The good ol' lis franc injury
Announced on the Andy Reid show
Figures.
Wow.
This season is the awesomest.
Wow, this thread really sucks.
Didn't he play after his injury (I'm assuming it was on that 1st Q pass where he was tackle out of bounds)? Reid may just be shutting him down for the season to protect him.
Glad he got his deal :yay
I'm really not surprised. The way that this year has gone and all the injuries that have occured, it's really not a surprise right now. I can't wait for next week's injury report when Reid announces that Jevon Kearse is pregnant.
This type of injury is no longer as serious as when Duce experienced it, correct?

I REALLY hope that's sarcasm. The team overpaid for an injury prone scat back and every jizzes themselves. He'd better come back healthy and they'd better keep a bruiser on the squad.
He came back in and played, and it was diagnosed as a sprain after the game. I don't think it's as serious as Duce's or Chad's....

It's not that the injury is less serious, but their ability to properly diagnose and treat it has significantly improved. Duce was able to return successfully because he was about the first person to suffer the injury and have it properly diagnosed and treated almost immediately.

No word on whether it's a tear or a sprain yet. A tear will require surgery, a sprain most likely won't.

Not only that, but in the unlikely event he actually sack a QB, he'd only get a half credit.
If the xrays were negative at first like Reid said, then it's not the full blown fracture dislocation.
Not as bad as say Chad Lewis' injury.
wow. this is fantastic.
Hopefully he's out for the year simply because there's no reason to play him anymore. The season is over. I expect pretty much any injuries to Eagles players to put them out for the year now. With 4 games left at 5-7 there is just no purpose in playing them.
Sit all the starters and rest for the playoffs.
Whoops, slipped into last year for a minute there.

There is a silver lining to this dark cloud though and I think we've all forgotten about that......
It's Mighty Mormon Power Ranger time.

Yeah well. Start all the young guns and see what they are made of. Give Moats the ball 20 times a game and see what he can do, and throw 8,000 hitch routes and slants to Reggie Brown, even if he is double covered or they have safety help. Toughen everyone up for next season.

What the over/under until his official announcement about how he is not injury-prone, that he insulted by being called injury prone and that this is just 'a freak thing'.
Will the Eagles score again this year?
not only we score, we will beat the gnats 2-0.
Gordon and Moats now. Huh.
If it is the sprain he'll be fine. If it is the tear, he's cooked for awhile.
Don't forget about Bruce Perry. He'll get his shot now.

does anybody have the number of touches for Westbrook at this point last year compared to this year?
The injury he had was from the CB coming down on his foot while it was pointed to the ground. It wasn't an "over-worked" injury like he had too many carries and his body broke down on him.
It's a freak injury. Being bigger doesn't mean you have stronger feet.
In a totally other vein, could Andrew Toney have had a Lis Franc sprain? It could answer a question that has been plaguing me for years.

no silly, the Lis Franc is a ticking time bomb, it get's sprained after a certain number of touches. Chad's number came up in the NFCCG and Duce's came up during the middle the season.
You're right. Anyone would have been injured by that.

Sorry. My bad. :-[
And don't forget Dawkins's number coming up in game 1 of 2003 too.
bullshtein.
an injury is an injury...and westbrook has a history of them.
his touches went up over the past few games...because they have no passing game...and he goes down with a season ending injury. i'm not making stuff up here folks. it happened.
lol @ the eagles overworking westbrook...he doesnt get enough looks
you can say hes injury prone but its has nothing to do with workload...dook had a few seasons at villanova where he had a million touches and didnt get hurt
Chronic hamstring strains or any other injuries that are a direct result of overexertion and I would agree with you.
A freak injury where your foot is come down on while in a prone position does not say that he was overworked. It says he has shtein ass luck at that time.
i never said he was overworked...i said he's been getting more touches, which he has. he went from getting 11.1 carries per game to 17.3 carries per game over the past 4 games (not counting seattle).
but i guess he really does have bad luck since he get's injured a lot...he should start carrying around a rabbit's foot or a 4 leaf clover.

QuoteEagles | Perry likely to be promoted
Tue, 6 Dec 2005 19:13:56 -0800
Bob Brookover, of the Philadelphia Inquirer, reports the Philadelphia Eagles will likely promote RB Bruce Perry from the practice squad to their 53-man roster Wednesday, Dec. 7.
Westbrook is not a workhorse back. Treating him as one would be a mistake.
The Eagles will always need another guy to split carries and get the tough yards. That is why the Westbrook contract negotiations were difficult.
That said, he is a playmaker and a difference-maker. He is a great player. He is not prone to injury any more than the next guy, but his effectiveness will decrease if he is used improperly.
Course we all called Burgess injury prone with his freak injuries...
is mcnabb injury prone?
this is starting to get humerous. We should have a "who's next on IR?" contest.
so what is the number of injuries that make a player injury prone? because westbrook misses a few games every year, that in my mind is injury prone.
hope he doesnt have to get surgery for it.

