Hello all.
Seahawk fan here....just checking in with this weeks competition.
We're certainly looking forward to playing another Monday Nighter!
We've eeked out our last couple of games in an ugly fashion, so you're catching us at a really good time. Hopefully we can continue to be ungodly lucky all the way through the playoffs! :paranoid
Hey PhillyFreak~
I saw your sig on another post. Hutchinson is off the market! :)
If they can't sign him, he's going to be their franchise player.
Bernard is a different story. I think someone will overpay for him. He's a great inside pass rusher when he only has to play on 3rd downs. Now that Tubbs is out, he's going to start wearing down as he plays more snaps (at least that's been the line on him for the last few years). I'd love to keep him in his current role, but he's not worth paying big money for.
The Seahawks have fans?!
Who knew?
Hello and welcome aboard. :yay
I think we have a good chance Monday Night but I try not to get my hopes up. Anyways, some fan on our official site posted this and I thought it was a pretty good break down, tell me if you agree/disagree:
QuoteGreetings Eagles fans
Thought you all may like some info on your upcoming opponent.
The Seahawks are currently 9-2. We are 6-0 at home, but only 3-2 on the road. Our two losses came at Jacksonville in the first game of the season, and at Washington in week 4. The Washington game was lost when we missed a FG in the closing seconds and couldn't stop Brunel in OT. Against the NFC East we are 2-1, with wins against the Giants and the Cowboys. Both games were very close however. A FG with no time on the clock at home against the Cowboys, and a very lucky win yesterday against the Giants in OT.
That said, both those games were at home where we play much, much better...
Since 2002, we are 1-8 when playing on the east coast (and the one victory is Tampa, not really east coast). For some reason we really seem to struggle out there. The game being on Monday night may alleviate some of the travel and time zone issues, but our away record speaks for itself. Also, being the media **** that he is, Alexander is lights out on Monday and Sunday night... here in Seahawk land we're hoping the trend continues.
Offense:
Hawks are currently the #1 ranked offense in the NFL when ranked by yards per game. That ranking is somewhat inflated given we have had a relatively easy schedule against several poor defensive teams. Still, make no mistake we can move the ball and score points.
The foundation of our offense is our offensive line. Everyone knows about LT Walter Jones and LG Steve Hutchinson, but C Robbie Tobek, RG Cris Gray and RT Sean Locklear have been fantastic as well. In fact, the majority of our run yards come from runs to the right (slightly misleading because Shaun cuts back to the left frequently).
The key to limiting our offense is to stop the run. If Shaun is struggling, our offense is struggling. He's having an MVP season though, so stopping him is easier said than done. This year he's averaging 5.1 yards per carry for 1339 yards, 20 TDs and has yet to lose a fumble.
QB Matt Hasselbeck is quietly having a great season as well. He ranks #3 in the NFC in yards, and #3 in QB rating. The rating is somewhat misleading because Shaun Alexander gets the majority of our red zone touches.
Our wide receivers position is probably the weak point of the offense. #1 receiver Darryl Jackson has been out for 8 weeks, and is not expected to return on Monday night. Stepping up big time in his absence has been Joe Jurevicius, but he is really more of a possession receiver than a down the field threat. As a result, we've had trouble stretching the field and teams have been able to sit on slants and stack the box against the run. DJ Hackett is starting to emerge as a downfield threat, but he is a long way from scaring anyone.
Defense:
Our defense has overall been a pleasant surprise. They give up a lot of yards, but have limited opponents to FG when in the red zone. Overall, our defense is ranked #26 in the NFL (by yards). We are 13th against the run, but 23rd against the pass. In the red zone however we are ranked #2 behind the Bears.
Considering we lead the league in sacks but are only the 23rd ranked pass defense, it should be obvious that we've have had some issues with our secondary. FS Ken Hamlin is on IR, and starting CB Kelly Herndon injured his knee against he Giants and will not play against he Eagles. Former first round pick Marcus Trufant has been inconsistent making some fantastic plays but allowing equally as many big plays and PI penalties.
Our defense is very young, we have 8 new starters from last year. Starting at linebacker are two rookies, Leroy Hill and Lofa Tatupu. Tatupu is having a defensive rookie of the year season, but he's still a rookie and does have trouble getting off blocks at times.
The defensive line has played well. Back up RDT Rocky Bernard leads all interior linemen in sacks, and DE Bryce Fisher has played strong as well. As I said, they lead the NFL in sacks but also play well against the run.
Special teams:
Anything but special. Basically we just hope they don't lose games for us. Returns are poor, as is kickoff coverage. Tom Rouen has punted the ball well this year, and Josh Brown has been money kicking except for the Washington game.
Injuries:
Starting CB Kelly Herndon will be out. WR Darryl Jackson will probably not play either. Starting LB Jamie Sharper also looks to be out.
Anyway, here's to an injury free game
Sorry that's it kind of long. ^-^
Here's a shorter scouting report for the Eagles:
Offense:
Passing Game: No. No QB, inexperienced WRs, pass-blocking linemen are out.
Running Game: No. Head coach hates running and breaks out in hives when its mentioned.
Defense:
Secondary: Nope. Can't tackle. Take bad angles.
Linebackers: Don't run directly up the middle and you'll be fine running against us. Throw to your TEs A LOT.
Front four: Please. The best players have been rookies and the whole line has been inconsistant.
Special Teams:
The worst I have ever seen, ever. Seriously. Cover your eyes awful.
Prediction:
Eagles - 52
Seahawks - 1
The Seahawks would be choking dogs were they to lose this one.

