At FOX, James Brown is leaving the pregame show to host the competition's effort at CBS. Likely replacing Brown at FOX will be Terry Bradshaw, who'll slide over one spot behind the desk. This opens up a seat at the FOX grown-up's table -- and we'll cast the first ballot now for anyone but Tony Siragusa to roll up a chair.
Brown's arrival at CBS bounces Greg Gumbel and the pet rat that sleeps on top of his head to the No. 2 broadcast team, with once-upon-a-time Monday night booth guy Dan Dierdorf. The move displaces Dick Enberg, who wasn't happy about it. Not one bit.
I don't like this. I liked James Brown on FOX, but I think Gumbel is one of the worst play by play guys ever. He just doesn't get excited enough or have the voice for it.
Massive news!! Fox should get Papa Bear O'Reilly to anchor the desk.
CBS also needs some sideline reporters. Bernstein is leaving and Ketiyan is going to CBS News.
Fox said nothing about a replacement. But, for CBS, this move pretty much eliminates Don Criqui from doing games. :yay
James Brown is big enough to join WWE.
I thought JB fit in well at FOX. They are going to need to find someone else who can successfully moderate that nuthouse.
I guess there will be quite a number of changes in televised football next year.
He said the clincher was that he could announce basketball (Gumbel will remain studio man)......
it will be weird to see Brown on CBS, it will be awful to have Bradshaw hosting on Fox, and I think Dick Enberg is a good play by play guy
And FOX made th horrible decision to replace him with Joe Buck.
They will now do the pre-game from the site of the game that Buck is broadcasting. I bet that makes Bradshaw, Johnson and Long happy that they will have to travel every week.
Curt Menefee will do the halftime and post-game stuff.
that sucks
I never watch the pre-game show and I'm always too loaded to care about the post-game.
Yay me.
(And alcoholism.)
That means they'll be here on 10/8...
ESPN had a pretty good pre-sunday show except Michael Irvin. Tom Jackson, Berman, Mort, and Young are all very good.
Dumb decision. But does it really make a difference?
