you dont have to change it everyday...you theoretically could set your lineup for the whole season before it even starts...youd be farged by injured players but you could do it...

several people do it weekly

im pretty certain theres going to be 12 teams...and if so:

world series winner = 200

if theres ten teams then winner take all

i've only played in points leagues before, how does the world series thing work?  head to head?
Title: Re: yahoo fantasy baseball
Post by: ice grillin you on February 09, 2006, 11:30:27 AM
head to head...regular win/loss records like real baseball...play a different team each week...a week constituting monday-sunday

i believe top 6 make playoffs with top two getting byes
Title: Re: yahoo fantasy baseball
Post by: MURP on February 09, 2006, 11:35:30 AM
so one full week of baseball games = 1 fantasy head to head game ?
Title: Re: yahoo fantasy baseball
Post by: ice grillin you on February 09, 2006, 11:38:17 AM
no there are 16 stat categories...8 for hitters 8 for pitchers...each category won during the week = a win

so a split of the stat categroies would make your record 8-8 for that week

the rosters mirror that of a major league team

youll also notice no gay ass split positons or generic positions

straight realness baby

notice the minimum innings picthed per weak stat too...if you dont reach that you lose every pitching category

thats so you dont have one pitcher..who throws a CG/SO...say, corey lidle...and then bench the rest of your pitchers so you win all of the stat categories. it makes you play every pitching position. and not have all relievers pitching.

basically you need some ed wade inning eaters pitching.

Title: Re: yahoo fantasy baseball
Post by: ice grillin you on February 09, 2006, 12:13:59 PM
it forces you to start pitchers...not get a couple good starts and then shut down your whole staff for the week

what i try to achieve is that you end up starting at least one pitcher a night...and that you end up having to start 3rd 4th and 5th starters....not just your ace....again like a real team

I permanently banned myself from fantasy baseball after one year in which I drafted 8 teams (all in pay leagues), winning 3 of them.  I basically spent more time on fantasy baseball than I do now on this board.  Very sad.

We didn't draft yet.  I believe it is this sunday.  You need to get on FA list and pick up some pitching pronto.
Title: Re: yahoo fantasy baseball
Post by: Tomahawk on March 20, 2006, 09:20:03 PM
Even if Clemens doesn't play, I should be alright. Baseball has a loooooooooooooooooooooooong season and I'm willing to wait to see who starts doing good.

Besides, it's an eleven team league so there isn't much available. The only guy I'm considering is E. Loaiza (Oak - SP). Definitely not going to pick up Wakefield or Fatty Wells.
Title: Re: yahoo fantasy baseball
Post by: NGM on March 20, 2006, 09:30:25 PM
11 teams is a lot.  I prefer 8 team leagues myself but when you do get someone of the wire in such a large league its a big boost.

- how long does this draft usually take?
- if someone has to leave at some point does yahoo automatically draft a player for them?
- how long do you have to draft someone in a round?
Title: Re: yahoo fantasy baseball
Post by: ice grillin you on March 23, 2006, 09:52:35 AM
depends on how many people show up and how prepared they are...count on minimum 1.5 hrs

yes...but you have to be careful...for example yahoo doesnt take injuires or retirements into consideration....they rank the players and thats it...for example you could get clemens or a player who blew his elbow out in the wbc

60 seconds

oh yeah true...but its a royal pain in the ass and takes longer than the draft itself to be done properly

at a minimum tho you could just drop down to the bottom all the guys you would not want drafted onto your squad

Nah, I had a few guys who I targeted for SB's but they went off the board when I was stocking up on pitching. So I focused on power and OPS.

I wish I would've gotten a stud closer, but oh well. Hopefully Fuentes keeps up what he did last year and Jenks becomes dominant. I took a shot on Foulke hoping he's grown a sack and his knees are healthy.

Pujols was a no-brainer.  Were you the number 1 pick, or did someone choose A-Rod first?

I love Cantu.  He's going to be special.

Between Glaus-Burrell-Green, one will spend significant time on the DL, OR Bradley will implode.

Zambrano should be set up for a big year. I love Willis, but I can't believe he'll get more than 15 with the Marlins.  Duke has the makings of a stud, and the Pirates could make a run at .500 this year.

If Foulke rebounds at all, he should get a lot of saves.  I think Jenks may have a slump this year.

I agree with you:  Good power and OPS, lousy speed in your line-up.  Lots of potential in your starters (No Myers?), but quite suspect in your relief.

Keep your eye on Chad Orvella for a possible pick-up.  He's going to close for Tampa Bay, and they could be up and coming.  If he starts well, he could get you some cheap stats.  Mike Gonzalez of the Pirates may be a surer bet, but he may have been picked up late in the draft as well.

Pujols was a no-brainer.  Were you the number 1 pick, or did someone choose A-Rod first?

I took A-Rod first overall.

eh whatever...you had some dook, or some johnson that wanted in, so you looked for a reason to do it.

according to your rule, you had since friday to reschedule it, because i had something possibly come up. and you didnt even mention it here? maybe through the league site? or a PM? it's not like it would have taken any longer. as it turns out, i would have been there for half of it.

like i said, you could have handled it like a man, but you Hoydad out and didnt even bring it up before your ghetto fist handed down the ruling. whatever, fraud.

wrong and sun can vouch for this...he got in his brother in at the last second

and im not gonna reschedule a 12 person draft 48 hrs before its to take place

i was as straight forward and clear as anyone could possibly be...dont show up and youre out...period...i dont know how i could have said it any differently

whether you're serious or not, when people don't show up for the draft, it sucks balls and takes longer than it needs to.

so who actually decided to ban me. you?

i'm happy with my lineup, lots of pitching, Manny was my first pick.

baseball drafts take FOREVER though.

i had to be at my mother-in-laws (without my wife, she was working) and i pulled the old, "hey can i use your computer for a minute" to her sister.  then i was in there for almost 2 hours while the kids ran wild.  good times.

why you still need relievers in most if not all slots

a couple saves and holds guys...also good relievers can really help your whip

the baseball pool is for money and not properly tending to your team hurts the whole league

speaking of.   A certain thavas of the Sunnyvale Spitballs has made 1 move to improve his team and hasnt been on the league page in almost 2 weeks.  This was after a similar time period of not visiting the league page post draft.  That is fairly opposite of the original instructions as far as league activity goes which was on the first Yahoo post.

Quote1. only remain in this league if youre wlling to put 100% into it for the entire season regardless of your place in the standings...baseball is long and it takes a special person to be able to put forth six months of effort in running a team...if you wont be able to give that then get out...as the league is a) head to head b) for money and thus should be treated with the seriousness it deserves

Title: Re: yahoo fantasy baseball

you can lock a team though...you could have made moves for this guy...

you bend the rules now...but not when i had an obligation i couldnt get out of, but made accomodations for in preranking where my picks would have taken less than 1 second each, which would have had no bearing on the league whatsoever other than i wouldnt physically be there to push buttons.

I'm still upset I was kept out of the league.  I wanted to join without risking any of my money, but still be able to win everyone else's.  I honestly don't see what was so wrong with that.
