I have been fairly complacent of late, meaning the last few seasons. Mainly because despite my disagreement with some decisions, I could not argue with the results. I qualify what I am about to say by stating clearly, I am an Eagles fan, not a McNabb fan, a TO fan, a Banner fan, Lurie fan, or Reid fan.
Andy Reid has accomplished some amazing things, but has allowed some cardinal sins to occur under his watch. He will almost certainly never be embraced by fans, nor even hated by fans as much as Vermeil or Ryan. Why? He doesn't get it. Stay the course, my responsibility, blah, blah, blah. I have never been hurt as much as a fan as I have under this regime. If we start with the closing game at the Vet, tack on the opener at the Linc, and mix in the loss to the Panthers, you have a recipe for discontent. Follow it up with this season's sweep by Dallas, and two embarrassing losses on national TV, they wipe out or at least neutralize any goodwill that was generated by the SuperBowl appearance.
I'm gonna say it, it has to be said, and you can crucify me if you want to. I don't need a banner of Reggie White on the Eagles nest any more than I need a mural of my ex wife on my livingroom wall. It will remind me of unfullfilled promises, broken dreams, boneheaded decisions, tragic loss, and a horrific MNF game. I luved me sum Reggie when he spilled his blood for the Eagles, game in and out. And his painfull tour of the league was started by the fact he didn't even receive an offer here. I luved seeing Buddy, Seth, Randall, Clyde, Keith, Arkansas, Wes, and KJ. Retire the number and leave it in the Memorial area. I'd rather see a mural of Andre Waters myself. Or better yet, tear down all those fancy french wall hangings and spend the money on players.
Every time they have one of those overblown, "look at what a world class organization we are" presentations, you can almost feel that the game itself was an afterthought. Next time they ask me to remain seated or turn my attention to the video screen, I might as well puke and head home early, rather than have some well coreographed video CT set me up for gutwrenching set of blueballs.
You could almost see Christina Luries look of disgust and Jeff's discomfort while reading that well prepared speech. It was a beautiful gesture, and the setting was awe inspiring, but the best tribute would have been an onfield effort that reminded us of what hard nosed passionate football was all about.
That team was unmotivated, and il prepared. They quit. I can understand a less than talented team, or an occassional letdown, but this team has packed it in. I will leave the Xs & Os to the more knowledgeable, but we all can see that both lines suck, and there are no downfield threats. Without push or pressure, all the rest falls apart. I can stomach a bad season, but to listen to blurbs that still are dealing with TO, seeking his signing bonus back, grievances against other owners, and making me wait thru that atroscity to see that overdone crap? Let Andre, Seth, Buddy, and his wife make brief statements, show his highlights, and skip the banner & Lurie (no pun intended). Most of all, give us a game.
Can you name the biggest joke of a team right now in the NFL? I don't know what you are thinking, but it aint the Vikings anymore. Don't tell me about injuries either. I'm still wearing my Eagles gear, and dealing with idiots, but I aint happy. And if you are, theres something wrong.
You should probably change your sig. ;)
i cuncur. completely.
right now this team is an embarassment and a parody of itself.
this team, as currently constructed has no heart, no emotion, and no desire. and thats a direct reflection of the front office, in my opinion.
Thank God this board wasn't around when the team was 3-13.

Great post Reidme...Something is very wrong with this years Birds team...front office attitude, complacent coaching and poor drafting come to mind :P :P :P

you don't understand the frustration? this was supposed to be a Super Bowl year and this organization has fallen flat on it's face.
people who are bailing on them should be shot. but the real fans have a right to be upset with the team about this year. it's not just a down year, it's an embarassment of a year.
Oh, and before some of you (undoubtedly) start calling me a homer and whatever else, I have something else to say.
Yes, there are things the FO has done wrong. Yes, there are things that need to be fixed. But you think this team just got put together by itself? Were the last 5-6 years an aberration or did you sleep through them?
If you can't think that the problems will be addressed over the offseason and afterwards, you must have just dozed off and missed the last few years or your memory is pretty farging distorted.
One bad season doesn't make a zesty team/front office/organization.
But one bad season sure does show the fans that will jump ship.

Quit being such a homer and whatever else, PhillyGirl.
This is worse than the 3-13 season because I've been spoiled for the past four years.
nice post Reidme.
SunMo...I am as frustrated as anyone else. I am a lifetime, die-hard fan and season ticket holder. You think this is enjoyable to watch for ME?
But to discount the injuries to the team (McNabb especially!) and the TO thing is ridiculous. ITs a zesty year, it sucks and I Hate watching MY team look like shtein out there every week.
HOWEVER, if you want to start slamming the FO and the entire organization for ONE SEASON after (As T-Hawk said) they SPOILED YOU ROTTEN for the last 5 years, you're crazy.
Reidme's post reeks of jumping ship. And honestly? I could care less. Real fans can start to get tickets again.
obviously Reidme isnt jumping ship. He is voicing frustration and makes several good points.
The reason why the Buddy team was so revered was because they were the first decent Eagles team in ages, but Andy's team have achieved more.

bull...spoiled rotten would be the patriots who've won 3 of 4 superbowls.
instead its 5 or 6 years of losing 1 big game after another when it matters most, which seems to be glossed over and ignored by the front office. and it's reflected on the field.
you have no right to question how good a fan someone is. season tickets or not, no one cares. people want to see them win. we all realize the teams of the late 80's and early 90's even though they never won, they also never quit. the eagles, this season, have QUIT.

