I'm going to agree with that simply because I think we all knew that the 98 Eagles would suck.  At least they knew how to live up to expectations.

Damn, folks, I'm hating on our Eagles as much as y'all are right now but I still couldn't go so far as to compare them disparagingly to the suckage that was '98.  Hell, we've already won more games than we did that entire season!

I'm actually enjoying seeing us get our asses handed to us. Andy needs to be taught a lesson.

I had a feeling that this was going to be a loss. In the grand scheme of things going 3-1 against the AFC west is probably better then the rest of the NFC East will do.

What does bug me about the loss is the way they went about it. The team is poorly coached right now. There's talent enough on both sides of the ball but something isn't working.

P.S. Lito's a fraud.
Title: Re: 2005 Point and Laugh at the Eagles Thread.
Post by: SunMo on October 31, 2005, 09:39:11 AM
there would be a different feeling about this season if the wins would have been in the dominating fashion like last year.  the problem is, they have gotten blown out 2 times, and they blew a lead to Oakland, needed a monster comeback againt KC and needed a miracle against San Diego.  they very easily could be 2-5 or even 1-6.
Title: Re: 2005 Point and Laugh at the Eagles Thread.
Post by: MadMarchHare on October 31, 2005, 09:40:51 AM
What pissed me off the most, was the return to last week's discussion.  I think RJS brought it up.  We had ALL the momentum in the second half, roared back to 7 down, and McNabb throws that pick.  The second week in a row he went farging stupid, and cost us a FG.  We got away with it last week on a miracle play, and this week it cost us the game.  We get 3 there, I seriously believe we win the game.  THROW THE BALL AWAY STUPID!!  What, you're going to argue Brown was open?!
Title: Re: 2005 Point and Laugh at the Eagles Thread.
Post by: SunMo on October 31, 2005, 09:42:22 AM
i won't defend the pick, but he did have one on one coverage with a rookie corner.  i think you'd take that matchup anyday.  i have a feeling Brown didn't cut to the post quick enough, allowing the corner to undercut him.
Title: Re: 2005 Point and Laugh at the Eagles Thread.
Post by: MadMarchHare on October 31, 2005, 09:43:55 AM
You don't pull anything risky with the game on the line.  At that point it was all about momentum.  A FG keeps it, a pick gives it away.  And, yeah, maybe it's a rook corner, but he's on a rook receiver.  A wash at best.
Title: Re: 2005 Point and Laugh at the Eagles Thread.
Post by: rjs246 on October 31, 2005, 10:01:19 AM
I saw this game as a loss, so I'm not ready to throw in the towel yet, and I agree that the rest of the NFC East is unlikely to go 3-1 against these teams. My worries are not that we lost, but 1) that after several games of ineffective offense, NOTHING was changed, 2) our defense is miserable and 3) our special teams have got to be the worst in the league.

The defense, I think, is a personel problem. Our LBs are WAY below average and our DEs are farging terrible.

The other two problems are coaching, pure and simple. The offense is a farging joke right now and the special teams are even worse. If that shtein doesn't get corrected this season is over.
Title: Re: 2005 Point and Laugh at the Eagles Thread.
Post by: SunMo on October 31, 2005, 10:08:01 AM
yeah, i thought this was a loss too, but not like this.  you would hope they would be competitive.

the main problem with this team is that no one is picking up the slack for anyone else.  the defense gives up an opening drive for a TD and the offense goes 3 and out, giving them no time to regroup.  then the defense gives up another TD, putting the offense in big whole, who ends up going 3 and out again.

all 3 units are piling garbage on top of each other.  the offense got it together in the 2nd half, but by then it was too late.

if donovan can't get past this slow start shtein than you might as well have him take the surgery.  it does the team no good to have him not be effective for an entire half while the oppsing team racks up a 21 to 28 point lead.
Title: Re: 2005 Point and Laugh at the Eagles Thread.
Post by: MURP on October 31, 2005, 10:11:18 AM
yeah, it is kind of amazing how bad the entire team plays as a whole.   You wouldnt think the Defense and the offense would be putting up terrible performances in the same games, multiple times.   When an entire team plays like crap I think it goes back to the coaches.

Losses hurt, but the way they have lost this year makes me sickl.
That pick McNabb threw going in to tie the game was bad, but what really kills me is that Gordon was on the 10 yard line completely wide open, and had McNabb seen him, he could have walked into the end zone.
They are just simply not getting anything done.
And for the D to get pushed around and dominated the way they did is just mind boggling.
I don't know, man. I'm so pissed off about this team. farging bums. All of 'em.

Andy needs to get off his ego trip! How can you have an injured QB and still refuse to run the ball!!

McNabb is more hurt then help for this team, he cant throw accurately most of the time. Hes taking a ton of bad sacks instead of throwing the ball away. Hes not seeing the entire field most of the time. McNabb isnt the same field general as last year plain and simple. Love the guy but why bother playing in pain when you cant do what you are used to doing.

