Quote[NFL |Panthers release little-used Gardner
From Inquirer Wire Services
The Carolina Panthers yesterday released wide receiver Rod Gardner, who caught only nine passes in 13 games after being acquired from Washington in a summer trade.
The former first-round draft pick of the taterskins had 84 receiving yards and a touchdown.
"It was a situation where there are other receivers ahead of him on the depth chart and it became fairly apparent to us that he would not be in our long-term plans," Carolina general manager Marty Hurney said. "We felt like this was the right opportunity to give Rod a chance to catch on with another team."
Gardner failed to make an impact, despite the struggles of No. 2 wide receiver Keary Colbert and 37-year-old Ricky Proehl.
:deion
i advocated getting him during the summer...boy was i wrong...hard to figure whats wrong with this guy...hes got all the tools and has flashed them just not often enough...even so i still say hes worth a look see
He bombed out spectacularly with Washington and Carolina and yet you want him here ostensibly to catch passes from McDetmer?
Alrighty then...
You mean other than the fact he's a nutjob?
He's got more talent than just about every receiver on the Eagles roster. I'd take a look at the very least.

I agree. On the bright side, he's young and talented. It wouldn't hurt to take a look considering the Eagles wanted him in the draft before.

Only if taking a flyer on Gardner does not preclude the Eagles from going after a Moulds or another veteran receiver.

You damn right. That's what would scare me if we ended up snagging Gardner. That we'd not sign anyone else and they'd still calim that they brought in "help at WR."
I can almost read the Spads fluffer now... :puke
I don't want Gardner at all. We've already got enough mediocre/sub-standard WRs that don't know the system. Moulds or death, please.

It just depends on what type of suckage you're looking for.

Rod Gardner + Brett Favre = Super Bowl.

CAN ST. FAVRE TURN 11 LOSSES INTO A PLAYOFF BERTH? JOHN MADDEN SAYS YES!
Not even Madden could ride Favre's geriatric jock after last night's debacle.
I mean, St. Brett was literally heaving 'em up just hoping and praying that he'd be removed from the game.
Sad yet pretty goddamned funny at the same time, that game was.

Seriously. Enough. We get it. "Saint Favre." Right. Hilarious. Kill yourselves.
