I'd also like to see an IGY first-round mock. Good times.
Your wish is my command, sir.
1. Houston Texans - Reggie Bush RB USC
I floated an idea out there a few weeks ago about the Jets trying to trade up into this spot to get their hands on Reggie Bush. I still think that is a likely scenario for several reasons. The first being that Houston is in dire need of OL help and despite being a deep OT class they could go to #4 to get Ferguson while acquiring more picks to help a franchise that needs all the help they can get. The second reason is the Jets need to make a splash and Reggie Bush would be a rock star in NYC. Not only that but they have a ton of cash tied up in Pennington and Fiedler still on the roster. Eric Mangini's former team found a QB in the 6th round. So if the Jets do address the QB position I think it could be done later. But for the purpose of this mock, I am leaving Houston with Bush. Another thing to think of...why draft Bush when you have Domanick Davis secured long term? They need OL help too bad to overlook Ferguson.
2. New Orleans Saints - Matt Leinart QB USC
The new HC of the Saints is an offensive guy. Not only that but he is an offensive guy who was a QB coach. Leinart comes from a pro-style offense and him and Sean Payton would be a nice tandem. Despite Norm Chow salvating over the possibility of Leinart dropping to 3rd, the Saints take the best player for their team right now. One thing to not forget though...Tom Benson is a cheap SOB. If he decides that it will take too much money to get Leinart signed then he might put pressure on his puppet-boy GM Mickey Loomis to trade out of the spot. But another thing to think about is what if the Saints and Benson do have eyes for the glitz and glamour of LA? What better QB to have than Mr. LA himself?
3. Tennessee Titans - D'Brickashaw Ferguson LT Virginia
There is a high probability that this pick will be Vince Young. But as I stated in FDig's mock on the EMB - don't be so sure yet. The Titans are negotiating with Steve McNair to return and they have Billy Volek, a future starter in the NFL, waiting in the wings. With guys like Schaub, Ramsey and possibly Rivers available via trade they might hold onto Volek because the market won't overpay for him like they would want. So where do the Titans turn? To the top LT in the draft...and a guy that Jeff Fisher and his staff coached in Mobile. With Brad Hopkins old and no one really waiting in the wings this would be a great pick for the Titans. Michael Roos and D'Brickashaw would make a good young bookends.
4. Detroit Lions (from NYJ) - Vince Young QB Texas
The Jets are interested in trading down. They are in a primo spot because Young is still on the board and there are a few teams behind them who would kill to have Vince. Oakland tried to trade up here but Detroit won out. Matt Millen needs an impact pick. He also needs to replace the horrible Joey Harrington and give his young wideouts a chance to succeed. Even though I am not saying what picks and players are traded in this mock I will do it this once... I think Charles Rogers could be part of the Lions package to move up.
5. Green Bay Packers - Mario Williams DE North Carolina State
Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila is a one trick pony. He is a very good pass rusher but he needs someone on the other side to help him out. The Pack could potentially lose Aaron Kampman to UFA so the pick here is Mario Williams. With that GB secondary they need to get heat on the QB with a quickness and Mario is the guy who'll help them do that.
6. Oakland Raiders - AJ Hawk LB Ohio State
Even though they failed to trade up to get Vince Young, they still get a player at a position they need much help at. Rob Ryan's defense was a bad unit last year. They moved from the 3-4 and were stuck without good LBs to help that transition. They had two guys who are DEs playing OLB and it wasn't a pretty site. Hawk and Kirk Morrison are part of a young LB corps who will help solidify that group.
7. Arizona Cardinals (from SF) - Jay Cutler QB Vanderbilt
The Cards are afraid that the guy they covet will be taken by a guy who the Jets are in love with. So they trade up with the 49ers in a move that helps both teams. They are still smarting over not picking Ben Roethlisberger a couple years ago so this time they go with the fast rising Cutler and hope that he can be that rock at QB for them
8. Buffalo Bills - Haloti Ngata DT Oregon
This move seems to be in every mock out there. It seems like such a no-brainer to us amateurs that it'll probably not happen. But it just makes so much sense! They need an inside presence in Buffalo. They are in a divison that likes to run the ball. Ngata will help that defense immensely. The only other way I can see the Bills going here is CB. If they lose Nate Clements to UFA then they could go Tye Hill or Jimmy Williams here.
9. New York Jets (from DET) - Winston Justice OT USC
Well, the Jets lost out on Jay Cutler. So they turn their attention to replacing Kareem McKenzie who they lost last year to the Jints. They thought long and hard about LenDale White here but decided to go with the OL since that was a MASH unit last year. Adrian Jones was a nice find for them at the LT position and this solidfies the RT position for them. Scott Gragg was their RT last year and he is retired and now coaching his HS alma mater.