Spach SUCKS! Parry SUCKS! Mahe (a Mormon keepsake) SUCKS!

LJ isnt consistent

Westbrook is being wrongly used 95% of the time. Probably wont resign with the Eagles based on ARs garbage offensive Offense Philosophy (ie ITS MINE IF YOU DONT LIKE IT GET THE FARG OUT)

No Dline pressure @ ALL

Kearse is a Mary with all his stingers!!

ARs offense is just too complicated for most players to comprehend. How is it that there are about 10 other teams using a variation of the WCO and they seem to bring in players including rookies who can play within a year?? Seems to me everyone the Eagles have drafted has been no better than a #2.

Post by: Wingspan on October 31, 2005, 12:11:48 PM
i am actually going to defend the offense here. the 1st quarter you have to give the broncos credit. the 9 man front completely baffled them. as it probably would anyone. even a max protect of 8 blockers isnt going to stop 9 guys.

take away the first quarter + (the first 5 drives...10 incomplete passes, 2 rushes) and the offense played pretty well compared to the last few weeks.

play selection from the 6th drive on...17 rushes, 26 pass plays (thats a 60/40 split).

mcnabbs numbers from the same point on... 12-24 (not terrible consindering they were down 28 goddamn points. and the 1st interception was a tipped pass i believe.) mcnabb was also throwing better at that point, and he was pretty mobile as well. again, not the best we've ever seeen, but certianly better than the past few weeks.

again, i think the offense kinda woke up this week, it looked more together on plays. not perfect, but better. again, this all happened after they were able to break the 9 man front of the bronco's and make them play more honest.

the special teams was decent at well. hood did average 25 yards a return. again, those numbers are not bad. and

the defense is just completely unreliable. there were three 70+ yard TD drives (2 of them were over 80 in the 4th quarter). the front 7 just blows. this "small and fast" defense that johnson loves is not working. i think teams have figured johnson out. and we have him as DC for what, 5 more years? there is not a DE on this team that ANYONE would think about double teaming, the Tackles are "ok" but then again, with no ends they become worn out and useless by the end of the game.

trotter is the only LB worth anything right now. mr bowtie and the bullet can eat shtein. the both suck. and neither would be a starter on any other team in the nfl. and they only start for the eagles because the backups are worse. Johnson doesnt value LB? well farg him.

the secondary is the strength of the defense, BUT they can only do so much. they've covered for the the rest of the defense all season. a game like yesterday was bound to happen. and will continue to happen until this "so called best DC in the NFL" actually gets his own ego put in check and sees that his scheme will not carry the defense so long as he doesnt pick up the talent. and since JJ pretty much has total control over the defensive personelle, this season long (minus one game) collapse of the defense is entirely the fault of the defensive coordinator.

not yet you aren't, if they don't do anything with it, then you can say you're right.  but right now we still don't know what they are going to do.

what can they possibly do with it to help this year's team?

i'm right.

there would be a different feeling about this season if the wins would have been in the dominating fashion like last year.  the problem is, they have gotten blown out 2 times, and they blew a lead to Oakland, needed a monster comeback againt KC and needed a miracle against San Diego.  they very easily could be 2-5 or even 1-6.

Sun,

Well said!  Feels more like 2-5 than 4-3.  Wonder how 4-4 feels >:(

i have not been one of the ones whining about the cap room up to this point.  but if they pass this deadline for putting bonus money towards this year cap without doing anything, they should be killed for it

no corey simon
no fullback
no kick or punt returner
horrid special teams
brutal wr's after TO

12 mil under the cap

ive lit them up from day one on this...even if they sign westbrook before the deadline they dont get a pass on this...its inexcusable

I know because I've gotten the info from a respected Philadelphia-area sports columnist and confirmed it from one that's not so respected but is at least privy to the inner workings from time to time.

Hey, I want the Eagles to spend it as much as anyone, but you might as well get it right if you're going to whine.

BTW, if Westbrook is signed this week as many people expect, the Eagles will likely pay at least $6-$7 million of his up-front money as a roster bonus on this year's cap.

imo they should have waited until after the season the sign westbrook and used the cap money to add (and keep) players to the team in order to win the superbowl this year...i love westbrook and want him here long term but they needed to improve the team and win the superbowl this year...not worry about whether westbrook or mike lewis would be around in 09...i would take a superbowl over westbrook any day

except i said this all summer and into the season

buying a superbowl is not the same thing as at the very least keeping your team in tact and really what should have been done is improve your team to get over that final hump...not take steps backwards

whats goping to happen now is that the whole season will be blamed on donovans injury...and its true that is the #1 reason they are in trouble....but it shouldnt hide the fact that they did nothing to improve the team over last year...and in fact made it noticeably worse...both on the field and off...oh and the game day coaching sucks balls

yes it does.  Which is why I dont think keeping Burgess, Simon, Mayberry, Reese or whomever would have made a real difference right now.

