Title: I started a band
Post by: Father Demon on January 14, 2006, 01:44:53 PM
I started a band about 6 months ago, mostly playing covers, but have a few originals we slip in when the crowd has been drinking long enough.  Our sets usually go over pretty well, especially when we take the stage later rather than earlier in the line-up.

Anyway, we had a gig last weekend for a block-party.  I think it went pretty well -- at least we had the crowd dancing and rocking.  The weather couldn't have been nicer.  I taped the warm-up (about 2 hours before the show) so I could see where improvements should be made, if we missed any marks, and the overall performance.  I'm the lead singer, my buddy Rocco is banging the drums, and Phanatic is on lead guitar.  One of his friends is tickling the ivories on the synth.  I have to say -- even though the actual show went much better, I think we pretty much nailed the warm-up.

"The Final Countdown," eh?  You should have put the link in the Al-Zawahri thread.  ;)

Sounds good.  :yay

QuoteDon't Start a Band - by Reel Big Fish
Don't start a band
no body wants to hear no body understands
don't start a band
you'll be so disappointed that it was nothing like you planned
Don't start a band
oh yea yea yea

I hate to ruin the magic
I hate to kill the dream
but once you've been behind the scenes then you'll know just what I mean
you might think that's its cool to get up on stage
and play rock and roll with your heart and soul
but no one shows up and your songs all suck
and there's no applause and no flying bras
no girls will scream for you and no ones gonna sing along with you

Don't start a band
no body wants to hear nobody understands
don't start a band
you will be so damn terrible they'll all think your zesty
don't start a band
oh yea yea yea
'cause you wont get paid
and you won't get laid

and even if you make it
all the way to MTV
I don't think you could take it
all the bullshtein and the greed
everyone is so fake when they shake you hand
and they kiss your ass 'cause they're makin' cash
and the business end will turn every friend
to an enemy oh you will see

they'll turn their their backs and they'll be gone
faster than can say 'what did I do wrong'

Don't start a band
no body really cares nobody understands
Don't Start a Band
you will sign your life away and then you'll be working for the man
don't start a band oh yea yea yea

your message will get lost
you will be double crossed

and if you think that the joy of playing
will keep you going through the years
wait till you poor and frustrated
and the fun just disappears
nobody cares what you have to say
and no ones gonna listen anyway

rock and roll will bring you down
and it will kick you while your on the ground

don't start a band
don't even try you will regret it yea
don't start a band
you'll be so disappointed that it was nothing like you planned
Don't start a band
oh yea yea yea

so just give up now
I'll show you how

Don't start a Band

Oh, I get it...  you guys are all like Simon Cowell.  Never been in a band, but you think you can just judge and critique.  Well, let me tell you something....  it's not easy being up on a stage busting your nuts to sound exactly like Joey Tempest.  The guys has pipes, and I've been training to get his vocals down.

It's work for me to rock the house, so people like you can groove it down.....

if you react to a few innocent comments on a message board like this, then you don't have the toughness to be in a band.  and what the farg did you expect from this message board.

and anybody who says this:
QuoteOne of his friends is tickling the ivories on the synth.

should be assassinated by andrew cunanan

Can I add your band to my ghoulpool?  Someone's gonna kill you guys for that performance (your future's already dead, so it's a little late to add that).

What part of warm up did you not understand? That's why it sounds a little rough.  Of course I put more effort into my real shows. You guys that are criticizing -- when you are up on a stage giving 110% to your fans, then come talk to me.  My groupies love my vocals.  Chicks especially. When was the last time you had someone throw their underwear at you? Now.... when was the last time it was a female? Thats what I thought.

I really liked it.  Being in a band is a great way to express yourself and rock out.
If you ever feel like you need another vocalist, I've been told I'm pretty good.  I'm also in a band called Prophet Margin.  We have a lot of fun playing East coast gigs and stuff.  An exec from A&R is talking to our lawyer about signing us, but you never know.
Here's a Sample (http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=7536561184850388745&q=dazz).

William Hung can not compare to the great vocals I provide to this band.  Period.

I play a kickass air guitar, air sax, air drums and air triangle.  No lessons.  Learned them all myself.
