QuoteEagles Notes | Akers expected back within next 2 weeks
Eagles Notes
While most of Andy Reid's news conference yesterday concentrated on the Eagles' problems, the head coach offered one positive bit of information.
Reid said he expects to have kicker David Akers back either Sunday against the Denver Broncos or Nov. 6 against the Washington taterskins. Akers may practice as soon as tomorrow, Reid said, depending on how the kicker feels.
"Within the next few weeks, he will be able to work it out," Reid said.
Today marks one month since Akers tore the hamstring in his right, non-kicking leg in a 23-20 victory over the Oakland Raiders. The three-time Pro Bowl kicker has missed the last three games.
After Akers was hurt, reports surfaced that the kicker would be out from eight to 10 weeks, but neither he nor Reid confirmed his timetable for a return.
"If he's not back this week, he'll be back the next week," Reid said. "We will see how he does by Wednesday."
With Akers sidelined, the Eagles brought in Todd France, who had played in NFL Europe and had been cut by four NFL teams.
France has made 6 of 7 field goals this season, two from beyond 40 yards. He made two field goals in Sunday's 20-17 victory over the Chargers, from 23 and 40 yards out.
Once Akers returns, the Eagles likely will release France.
"Todd's done a nice job," Reid said. "He really has. He had good hang time on his kicks yesterday and gave our guys an opportunity to get downfield and cover them."
keep france around so the cowboys cant sign him. cut westbrook or owens if you have to, we cant let them have our backup kicker.
I think I'd hang on to Frenchy until Akers proves he's fully fit.
There's got to be someone on the 53-man roster who is expendable. Now, who could it be...?? :paranoid
When Akers gets back, France won't be on the open market very long. He's done a nice job filling in. As already mentioned, he very well could end up with Dallas. And that sucks.

I dunno. We can't cut Freddie Mitchell twice can we?

What he said. Akers looked like dung even before he got 'hurt' and the cheese-eating surrender monkey has been pretty damn good for us so far.
no way. let akers sit until he's so healthy he heals other players as he walks by them.
playing him too soon...and we have the oakland game all over, and especially now that its getting cold out, let akers sit, i dont care what his emotionally retarded and insecure ass says.
VIVA LA FRANCE
I agree with all of the previous posters who say let him rest until he's 100%. France has been money for us so far.
seems a little quick for Akers to come back from a muscle tear. :sly

He's got a
contract team to think about.
I think he tore the lining in his vagina.

for real...especially after they already played him when they shouldnt have...i wouldnt expect him to come back until at least thanksgiving
We need Akers back ASAP so Reid can pull out the surprise onside kicks again. :yay
i agree, sit Akers til 100 percent, we do not need him yet. why risk it??? why throw 60 passes a game either? ya got me. :win
i agree with letting him wait, France has been fine, no need for Akers to push it to get back.
I agree with everything everyone is agreeing with too.

Our little kicker is growing up. Let's go kill the bastich that did it to him.
Howard said Eagles have interest in Cortez.
Because they want one kicker for kickoffs and one for FGs which will be Akers obviously.
and I agree that the Eagles definitely need two kickers on the roster. We can't go through the Raiders fiasco again.
Howard is a farging retard.
If they bring in Cortez...I'll...I'll...well, I don't know what I'd do. But I'd do something.
France's k/o's looked better on Sunday.

If you're open to opinions, I humbly suggest you burn T.O. Then kick rjs. Then pee on his dog.
Yea, I don't want Cortez either. He is absolutely awful. He blows so many easy FGs. I remember one when he was on the Niners. I think it was against the Raiders but I can't remember. He blew a key easy FG at the end.
And love his taterskins ladyfriend.
yeah when you struggle to make 20 yarders its time to hang it up...i mean you already have franz on board...unless you can find someone who is clearly better than he why do it...and cortez is not clearly better than franz
Howard was saying they might just use Cortez for kickoffs. I don't even thinks hes all that better than France at kickoffs if at all.
He was a "kickoff specialist" in Minny last year.
Why not bring in the idiot midget Martin Gramatica? They're both the same...sorry ass kickers.
And this means Akers is ready to come back. It's got to mean that. Because having that loser ass ex-XFL ex-roofer on this team to kick FGs is a goddamn joke.
Hey Joser...call up Pat Ryan. he'll give you some killer roofing tips.
mmmmmm roofies...i always say if you wanna hit the poopies bust out the roofies
Janikowski knows all about roofies....and GHB.

Damn good idea, Ed. Damn good idea.
Be right back.
:-D
Ah, yes. That's more like it. A coupla Molson's make the world a better place. :deion
Don't sleep on the delicacy known as Mickeys. If you can get through 80oz. you'll forget all about the kicking situation. Chances are, you'll forget about a lot of things.
i love mickeys but it doesnt knock you on your ass like a lot of malt liquors...i believe its got the same alkie content as miller high life...probably why its a lot of peoples favorite malt liquor
you wanna get righteous bang out a 12 of red bull pounders
If you're going to drink beer, drink beer. If you want a kick, drink liquor.
Akers better have his ass kicking FG's this Sunday...

I'd rather see him kick field goals with his leg.

Considering how he was doing with his leg before he got hurt, his ass may not be a bad option...
Fill him with cabbage, beans, and broccoli and hope for the best.

Yuengling was mine. It was like $8.00 a case back in the early '80s. Then they went all frou-frou and shtein.
Dick Yuengling is right. :boom
