Title: Chad Lewis
Post by: PhillyPhreak54 on October 12, 2005, 07:56:37 PM
Schefter on NFL Network reports that Chad is finally healthy and ready to return from the lis franc injury.

He reports that two teams are interested in him...Philadelphia & Tennessee

GET CHAD!

I'm not exactly hopeful that Chad is a.) as good as he was before the injury and b.) that he's going to be much help to the Eagles, even if they do sign him.

I'd love to be proven wrong.

Spach hasn't impressed, I wasn't expecting a Pro Bowl TE but at least show me something. Even if it takes Chad a few weeks to get back into playing shape, he'll be worth it in the long run. We have the cap space so I hope this deal gets done.  :yay

whats the beef with spach?  he hasnt played bad.  whats really expected of him?  hes a blocking TE right now.

spach as te/fb is a better option that parry at fb.

23,957,059. The Chad/Spach/Perry certainly sounds like it would be two steps in the positive direction.

Just three months ago he didn't want to be anywhere else. He also said that six teams (unnamed) had called him.

July 12, 2005, from PE.com

"If I didn't give the Eagles the first crack, then there is something wrong with me," said Lewis, laughing. "I love the Eagles. I'd like to say there is no coach I'd like to play for than Andy Reid, there is no quarterback I'd like to have on my side than Donovan McNabb. I love the team. I love the chemistry. I love the work ethic, the passion, the camaraderie.

"There is an esprit de corps in Philadelphia that almost guarantees success. Now, whether they actually want to bring me back, or whether they have room -- there are a whole bunch of scenarios that could happen. That's when you have to make other things happen."

This team could really use Chad Lewis right about now.  I don't care if they cut Parry, Reno, or another fringe garbage player.  Chad is a leader and, let's face it, a much better 2nd TE than Spach right now.

All's I want him for is:

1. Blocking
2. short routes on 3rd down
3. help McNabbs confidence when he needs to dump it off

I don't care if his old 5.3 speed is now 5.8 speed. He can go back to the "stop drop and roll" that we all love.

I just want Waste Of Space Parry outta here. Let Spach play FB/H-Back. Not like he could do wrse than Parry. That's impossible.

I wouldn't say he was ineffective.  He had over 1200 total yards in either 12 or 13 games (I remember he missed a couple games with a shoulder injury).  Regardless, he still averaged nearly 100 yards per game and that was while sharing the backfield with Buck.

And I don't think anyone here would even expect Lewis to come in and be a consistantly productive player, but someone who can come in on 3rd and short or goal line situations.  Basically, I think he would be the new Jeff Thomason.  I mean, he would basically be replacing Spach on the TE depth chart right?  Well how much do you see Spach getting the ball thrown his way?  So if they use Chad sparingly then I think he can make a big difference in a limited role.

i don't think Parry is going anywhere.  I heard R Diddy on WIP a couple weeks ago talking about why the Eagles kept Parry over Ritchie.  Ritchie's age, injury, and salary were all factors that led to them keeping Parry.  However, he also said that the Eagles really like Parry because he is young and also they feel he's picked up the fullback position fairly well for playing linebacker his whole career.  He also said that they think he can improve.  So, I don't think he's going anywhere.

could have heard me say all this before ritchie was even cut when i predicted his demise for many of these very reasons...add in the fact that reid loves to pat himself on the back by having as many UFA on the team and it was pretty clear parry was gonna be the guy...this in fact reminds me that i never received a well deserved point for this
Title: Re: Chad Lewis
Post by: PhillyPhreak54 on October 14, 2005, 09:28:09 AM
Another thing that I think as contributed to Ritchie not getting a job is the fact that FBs are scarce in the NFL nowadays and teams that actually use them already have their guys. Teams like the Eagles, who use the position as window dressing, can rotate zesty players in and out.

They need a FB worth a shtein. Parry ain't one of 'em.

I'm driving to the NovaCare to talk to Big Red about Larry's Lewis/Spach plan.

pg was right....excerpts from a search i performed...

whoa, slow down there Icy.   A half point for nothing?  I thought this was MURP vs. ICE?  I havnt argued this Parry/Ritchie thing yet!

but just to make it interesting Ill take Ritchie and you can take Parry.   If Ritchie makes the team its  5.5 to 0.   If Parry Makes it, it will be 4.5 to 1.    holla.

i had to get on the board somehow...it was getting embarrassing

and my actual prediction....

IGY,

You think Reid carries both Parry and Ritchie? Or do you think Ritchie is not in the picture at all?

i think the better question is does ritchie make the team...cause parry is a lock...and the answer is with two other FB's on the roster under 28 with ritchie at 31 coming off a serious injury is no

in addition parry is a reid golden boy imo...reid loves the fact that parry is an UFA ex LB that reid can take credit for turning into a fullback...hopefully it will work out and parry will justify being a starting nfl fullback with his on the field play...but reids god complex scares me and i can see him trying to fit the square peg in the little circle just to say i told so...at this point though you gotta trust he knows what hes doing and that parry will end up being ok

farging wonderful. So instead of having a decent FB (Ritchie) we have a no-name white boy with dreads who isn't really a FB playing 'h-back'.

I'm not sure why we don't just have 15 WRs on the roster.

i hate to say it but id rather have Parry with a year under his belt at fullback than a rookie who hasn't played a snap of fullback in the pro's.  what other FB free agents are available?

Ritchie.
Title: Re: Chad Lewis
Post by: PhillyPhreak54 on October 17, 2005, 01:54:39 PM
Right.

Because the Eagles use the FB so much that it would make a difference who is back there.

Spach has obviously learned the position. And how would this be any different than having Parry there last year?

As of right now we have a no-name, no-talent white boy back there who couldn't block to save his life and who falls down when in the flat all by himself after he catches the ball. Sometimes those pesky hash marks even cause him to fumble when he trips over them.

Ritchie.

If he's healthy, I'd drive him from Mechanicsburg to the NovaCare complex.

Why worry about the FB position?  We run from the I-formation, what, 5-6 plays a game?  I think Reid may subcousciously phasing out the FB position so he can go to his nifty 3-WR sets all the time.  >:D

I'd be cool with Gordon back there. But cut Parry. Keep Spach.

Do we have any hint whatsoever that the Eagles are even considering anything like this?

Sorry for the reality check.

speaking of Sports Final, is John Clark not the biggest cheerleader of all the local sports guys?  i despise him.

him and Steve Bucchi, what a pretentious asshat that guy is.  he holds a football the whole time during their local Eagles kickoff show, what a fool.

farging wonderful. So instead of having a decent FB (Ritchie) we have a no-name white boy with dreads who isn't really a FB playing 'h-back'.

I'm not sure why we don't just have 15 WRs on the roster.

The Rams tried that last year and look at the great special teams units they fielded...

They couldn't have possibly been worse than the shtein we've had to suffer through for five games.

Sorry for the reality check.

I think there's enough reality on this team to be angered about without having to be mad about stuff people make up now.
