ROSTER JUGGLING: SAFETY DANCE

November 16, 2005
By DAVE SPADARO

The frustrating rookie season of safety Sean Considine is over. The Eagles announced on Wednesday morning that Considine has been placed on Injured Reserve and that veteran safety Jack Brewer has been signed to a one-year contract.
The Eagles also signed quarterback Jeff Smoker, a standout at Michigan State, to the practice squad.

Considine injured his shoulder in training camp and was unable to take part in the preseason or the first three regular season games. He had eight special teams tackles until the Dallas game, in which he suffered a separated left shoulder, ending his year.

Brewer was originally signed as a rookie free agent by Minnesota in 2002 after a fine career at the University of Minnesota. Brewer played with the Vikings in 2002 and 2003, and then was waived and awarded to the Giants off waivers in 2004.

Last year with New York, Brewer played in 13 games and was second on the team with 19 special teams tackles, including 16 solo hits.

Brewer was waived by the Giants on August 30. He is expected to be in uniform on Sunday when the Eagles play the Giants at the Meadowlands.

Smoker was a sixth-round draft pick by the St. Louis Rams in 2004.

I want McMahon to keep starting,

But I do want the Skins to get beaten on in the final game. Either for the Birds to knock them out of the playoffs or to put them in last place in the division.

Washington plays SD this weekend. F'ing Gates got hurt yesterday though but I still think SD kills 'em.

Smoker was picked up by STL, not by the Eagles.

We have no #3 QB so that probbaly means Kordella will be here tomorrow.

Strickland is a good pick-up.

despite hodges total lack of leg strength. his ability to place the ball inside the 10 was probably the best i have seen in a long time.

should have kept hodges and just used bartum for long punts. even though he snaps the ball...he can do it all.

QuoteWR Ford Added

The Eagles roster now stands at 52 after the team acquired receiver Carl Ford off waivers from the Chicago Bears.

The 6-foot, 182-pound Ford saw action in 10 games with the Bears in 2005 before being released on Nov. 22. A seventh-round draft choice of Green Bay in 2003, he spent his entire rookie season on Injured Reserve with a knee injury.

Ford was released by the Packers on Sept. 5, 2004 and was signed to Chicago's practice squad two days later, where he spent the entire season.

A native of Monroe, MI, Ford was a three-year starter at Toledo, posting 154 receptions for 2,039 yards and 17 touchdowns.

QuoteEagles re-sign Landeta amid moves

Hall also released to make room for Owens on roster

By Jeff McLane

Inquirer Staff Writer

The Eagles announced today that they signed punter Sean Landeta to the 53-man roster for the released Nick Murphy and that they moved another player to make room for Terrell Owens.

The 43-year-old Landeta hasn't played a game in the NFL since Week 10 of last season with the St. Louis Rams. He played for the Eagles during the preseason while punter Dirk Johnson recovered from surgery to correct a sports hernia.

Landeta, a veteran of 22 years and five different teams, previously played for the Eagles from 1999-2002. He career punting average is 43.3 yards per attempt.

Murphy was cut after just one game of duty. In seven punts against the Packers, he averaged 39.3 yards. He was replacing Reggie Hodges who was filling in for Johnson, who is out for the season.

Quarterback Andy Hall was also released, but will most likely to be signed back to the practice squad later this week.

Hall's departure was needed to make room for Owens, who will be added to the active roster now that his four-game suspension for "conduct detrimental to the team" is over.

The Eagles are expected to deactivate Owens for the rest of the season.

Injury update. Defensive tackle Sam Rayburn has a shoulder sprain and is day to day. ... Linebacker Dedrick Roper has an elbow sprain.

It was amusing when they pointed out during yesterday's game that Nick Murphy is the 8th Eagles to kick a ball in 2005.  Maybe the Eagles are trying to save the season by setting a new record.  I'm telling you... my avatar will prove to be quite timely after one week of Sean's Landeta.
