lunch.
Casino.
Penn State eating ass.
Wendys (where some old lady tried to pawn her daughter off on us. I'm not kidding.)
Bourbon St.

*Scene missing*

Wrestling Havas' boy Clint in the filthy street.
Die Hard getting harrassed by police.
Waking up in all of my clothes.
Hurricane.
Parade.
Feva, M9 and some other jerks.
The worst defense ever.
Strip club (where we are the only white people).

*Scene missing*

Waking up in all of my clothes an hour after Matt's flight was supposed to leave.
EXTREMELY drunk driving to the airport.
Dry heaving for the entire plane ride home.

I now realize domes are for hockey and basketball, it takes away from the true football atmosphere.
The fans are very cool and most do appreciate visiting teams....some even thanked us.
Bourbon Street atmosphere is AMAZING....alcohol, chix, alcohol, clubs, alcohol, nudie joints, alcohol, more clubs, BIG ASS beers, lotta Eagles chants, more alcohol, and oh yea, the smell of puke. :puke
No major affects of Katrina in Bourbon St. area....but the hurricanes and hand grenades did wash away a few brain cells.

Got back last night...  saw Die-Hard and dis12 on Bourbon Street right before we met and shook hands with Jeff Lurie.  He was walking around talking to the fans.  He was trying to cross a street and a car wouldn't stop, so I jumped in front of the car, slammed my hands on the hood, and yelled "Watch where you're going.  Jeff farging Lurie is trying to walk here!"  Jeff patted me on the back and laughed, and said "Thanks, man."  I was hoping for a business card and a job opportunity, but no go.  Saturday night in Bourbon street was pretty cool.  Hundreds, perhaps thousands, of Eagles fan crowding streets, chanting "icehole, icehole" to all the Saints fans.  Many boobs to see, and many freaks too.  Drinking isn't an option down there, it's a way of life.  Those guys know what fun alcohol is.

On the way to the game, the police closed Bourbon Street and whatever the main street is up to the dome for a parade of Eagles fans.  Police escort, and a high school band along with a couple of people in costumes and stilt walkers.  That was cool.

The dome was cool.  VERY loud every time Philly had the ball.  I think it was louder than Arrowhead last year.  Cool people all around.  Very few idiots before, during, or even after the game.  Most people after the game came up to shake hands and say "It's not about the game.  Thanks for coming down here and supporting the city."  Very cool...  I did my part by dropping quite a few benjamins.

The French Quarter is almost 100% back to normal.  Outside of the quarter, there is still a lot of work to be done.  Many houses still in disaster mode, and lots of houses still with the FEMA "X" spray-painted on them.  Also, the building right next to the dome hasn't been touched at all -- looked like it was an office building.  You can see that every window in it is still broken in the picture.

Sunday night after the game on Bourbon Street was very subdued.  It was raining/sprinkling all night, which kept most people away.  Only saw 2 boobies that night, but a lot more of police involvement going.  Only one fight, and that was a drunk chick pushing and yelling at some dude.  All the other cop stuff was just drunks being fools.

Think I saw IGY, but didn't want to say hey and ruin my opinion of him.  Who knows?  He might be cool or something....

A great trip, other than watching the Eagles D suck.  You take away either the punt or the blown coverage against Horn, and it would have been an entirely different game.

Look... I know that for those of us that were in New Orleans this past weekend, there are parts of the trip that are still a blur and all that, but which one of you sick fargs did this?

Dismembered Victim Found in Apartment (http://www.nola.com/newslogs/tpupdates/index.ssf?/mtlogs/nola_tpupdates/archives/2006_10_18.html)

QuoteDismembered victim found in apartment

By Walt Philbin and Laura Maggi
Staff writer

A suicide note in the pocket of a man who jumped off the Omni Royal Orleans Hotel late Tuesday led police to the grisly scene of his girlfriend's murder, where they found her charred head in a pot on the stove, her legs and arms baked in the oven and the rest of her dismembered body in a trash bag in the refrigerator, according to police and the couple's landlord.

The man, Zackery Bowen, a tall 28-year-old man with long blond hair, confessed in the note to have killed his girlfriend, Adriane "Addie" Hall, 30, on Oct. 5, according to police sources and friends of the couple. Officially, police declined to release the name of the victim, saying she was still a "Jane Doe" until the remains of her body could be forensically identified.

