It's funny now that I read the TO/Douglas thread but I digress. Does anyone else think that the absence of key locker room guys, specifially Ike, Chad and Hugh, is having a negative affect on the team? I know Ike's absence has impacted the special teams but he was also a longtime vet. I gotta think that is one of the issues at the root of the problem. That and TO's continued struggle with his sexual identity.
Hugh is in the locker room and on the sidelines for every game. What are you talking about?
crackhead
I was saying to BigEd earlier this week that I thought it might be time to bring Chad back, if he was healthy enough to play. Good in the short passing game the Eagles are using (sure handed, but, um, not much of a YAC guy), and good in the locker room.
Ed said he didn't think Chad was healthy enough to play yet. Anyone read anything recently about him? If there's been an update posted on CF lately that I missed, I apologize...but, he seems like the kind of guy the Eagles could use right now. And, he can't do much less than Spach has contributed on the field this season.
If Dawkins, the idiot Trotter, McNabb, Tra, Runyan and let's say Short for the hell of it aren't enough to lead the team then farg them all.
i would agree with you. anytime you lose veterans, there's obviously going to be a window where some of the younger guys are going to need to learn to step up. i think the eagles realized this and that's why they felt the need to hire douglas back on. there's also more to it obviously. TO's a retard. Mcnabb seems scared to put owens in his place. but anytime you lose veterans you lose more then just a player on the field.

They lost Ike and Chad. With Dawkins, Hugh, McNabb, Trotter, Tra and Runyan on this team....losing those 2 is HARDLY the problem ::)
Ok, who else hesitated on opening a thread titled "I was thinkin" when they saw SUF started it?
I was actually thinking more that Chad is an upgrade over Spach...the leadership thing would just be a bonus.

Hugh is NOT on the team. Sure he hangs around, but he is not a player anymore.

He is IN THE LOCKER ROOM and ON THE FIELD with the team. You're not talking about on the field, you're talking about leadership in the locker room.
and he IS on the team, he is employed by the eagles. ::)

Actually, he's not
on the team. He was released. He's an Eagles employee but not an actual part of the team. Are the beer vendors on the team? What about the accountants? How about Spads? I don't know what his daily schedule is but I'm sure he's not at all the practices and I have no idea if he's in the locker room with them before the games or during halftime. I don't know if he sits on the sidelines with them or not. But even if he does, he's still not the same vocal leader he was before, even if he tries to be. Words coming out of his mouth aren't going to fire the team up quite as much when he doesn't have pads on.
Comparing hugh to beer vendors is ridiculous. He's on the team as much as the coaches are. He IS in the locker room before every game, on the sidelines during most games and in the locker room with them at halftime. He's part of the team like part of the coaching staff. ::)
they miss ike a lot....he's the one who jacked up freddie last year when he was acting like a gayrayder during super bowl week.

ahaha , i love this Tra and Runyan are on the team so losing key players that actually talk and voice opinions are no loss what so ever. umm mcnabb doesn't actually call anybody out if you didn't notice. he regurgitates the company line over and over until he finally gets ripped to shreds and comes out with " keep my name out of your mouth". like wow.. trotter yah, dawkins yah.. team leaders and locker room presences obviously. i didn't say it was
the problem, but it is a problem no matter how much green tint you want to use.
One player (Chad was never a vocal guy on or off the field) being Ike, doesn't completely LOSE a whole locker room.
Please, enough of this shtein, really. :-D
again didn't say it would completely lose the whole locker room. you seem to know everything, would've thought you would pick up on the fact that losing people does hurt in more ways then one. are we doomed into the dark ages of 3-13 seasons.. hardly but one person can make a difference in a locker room. since neither of us have the privilege of being in the locker room lets just agree to disagree.
This is the same horseshtein we all heard when Duce, Trotter, Hugh, etc...all left. That there were no leaders in the locker room. Well, they always seemed to do fine (no, they didn't win the SB, but that was hardly because of locker room leadership) after they all left. So I am going on the last 5 years of history with this team.
Just to state the obvious, and not taking sides because I have no idea what the role of the "Badassador" is...but, Hugh does not travel with the team. I'm listening to him on the radio right now, and he's in a bar somewhere in the Delaware Valley doing a remote with Gargano on WIP.
He won't be giving any pre-game pep talks to the squad in DC tonight... ;)
But, at least he was there to antagonize and throw down with Owens on Thursday. :yay
Losing Ike did hurt. Not only on STs but in the locker room. I think he was the one mistake the Birds have made personnelwise.
I've wanted Chad back for weeks now. Hopefully he'll get healthy soon.
Cut Parry
Move Spach to FB
Stop, Drop & Roll goes back to #2 TE.
Me too, Phreak. Wonder if he's healthy enough to play yet?
I don't know, bro... Vai was droppin hints a few weeks ago that Chad would be in town for a physical but nothing ever came of it.
Maybe he needs a week or two more. Either way...I want him back on the team. Especially since TO is gone and we're back to being D&D.
Chad would be a great red zone threat. I would love to have him back. Plus he's a class act who can have a calming effect on the rest of the locker room.
I'd love to have Chad back as well. I think he's always acted as Dmac's safety blanket on the field.
I'm not going to read everyone's responses. Though, no doubt, they are riveting. I would say that this team absolutely misses Chad, Ike and Hugh. Hugh is around, but its definitely not the same. Chad was one of the only non-mcnabb leaders on offense and missing Ike on STs speaks for itself.
This team misses its leaders.

he was on the radio locally here about an hour ago. so i am not sure he is there now.
he's not on the team anymore. he's a normal employee, just like the guys selling you $25 hats at the pro shop.

Agreed. But when you lose three guys who were vocal leaders for several years (count Hugh however you'd like) it's not like someon just instantly steps into that role. It would be great if someone did, but that's not usually the way it works.
Ike is definitely missed in that room. He commanded respect from everyone even though he was a career backup. He's the kind of guy who has limited talent and makes every bit of it. Too bad that Hoyda T.O. didn't have Ike's heart.
As long as Chad has some gas left in the tank, I'd definitely take him back. Character guys who produce are increasingly rare in the NFL and Chad's one of them.
I disagree about Douglas. He might be hanging around the locker room some but that's entirely different than strapping the pads on and going out the tunnel. IMO, they miss the old Hugh a lot more than the shell of a player he was last season.

Yeah I know. Everything you don't agree with is rediculous. Or ludacris. Or proposterious. Well here's a ::) right back at you.
He's not a part of the coaching staff and he's not on the roster. He is a member of the organization but he is not on the team, therefore he is no different than a beer vendor, ticket taker or towel boy except for the fact that since he is so recently removed from the team itself, he gets the extra perks of having some additional access to the team that other team employees may not enjoy.
I can't believe nobody mentioned Jermaine Mayberry. Quickly forgotten.
He's a backup on an equally crappy team. What about him?