That's pretty much been thier M.O. for the last 5 years or so.
Yeah, I agree with almost everything they said.
Here's my take on what's happening with the hawks and how to beat them.
Our offense was fine the first 3-4 weeks that both Jackson and Engram went down and they started force feeding the ball to Alexander, and Jurevicious, Hackett, and Urban all stepped up.
But lately teams have figured out that playing 8 men in the box, with a safety/LB shadowing Alexander is the best way to play him. It doesn't seem like anyone is able to shut him down, but at least it minimizes him (100-120 yards). And if the CB's/Safeties play bump and run and are physical with our receivers it causes all kinds of havoc with our offense. Until they get Jackson back, the bump and run virtually takes away our passing game.
Also, I know Jim Johnson always creates all kinds of problems for us. But our O-Line is one of the best around (excluding yesterday, I don't know what the hell happened), hopefully they'll be able to adjust and pick up the diffenet packages he'll put together.
As for our defense. Their injuries are starting to catch up with them. When Marcus Tubbs was healthy, they had very good run stoppers in Darby/Tubbs for 1st and 2nd down, then would send in Bernard/Terrill for passing situations. And it worked very, very well. Now Tubbs (DT), Hamlin (FS), and Sharper (OLB) are out and it's starting to show. With Bernard now starting, teams have better luck running up the middle on 1st and 2nd downs, and we're not getting the pass rush on 3rd downs with a fresh Bernard. Which is starting to expose the secondary. Now Herndon (CB) is added to the list, and Babineux (SS) will be playing in the Nickel out of position.
So, both the offense and defense are starting to show chinks in the armor. Look no further than yesterday for the blueprint on how to beat the hawks.
The Giants jammed our receivers, played 8 in the box, and virtually shut our offense down.
Then they ran Barber up the middle, and then started running their play action to Shockey and Burress for $$$.

Who knew?
Ha, Ha.
Here are some quotes from the Giants after yesterdays game about the fans.
"A lot of times I couldn't hear anything," Giants right guard David Diehl said. "I was right next to Eli (QB Manning) and I couldn't hear him ... You can put up speakers (in practice), but there's nothing that simulates a game like this. There's nothing you can say or do."
Added running back Tiki Barber: "I don't know if it's the design of the stadium or the vigor of the fans, but it gets loud here."
The Seahawks are currently starting two PSU alums at WR.

