Title: Ryan Moats' PE.com Blog
Post by: BigEd76 on December 12, 2005, 05:01:34 PM
Figured it was time to give it its own thread instead of burying them in the game threads and Westbrook threads...

QuoteBack To Work (3:56PM today)

My fiancée and I went out and got some McDonald's :evil after the game last night. It's something quick. I don't eat it all the time.

You might find it surprising, but no one knows who I am. :paranoid People look at me, I might have a little width on me but I look just like a normal guy.

I don't think my popularity will change unless people see my face and see what I look like.

I don't think about getting fame or fortune. I just like playing. I try to keep it like that so I'll stay grounded. I might get famous and I can't control that, but I can control that way I handle it. If you approach it like a superstar, then that's the wrong way to approach it. If you approach it like a normal football player, you'll be fine.

I watched a little TV last night. Not just ESPN, just TV...just relax. You know what I watched? America's Funniest Home Videos. I sit there and crack up the whole time.

I may catch one of the ESPN's and I wont lie, I do look at it. I don't pay attention to it really. Half of the time, they are just talking. I catch that one glimpse and let it go.

Today, I did my work out and did my film and I'll come in tomorrow and do the same thing. My college coach told me, I should look at my film to improve what I did. Just get those thoughts in your head to fix what you did and what could have done...what I didn't do.

Here's one from 12/9 that wasn't posted:

QuoteA Little More Personal...

Something that you might not know about me is that I'm engaged to a wonderful woman named Tamishia. :yay

It's great. I have the person God wanted me to have. You do have your ups and downs, but I love her. So, you fight through those tough times.

We were friends in college. She was busy. She was a busy, busy, busy woman. She was Miss Tech. She did a lot of different stuff around school. Meanwhile, I had football so I was practicing all of the time. We would see each other on campus, but she was always too busy to talk.  :boo

I couldn't get her attention at first. We started talking, but then she went to law school. She did her first year of law school in Texas and I was still in Louisiana playing football. We kept in touch.

When I came to Dallas after training for the Combine, she was in Texas already so we hooked up and went out, had fun, did all different types of stuff. We saw each other every day. That was my routine: go work out, hang out, go hang out some more. That's where it came from.

My whole life I never did the playing around thing with women. I always wanted to find a lady who was on the same page with me and wanted the same things I did. In college, it's hard to find that type of woman because everyone wants to party. I really wasn't into that. She was the only one I knew who was real concentrated on her work and knew what she wanted. She's very independent.

It was just plain to see, if this didn't work I wasn't going to get married. I don't see this not working because we work at it. We don't like each other somedays. But at the end of the day, I always come to my senses. That's part of love I guess. Sometimes you don't like 'em, sometimes you do. She's very responsible, a great worker. That's the type of partner I want. When we try to make a life together, I don't want to have to do all of the work like worrying about bills while my wife does the luxury thing. She works just as hard as I do.

She just got into graduate school to get her Master's. She's thinking about teaching law. It depends on what she wants to do. Law school is funny. It's harder to get into law school up here when you went to school in Texas because the laws are different. It would be easier if you came out of high school because you are an empty eraser board and they can draw whatever they want on you.

I proposed on the last day of training camp. I went and played in my first game against the Steelers after that. I wasn't nervous about asking because I knew she would say yes.

What I did to propose was get her mad and started a fight that lasted the whole week. I was being a jerk on purpose. She hung up on me that week like four times. I got home and told her that I was being mean on purpose. I got down on one knee and said since we get so mad at each other let's do that marrying type of thang.

I called her mama, and she said 'Are you sure?' because there are no returns. You can't give it back.

I thought about giving it back a few times  O:)

Or more accurately, F Reid for keeping him off the field and F the fact that he's never going to follow through on the promise of his first NFL start.

QuoteThis Is A Long One...  (3:21 PM)

The media attention I got at Louisiana Tech going when I was among the nation's leading rushers helped me learn how to deal with the media. I already knew how I was going to handle it anyway.

I always give praise to my offensive line because without them it doesn't matter how you run, you aren't going to make it. I always praise my offensive line and let them know because they don't get a lot of praise. I mean, they make some awesome blocks but the running backs get the praise. I kind of make sure they get what they deserve as an offensive line and in return, they'll keep fighting for you.