PG, sometimes you read a post and simply see what you want to see. People, especially fans who care, are allowed to have feelings and opinions. I for one enjoy things and usually read posts when everything is fine. If I am unhappy, I tend to speak up. I don't remember if there was an Eagles board when we were 3-13, but I imagine I'd post alot more at 3-13 than at 13-3.
I can deal with a losing season, and I can get my azz down to the Linc in the snow towing two kids, walking 10 blocks, and rolling under a locked gate in the slush. I can scream so much I lost my voice as of this morning. And if you tell me I am not a fan and I should leave because I am not happy today ... then I have to disagree. I have no right to tell you how to feel or how to deal with things, but I can tell you that today, this is the way I feel. I am not rooting for them to lose, I am not calling for a players, owners, or coaches head. I am simply saying that there are some things that bother me about their overall appraoch. They have given us alot as fans, but yet they seem to miss the mark badly at times. I have a general feeling that you consider the ownership and their decisions part and parcel with being a fan of the team, which is your right. And I think you have the ability to toss me from the board for my opinions, which you may feel free to do. And if I am passing thru the WC before a game, which I usually try and do, I'll still stop and say hello, and say to whoever I'm with "that's PG, she's a HUGE Eagles fan". You can feel free to tell whoever your with "thats Mike, he's a fair weather bandwagon guy" ... then we both can go into the game to watch our team, and I doubt that either one of us will give a second thought to what the other thinks.
I like this board, and I love the Eagles. I don't always agree with either.

Never said those weren't factors, but they can't explain McMahon, Detmer, Mahe, Parry, Moats, Dhani, Darwin, Hollis, Kearse, Adams, M-Lew, G-Lew, McMullen, Reggie Brown, Ware, Mikell, Patterson, the rotating punters....I'll keep going if you want... :)
What concerns me most is:
(1) In our passing offense we never seem to have an experienced PROVEN QB to back up DMac and our wide receivers (except "He who shall not me named") are at best "very inconsistant". :boo Reggie Brown appears to be best WR Reid has drafted. :yay
(2) a complete disregard for the "need" of a running game. The first half of the season opposing linebackers just dropped 5-10 yds back and snuffed the short passing game out :boo
(3) Defensively ??? little pass rush from our front four and OLB's appear lost out there ::)
I've seen some terrible Eagles teams but this isn't one of them..motivation seems to be a problem and I'm not to proud of how far under the cap we are when we could obviuosly use some skill players in this pass oriented offense :boom
Were all fans and we've all suffered in the past but the truth is we're all a little (a lot) embarrased this am. Took a lot of shots as I walked into my office this am and I rightly so, told them all to fargoff.
Expectations were high and were all just down now.....
I will continue to watch every game to the end, follow the team through the draft, mini-camps, training camp and be there with pride when the 2006 season kicks off.

i can't speak for everybody, but i am not condemming the FO as a whole. i am not saying their way of doing things is faulty, that would be silly after the years of success they have had. but i am saying that they screwed up this year, and that's fair to do as a fan. you can criticize them for this year and still think they are doing a good job overall, which is my feeling.

I'm really tired of these condescending responses. Can you disagree with him? I mean, seriously do you think this season has not been a dissapointment? Has it not been an embarrassment? Last night took it one step further - it was a disgrace. If you think I'm going to jump ship, then you don't know me, but we ALL have the right to be dissapointed or embarrassed or any other feeling we damn well please after last nights "performance".
But if you want to sit back and "wah" all day, by all means, don't let me stop you.

Last night was a debacle. It was horrendous. It was the Colts game from 2002 times 1000.

But you're sole reason for being on this board has been to seek out my posts and comment on them.

That's what happens when you lose a yearly Pro-Bowl QB and enter in a career 2-7 QB. :-D
The Eagles have been lucky the past couple years that DMac stayed healthy..they should of had a "quality backup" QB a long tome ago with all the cap room they've had. Instead huge amounts of cap space went unused and they/we finally paid for it this year :puke It wasn't just DMac, "He who must be named" and a general lack of quality WR's ( for a passing offense) didn't help. Defensive problem's eventually created the "perfect storm of fargin shtein" and the wheel came off.. IMO

Big Cheers for Reggies family. Big Cheers for most of the Old time Eagle players. A lot of booos for Lurie when he made his speech.
I guess that means Lurie will not be going to TC this summer.
At least where the fans can see him.

