I was sitting here flicking through channels and came up on Fox and saw Buddy Ryan so I stopped. It was a piece on the '85 Bears season. Anyway, I caught the tail end of it... where the narrator mentioned that they've really not spoken since that season. Call me stupid... but I had no idea the two of them hated each other. What went down between them? I picked up on Buddy being upset that Halas hired Ditka to be HC and Buddy wanted the job, but that can't be all can it?
One funny line from the thing was Buddy at some kind of banquet with the team. He says, "No offense to McMahon and the offense... but we probably coulda done it without ya!" :-D
Yeah, I remember hearing about a rift between the two as well. I'm too young to remember much from back then but I know that the offense and defense were two very divided groups.
Ditka was pissed that the players carried Ryan off the field after the Super Bowl, but Ryan didn't get along with a lot of coaches in his career. Remember the right hook he gave Gilbride on national TV when he was with the Oilers?
Calling that a "punch" might be generous...

Would you prefer bitch slap? ;)
Hell, I'm not even sure it was hard enough to be called that. :-D
Sissy punch?
He's an old man. What do you want from him?
To not punch with his wrist would be a good start.
I'd pay to see Parcells vs Buddy in the boxing ring.
...wearing wrist gloves of course. :-*
