McMahon
Kalu
Mahe
Simoneau
Jones (or moved to WLB)
Wynn
Anyone else??
Simoneau and Jones dont need to go, I dont even know why you said Simoneau. He's been the 2nd best LB this season behind Trotter. Otherwise I agree with your list.
Adams (FA anyway)
McMullen
Detmer...
According to Reuben Frank, say goodbye to these guys:
Dhani
G.Lewis
McMahon
Walker
Gordon
Runyan
Detmer
Fraley
Spach
Buckhalter
Kalu
J.Thomas
Ena
Roper
Ford
Brewer
Hall
..and of course, "Eagles WR #81"
From Spadaro after the game:
QuoteI think the Eagles need two new backup quarterbacks ... Yes, I do. But the answer is not Garcia, according to those who have seen him play this year.
out of big ed's list, the only player i'd miss is runyan.
and does anyone think aaron brooks might be available?...i think he's done in new orleans/san antonio/wherever.
It's the end of an era if Neckbeard leaves. :(

Probably, Saints are in a position to draft Leinart, and they have McPherson.
Brooks will be released, but I think he'd rather go somewhere where he'd have a shot at starting, like Baltimore...
Of Reuben's list, I'd like to see them bring back Runyan if they can reach a reasonable 1-2 year deal...he's solid, doesn't make many mistakes, is a grizzled Vet on a line that's going to have a lot of young, inexperienced players next season, and plays every game.
Not that I'd miss them, but I'd be surprised if the Eagles cut GLew or Darwin Walker. Also, wouldn't Dhani represent a bit of a cap hit?
I agree Ed...I doubt Brooks would want to back-up on the Eagles, when there are at least 4-5 teams who would sign him to at least challenge for a starting job in 2006.

I wish Sims was on that list, and Runyan was not. I do not think Andrews can be an NFL tackle, he's just not agile enough.
Runyan just can't leave. We have so many other needs to address we can't add offensive line to that list.
I'm with Joel, I wish Sims were on that list and Runyan not. I don't know that I want to be rid of Gordon that quickly, though. Clearly, Moats has some talent. But he and Westbrook are the same game. Has Gordon been so bad that he can't be the change-of-pace back?
Also, Josh Parry and Bruce Perry can go, with thanks for their efforts.
Unless we're going to get really good replacements, I see no need to get rid of Runyan, Gordon, Greggie, Detmer, and Walker.

While I agree with Runyan and Walker, Greggie has proven to be nothing other than a mediocre #3, and Detmer sucks at this point. I hope they sign a competant #2 QB (Kitna would fit the bill) and draft a #3 QB.
Again, unless we're going to get really good replacements.

Eagles are in dire need of upgrades at many positions!!
--Need to keep Runyan though as you cant start 2 new OTs as Tra Thomas is outta here.
--Need a quality DT, maybe Larry Triplett from the Colts. Grasmanis and either Walker or Rayburn are gone.
--Time to realize that McDougle is just a bust. Need to bring in a starting DE as Cole may just be another ND Kalu, a good role player.
--NECKBEARD SUCKS!!
-- Need a new SSLB. Move Dhani to WLB.
-- Bring in a GM, Reid needs to concentrate on coaching. IMO, Im sick and tired of the "complicated" system crap in developing Offensive players, its time to change the system. Run the damn ball, control some clock and keep the D off the field.
Reuben's list has 17 birds gone! shtein, let's just hold public auditions already ala Vince Papale.
Good lord watching McMahon today was painful. Nice try but every step forward was followed by two back. We had this game. Aron Brooks, no thank you. I'd rather see Kurt Warner or even Brad Johnson before Brooks. Hell, lets go after Patrick Ramsey.
Bruce Perry played his guts out today. I loved it.
I really dont see why they wouldnt bring Runyan back. They have enough Oline stuff to sort out without him leaving too. He is the only consistent guy on the line. arg!!!!!!
I wouldn't mind Runyan gone if we didn't have so many other needs. If we were fine at linebacker or the defensive line then okay, we have a high pick and we take a good offensive lineman in the first round. But I simply don't see how we can't take defense with that first round pick. So where exactly would Jon's replacement come from if he left? I don't see any tackles as good as he is in the potential free agent pool.
should be interesting to see which Eagles coaches/office go this offseason. Childress, Heckert, Morninwheg, JJ. Think all 4 of them are back next year? I dont.
JJ will be back. Childress will get a head coaching spot somewhere (Houston, Detroit or Minnesota). Brasher is retiring. And why does Culley still have a job here?
Ed you say that like you know it, but you dont. Unless...you really know stuff.

