SAN ANTONIO (Dec. 14, 2005) -- Struggling New Orleans Saints quarterback Aaron Brooks has been benched for the rest of the season.
"It's not an indictment of Aaron whatsoever," coach Jim Haslett said after practice. "It's an indictment on our record."
Haslett said he was replacing Brooks with Todd Bouman because of the Saints' 3-10 record.
"I think the team will rally around Todd," Haslett said. "This was the time to see if Todd could handle the situation."
Brooks, struggling through his worst year in seven seasons, said he didn't argue when told of Haslett's decision.
"I just took it like a man," Brooks said. "I accept it. Ain't nothing I can do about it anyway."
The Saints play the Carolina Panthers in Baton Rouge, La.
The decision will end Brooks' franchise record for consecutive starts by a quarterback at 82.
Brooks has thrown 17 interceptions and 13 touchdown passes this season, marking the first time in his career he's had more interceptions than scoring passes. He also has a career-worst 70.0 quarterback rating.
He thinks he'll be traded or released by the Saints in the offseason.
"If I don't take another snap for the New Orleans Saints, I've done some tremendous things for this organization," he said.
Bouman is in his eighth season. A backup who did not play his first four seasons, Bouman played in six games -- three as a starter -- for the Minnesota Vikings during the 2001 and 2002 seasons. He signed with the Saints in 2003.
He has completed five of 13 passes this season with one interception that was returned for a touchdown.
What a complete mess this team is. Also, I think Aaron Brooks is a good quarterback.
Do you really think Brooks is a good QB? :paranoid
Why hasn't that coach been fired yet?

I think he's a better QB than his cousin.

Yep. Says right there: his worst quarterback rating ever was this year, at 70.0. Those kinds of numbers would be good for many teams in the league. And he's had a particularly down year. Under extreme circumstances. So yeah, I think he's a good QB.
GET BROOKS!
Ok, I thought you were being sarcastic. I have to disagree. I think Aaron Brooks is a synonym for "bad quarteback who makes dumb mistakes and turns it over too much".
Sunday on CBS: "A Home for Leinart", starring Ed Begley Jr....

i think he's the kind of guy who could be good with the proper coaching when he got into the league, but that time has passed and you're right about the type of player he is now.

True. Not too many people could pull off the incredibly stupid backwards pass quite the way he could.

I still think he could be good in the right situation. Maybe a Dilfer, Brad Johnson type rennaisance is possible, but he needs to be on a good team.
Brooks stinks. He has a knack for losing games.
I think Brooks is a backup kind of guy. He has the physical tools to be good and he is good in spurts (and when the going is good), but he doesn't put it together consistently and he has very little in the way of leadership skills. He's not the guy I'd want at the helm on a regular basis. More than anything, he folds like a tent under pressure.
by definition if you play qb for the saints you suck
brooks will be a real nice back up next year
Why hasn't anyone mentioned the fact that Brooks is mediocre and sold out by not running more and is representing black quarterbacks poorly. Huh? Where are you NAACP fargs...huh?!
Get Brooks!

They have actually had a decent history with QB's. Archie Manning, Hebert, Brooks (until this year).

Just about anyone with an ounce of football knowledge would disagree with you about Manning. Hebert always seemed to get hurt, but when heathy was good. And Brooks, well, as you can see in this thread, you will have disagreements. But your comments about Manning are just made out of lack of knowledge.
manning was a good quarterback who sucked on a horrible team...therefore manning sucked as the saints qb...im not gonna go find them but when you have the time look at his numbers they sucked...he sucked the team sucked the fans sucked they sucked...saints quarterbacks SUCK
Archie Manning's career stats (http://www.peytonmanning18.com/archie.html)... not very good at all.
How can a player's stats be good when his teammates were absolutely dreadful? Manning played well.

Dreadful may be an understatement. Those Saints teams of the 70's were some of the worst ever fielded by an NFL organization. You put Montana, Elway, Marino, or any other "top 10" QB on those teams and their stats would have been similar. I am not saying Manning was as good as any of those guys, but he didn't suck.
