Spads just reported on Eagles Live.
Guess I dropped the Sponsorship of Herremans a little too fast. :paranoid
Lets look at the brightside, at least we don't have to worry about Donovan getting injured :evil
Herremans, Clarke, Jackson, Andrews, Runyan...
Big drop-off in pass blocking, upgrade in run-blocking.
Watch Reid throw 50 times. :-D
love it
tra isnt on this team next year anyway...lets see what herreman got...i havent been this excited about an eagle team since the superbowl

That's a shock. When they are 4-6, you're excited about them.

They must have had to peel you off the ceiling in pre season.
Scott Young and Andy Hall promoted to the 53-man roster. 4 BYU players on the roster now.
Looks like the team may have to blow up the offensive line next year. That could make or break the team. Here's to hoping Herremans plays out of his mind.

yep...this has been the case since the summer imo...which is why the OL is priority number one this off season

um...why wouldnt he be on the eagles? we're going to cut a pro bowl LT?
Yes, this team would cut an aging Pro Bowl player. Especially one with injuries.
If Herremans plays well, Thomas is toast... kind of like Lito Sheppard covering Terry Glenn. Oh!

So that way you have Herremans and _____ at tackle next year.
Its possible, but I dont think theres a reason to.
Manneans and Andews at tackle next year. Who knows who we'll have at guard though.

ex-pro bowl left tackle. i dont think hes gone quite yet but i think next years training camp and/or pre-season makes or breaks whether he'll be here for the remaining year on his contract. he has one year left right? or is that runyan who has one left.
thomas just had a false start called on him

Hicks and Clarke. That would be a formidable road-grading line.
Even though option #2 is to shift Herremans to RT and find a LT somewhere else (or just keep Tra for one more season).

Calvin Armstrong fills your blank.
We're screwed.
Calvin Armstrong screws defensive ends.
I think (and hope) Runyan comes back.
I also do not think this will be Tra's last year. Next year (2006) will likely be his last year here. His cap number actually goes down next year. And after 2006, even though he is signed through 2008, he has no dead money tied to him if cut. His SB proration ends after 2006.
2005 - $6,142,857 cap number
2006 - $5,042,857 cap number ($3.65M base salary + $1,142,857 SB proration +$250K roster bonus)
2007 - $4,800,000 cap number ($4.55M base salary + $250K roster bonus)
2008 - $5,700,000 cap number ($5.45M base salary + $250 roster bonus)
So if he is cut this coming off-season he will count $1.142M against the cap.
If he's cut then he'll never get that big money deal that he was obviously looking for when he hired Drew Rosenhaus. Who would pay fat cash for him after serious back surgery?
FYI...
Fraley would only cost $200K in dead money if cut in 2006.
Goodbye Hank.

Hello LeCharles Bentley! >:D
He'd be a nice pick-up. But I want Steve Hutchinson. Or maybe Clarke turns into a stud. I like him a lot.
LT - Thomas
LG - Hutchinson
C- Jackson
RG - Andrews
RT - Runyan
or
LT - Hicks
LG - Hutchinson
C- Jackson
RG - Andrews
RT - Runyan
or
LT - Hicks
LG- Clarke
C - Jackson
RG - Andrews
RT - Herremans (or Hicks here and Herremans at LT)
Also don't discount a LT in the draft either. A couple of studs out there this year.
Guard is one of those positions like linebacker and running back in which the FO won't spend more than is necessary.

Heh heh... you said "Hicks" and "road-grading" in the same sentence.

It seems that they think Herremans can be the LT. I would not be surprised at all to see this line next year:
LT - Herremans
LG - Hicks
C - Jackson
RG - Clarke
RT - Andrews
Herremans, Clarke and Jackson have just been given the opportunity that all young players hope for. I think the Eagles are really giving each of them a shot to earn the starting spot going into training camp next year. I know Reid likes continuity and guys that have experience on the o-line, but the Runyan, Fraley, and Thomas spots could all realistically be up for grabs. It looks like Jackson is more talented than Fraley, Runyan of course isn't signed beyond this year, and Thomas just had part of a disc in his back removed.
Tra is the biggest question mark. Back surgery tends to be one of those things that keeps you from ever being right again. Of course players do come back from back problems all the time - see LJ Smith, and Tra is a professional athlete with all the resources to get him back playing again, but carrying around 350 pounds and having your back operated doesn't sound very good together.
Runyan has played well enough and brings such an important attitude to the line that I think if you can keep him around for a couple years without having to pay big money, it makes sense. Then you can keep Andrews at RG and move Clarke back over to LG and have Hicks as the guy who can fill in at any of the tackle or guard spots.
I don't know how it works out for Fraley if Jackson continues to play well and really masters the o-line calls. If Jackson can get to the point where Reid trusts him, I think Fraley will be a backup or possibly even cut if they think Darilek can play center and guard.
I think that as far as helping the Birds figure out their plans for next year, the final five games of the season are more critical for the o-line than any other position group.