My mother and the people that I was around are the reason that I'm grounded. I've been down at the bottom and I have been high and cocky, and I've been dropped down, and people tell me, 'Hey, slow down, you aren't all that.' I remember that, that's what I hold onto.

As a player, you have to stay humble because it won't last forever. You want people to remember you as a good person, as a good man. You want people to remember you like that. You don't want people remembering you as being cocky and stuck up-type of football player.

I started learning that in high school. I was pretty good in high school, but God brought me down. I got hurt. I got hurt to where they said I probably wouldn't play anymore...ever. It brought me down.

I didn't know what I would do without football and that's where I started to develop a little something else as a backup because I didn't have a backup before. I just figured I would play and get here. So after the injury I started concentrating on school and I have love for others things too, especially website design.

When I was a freshman I came in college, I had speed you know, I'd run away from people like I did in high school. But in college, I heard that they kept labeling me a jitterbug. I didn't like that because that said all I could do was run away from people and I didn't like the fact that that was what they thought of me. So, I started developing, training hard every day. Just trying to get my size up. I got up to about 200 pounds, around there.

I was mostly a catching back my freshman year, then my sophomore year came and I had the chance to start. I battled a lot in preseason and I thought I won it fair and square but he was a junior and I was a sophomore. Still, I kept battling and battling and finally got my start with like six or nine games left and I ended up running for 1,300 and 10 touchdowns.

Then my junior year I knew it. I knew I would be starting and I worked to get my size up some more. I got it up to 210. That was the hardest I ever worked that summer with Coach McKnight. He was the strength coach. He worked my butt off. It was awesome and I was ready! I was 210. I was stronger and I was running through people.

I wanted to make sure I was downhill running, in-between the tackles. And I had success. Then I got comfortable to where I was just playing. Making people miss, juking people out that kind of thing. I never thought about the NFL the whole time. But after my junior year, I thought about it and I realized I had a running back behind me who I thought was going to be good and me, I didn't get a chance to play when I first got there.

I had Joe Smith in front of me and I had to wait. So I thought, I had the chance to leave and I can let him take the show and give him a chance early to develop as a player and let him play and develop at the same time. That's the best way to go.

Why didn't I play my senior season? I always knew people would doubt me, no matter what. They would doubt me because I'm 5-8. If I was 5-10 they wouldn't. It's crazy how being 5-8 then 5-10 could change how people look at you. But I knew that they would doubt me because I am 5-8. Even if I stayed for another year and ran for another 1,800 yards, they still would have doubted me.

I probably still would have been drafted in the same area. I knew I would be in the same position. Me staying another year and hogging the show for a younger back, this back was more like a Marshall Faulk type back, tall, big back, maybe he would have a better chance. No matter if I stayed or went, I'd be doubted, so let's start the doubt early that way I'll have time to develop.

Now that I'm in the NFL, the next fight is to master this level of play. I felt like I mastered the college level at the end. I felt like I had nothing else to do. I ran for 1,300 and then 1,800 yards. I had 18 touchdowns as a junior. You couldn't say that I didn't play against competition. I played against some of the best competition of the year and had success against them. I felt there was nothing else for me to do but leave. Now I'm here, now I want to master the game at this level as a running back and possible as a receiver and that's where I'm at right now.

This whole blog thing is the dumbest thing to be put on the Eagles Website since Spads. And it was a close finish. Moats writes like a Harvard Scholar though. Absolutely farging captivating.  Good thing he is real fast.

Maybe the moral of the whole blog thing is: If you have children that are getting ready for college, don't send them to Louisiana Tech.

Another great literary work.  He loves turf.  :P

QuoteI'm just preparing for the next game. I just got out of meetings. Today is the first day of getting into the film on the Rams.

I don't think my role is any different for this week. I think it's the same.

There are three phases of being a running back that I have had to learn this year.

In protection, I give myself a B. Maybe. I want to see myself get into all of the situations in the game, then I can really grade myself. In practice, it's not spinning in my mind anymore. It's becoming second nature.

In the passing, I know my routes. There are still some situations that I need to be in that I haven't been in. I think I know them well enough to get into the game. But it's up to the coaches to see where I'm at. I can tell myself where I'm at, but I'm not going to give myself a low score.

And the third is running, I've become comfortable enough that I have been able to get on the field.