Don't forget Jure-VICOUS owns us. Sure he's slow... so our secondary will get cocky and he'll torch them, again.

Yes, I know that Hutchinson is likely to be retained one way or another. But if he does hit the FA market I have a feeling that Reid would go after him. Andy loves OL and this one would come with an endorsement from Andy's daddy, Mike Holmgren.
I am jealous of your left side of the OL. Walter Jones, although Umenyiora got him yesterday, is the best LT in the game.
I like Bernard and think he would look good in our DT rotation. I also liked Marcus Tubbs out of Texas a couple of years ago.

I know he wasn't in the secondary, but him and Mr. Groin off the bone but I still want to play and hurt the team were the guys responsible for that play and I still would like to kill the both of those losers. :P
He's 6'5. Our defense doesn't know how to handle anyone over 6'1.
Yeah...they'll run zero coverage again and our CB will bite on the pump fake thus leaving the receiver behind him with nothing but grass and the endzone!
Seattle is going to murder the Eagles.

Yeah...only if you cloned Trotter so he was the SLB, MLB and WLB.
Being 0-16 is your plan for next year, huh?
:flipoff
Don't hate, Mr. Failure!
Reno, Trotter, Pinkston. Our 2006 starting linebackers.
Speaking of Reno...
Watchim him get moved to CB so he has a shot to make it next year.
Just like Parry going from LB to FB.

I know this is true, yet I tell myself things like, "Look at the Seahawks road record over the past few seasons. It's atrocious. They still had a good team, allowing them to win at home; still they couldn't win on the road - at all," and "If the Eagles can shut down LT then why not Shaun Alexander?"
I still harbor hopes of playoffs, though.

Seattle is 7-6 on the road the last 2 seasons.
seattle also never shouldve beaten new york or dallas, though its pretty funny and good that they did.
thats why karma is a bitch, and things will even out with a loss to the crappy Eagles :yay
Seattle is not so hot when they have to come east, though.
Stop getting your hopes up guys. The Eagles lost to the taterskins. Hang your heads in shame. Shame, I say!

I'm having trouble seeing the corrolation. I'm simply pointing out that the Eagles lost to the worst team in the NFL. And that it's shameful. At best. Makes me happy I don't live down there anymore.
GOOOOO SEAGULLS!

seattle 6-8 this decade on the east coast
there isnt a chance in hell the eagles win this game...in fact seattle minus four is the lock of the week
remember 38-0 in 98???
The Eagles could win this game if Seattle has some major in-game injury problems.

Bobby Hoying...I don't think we crossed teh 50 yard line in that one....or we only did once. Something crazy(typical) like that.
I think Rickey Watters and Ahman Green both had 100 yards rushing that day......or close to it.

I hate to agree with IGY, but if I gambled on Eagles games and wasn't an Eagles fan, I think I would give away those points, too.
That said -- Hawks suck on the east Coast. Alexander loves MNF. The Hawks have been pretty lucky the last two weeks, and are not looking like a 9-2 team right now. Eagles have an emotional night, stirring up energy levels. I'll be there, and I have never seen the Eagles lose in person in Philly.
I honestly think this game could go either way. Here's hoping it tilts a bit to the home team.
Eagles - 20
Seahawks - 17

not really...i assume dook is slanting the numbers by counting the 'last two seasons' as last season and the season we are currently in...but if you count the last two full seasons they are 6-10 as they were a horrible 2-6 in 2004

That jerk. I wanted to slant the numbers by not including this season.
Shaun Alexander is dead!
QuotePhiladelphia (home): The Eagles defense is one of the league's worst against the run on the road, but it ranks first at home. This unit allows a mere 57.2 rushing YPG at Lincoln Financial Field -- that's 102.6 fewer than it surrenders on the road. What's more, eight of the 10 rushing touchdowns allowed have also been on the road.
