Few thoughts:
- I told you all LT's streak would end this week and you all told me I was an idiot for not starting him in my fantasy league. You all got owned eat your crow.
- LJ Smith... will you ever hold onto the ball?
- McNabb... is he really playing that bad or is the offense just totally out of rythm. I thought he looked good at times and bad at times. Overall he completed most of his passes so what was it?
- Sheldon Brown is the best corner in the game.
Oh, and this team got lucky no question about it. CAN SOMEONE TELL ME WHAT'S WRONG WITH THIS OFFENSE?
Is it McNabb? Playcalling? No run game? McNabb looked like he moved well and he didn't underthrow or overthrow a lot, but it was just a ton of passes deflected because they knew we just WOULD NOT run the ball.
This team has issues and needs them fixed starting tomorrow.
Merrill's call of the block (http://phaethon.homedns.org:58080/Amazing.mp3), for those who missed it.

Man, that ain't what I saw. It looked to me that McNabb wasn't on target at all.
McNabb didn't look 100%, but what I saw was that he completed the passes it's just the balls were thrown ugly. He still completed them though.
But as for not being able to move the ball, when he dropped back they had the field covered well. Why? They knew we wouldn't run. A lot of tipped passes, but I don't think he looked that bad.
Most alarming to me was the Eagles inability to cover the point spread.

couldn't run the ball.

Crow, my left nut. You're still an idiot for not starting him. You were an idiot before the 1st snap even happened because you benched him. He's the #1 FF RB for a reason and you don't bench them ever.
No one's happier than I am that the Eagles completely shut LT down, but it doesn't change the fact that fantasy-wise you made a dumb move.
Obviously it was a smart move if he didn't do well.
Normally, it wouldn't have been a smart move...you wouldn't see me benching Shaun Alexander.
I'm convinced McNabb has a low football IQ.
Last year's playoff game vs. the Vikes before halftime, he throws a dumpoff pass to Levens while inside the 10...too bad we had no timeouts left. Points squandered
During the last drive of the Super Bowl, he throws to Josh Parry right in the middle of the field. No more timeouts...40+ seconds gone.
Today he does the Levens' trick with LJ Smith. If we score there, I think the game takes a completely different turn.
You have the ball with no times outs left....Isn't it intuitive that you just can't chuck it in the middle of the field? This is pee-wee league shtein.
He's scared of throwing INT's...cuz that's how he ended two straight NFCCG's. He's scared.

Not only that, but the second series of the second half, he got the ball on the Chargers thirty yard line and couldn't get it in the end zone. That was farging terrible.
Only got to see about half the 4th today, but I'm sick as a dog right now so I'm not complaining, at least it's something. :yay for the win :boo for the offense. What the hell are they doing this year?

I actually was going to bench him as well, not because I thought he'd be shut down like that but out of general principle of benching anyone who's playing against the Eagles, but all my backups were on a bye week so I didn't have anyone else to bring in.
heh...KFFL thread talking about how the Eagles have to trade McNabb....and defends Reid's playcalling.
I think I just threw up a lot.
Well let's get the official tally from you all. Who is most to blame for the offensive struggles?
McNabb? I think he actually played ok. At one stretch he was like 23/24 or something.
Lack of run game?
Reid's play calling?
Protection issues?
Tally up your votes, I really want to disect what is wrong with this offense, because right now I'd give the nod to the lack of the run game. They HAVE to stick with it. Even if it sucks. The Chargers stuck with it, because they made the Eagles respect it. The other teams don't respect the Eagles.

im damn happy we won. i was jumping for joy but it wasnt a convincing win and yeah it leaves a lil to be desired for. our D and ST came up huge but can we count on them to do this every week? our offense has more than enough weapons to actually do more than score a single TD and mishandle the clock.

Trotter still sucks.
I see a lot of bitching about the play of the O-line, but I don't think they were the problem today. McNabb had plenty of time to throw, but I have to think that defenses aren't stupid, and they're dropping their entire defense back in coverage knowing damn well we're never successful running the ball.
And lets be honest, Westbrook is electric and a great receiver, but defenses have no respect for him running the ball. It might help if Reid would run more plays off tackle or try a pitch out instead. Running the ball up the gut and into the back of Fraley clearly isn't working.
I have to question the playcalling, because it seems Reid is calling a lot of possession catches (out patterns, hooks etc.) rather than slants and allowing the receivers to get some YAC.
McNabb and our offense is at its best when he's spreading the ball around, he did that briefly today and was very successful.
And FYI--On the Chargers post game show A LOT of fans were calling in and bitching about the call on Caldwells fumble. Wah!
And another thing: Our RedZone Offense SUCKS!!