10. San Francisco 49ers (from ARZ) - LenDale White RB USC
Yes I know they have Kevan Barlow and Frank Gore on the roster now. But Barlow has fallen out of favor in SF and could likely be let go. With Alex Smith running the show there they need a dependable running game. White gives them a 25-carry a game back who can keep the chains moving and keep Smith from those 3rd and longs.
11. St. Louis Rams - Jimmy Williams CB Virginia Tech
Did you see that secondary last year? Yeah, so did I. And more importantly so did the Rams front office. They hired Jim Haslett to be their new DC. Haslett is of the Blitzburgh family and in order to blitz you better have some corners who can be out on an island. Williams gives Haslett some size and strength to help match up with Fitzgerald, Boldin and Darrell Jackson.
12. Cleveland Browns - Marcus McNeill OT Auburn
Romeo Crennel and Phil Savage have themselves 4/5th's of a good OL. They signed Joe Andruzzi and Cosey Coleman last year. They had Jeff Faine as a leftover from the Davis regime and they signed LJ Shelton to be their LT. Their weakspot s the RT position and they hope McNeill can be the guy to solve that. They must keep Charlie Frye clean. And with McNeill in themix they now have a solid OL.
13. Baltimore Ravens - Demeco Ryans LB Alabama
Baltimore could go with a RB here, but their LB corps need some help too. Ray Lewis is a shell of his former self and while Tommy Polley and Bart Scott were nice finds for them, they need some youth there as well. Scott could be the MLB of the future once Ray leaves. They also have Adalius Thomas too, but I believe Ryans would be a good fit for them.
14. Philadelphia - Mathias Kiwanuka DE Boston College
Ok, I admit I like Kiwi a lot. I wouldn't mid trading out of this spot and moving down to get an additional 2nd rounder either. It was either going to be McNeill or Kiwi here and Kiwi is still on the board. We all know the DE rotation needs help. So while moving down several spots and possibly grabbing Brodrick Bunkley crossed my mind, I am going to stand pat and take Kiwi. A trio of Kearse, Cole and Kiwi could be something special. Andy Reid knows he needs help up front so he will make this pick and not think twice about it.
15. Atlanta Falcons - Michael Huff SS Texas
The Dirty Birds need help at safety in a bad way. Huff is the perfect choice for them here. They gave up way too many deep balls last year once teams ignored Hall's side of the field. That tells you that their safeties weren't very good at helping the other corner.
16. Miami Dolphins - Tye Hill CB Clemson
Patrick Surtain is gone and Sam Madison is aging. Nick Saban is a defensive guy and he knows how much great corner play means to a defense. The Fins need help on that side of the ball mostly and this is where the rebuilding begins for their D.
17. Minnesota Vikings - Chad Greenway LB Iowa
Brad Childress' first pick as a head coach goes to the defensive side of the ball. The Vikings sorely need better LBs and Greenway is a solid pick at this spot. EJ Henderson, Sam Cowart and Keith Newman are not spectacular. Look for Greenway to be the WIL, Napoleon Harris to move back inside and Dontarrious Thomas to play the SAM.
18. Denver Broncos (from DAL) - Vernon Davis TE Maryland
One thing missing in that Denver offense is a dominant underneath presence. They haven't had one since Shannon Sharpe left. They have a lot of flexibilty here with having two first rounders as well. If they acquire Owens this could be a very dangerous offensive team.
19. San Diego Chargers - Santonio Holmes WR Ohio State
Holmes is the cream of a weak wide receivers crop. The Chargers have a stud RB and a stud TE in place. The only thing they are lacking is a stud WR. They hope that Holmes can turn into a Steve Smith type player for them. Keenan McCardell is old. Eric Parker is a good possession guy and Reche Caldwell is pretty much just a guy. Thy drafted Vincent Jackson last year and they hope that a Holmes-Jackson starting duo isn't far away in the future.
20. Kansas City Chiefs - Eric Winston OT Miami
Willie Roaf is getting up there in years and that team needs a great run blocking OL. When Roaf was out they were hurt in many ways. Not only did they miss him but they had to use Gonzalez as a blocker. They were hoping Santonio Holmes fell to them but since he didn't they go OL here. With Will Shield getting up there too OL depth is a must. Roaf plays one more year and while he does Winston cuts his teeth as a RT before moving to the left side. John Welbourn goes back to his 6th man role and will take over for Shields when he retires.