What about Heckert?
Not sure, but Spadaro says that if Heckert leaves for Minnesota, they'd likely promote Jason Licht...
If Childress gets hired, Mariucci would be a strong candidate to take his place in my opinion.
I would be suprised if Walker and Lewis are gone, Lewis was just signed to a long-term deal a year ago and Walker still has a few left on his. Both are solid players they just aren't #1 type guys.
Who really needs to go is Andy Reid and his damn pass happy offense. I blame this entire season on him he basically allowed his whole offense to get murdered. I know Reid isn't going anywhere but I am beginning to have serious doubts as to whether the Eagles will ever win a Super Bowl under his guidance. He needs to do some serious reevaluating of his playcalling. It seems like he gets worse every season and he chokes in big games.
Walker and Lewis are fine as long as they're not counted on to be The Guy at their respective positions.
Jones sucks at SLB. I think he could be good at WLB, so either move him over or give him the axe.
The HB situation will be interesting. You figure we'll keep 3-4 guys, and Westbrook and Moats are locks to make the squad. Gordon looked decent but not great when he got touches this year, I think he would've benefitted from getting a consistent 8 carries a game rather than hardly being used some weeks like he was. Perry showed a lot of good things in the last few games, and you have to imagine we'll draft someone--plus there's still Buckhalter, we obviously can't go into the season depending on him to be healthy but if he does stay healthy he'll be a good addition to the offense. And there's still Reno, who doesn't seem to be able to get himself cut no matter how badly he sucks. The competition for the last 1-2 spots in training camp should be exciting.
As for Runyan, I'd like to keep him around. You can never have too many good OLs, and his veteran leadership will be huge on a line that will have a lot of young guys. Plus he never gets hurt. I do think we need to use a high pick on an OT this year, though. Tra's days are numbered and we need someone who can be our future LT.
A real backup QB is definitely high on the list of priorities...I've never been a big Garcia fan but he could be the way to go here.
Actually, I'd like to keep Perry around. He becomes the third scatback, I know, but damn he looks good as a dedicated KR.
I wouldn't be surprised if Walker was gone, he probably makes too much money to be the 3rd or 4th guy in a DT rotation.
as far as Runyan, i hope they bring him back too, but they won't sign him if there is another team out there that is willing to give him 4 or 5 years with a big bonus just so they can lure him away. the Eagles won't go over their number for him, no matter what.
i was encouraged by Shawn Andrews comments in the paper today, he said he was going to lose 40 to 50 pounds this offseason. and he said he was going to do that, he didn't say he was going to try to do that.
I just read Runyan's comments in the Inquirer this morning, and I now don't think he'll be back. He'd like to end his career in Philadelphia, but the tone of his comments leads me to believe that unless the offers between the Eagles and another team are similar, he's going to go to the higher bidder, since he assumed the risk of playing out the last year of his deal (can't say I blame him). Shame the Eagles didn't work out a one or two year extension before October.
I could possibly see Walker included as part of a draft-day deal to move up, but not cut outright...not with the lack of depth they already have on the DL, and he can play both positions. He still has some value, even if it's not quite as high as it was two years ago.
i thought the Eagles had a deal with Runyan before the season started where he was going to take a pay cut this year and they were going to extend him a year or two, whatever happened to that?

Did you read this from Eckel's column----
Runyan's original contract with the Eagles was for six years and $30 million, and included a $6 million signing bonus. Told he could double that signing bonus this time, he didn't blink.
"Maybe get even more," he said with a smile.
Now, ,I always thought Runyan got a 10M bonus fro the Eagles, but maybe it was 6M--but DOES ANYONE THINK some team is going to pay a 32 year old RT a 12M signing bonus?
No, I hadn't seen that...but, I agree with you. I can't see Runyan getting a $12 mil+ signing bonus from anyone.
He's still a solid tackle who never misses a start, but at his age, he's not a stalwart you can put on the end of your line and not worry about that position again for five years, like he was five years ago.
this will be runyan's last contract of his career....he'd be foolish to do anything but go to the highest bidder.
and back on the front office thing...childress & heckert are already rumored to be receiving interest elsewhere.
andy reid needs to go
for no other reason than that laughably awful challenge he made yesterday...i mean that was on some pop warner ish...what is wrong with that man once the game starts...hes brain dead
the qb sneak call was a friggin joke to....has there ever been a qb sneak called in the nfl on 1st and 10 from the 11 yard line
QB sneak and a QB draw are different. McMahon has scored a few times this year rushing so I wouldnt say it was shocking. Stupid though, I agree.
from the four or five yard line on 2nd or 3rd down yes...not from the 11 on first down...if youre gonna run it in that situation just give it to the rb...amazingly bizarre call

