QuoteEagles | Team Reaches Agreement with Westbrook
Sun, 6 Nov 2005 09:15:00 -0800
Jay Glazer, of FOXSports.com, reports Philadelphia Eagles RB Brian Westbrook has agreed on a six-year deal to remain with the team. The deal is expected to be completed this evening.
Woohoo...
I'm off to go bet some money and drink some beers....
Now when they whup the Skins it'll cap off a great day.
This rules. Glad they were able to get this done to count a bunch of it against THIS year's cap.
I'm glad the Eagles rewarded the class acts. Hopefully this will manifest into the whole team being productive this evening.
Great news.
Now can the Eagles count any of this salary against the cap this year? Or has that deadline passed?
See above, Z. They made the cutoff for this year.

I think tomorrow was the cutoff? Or the 10th? Something in early November. LOL
good. glad that nonsense is over.
i was thinking of going out and getting a westy jersey now. but then i remembered my curse, so i said forget it.
but this is great news. could this be the first contract signing, that got a little public and the eagles has some pushback from the player...that actually worked out in the end (under reid and banner)?
at least TO did something positive for the team this year
HAHA
westbrook just got TO's roster bonus he was due in march :-D
This is awesome. I'm glad that we got to use hopefully a good chunk of the empty cap room this year. That just makes this deal extra sweet.
Hopefully they loaded his base year to be counted against this year's cap so we will still have ample room come next season. We should have a ton of space after we let go of TO's option.
yeah they still were under the date for this years cap which makes it that much better.

That's a given. I would guess at
least $5 mill of his bonus is a roster bonus. At least.
Westbrook sucks.
Cut him!

Yeah. All that money up front I'm sure made Westy eager to sign on that dotted line.
It makes no difference to Westbrook whether his bonus is structured as a SIGNING bonus or an initial ROSTER bonus. He still gets all of it up front. The only difference is that a roster bonus doesn't pro-rate over the life of the deal.
Get yo popcorn ready........wait a sec where did hear that before?
Beautiful! Im am glad that one chapter of the Eagles soap opera is closed
yes, im so happy this happened :yay
now no more injuries westbrook...knocking on wood
now we have to get jose cortez locked up and things will be set
:yay
About time!
Now time to resign Hugh - the team bouncer ;D ;)
i guess that's good news...although i want to see the financial details before i decide for sure.
one good thing...we won't have to listen to westbrook whine about his contract after games any more. :yay
About time is f'n right.
Good job Eagles. I've been on em lately, but they made a great move.
Nice. Let's see if Akers is next...

Nice. Let's see if Akers is next...
i'd hold off on akers until he gets healthy & shows that he still has it.
mort says 5 years, almost $25 mill....$9 mill signing bonus
Michael Lewis next(although he hasn't played well).
"Mr NC": the Eagles aren't impressed with Lewis' pass coverage and he wants top safety money like Roy Williams...

Well, considering roy williams blows in pass coverage, I'd say that's about right. :-D
Dammit! You beat me to it, PG.
:boom
:-D
Great move! Balanced the bad and ugly with the good this weekend.
Five years seems a bit long for Westy (he'll never play to the end of that contract), but I'd guess the length of the deal is for salary cap reasons.
i guess that's good news...although i want to see the financial details before i decide for sure.
one good thing
you can be sure the financial details are pro team...one thing the eagles do is when they sign someone they do the contract in a way that is as beneficial to the team as possible...
Let's see if Akers is next...
eff akers...he dont get ish...hes a damn kicker whos locked up for multiple years...he plays out this contract then they bring back franz

I agree with this and am pretty confused as to why hunt would even think it would be something that would be damaging to the cap....when we all know exactly how the Eagles work money-wise. ???

Chipmunk Banner ALWAYS takes care of it that way.
hunt wants to see details before rushing to judgement. on the surface, it sounds good though. i'm not a huge westbrook fan but he's a weapon & a playmaker and they need that in this offense...especially with the a-hole (hopefully) gone for good.
Nice to see BWest get his due :D

that's ok. I picked up my girl a Kearse jersey in an attempt to bring her one step closer to loving football. Not only do the Broncos whip the living shtein out of Phillly, but Kearse gets hurt.
So he got less than Lamont Jordan. All is OK with the world... ;D
i had a weird about his eventual signing months ago....this thread is dead on for what it was in my dream.
scary!
Nice to finally get some good news for a change.
I Win!
Great to hear that there is ONE less headache surrounding this team.
Maybe Westbrook will break out the whoopin' stick on the taterskins tonight. That would be sweet to see. :yay

The last time the Eagles signed a player to a long term extension before the Skins game, was, I believe the 6 year deal Randall signed back in 1989--450 yards and 5 TDs.
Good memory, Bobby.
I don't recall that game off the top of my head, but I do remember Randall hitting Calvin Williams in the back of the EZ at the Vet in 1992 to win it against Washington though.
We're winning this effin game tonight, boys.

Nothing would be better than seeing the bitches shut out for 2 weeks in a row.

Trade Westbrook for Alexander!

Wonder when Glazer will update his erroneous story to reflect the actual FIVE year extension it is.
DGunn sez: 5 years, $9M SB, $16M in the first 3 years, $24M-$25M overall....

Niiiiice. He might not have gotten' as much as Jordan, but 9 mil is a nice fat ass signing bonus. His bank is gonna love him on Monday.
The IRS is going to love him on April 15.
Think we'll see anymore extensions today ?

I think he's allowed to defer most of it into an annuity (or something) until his playing days are over...he will then pay taxes on it as he takes it out.
well 24 hours later confirms that re-signing a guy doesnt take any sting out of this terrible season or any of the other nonsense.
