of course the night I spread the Trent Cole blessing he doesnt get a sack... there is always MNF though.
but thats just how good the god is...he can be shutout for 25% of the games in november and still win player of the month
what!?!?!
That's fantastic - especially considering most people have NO idea who he is.....the will now ;D
I'll trade someone a slighly dirty Mike Patterson jersey for a Trent Cole jersey.
They've now changed it to "Rookie Defensive Player of the Month"--but when I posted it, the word "rookie" wasn't there. I'll admit I had questions after I saw a blurb on PFT.com where it said that Minny S Darren Sharper had gotten NFC Defensive Player of the Month for November.

You actually own a Mike Patterson jersey? I'm so ashamed that I don't.
But I don't have a Cole jersey to trade.

i think it went without saying that he was rookie of the month

Yup, thats what I've rocked all year. And it actually says "MIKE PATTERSON" on the back, because I got it in the beginning of the year when we still had Martin, or Marvin, whatever his name was. So mine is more special than anything you can get now.

Unless he spends an extra $10 and gets a personalized 'MIKE PATTERSON' replica jersey.
:-D
impossible. who would do that?
In todays Inky they have an article on him and he was like "I came in on Monday and everyones asking me about this Walter Jones guy, so I figured I'd have to find out exactly who he is".
And ND Kalu says that when they were watching KC tape Cole was like "That Roaf guy ain't no good."

Well, the University of Cincinnati isn't exactly known as an institute of higher learning.

QuoteEagles' Cole ready to tackle any opponent
By LES BOWEN
bowenl@phillynews.com
Walter Jones probably shouldn't take this personally, but Eagles rookie right defensive end Trent Cole - who will face off against Jones Monday night when the Seahawks visit Lincoln Financial Field - had never heard of the five-time Pro Bowl left tackle when teammates started talking to Cole about the upcoming matchup early yesterday.
"I think that's what makes Trent so special - he doesn't respect anybody," said N.D. Kalu, the DE whose starting spot Cole has taken. "I remember we were watching film on Kansas City and he said, 'Man, this guy Willie Roaf, he's not that good.' I was like, 'Trent, man, he's been to more Pro Bowls [10, at last count] than anybody in football.' I think it's that young ignorance that makes him such a great player. You don't want to keep telling him how good somebody is, 'cause you don't want to get in his head."
Cole was named NFL Defensive Rookie of the Month yesterday, after compiling five sacks in four games. "Surprised? Yeah, I was very surprised," Cole said. "I thought, 'They ain't gonna be looking at me, I come from Conference USA [and Cincinnati], I'm a fifth-round pick.' I never thought I was gonna get it."
As you might be able to infer from that reaction, Cole remains a bit wide-eyed. After admitting his ignorance of Jones to reporters, he said that after hearing his teammates, he'd dutifully looked at some tape, and at what was written in the game plan, and concluded, "This guy must be good."
Jones is good, but he isn't perfect. The Giants' Osi Umenyiora got around him last week for a pair of sacks in a game New York would have won with reasonable field-goal kicking. Coming into the game, Jones hadn't given up a sack since Nov. 9, 2003.
"I think Trent's just as good as, if not better than, the guy from the Giants," Kalu said. "He just has to bring it every play... It's not always going to come on the first or second series, you just got to keep bringing it. That's one thing he's good at; he just keeps bringing it for four quarters. Eventually he's going to get around him, or just catch Walter sleeping."
Kalu still gets a decent number of snaps, though not as many as before he injured his shoulder, missing the Nov. 14 loss to Dallas, in which Cole managed two sacks. Kalu feels he's still getting back to 100 percent from anterior cruciate ligament surgery before last season. He knows his age (30), his less-than-stellar play, his impending free-agency, and Cole's emergence mean it is unlikely Kalu would return next season.
"I'm not spiteful," Kalu said. "From Day 1, when I saw him on the field, I knew he was a great player... I can't be mad at that, or I can't be envious. From Day 1, I've been rooting him on."
Bravo to N.D. for being a team player.
Bravo to Trent Cole for being a bad-ass.
Wouldn't it kick some serious ass if Cole played a top-notch game against Walter Jones, conveniently after the big Reggie White tribute/#92 retirement? Kind of a passing of the torch, if you will.
That would be nice.