As his career goes on I am starting to believe it myself. I see these young QB's like Brees, Leftwich, Delhomme, etc. rarely making these mistakes. The consistency of these errors is quite concerning. How long can we use injuries as an excuse?

Also, going by what PG says, which is a very valid point, maybe it wouldn't be such a great loss if he Childress leave.

Fire siren during game was false alarm
By Jeff McLane
INQUIRER STAFF WRITER
There was a false alarm at Lincoln Financial Field this afternoon and it had nothing to do with what was happening on the field.
The Eagles led the San Diego Chargers, 10-7, late in the third quarter when an alarm sounded in the club suite level, which holds private boxes and the press box area.
At first, it sounded like a new cheer added to the Linc's sound system, but then a voice came over the public address speakers asking for an orderly exit from the level's inhabitants.
Apparently very few left - dismissing the alarm as false - and the attention shifted back to the game, as the Chargers took the lead, 14-10.
"Had it been more serious, even the big screens would have had a message urging everybody to leave," Eagles spokeswoman Bonnie Grant said. "All the security would have been alerted to escort everyone out of the stadium."
There was a brief delay on the field as referee Ron Winter spoke on the sideline with a woman from the fire department and with Chargers head coach Marty Schottenheimer.
"The message was quickly relayed that it was a false alarm," Grant said.

I remember the only game I've seen at the Linc, the Ravens game last year, and I couldn't even hear my son in the seat right next to me hollering in my ear. The Linc has to be one of the loudest stadiums in the NFL.
It can still get louder. The lower bowl doesn't really make as much noise as it should.

My friends and I were cracking up when the cameras showed the stands while the alarm was going off and no one was leaving. I said it would have to be a terrorist attack to get anyone to move from their seats right now. It's Philly for crying out loud.

So, uh... Wow.
P.S. Even on the TD he gave up, Brown was tight in coverage. Sheldon Brown is easily the 2nd best DB on this team and definitely one of the top 5 cornerbacks in the NFL. Sheppard is more flashy, but Sheldon is all-around farging great.
Brown is close to a shut-down corner. Better, his head is always in the game and he displays great situational awareness (unlike certain quarterbacks maybe). His strip of the ball at the end of today's game is just one example of that.

I barf of Enberg and Dierdorf:
QuoteMedia Watch | And your waiter is ... T.O.
By Michael D. Schaffer
INQUIRER STAFF WRITER
Hi, I'm Terrell, and I'll be your waiter this afternoon... Unless, of course, you're Dan Dierdorf or Dick Enberg.
The CBS broadcast duo for the Eagles-Chargers game was distinctly unimpressed by Terrell Owens' latest piece of end-zone pantomime after he caught a 4-yard touchdown pass for the 100th scoring reception of his career.
Owens took a hand towel out of his pants, draped it over his left arm and carried the ball off the field as if he were a server carrying a tray.
"Seen better," said color commentator Dierdorf, a Hall of Fame offensive tackle.
"Four yards: I guess he saves the major stuff for the longer plays," said play-by-play announcer Enberg.
Dierdorf and Enberg piled on during a replay of the T.O. TD.
"Obviously, he had this one well planned," said Enberg.
"Back to the drawing board," advised Dierdorf.
"That's about a C-minus, wouldn't you think," added Enberg.
When San Diego wide receiver Keenan McCardell caught a pass for the Chargers' first touchdown, McCardell mimicked Owens' end zone theatrics, draping towel over his own arm - and drawing laughter from Dierdorf.
"Oh, there's a play off Terrell Owens' waiter routine," said Enberg.
"I believe that's the old saying, 'What goes around, comes around,'" commented Dierdorf.
It's amazing. That has to be the third time TO has had his 100th TD this season.