Who didn't they sign that would have made a ringing difference?

Burgess?  Come on.  He barely started last year and was hurt the rest of the time.  He had one good game and cashed in like a motherfarger.  Good for him.  At best, his loss was marginal.

Simon?  I'll grant you, he might have made a bit of a difference in run support but it was pretty clear he was done with the Eagles and wasn't interested in signing there anyway, so you can count him out.

Mayberry?  No.  Marginal difference at best.

Ike Reese?  Career back-up.  Nice player but certainly not a difference maker.  They miss his heart, though, I'll give you that much.

I'm not seeing it, guys.  All the gnashing that's going on over the cap is a joke because none of the players the Eagles let go would have make a significant difference to the wins/losses of this team thus far.

you're right on that one.  None of those guys are really huge impact guys.  Reese would help special teams and Mayberry could be useful due to his being able to block, but other that that it woud strictly be depth.

Burgess DID come up huge in the NFC playoffs last year, but considering his injury history, matching the deal Oakland gave him would have been ridiculous.  On the flip side, McDougle and Kalu were already under contract.

You're educating no one, huntie hunt.  The Eagles' philosophy in the FO has really been working well overall.  One year with a couple of "I told you so" instances is not going to make intelligent people think that a Super Bowl can be bought.  Also, most of us remember a defensive line which included Burgess and Simon sucking wind attempting to pressure the quarterback more often than not, so throwing a heap of money at them would probably have changed the course of this season very little.

It's easy to whine like a bitch when the team's losing.  It's hard to take a look at the big picture.

Burgess wouldn't have been starting if Kalu was healthy.

are you kidding...kalu is a joke and has been since day one in the league...burgess clearly showed big potential from his great rookie year to the end of last year...the only question was the injuries...and while that is a valid reason not to overpay for him it doesnt change the fact that they chose not too take a chance on him and the raiders did...

its not always about who you let go but its who you replace them with...of the players who left what did the birds do as far as replacing them with someone who was A) just as good B) preferably better...this is what you need top do when youre a possesion away from winning the superbowl...you need to take chances and maybe overpay a little at the time for a young skys the limit guy like burgess...especially when he plays at a possesion that the team self admittedly covets...if you arent going to overpay at a position that you put a high value on then when are you...ive said this a million times but the birds were not 6-10 last year and in a situation where they could afford to take their chances with people like greg lewis...jerome mcdougle...nd kalu...keith adams...whatever scabs replaced ike...rod hood or reno mahe in the return game ect....ect...

to me its a legitimate question to ask what this franchise values more a minimal salary cap # and a shot at the playoffs each year or a superbowl victory

Letting Simon go was a risk, but I don't see him getting sacks either.
Letting Burgess go was not a mistake at all at the time.  Not even a little bit.

Also, drafting Freddie Mitchell instead of Chad Johnson...  probably a bad idea.
Letting Tom Brady slip to the Patriots so he could later beat us in the Super Bowl?  UNACCEPTABLE.
Getting only a 2nd rounder for all-pro stud A.J. Feeley was a travesty.

OK, so maybe they do get it right once in a while.

The bottom line is that you're pretending you were upset about Burgess being let go all along, when in fact even you thought the Raiders overpaid him.  You're lumping Burgess and Simon in together, because your opinions on letting Simon go were more documented and more recent, so you're trying to get "credit" for both.
You're not fooling anyone.

despite mountains of evidence to the contrary, not one of you can admit that letting burgess & simon go was a mistake.
that's the big picture. :-D

I don't miss Simon or Burgess at all.  I do miss the days when mfunhole didn't troll so much.

Also, drafting Freddie Mitchell instead of Chad Johnson...  probably a bad idea.

that's my favorite one.  the thought of acutally having a pro-bowl caliber wide receiver who came from the draft  :drool

Letting Burgess go was not a mistake at all at the time.  Not even a little bit.

only cause of the money was it not a misatke...risky yes...and now we see why

and for the record i said on this board that burgess was a more important free agent than trotter and that if healthy hed one day be a dominant off the edge pass rusher in this league

The money was very high, considering his injury history and spotty production.  VERY.

im not asking them to sign six big name free agents EVERY year or replace everyone who leaves with someone who is better EVERY year or resign all their own guys EVERY year or use all their cap money EVERY year...all im saying is they should have done all that THIS year...

overall they have done a good job and deserve much credit for where they have gotten this team,...but they picked an awful time to have what was their worst off season

how exactly do you resign all of your own guys and then sign all these free agents, and make room for draftees and still stay under the 53 man roster?

I know know what IGY point really was but with the cap space the Eagles had some needs - a big one being running back - that wasn't addressed.

Come on folks we've all been Eagles fans for a long time and while there are a lot of reasons to be disappointed this is still our Eagles team and the year is yet 1/2 over.        Beleive!