What do you consider a backup that you'd go out and spend a bunch of cap money on? ??? Please name me a few.
And the WRs were the same as last year going into the season with the ADDITION of Reggie Brown. What exactly did you expect them to do in the offseason? Pinkston went down for the season and TO went idiot.
I was relieved when i saw Neckbeard pour out a bit of his King Koybra to honor his homies on IR after the game.

they didn't mention that during the broadcast. Thanks for clarifying. Though i may have missed it due to my confusion as to what color jerseys the Eagles were wearing.

He was not there.. From what I have seen - the other 4 years the group was out there.

The same guy, who in his job with the Bucs, was fumbling just about every time he took a snap?

yep, the same guy who won a superbowl, and also the same guy who is subbing for a 1999 first round top 10 pick QB that lost a stud WR.
I dont think money had anything to do with the backup QB position. I think Reid just picks who he wants and he thinks he can plug the guy in and make it work. He liked McMahon because he has the physical tools, not because he cost less then Brad Johnson.
Brad Johnson signed a 4 year 6 million deal with a 1.2 million SB. thats not a lot of money.

The Eagles had plenty of cap room to sign him. We were lucky when Feeley subed for DMac as the Def carried him. I am not sure what WR were on the market last year but several good ones moved around (not Moss!) like Plexico ::) I'm not saying we had to fix it last year but we should have STARTED to fixed it in the last 2-3 years
Fan, you're missing the point.
We had the same WRs as last year (when we went to the SB) AND added Reggie Brown. Why the hell did they (at the time) need to go get another WR like that?
Wingspan....how many zesty QBs have won SBs? That's my point. Calling Trent Dilfer.
how about the zesty QB's that played for a zesty teams that the birds opted for instead (Calling mike mcmahon)
you have a choice between Brad Johnson and Mike McMahon, money aside...you're telling me McMahon is the better option?
QuoteThe Eagles had plenty of cap room to sign him.
exactly. Which is why I think if Reid wanted Brad Johnson they would have signed him. You are saying that the reason the backup QB situation is an issue is because the Eagles are trying to save money by signing junk. Im saying that Andy Reid is selecting the QB's because he wants them and cost isnt an issue. It's just that Andy Reid is choosing junk and thinking he can mold them to be decent.
No, I'm not. But he's more the McNabb-type QB to replace McNabb (and not have to alter the offense immensely). I understand the move completely.
McMahon also played on the shteintiest team in all of pro sports in Detroit.
You know the season's a lost cause when people are starting to complain, with a straight face, that the FO didn't sign Brad Johnson in the off-season. Seriously, has it come to this?

to some people, the situations appear similar. the star QB goes out for the year on two teams. one team's backup comes in, is undefeated in 5 games and takes a season that was a disaster and turns it into a chance at playoffs. the other team's backup comes in and the season goes from bad to worse, culminating with an embarassing shoutout loss when the opposing team's defense scores the same number of points as the offense did.
that's why it would come up now. but when you look closer at the situations, there are things that make them different.

IMO Greg Lewis, Pinston and McMullen are less then prime time even with #81 there. IMO Lewis over achieved at the end of last year :yay. Reggie was a great addition in the draft at this point :yay. My biggest grip is that after 2002 we sent Feeley to Miami :yay) we should have started looking for a quality, proven backup QB as we rely so heavily on the passing game. They rolled the dice on DMac staying healthy and it worked in 2003 and 2004... ::)

You don't have to look that closely. This team has played 3 games without McNabb. The play of the QB cost us one possible chance at a win out of the three (and we probably would have lost last night with McNabb, just not 42-0). Hell, McMahon even almost brought the team back against the Cowboys after McNabb blew it. AND, Culpepper was playing like ass anyway, while McNabb was playing OK until the injury really started to take its toll.
Let's put it this way. This team is 5-7. If Brad Johnson was signed instead of Mike McMahon, I can say with reasonable confidence that this team would be... 5-7.
The team would be 5-7, but probably wouldn't lose 42-0 with a QB like Brad Johnson. I'm not saying I'm mad they didn't sign Brad Johnson, but this team could use a veteran with experience who can play to backup McNabb. Detmer is a veteran with experience who can't play.
I agree that the backup QB situation is one which should be addressed in the off-season.
A.J. Feeley will be available! Ha!
I think I might have tried to keep Blake. He'd have to be better than McMahon, right?

We don't know that. We never saw Blake in there with starters (minus TO and Pinkston).
i thought mcmahon would be a decent backup when they signed him.

Psychologists call it "projection."
Talk about your feelings and right away ...... >:(
Just because Mike McMahon is mobile, like McNabb, it doesn't mean he would automatically be the best choice as his backup. Use that logic and we would be better off with Marcus (sic) Vick as backup QB.
Were the last 5-6 years an aberration or did you sleep through them?
id rather have tampas last five years than the eagles any day