"This is not accidental. I had to take my own life to pay for the one I took," Bowen wrote in a short suicide note found in a plastic bag in his pants' front pocket, which directed police to the scene of the crime and gave a synopsis of what he had done, according to sources familiar with the case.

A source familiar with the investigation said that detectives found two pots on the stove, one containing a the victim's head and the other her hands and feet. Next to the pot containing the head were carrots and potatoes that had been cut up, but none had been placed in the pots.

In the oven were turkey-basting trays containing human legs and arms, the source said. At least one of the pans had seasoning sprinkled on the human remains, the source said.

I would think that we must have hit the same, low-life, trashy strip club.  But with about a dozen to choose from, and judging from the few I visited, they are all low-life and trashy.  One I went to advertised "Sex Acts On Stage" so we went it.  It was a slightly chubby topless chick (she kept her bottoms on) dancing around a dude in a banana hammock pretending to suck him off -- from 12 inches away.  Then she had the nerve to walk around asking for tips.  I told her "When you farg him, I'll tip you."  We were asked to leave by a large black man.

You go to a 'nice' strip club for a bachelor's party or to celebrate something. You go to a filthy Bourbon St. shteinhole when you're too drunk to stand. No chance I would have gone anywhere near a nice place this weekend.

I don't even remember the name of the place, but it was in Austin, TX. Me and my boy Zach paid the wax mold lady to come over and seduce our other friend who was in the can at the time. We told her to come back when she sees him and then sit on his lap and do her thing. It was goddam hilarious. Especially when she lights the candle and then flips her legs behind her shoulders. I can still see the look of horror on his face to this day :-D

Rick's is on Bourbon St, dook.  If I remember correctly (and chances are, I don't), it's located within the first block or 2 on the left side of the street heading away from Canal St......not too far away from BBC.

Dude, alls I can say is you should have gone to this place in Sauderton where me and Yeti met up for lunch one day.  On second thought, it's probably best that you've never been there.  I'm still seeking counselling a year and a half later.  But Yeti seemed to enjoy it so I guess that counts for something.

It's true, though.  I've been to (I think) 6 away games for the Eagles in the past 4 or 5 years, and every game has thousands and thousands of Eagles fans representing.  It's always a good time, and you can always find some really cool people to hang with.

The game in Miami a few years ago seemed to be ½ Eagles fans.  There is a woman I work with that came back the day after the game complaining that we were ALL animals.  >:D

That's not what the Saints webpage said.  That's where I got the number from, homes.

BTW: Priceline has some ridiculous deals on 4-Star hotels.  $122/nite for saturday & sunday that weekend is the lowest I found on their conventional page.  I can't imagine the deals if you Name Your Own Price. :boo

You won't have Mrs. Feva crying, whining and bitching in your ear for the following 6 months for bouncing to a football game so close to Christmas.  I will.

The other problem I have is that I'll have to be in at 4am that monday morning, and because I'm the FNG at my job, I won't be able to get Christmas Eve off which means that again... I'll have to leave immendiately after the game which I didn't want to have to do.

IGY,

I flew last night from Denver to St. Louis, and was sitting behind a 65 year old lady that had never flown before, but had to be somewhere ASAP so she had no choice.  She was crying while sitting in her seat, with a plane pillow stuffed in her face.  The lady next to her started talking to her, and between sobs she figured out that she was scared, and not sad.

She bought the old lady two bottles of wine, and they shared drinks and stories the entire way.  By the halfway point, the old lady was laughing, talking non-stop, and having a grand time.  She hugged the flight attendants (who were very helpful in calming her down) on the way out, and exchanged addresses with the lady next to her.

The point of my story, is this old lady apparently has more sack than you do.  Hoyda.

EXACT same situation for me.  On top of that though... there's a Packer fan that comes up to the Eagles bar we go to.  He told us last season that he had a connect and was going to try to get tix for me and 3 other people to the game in Lambeau this season.

Of course, it turned out to be the season opener... and that makes those tix next to impossible to get.

Both of the games I gave the most consideration to going to are now pretty much shot.

Just talked to my cousin (a Bears fan) and he said he's down to go to the Bears game in Philly.  That may be my new focus.  Either that or one of the games at the Meadowlands.

we can sit in a circle on xmas morn and open our gifts.

then we can take to the streets and witness to all the sinners on Bourbon St.  the best xmas gift ever!

My buddy who buys my season tickets called me yesterday.  He's getting ticket/travel packages from an agency in Northeast Philly somewhere.  Don't know which one but we're in.
