Title: Heckert On WIP This Morning
Post by: PhillyPhreak54 on February 08, 2006, 08:32:28 AM
"If there are is a player or players out there that we like and think can come in here and help us we will go out and get him."

That was in response to the ridiculous overreaction by some fans and radio hosts to the article written a couple of days ago.

He clarified the statements about waiting to see how the market shakes out. He said that what meant was that they don't know who is exactly going to be out there yet so they have to wait and see who gets tagged and re-signed and if anyone is cut for cap reasons.

He also said that they will not go into the year counting on McDougle to be a starter or big time contributor because he has to work himself back from the gunshot and missing the entire year. So that leads me to believe that DE will be a target somehow this off-season.

"We will go out and get better this year".

"If we find ourselves in a situation like with Kearse and Owens and we can get players like that we will not hesitate"

"If we find a better solution than McMahon we'll look at it"

The quotes are paraphrased but that is what he said in response to the questions. A good interview. So all of you who were out on the ledge of the Benny Frank Bridge can step back and take a deep breath.

How 'bout kicking him in the nards?

The Eagles will be active this off-season.  Whether or not they throw mad coin at a player is up in the air, who out there is of a TO status between the lines??  I guess Rocky and Witherspoon.  I'm convinced that we'll go out, target a certain player or two and will not lose.  If not, guess I'll be grabbing my ankles with the Birds this season.  They've got to throw some mad coin at Rocky.  This can be our 3rd 'most exciting off season ever'.

it was not a good interview...it was the standard eagle front office speak...say all the right things but give out no meaningful information...i will credit him in that he didnt say anything that he couldnt definitely back up...such as 'we will definitely be active in free agency'...instead he dropped the normal vagueness like what you posted...

"If there are is a player or players out there that we like and think can come in here and help us we will go out and get him."

^^^^
classic eagle FO talk

the interview was basically a save face PR move

now im not saying i believe the article 100%...but if you think the wip interview today was positive and should make you feel better then youre searching pretty hard

oh as far as macmahon he all but said they were going with him again...said that he didnt perform as well as he can and it was mostly due to the injuries the team had...basically saying hes a good qb and with a healthy team around him he will/would do fine next year

all these interviews are a waste of time...obviously, heckert isn't going to give out any information so other teams know the eagles' plans.  i really don't give a crap what they say.  i'm more interested in what they do.

If you believe that they go with McMahon again next year, you're more of an idiot than I initially thought.

...or the Walt Whitman, or the Pratt Bridge........too many fans get caught up in what Reid or Heckert say now, as far as acquiring players, and take it as gospel.

By good I meant that he clarified what he talked about in that article. The backlash from idiots saying "oh no! We're not going to get anyone in FA just like last year" was out of control. I wish people would use their heads sometimes when listening and digesting what they put out.

They're not a stupid organization. They know they need to get better and they have shown that they will spend the cash on players.

But somehow people would rather hang on a few words and automatically blast away at them before the FA picture has even developed yet.

I got tired of hearing about the Eagles won't go get anyone.

i really don't give a crap what they say.  i'm more interested in what they do.

pretty much...that goes for the article the other day and the joke on the radio today...only thing that scares me is that why feel the need to spin today if the article wasnt 100% not what they meant

If you believe that they go with McMahon again next year, you're more of an idiot than I initially thought

i dont know what i believe...im telling you what heckert said...so if you believe and trust him and with him being in the eagle FO im sure you do...then you have to think mcmahon is the number two again next year

or is it a case of when heckert says something you like then you believe it...but if he says something you dont like then you doubt it??

Out of curiousity, PG, who do you think they'll replace him with? I agree with igy, I think they're going to stick with McMahon. Even though I'd much rather see A.J. brought back.

What I got from Heckert's interview was that we're probably going to sign 1 good F/A (my money is on Witherspoon), 1 decent F/A, try to re-sign some of our players due for deals, draft well, and go into next season with the assumption that having McNabb back and the rest of our team healthy will equal success.

As also mentioned earlier (by hunt I think?) these interviews are really worthless, Heckert has a great poker face.

I'll be shocked if they FA a QB.  Certainly, Hall doesn't look like the answer.  I bet they'll draft one on day 2.  Honestly, if it comes down to a long stretch w/ the #2, the defense better be spot on or we're screwed anyway.
Title: Re: Heckert On WIP This Morning
Post by: ice grillin you on February 08, 2006, 09:52:58 AM
it would be nice if they got a running game as well...so that when/if the #2 has to play they will run the ball because they can not because they fell like they have to

I don't see us doing anything different with the QB position.  It'll be the same as it was this year.  And it should, because if McNabb is out we're not going to win anyway, no use dropping money on some backups.

Unless we draft Lendale.  Then we could win with a scrub behind center.  get Lendale!!

I've come to accept the fact that McMahon is coming back as the #2.  I mean, so what if he posted the lowest QB rating in six years.

[Heckert]I'd be shocked[/Heckert] if McMahon isn't the #2 next season.

SHOCKED I say!  :o

I'll have to get my idiot hat too because I can't see them NOT going with McMahon next year. I feel that the Eagles think he has a good upside & that they can coach the suck out of him.

I can definitely see them spending 4th or lower pick on a QB to push either neckbeard or McMahon out in training camp.

The good news is that with a healthy QB, we won't have to see McMahon and his too-close-together eyes on the field, even if he's still an Eagle.

BTW, a lot of attention is given to McMahon, but Koy sucked hard this year too.  HARD.

the difference tho is that koy was a known quantity...it was known that he sucked...which is why everyone pushed for mcmahon to play when mcnabb went down...because whatever he is he cant be worse than koy  :paranoid

also mcmahon represented the eagles 05 free agent class...they went out and got him..so he must be able to play right  :paranoid

The only way we can make sure we don't see the #2 or #3 QB behind center is if we keep the #1 from getting abused.  We need mean-ass blocking TE's and RB's who will make any defense think twice before shooting the gap, and give McNabb time to make completions and piece of mind to know someone's grill is not going to be tattooed on his chest.

Having some receivers that can catch a quick slant wouldn't hurt either.

None of this offseason mularkey worries me or gets me excited. No one tells the world their plans, so it's just a wait and see process.

If they do go out and get players then we all can be happy, and if they don't then we can all revolt. Time will reveal all.