I'm not going to pen him into the 2006 roster yet, but I agree he should be brought back into camp. Of course, if Moats steps up as the KR guy or if JR Reed comes back, that hurts Perry's chances considerably.
Reed ain't comin' back. Love it if he did, but he ain't.
He has about as much chance of coming back as Thomas Tapeh or Reggie White.

Not anymore, no. Still, get a blood clot to loosen up during surgery and you've got a good shot.
good point
And you don't really need to be dead to not play in the NFL. I don't have the exact numbers, but I would assume tht nearly 50% of living people have never played in the NFL.

oh i know, i was just having fun with the fact that you listed 2 people who can't play football anymore, one because of a hip injury, one because of death.
Death and multiple retirements.

They NEED to bring Runyan back. No questions asked. They have to get him signed by March 3rd too because if he hits the open market he's gone. Jeff Backus and Stockar McDougle are the only half decent OTs out there and they are not half as good as Runyan.
Interesting to see him say that Greg Lewis and Darwin Walker are gone.
I hope he's right about Dhani.

Josh Parry, yes.
Bruce Perry, no.
Bruce earned himself a job in 2006 yesterday. Not only as Reno's replacement as the 4th RB but as the KR. We have no idea if JR Reed will ever come back and the other guys they used at KR this year ate ass.
Bruce Perry is a bruising back...for his height and weight, he really brings it. I'd love to see him #3 after Westy and Moats.
Moats scares me with those fumbles. He's one of those guys that will bring you down to the to the opponent's 20 with big plays then give it right back at the worst of times.
TO, Mahe, Spach, McMullen, McMahon, Detmer, Jones, Adams, Kalu, and Rayburn need to roll up on out of here, period.
Lewis needs to find the heart he played with in 04. Freak needs better moves and given a chance to be moved around the DLine.
The rest of the D needs to go to football camp and learn to tackle better. The offense needs someone (MCNABB)
on their corp to step up and be a real leader. The entire O also needs to play with a Runyan-like mentality, the
backups need to prove they're capable of playing the position when someone goes down, like they have in the previous years,
and last but not least, AR needs to concentrate on coaching the team as a whole, and give the playcalling duties
to someone else. Heck, I'd like to see him pull a Holmgren and give up his GM duties. Get rid of some of these
puppet coaches like Culley and Morningweg and hire some road warriors who can actually give the opposition
ulcers with their techniques and game wizardry. I've been watching Birdz football since 76, and this is the most
disappointing season I've ever had the displeasure to watch. I know 98 was really bad, but as a fanbase we expected
those guys to lose. They may have gotten the crap kicked out of them, but at least they never quit. This 05 team
killed themselves with stupid errors and quit on numerous occassions. I know our injuries played a big factor, but
with the talent that we still had on this team we could've gotten at least a winning record. I still can't see how you can
go from being 6-0 in the division one year to being 0-6 in that same division the next. That being said I can't see how
you can go from one end of the spectrum to the other in a year's time! At least Ray Rhode's decline was gradual from
one year to the next during his tenure. I can agree that the teams in the NFC East made a jump but not that big of a jump.
There is a lot of issues that need to be addressed in the offseason. Unfortunately, I don't see all these issues being
addressed in one offseason. The bad part is that I have no idea who the one person is in the Eagles organization that
needs to be called out. Everyone deserves the blame for this pathetic season. In a perfect world, these players would
spend their offseason reevaluating themselves and what exactly they could do to bring to this team back to it's dominant
place in the NFL. But hey, as long as they get those paychecks at the end of the year that's all that matters.
Zod: Copy and post much?
LOL , a season's worth of frustration Dio, wrapped up into one post.....

QuoteMike McMahon completed 45.4 percent of his passes this year, the lowest completion percentage by an NFL quarterback with 200 or more pass attempts since Akili Smith of the Bengals completed 44.2 percent of his passes in 2000. His 55.2 passer rating is worst by an NFL quarterback since Bobby Hoying's 45.6 in 1998.