QuoteThe Eagles often played eight defenders in the box, sometimes nine, in order to stop the running of Tomlinson.
When asked afterwards if any team had ever bottled him up like that, Tomlinson struggled to find an example.
"Off the top of my head, I really don't know," he said. I will stay that it has been awhile it's been like that."
Chargers coach Marty Schottenheimer was more precise.
"Nobody has played him like that," Schottenheimer said. "That is a terrific defensive football team."

Sheldon is the best corner in football IMO. He does it all. He hits, he covers, he tackles he makes heads up plays, and he creates turnovers.
Again, some of us have known that since his rookie year. ;D
I didn't say he was the best corner in football then, but I always loved him as a corner and always thought he was better than Lito. I had no problem letting Bobby and Troy go.

I boo your Trotter/LJ hating! :flipoff :D
I don't hate LJ. I just cringe whenever he catches the ball and doesn't immediately go down.

Me too. He started holding the ball with 2 hands after the fumble.
I actually missed that play, but I didn't have to ask to know who it was.

...and he looks/talks/acts like Troy Vincent.
You wanna be a one man show, play golf!
Brown's forced fumble (http://www.startrekfans.net/video/Fumble.wvx) compliments of VaBeach_Eagle on the EMB :yay
After watching that again for the umpteenth time, its clear to the ball was on its way out prior to his knee touching the ground.
LJ should be taken to the middle of the field and shot in the back of the head by Chad Lewis for being such a butter arm. farging farger. Hold on to the gawdamned ball!

It's amazing. That has to be the third time TO has had his 100th TD this season.
So, that's like 300. That is amazing.
Yea, they said he got 100 during the Raiders game. What's going on around here?

No, that was his 1000th reception.
McNabb broke Randalls completions in a game record eh? ha.
two most hilarious moments of the season...
1. reid calling a play pass on like the 21st play of the 25 straight throws
2. going into the power I with gordon on the 4th down debacle...as if anyone on earth thought they were gonna run
hes is just an atrocious game coach

Yet somehow, he's managed to win more games as a head coach in this decade than anyone else.
Yep, Reid sucks.

TO has two rushing TDs from the 9ers days. so he scored his 100th TD...then yesterday it was his 100th TD reception.
yea im sorry but if they can't run the ball on 4th and 1, why try with a gimpy QB?
Quote"I don't know that I've ever seen [Philadelphia middle linebacker] Jeremiah Trotter have such a good game in coverage as he did on Sunday. He had an interception, which was kind of a fluke, on a tipped ball. But he also had three other passes defensed, and that's got to be a career high."
"You just knew, didn't you, that the Philadelphia special teams were going to make a [big] play sooner or later? They've been uncharacteristically shaky, and they're too well-coached to be playing the way they were. But a blocked field goal run back for a touchdown? Not even I figured that's how they would snap out of their funk."
...both from Pasquerfatty's morning after...
I wouldn't say ST is out of their funk until the kick off & return games comes back to form.
Chargers Monday Night Post Game Live is on right now, Schottenheimer is the worst appologist ever! :-D
They showed some replays from the LT shutdown, a guy who got little to no credit stood out to me, and that man was Hollis Thomas. He was a terror inside yesterday, he owned the middle and looked close to unstoppable. :yay

Hollis did have a good game yesterday. He chased down LT on a screen. :o
You know things are farged up when runningbacks are being chased down by DTs.
It's still on and they're showing a TON of highlights -- McNabb was moving around fine and as already noted was holding onto the ball waaaaaaay to long. What happened to 3 step drops and quick slant patterns? I always thought of the WCO as a YAC friendly offense.
FYI--Schottenheimer said the call on the LJ fumble was a good call. Plus, to their credit, both of the hosts and Marty said that the Refs made the right call on the Caldwell fumble.

That was a CBS game, right? It doesn't matter, I don't count on any network to get it's facts straight.

Never overestimate the mental capacity of a broadcaster. In our game, they called Anthony Thomas "Anthony Newman" twice.
Yea, I'm not saying they were right, but I don't see how you could mess up a simple stat like that up when all you have to do is go to profootballreference.com and look it up in 5 seconds. Not only were they one TD off but two because the following week he scored in KC too.
Like I said, they're broadcasters. They're too involved in trying to sound knowledgeable. Asking them to actually be knowledgeable is just asking too much of them. Look up a stat? Half of them are still trying to get walking while chewing gum down pat. ;D