This Sunday we're playing in St. Louis and on turf. I love playing on turf. It's so fast. I've always loved turf. When I was in high school I would get so excited when we were playing on turf. The first time I played on turf, I realized how fast I could be.

The first time I played on turf was against Odessa Permian. Yes, that's the same team featured in the movie "Friday Night Lights." It was in Odessa. I played on their turf and had my breakout game. I went for over 100 yards against them. It was one of my memorable games. I was a little sophomore playing on varsity.

I had these shoes, they were the lightest turf shoes I ever had in my life. They were like paper. I had a nickname for the shoes, but I forgot the name of them. But they were blazing fast. And they were solid white. I looked funny wearing an all black uniform with solid white shoes, but I didn't care.

QuoteI just got out of meetings. I saw that Sam Gado is going to win the rookie of the week award. It doesn't really mean anything. Being named the player of the week is not going to help me here. Of course it's nice to get recognized. Sometimes you get them, sometimes you don't.

I want to thank all of the fans out there for their support. Just to let you know, I'm reading all of the comments. I know what you guys are saying.

I have a lot of memories of the fans from back home. I always treated the fans good. I would stay after games and sign autographs for hours because I didn't want to miss anybody.

I've met a lot of good fans and a lot of good people. They've been very hospitable.

The fans here are good. They pay attention to every single thing.

Now, Texas is football city too. So, I'm used to good fans. I wouldn't even call them fans I call them friends. I call them friends because I get to meet them at some point.

I get a lot of fan mail here and I promise that I read all of it. I'm in the process of replying to it now. I got this letter from a little boy who said that most of the guys send the letters back when their careers are done. I laughed at that, but it's true because it's hard to find the time until your career is over. But that's why I want to get mine out during my career. It's hard to find the time though. There's a lot going on right now. But I'm getting to it.

I want you to know my site is coming along and it won't be like anything else out there. It's going to be awesome. I really want to do into detail about it, but I want to keep it a surprise. When it's done, hopefully, I can connect to something from the Eagles' web site. By the end of this coming summer, it should be up and running.

You'll have to check out the flash cartoon this week on the Eagles' site. They put me in a cartoon. I really don't like the comparison to Mighty Mouse, but I know that it's not meant to be done in a bad way. I know it's meant in a good way. People have called me Mighty Moats before.

If I were to create my own cartoon, I would call my cartoon "Gitmo." It's my nickname from college that means "Give It To Moats." I'll have to draw up a character and see what I can do with it.

I'd be more excited about him if Reid would let him run the ball more than 10-15 times a game.

If the kid can run it 20-25 times, then let him do so.  Gordon sucks ass and Mahe is a worthless piece of shtein.  Give the ball to Moats and let him do something behind those behemoths on the offensive line.

my thoughts exactly.  this season has gone down the toilet, but one positive is that you get to see what the kid can do against starting defenses.  give it to him 25 times, see how he reacts.  also, i think they should be starting McMullen at a WR spot with Reggie Brown, see if McMullen has anything he can add to the team in the future, enough with Greg Lewis

It certainly appears to me like Reid is trying to "win games" and "put his best people out there" rather than evaluate the depth of the roster.

Gordan has been disappointing. When the Eagles signed him, I was sure he'd be more productive even with the limited opportunity.

I've actually been impressed with McMullen the past couple of games. In previous years, it seems he was a lot more prone to dropping the ball whereas this year he has actually made some fairly impressive catches.

Say what you will about Brown, but I think he's done a hell of a job. I'm not trying to sound like Reid, but I find it hard to believe that these guys wouldn't be even more productive if McNabb was still starting.

Since you love it so much:

QuoteI'm sorry I haven't written in the last few days, but I'm on a mission. I'm trying to keep doing well and be consistently effective. Once I get the hang of it and I get used to the way I do things, then everything else will come easier. Next year will be easier.

I'm trying to find time to take the offensive line out to eat, try and take them to Dave and Buster's. These guys have lives so it's hard to find the time. I have to find the date. I want to take those guys out. I'm trying to get a connection with the line. I want to have a relationship with the line.

The better you know people the more comfortable it is to work with them. I had a great relationship with my offensive line in college. They were my best friends. My favorite part of football was growing the relationships with each other.