21. New England Patriots - DeAngelo Williams RB Memphis
The Pats need secondary help. They would love to get Williams or Hill somehow but it just doesn't work out for them. Ashton Youboty could be a guy who they look at here but since Dillon is aging and with no real depth behind him they draft their RB of the future. Williams will be valuable to Belichick despite Dillon still being the guy.
22. Dallas Cowboys (from DEN via WAS) - Darnell Bing S USC
Dallas needs a FS so Roy "I should be a LB" Williams can play where he is most effective...in the box supporting the run and not having to watch Santana Moss grill him regularly. Bing gives them a guy who can play CF and roam.
23. Tampa Bay Bucs - Claude Wroten DT LSU
Tampa struck gold with getting a very good year as Chris Hovan as the undertackle. But there have been reports out there that the Bucs may have to ask Booger McFarland to take a paycut. What if he refuses? Even if he doesn't the Bucs still need to add some depth at the DT position.
24. Cincinnati Bengals - Tamba Hali DE Penn State
The Bengals are overjoyed that Hali is here for them. They need someone to help put pressure on the QB big time. He'll team with Justin Smith and David Pollack in a decent rotation.
25. New York Giants - Ashton Youboty CB Ohio State
Tom Coughlin goes with Youboty here because he has zero faith in Curtis Deloatch and Frank Walker. You probably figured that out when they had Terrell Buckley matched up on Steve Smith in the playoffs, right? He had a public spat with Will Peterson over his back injury so he's as good as gone. A Will Allen-Corey Webster-Ashton Youboty threesome will help the G-Men.
26. Chicago Bears - Marcedes Lewis TE UCLA
Wow...did he really fall this far? He sure did. And it isn't necessarily because he is a bad player because I think he will be a very good TE in the NFL. Chicago has eyes for a difference making TE and they are thrilled that Lewis dropped this far. Remember..Todd Heap fell to the last pick a few years ago and Jason Witten fell to the early third round so him dropping to 26th isn't too far fetched.
27. Carolina Panthers - Laurence Maroney RB Minnesota
DeShaun Foster is injury prone and a free agent. Stephen Davis is about done and Nick Goings, He Hate Me and Jamal Robertson aren't starting backs. I think that the Panthers could be a strong contender for Edgerrin James' services in FA. If they do land him they will not go RB first.
28. Jacksonville Jaguars - Thomas Howard LB UTEP
The Jags defense was pretty darn good last year. They could use some help at corner but there is no value there at this pick. So they look to replace Akin Ayodele with Thomas Howard. They tried twice to replace Ayodele last year (Nate Wayne & Jamie Winborn) and neither worked out for them. They still have Winborn on their roster as well as Daryl Smith. But the value of Howard here is too much to pass up. A starting LB corps of Howard-Peterson-Smith is very nice.
29. Denver Broncos - Brodrick Bunkley DT Florida State
The Broncos got good mileage out of the Cleveland Browns castoffs last year. But they still would like to add some youth to the DT position and Bunkley is a guy who might not even be here at 29 in April. He would give them a nice pocket collapsing tackle for sure.
30. Indianapolis Colts - Bobby Carpenter LB Ohio Stare
Their current SLB (Thornton) is a free agent and might go elsewhere. So the Colts, who would love to see Maroney be here for real, will select Carpenter to help bolster a defense that is starting to turn it around.
31. Pittsburgh Steelers - Jonathan Scott OT Texas
If the Steelers have a weakness it is at the OT position. When Marvel Smith went down early in the year they had some troubles blocking the pass rushers and opening holes for the backs. When he returned it helped immenesely. They like Trai Essex but Scott is too good to pass up here.
32. Seattle Seahawks - Manny Lawson DE North Carolina State
The 'Hawks have the luxury of taking the BPA here. Even though their defensive line got pressure all year long they could still use another guy who can get after the quarteback. Lawson is a favorite of mine. He could still end up being an OLB in the NFL. But even if he is moved to LB it gives the Hawks one helluva lineback corps

A born journalist if ever I met one.
Or spammer.
No, I wrote everything there. But I posted it on another MB in the mock draft section. I just copied it from my post there and pasted it here.
Like I said.
So I should've written it all out again?
Yes.

Oh, sorry. I only read the part about pasting it. You actually "wrote" that? ;)
Yes.
Heh. Well, I still think you're well on your way to a career in sports journalism, even if you did write that yourself.
Thanks...I think. ;D
pretty impressive that you had that whole post ready 17 minutes after dude started this thread.
All's I had to do was copy my thread from the EMB that I started yesterday. Is that impressive? :sly
yes, is usually takes far more time than 17 minutes to copy and paste something. Hail Phreak. Keyboard command GOD!