Nope, Mike McMahon after this Sunday. Strahan or Umenyiora will kill him. But then, i guess he'd be on the physically unable to perform or dead list. Either way, it's McMahon.

QuoteI wanted to get something out here quickly before I went out to practice.
I found out about Westbrook yesterday. Nobody called me, I just heard. I was surprised. I didn't know his injury was that serious. blink.gif It's disappointing, but I know he'll bounce back.
Coming into work this morning, my mind was focused on getting ready for New York. I'm really anxious drool.gif about what role I'm going to play. I'm ready to correct the things I did wrong in the last game with this game. That's all I'm worried about right now. I'm really concentrating on my plays and trying to do everything right at practice.
I want to play this Sunday with a little more aggression furious.gif, instead of thinking. I can play now with a little more freedom. Now that I really got my feet wet in the last game, I'm a little bit looser. I can tell in the next game I will be a little bit looser. I'm ready for the challenge.
On Tuesday, I started my day off at the Complex. I studied some video and met with the coaches. I was here from about 12-3:30 p.m. Everyone comes in at their own time. You can be in the weight room from 8-4 p.m. In the evening, I went to Hank's radio show and did an interview on there. Otherwise, I spent most of the day hanging out with my fiancée.
I want everyone to know that we're not going to quit. I don't see that around here. I know that I've been through ups and downs in college. We lost a lot in a row. But even if it's seven straight losses, I'll be fighting to the bloody end. That brings your team closer. If you can stick through the losses and rise up and play hard that will make your team closer so when you start winning, your team will know how to handle it.

I don't understand why anyone thinks Bruce Perry even MIGHT make a difference for the Eagles some day. At this point, I want to see what Moats can do and whether or not (probably not) Gordon is the bigger/change-of-pace that the team will need next year to complement Westbrook. Never said he could make a difference. But I'll tell you what...he ain't no damn converted WR trying to play RB in the NFL like Mr. Mahe is. It's obvious that if Mahe made it this year then next year Perry could have a shot to replace him as the 3rd/4th RB.
Perry could also return kicks. Rod Hood stinks and we still need a KR guy for next year to.
So where exactly is the harm in giving Perry a shot on the roster?
Well, McMahon's banged up, so the harm is that you would have one injured QB and Koy... and that's it.
No offense, but I'd rather the Eagles have a 3rd QB on the roster if both Mike and Koy aren't completely healthy.
I didn't know that McMahon might struggle to go this weekend. I just heard the clip of AR talking about it on the radio.
With that being said...I would still like to see Perry get some carries and KOR's.
I would like to get some playing time too! Go me!

QuoteWESTBROOK'S 2005 SEASON OVER
December 12, 2005
By BOB KENT
Brian Westbrook will be shut down for the season because of a right foot sprain, but he will not need surgery. The word came down Monday as head coach Andy Reid said he will place his prized running back on Injured Reserve.
After further consultation with foot specialist Dr. Mark Myerson, Reid explained that Westbrook has a first-degree Lisfranc sprain that will require six to nine weeks for rehab.
Reid compared Westbrook's injury to the one Brian Dawkins sustained in the 2003 season opener against Tampa Bay. Dawkins missed nine games because of the injury.
RB Brian Westbrook
"This thing should heal up. It will take somewhere between six and nine weeks to get right," Reid said. "We'll just see how he does here in the next few weeks."
While the coach is confident Westbrook will be back on the field for training camp next summer --and maybe even for the spring drills -- it's important to note that Dawkins says it took him quite a while before he felt fully recovered.
"It took [one] year for me to get completely back to where I felt I was myself again," Dawkins said. "The nine weeks that I missed and a year after that. It was a year after the injury."
Avoiding the surgery, Reid says, can significantly help in terms of the rehab.
"If you can stay away from the surgery, that's a huge thing," Reid said.
Westbrook will become the 12th Eagle -- and fourth Pro Bowl player from a year ago -- to go on Injured Reserve in 2005.
One of the team's most explosive weapons, Westbrook shouldered a load of the offense in 2005, accounting for 617 yards and three touchdowns on the ground and 61 catches for 616 yards and four touchdowns through the air.
Westbrook had nine carries for 17 yards in the loss to Seattle. He was injured on the team's first possession when he caught a Mike McMahon pass and gained 10 yards before being forced out of bounds. As Westbrook stepped out of bounds, his right foot was hit from behind by Seattle's Jimmy Williams.
Westbrook immediately reacted, jumping up and grimacing in pain. He was treated on the sidelines, went back in the game, but ultimately left the contest.
An MRI last Tuesday revealed the sprain.
For now, Westbrook's game plan is simple: rest, recover and rehab.