My freshman year I did have a hard time fitting in. There were a few fights, but the people I fought with I became friends with. When you come in as rookie or a freshman, you have to prove you're tough and that you belong. I think that's how it is. I'm cool with a lot of guys I came in with, but in the NFL you might not be with them for long. That's the sad part about it.

I feel good about the win Sunday.  You don't know how many carries you are going to get so you have to treat each one like that could be the last one. That's how I feel. There's three backs. There are only going to be so many carries for each of us. It's going to be spread out so you have to take those carries and make the most of them. You may not get 20 carries a game.

You know what? I don't even know what happened on the touchdown. I just run. It's like running from a dog. Not so much running scared, but with heightened senses.

The success feels good, but with that comes expectations. In my mind, I'm just trying to stay consistent. That's what I try to think about. Not everyone wanting to talk to me. I have a couple of appearances I'm doing tonight in fact. I just want to keep my head on a straight line.

I might not have played a lot until now, but I prepared every week like I was going to play. I had a lot of help from Coach Shuey and he would prepare me like I was going to play. With that help and coming out before games and putting myself in the game plan, even though I wasn't playing, running plays that they were going to run and put myself in the situation as the game goes on I'm on the sidelines listening to the play and imagining what I would do in that situation.

I kept myself in the game and I would use all the tools that I could to stay on top of it. I don't think the big difference between the college and the NFL is the speed, it's the intelligence level that every player has.

Yeah, you know, you don't really care where you're running as long as it's away...

Obviously hes not the brightest, but i would give up anything to be in this kids shoes.  Goodbye Buckhalter, goodbye Gordon...hello Ryan Moats.  I know hes got alot to learn yet, but this kids got skill.  It will be interesting to see how things play out in camps to see where hes going to be put on the depth chart.  It will be equally interesting to see how durable the guy is.  I like what i see so far  :yay :yay

:-D

Reed got hurt before Moats was drafted, right?  Seemed like an interesting choice of words...unless he's used to being chased too...  :sly

Probably just feels that way since he has the speed...

Well... at least the rook won't be getting caught on any fences.

Christ. It's hard not to read this trainwreck. Someone buy this kid a clue:

Quote
The first game of the season is this Sunday in Houston. Yes, I'm from Texas, but that isn't my home. Dallas is my real home. What the farg?! I really don't know anything about Houston. I've only been to Houston two times. I didn't even have to buy any extra tickets for this week's game.

I'm ready to get this thing rolling, you know. I'm ready to get deeper into the season and see how we are doing as a team. Everyone wants to know what scheme we will run this week against the Texans. People always think about schemes - schemes this, schemes that. There's no difference. We do the same thing we do to everybody else. We just have to go out and play. You have to go out and play your game. We scheme a little bit, but it's nothing special. Oh, do tell!
No one in this locker room is looking past the Texans towards our home opener against the division-rival Giants. You never do that. You never underestimate your opponent. They're an NFL team. They all come to play. There is nobody lacking anything. Huh?

I really don't know what I'll be doing on Sunday, but I'm going to go out there and play. I haven't got any first-team reps, so I don't know where I stand exactly. I've been working with the scout team which runs the plays of the opposing team That must suck for this kid. Houston is known for their new zone blocking scheme, but we don't get that in-depth into it.

Wali Lundy is a fast running back, but the defense faces fast backs everyday. They face Westbrook, Buckhalter, me, Bruce - a lot of backs with good speed. We are as fast as they come.

Lundy's a rookie, but I think that's the best position to be in right there. He's a raw, raw that is incredibly accurate? running back. He has no choice but to play his game, because that's all he knows. I feel like it's an advantage for him. Get his first carry out of the way. Take some hits. He'll be nervous, but everybody's is nervous proofreading = good. If you are not nervous before a game then I don't know about you. You have to get hit a few times to get that out of you.

I started reading it the way you did, but then I realized it was just a case of a poorly placed pronoun. By "that" he obviously means Houston. Regardless, it did give me a chuckle.

I think that would be a case of an improper pronoun/missing noun rather than a poorly placed pronoun.

I wasn't aware that anyone was accusing them of that. Also, the fact that he even mentions the Giants game seems to suggest that he is looking right past the Titans.

It's like telling your boss, "Just so you know, I wasn't staring at your daughter's ass when she was bending over just then," without him having mentioned his daughter at all.

It is certainly a little early to look past the Nov 19 matchup with the Titans.
