Title: The Culture of Life: Dio's Top Ten

QuoteLITTLE ROCK, Arkansas (AP) -- Michelle Duggar just delivered her 16th child, and she's already thinking about doing it again.

Johannah Faith Duggar was born at 6:30 a.m. Tuesday and weighed 7 pounds, 6.5 ounces.

The baby's father, Jim Bob Duggar, a former state representative, said Wednesday that mother and child were doing well. Johannah's birth was especially exciting because it was the first time in eight years the family has had a girl, he said.

Jim Bob Duggar, 40, said he and Michelle, 39, want more children.

"We both just love children and we consider each a blessing from the Lord. I have asked Michelle if she wants more and she said yes, if the Lord wants to give us some she will accept them," he said in a telephone interview.

Okay, lets get a few things straight, in no particular order:

1. That's a litter, not a family; a stud and a sow, not parents; savages, not civilized humans.
2. This narcissism parading as selflessness makes suicide look downright altruistic.
3. No two people are so damned good that the world should be made to suffer 16 of their offspring, not if Einstein fathered them with Jessica Alba and gave them only his brains.
4. Only religious zealots, the impoverished, or enslaved people do this.
5. Under no circumstances is this responsible, even if Adam and Eve can financially support them;  here's a test for responsibility: if everyone did this, would I approve it?  If your answer to that question in the context of this story is in the affirmative, then verily you be as stupid as they come.
6. These folks don't exactly shy from the camera.
7. Assuming for the sake of argument that the sow brought each whelp to full term, she's spent 12 years of her life pregnant.
8. Exhibits infinity+1 and infinity+2 for why I won't reproduce: +1: doing so would make me more like these freaks and +2: I'd be dooming my offspring to contend with theirs--a fate to which I wouldn't condemn anyone, much less one of my own.
9. NondedumBa admires these folks, wherever he's lurking from.
10. This story well supports a line from Bill Hicks--God rest his soul--paraphrasing: child birth is about as much a miracle as a bowel movement is.

In other news, Fox cancelled "The Simple Life" thereby assuring that the cultural axis between absurdity and armageddon that this country teeters on is back to a relative state of equilibrium.

I think you're both missing the most important part of this story.  Arkansas elected a guy to office who's name is Jim Bob which means that any sign of intelligent life that may have been residing in that state is extinct and it's now time to nuke 'em.

All of the kids have names beginning with "J"...  :P

I also saw the show on Discovery/TLC (whatever it was) where they were expecting #15.  They spend like $1000 a week on groceries and drive a bus around....

That's nothing. Ibn Saud had like 200 kids.

I remember a few months back seeing previews for that tv show "The Nanny" and they were going to this family's house and they had like 20 some kids......all adopted!  These people had like 4 minivans and they had to hire people to drive them since the 2 of them couldn't drive 4 vans.  I didn't see the episode but I remember that part from the previews.  The only thing dumber than having 20 kids is adopting them.

QuoteWe both just love children and we consider each a blessing from the Lord.

You know, my dog thinks it's a miracle when he farts. His head snaps back to his ass and he gets that "what the farg just happened" look on his face.

Children aren't blessing's from God.  They're nature's punishment for being too stupid to pull out.

Whether this is true or not, this is the best post I've read in a long long time by Rome.

Also, I love this thread.

I never understood the "litter" mentality.  Selfish to an extreme.  It's not like they need extra hands to mind the farm, and it's not like there's a 50% mortality rate anymore.  And it's not like those kids will get the individual attention they need.  I don't get it.

TO can't feed his family on $7mil a year so in order for this family to live on easy street they'd have to win the lottery..........thrice.

All I'm saying is that if the guy can support his kids (which I do not know his entire story) why is this a big deal? But yet our society continues to support people who keep on pumping out babies off the working people of this country, and you hear nothing of these stories.

The US doesn't have an overpopulation problem. Seen Idaho lately? Arkansas isn't exactly looking like Hong Kong either. Plus, native births are below the population replacement rate and food production is growing faster than population.
