There were some good things in the game last night. I know the season is over, but I'd like to talk about some of the encouraging things we saw, and daydream a bit.
First and foremost, the Westbrook-Gordon tandem worked very well. Westbrook is a known commodity; his performance was on par. Gordon however made me feel football happy at times. He did a great job of gaining the extra 1 to 3 yards by falling forward. He ran with some confidence and authority. Is anyone else thinking that Gordon might become an important factor in the Eagles offense?
Cole was a nice surprise. He was disruptive AND produced sacks, a combination our DEs haven't been able to boast lately. I hope he won himself a lot more playing time with this performance. I can't say I think he's going to be a stud or anything, but no one else is stepping up in that position, so what the hell. I'll root for the guy.
Akers looked good. Nevermind the game ending kick...if he had made that kick it would have been beyond remarkable. The 48 yarder was very solid, though. And he didn't come up lame afterwards. It's nice to have him back, and I'm dreaming of future games when we can stop chewing our lips every time the kicker comes out.
Jackson farged up a few snaps, but he recovered as the game progressed. I'm a Fraley fan, but that doesn't keep me from looking at this new giant of a Center and thinking, boy wouldn't it be nice if this guy could become a dominant mutha..
Anyone else wanna chime in with happy delusions and hopes for the future?
i was happy with the running game, you could tell that they practiced it all week, just the way the line blew the Cowboys off the line. Gordon is a tough inside runner, a good changeup to Westbrook.
Reggie Brown was able to get open.

That's the spirit! Nevermind that he dropped every other pass his way. At least the farger got open!

I agree. LJ had his fair share of dropsies in his rookie season.

exactly, and now he catches the ball, and drops it later. next year, he should be able to hold on to it for an entire play.
See? Who says Philly fans are dour and pessimistic? Just look at all the happy hope here!!

I was very proud of the running game. They pouned that ball and the Cowboys were in complete shock. They really had no answer. Hopefully, they continue to work on that the rest of these meaningless games.

i was on record day of the draft as saying this guy would/will be a pro bowler one day...hes a man...one of the few on this team
don't forget Chad... he was a YAC machine last night
Get FredEx!!

Cole and Jackson are both future Pro Bowlers IMO. I was very impressed with both guys (yeah Jackson messed some things up but that's going to happen when you're making your first ever start).

That's an excellent idea. When something bad happens, don't think about it. It could lead to clinical depression if you do think about it. Smart. You will go far.
The Eagles played a better last night. But lost.

I suggest that you go to:
Depression Screening Test (http://www.med.nyu.edu/psych/screens/depres.html)
Take the test. Consider counselling, if you think it may be necessary. You know, a lot of people think that depression is "all in your head." But it isn't. It's very much a physical, chemical problem (http://www.afraidtoask.com/depression/depressionneurobiology.htm), just like breaking your arm.
And always remember two things:
1) It's only a game (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0743417291/qid=1132077367/sr=1-1/ref=sr_1_1/104-4373129-4425520?v=glance&s=books).
2) Things Only Get Better With Love (http://www.eltonography.com/songs/things_only_get_better_with_love.html).
You're a troll. Leave.
What does it say about Fraley when a converted tackle from the practice squad did a better job than he did at any point this season?
Greg Lewis looked good blocking downfield in the running game.
Westbrook and Gordon looked like a legit 1-2 punch. Exactly what I would want from them. If we don't keep Gordon after this season AR should have his farging head examined.
Cole had a nice night. I don't put a lot of stock in players who get sacks in bunches and do nothing ther est of the time so I'll wait and see, but very nice night.
Westbrook should be returning every punt. Period.

probably the same thing it says about the coach whos started him the last five years
I guess it means calling the blocking assignments isn't as important as being able to run block against a 3-4.
I have to question splitting Chad out wide, even if it did work for one play. Let the big guy stroll through the middle of the field and let him catch & roll.

I'm just trying to help. I'm sorry if I'm not doing a good job. I'm not a trained psychologist, just an amateur doing my best to try and comfort and help all of you in your time of grief. If I'm not helping very much, perhaps a professional psychologist would do better. They can hook you up with drugs, you know. Make all your troubles go away. *Poof.* Just like that.
And the Eagles did play a much better game than the Cowboys. Dominated the trenches on both sides of the field. Dominated the running game on both sides of the field.

i think that was more to get the linebacker out of the middle of the field, except they started not to cover him so Donovan threw it to him and let those Mormon legs go to work.

As I said, I'm not a trained psychologist, so I can't diagnose... But I suspect you may also be suffering from something else: bigotry. You can't stand to even see other people who belong to a certain class. Commonly people who suffer this affliction are bigoted against people of other races, religions, gay people, etc, but I think you can also be bigoted against Cowboys fans.
Don't get me wrong though: you have freedom of assocation rights under the 1st amendment. You have a right to be a bigot. But do you really want to be? Do you have children? What will they think of you?
You are trolling. Seriously, go away.

When they claimed Gordon off of waivers, Reid said he'd always liked how he ran with the ball and how he caught it out of the backfield. Now the question becomes--if Gordon impresses enough from now until Dec 31st (that's the date that extension would have to be signed by, I believe) would the Eagles sign him to at least a 2 year deal? Then you could have a Gordon-Westbrook-Moats combo, although I wonder when Moats is going to get the chance to show what he can do?
I was impressed with the job Jackson did--although I agree with another poster and we should see what he can do the rest of the season. If it's determined that McNabb has to miss the rest of the year, the running game will be MORE than a significant part of the offense.
Moats was drafted as insurance in case Westbrook got hurt or didn't resign. If he can't get ahead of Reno on the depth chart at any point this season I'm not going to hold on to any hope that he's going to be good.

Also, Team Chad doesn't appreciate your implying that #89 doesn't have blazing, breakaway speed. Not cool.
The catch and roll is so effective because it gets him positive YAC faster than running does.
Jackson did well, but I wish that the O-Line had a bit more continuity. They just couldn't get on the same snap count way too many times. It really was irritating.
Runyan was lousy with the false starts. But that's all the realistic stuff. And this thread isn't about that. It's about fantasy, and hope. Like this: I hope Jackson turns into the greatest center in the league by the end of this year.
See? The imagination is a powerful thing.
In that vein, would asking for the defense to get its shtein together and stop sucking so bad be too much? :D
anybody know fraleys contract status?
I believe Hank is signed through 2006. I'll have to check when I get home.
