I've long been a supporter of the front office because of the way they do things and 95% of the time, they got things right. I'd say that out of what, 70 players that have left the organization since 2000, 3 have had outstanding years for their new teams, and those three only had ONE outstanding year for their new team. When they signed FAs, they were judicious in their spending on UFAs, preferring to develop their draftees.
However, if this year ends without a playoff appearance (I'm NOT jacking in the season at 4-4), I believe they really need to sit down and review how they build this team, at least to get one SB win. I've always said that I'd rather have a team that contends every year than one that wins one SB, followed by 5 years of losing. I think the Eagles can do that, because of the way the structure their contracts. I don't believe they'll fall in the way that the Titans, Bucs, Ravens, Cowboys, taterskins and a few other teams have--overspend lavishly on FAs, go to the playoffs and then be cap strapped for 3 or 4 years.
I know that this is wishful thinking, but with an estimated 20-30M under the cap next year, and with what, only 3 Eagles that are going to be UFAs, and another three that will be RFAs, there's no reason they can't sign at least 4 quality FAs to supplement what we have--(WR, OL, DL, OLB).
reid has to go as coach...hes pathetic in games and sucks the life out of any team hes around...he did his job getting this team to where it is but its time to move on
They do what they can to win the Super Bowl now. It's not like you pick off of a menu and get to win the Super Bowl. Look how well that's worked for the taterskins.

Yeah, the odds of that are about as good as you getting the job when they give him the axe.

Unrestricted: Runyan, Kalu, Adams, Gordon, McCants, J.Thomas, Moreno, Cortez, Hodges
Restricted: D.Johnson, Hood, Mahe, Jenkins, Mikell
Well atleast Mahe is somewhat protected and we don't have to worry about another team snatching him right out from under us. There would be no point in watching them next year if that happened.

The players in bold could get tossed in a flaming pit of feces and I wouldn't bat an eyelash.
I'd take Hood back. Don't resign Adams though. The LBs need improvement.
Out of the unrestricteds, I only see possibly Gordon, J. Thomas, and Moreno back. Dirk, Hood, and Mikell will probably be back too. I hope to God that Mahe is NOT back, though.

What is Michael Lewis' status? Should he not be listed here?

His rookie contract actually runs through 2006. He was frequently mentioned in extension talks, because the Eagles tend to re-do those contracts more than a year before they expire if they want to keep the player long-term.

I knew about Kalu, Adams, and Runyan, but forgot about the guys that they signed since the end of the preseason.
Mahe will probably be back.

Yup.
McCants might be back now, also... if he can work in some reps and look good as the season goes on. Doubt it.
The way I see it, McCants = McMullen. Why not keep both?
The difference is that McCants is quasi-intellectual, and McMullen can't even fake it.
Dear god, isn't that the truth.
The philosophical change is this:
This regime will never sign another questionable character guy again. They took their shot on TO and it blew up like a firecracker in their hand.

The good news is that very few star WR's are headcases.

GET TORRY HOLT!!!

GET TORRY HOLT!!!
That should be pretty easy. He's only signed through 2009.
[TO_is_GOD]I don't care what it takes. This team needs a true number one receiver after stupidly giving up on the best in the game. I won't rest until they get Holt.[/TO_is_GOD]
Who had the "bold prediction" that T.O. would still be an Eagle in 2006-2007? Ha!
We may not take any more headcases, but we sure like to gamble on the injured...
Javon Walker in 2006 :-*
what FA WRs are on the horizon? i think we still need to bring a WR.
and our LBs need a overhaul.

Not a Holt fan, sorry.
IMO holt is prolly the most underrated WR in the league. he produces every single yr, never causes trouble and comes thru.
too bad he is a ram 4 life and getting up there in age.
det has some great talent which they can never utilize.
In other news, Reggie Wayne had a big night.
Reggie Wayne = product of the Colts system & Marvin Harrison playng alongside him.
When I see Wayne I think of him as Peerless Price in Buffalo with Eric moulds.
Some team (and hopefully not the Eagles) are going to pay him a load of cash.

That bold part would explain why TO_is_GOD/Avenger/Monster isn't a Holt fan. He only likes shteinhead egomaniacs.
I think Reggie Wayne and Reggie Brown across the field from each other, with Lewis in the slot, would be solid.
But he's not going to be worth what he'll cost, as Phreak said.
Is it entirely out of the realm of possibility that Brown could evolve into a viable number one receiver? That hasn't even been floated as a possibility...

Don't chase it, man. It's possible, but don't chase it.
farg that. McMullen, #1 of the future. Can't teach big (of course, with Billa, you really can't teach much of anything).
Here's the starting lineup of the future:
1: McMullen
2: Brown
3: Lewis
Says Reid, "I have confidence in the guys we have on the field."
Brown and McMullen looked good on Sunday night....no drops....
yeah but how many flanker screens did we have to run because reid suspected they would get open down the field?
how many times did mcnabb have tons of time but nowhere to throw to? yeah they played well and brown might even emerge as an #1 and lewis is solid but looking ahead to nxt yr just for a sec i want them to bring in a proven commodity. muhsin mohammed on this team would be awesome. he is big and makes the tough catches and gets open.
I'm not sure Wayne will cost all that much. If his numbers continue he'll barely crack 1,000 yards if that for the season. I don't think a team will way overpay.
