Title: Jaws- Eagles D has "hero" syndrome

"Jim Johnson has a couple of weeks to patch up the defense after a couple of tough performances. What comes to mind is the adjustments the defense made after last year's loss to Pittsburgh. Johnson gave more playing time to defensive tackles Hollis Thomas and Sam Rayburn, inserted Jeremiah Trotter at middle linebacker and the defense took on a new shape.

"I'm not sure if personnel moves are in the picture, but Johnson has some work to do. The defense needs to get back on track as the Eagles get ready for San Diego.

"One of the concerns I have is that it appears the front four and the linebackers - that front seven as a group - are out of rhythm with each other. The tremendous rally in Kansas City masked some of the problems that existed in that game. The defensive line and linebackers, the 'fit' was not there on a consistent basis in that game.

Trent Green and Larry Johnson made huge mistakes and allowed the Eagles to get back in that game and covered up the problems the defense had.

"There are times when players try to make too many plays - I call it the 'hero syndrome' - and go outside the structure of the defense. I think that is what is happening with the Eagles on defense right now. You can't worry about somebody else's job. You have to take care of what you are doing.

"I saw some guys freelancing in that Kansas City game when I watched that tape. When you begin to freelance, you create voids that good running teams take advantage of.

"I think things will get back to normal for the Eagles defense. The surprising thing to me on Sunday was the way the Dallas defense completely took the Eagles offense out of its sync. I didn't see that one coming. Neither, apparently, did the Eagles."

So is this a case of everyone trying to make up for the crappiness of Simeoneu?

that's why next year the Eagles need to draft Abdul Hodge (Iowa) or some other linebacker who has both skill and the ability to start within his first 4 years.

amen

the outside lb's are a disgrace...the front seven in general does not have enough playmaking ability

which is why the easiest money i ever made was in betting that the skins d would be better than the eagles this year

"Hero Syndrome": Jaws indicted the Chiefs' defense of the same thing last week.

Simoneau may not be able to tackle, but at least he's in the right place when he misses a tackle.

Bullet may be sent back to ST duty.

seriously

its cause hes softer than a babys ass...its a shame that a man like trotter has to play next to dhani...the guy was unable to learn the giants vanilla system for god sakes...how is he supposed to master jj's...the giants lb's sucked and they couldnt get get rid of dhani fast enough...tells you all you needed to know about him...

the birds need to change their philosophy and get some guys with mean streaks at the lb position...youd think they would learn after nate wayne but they havent...i hate watching the steelers...everytime you look up they have some animalistic maniac taking off a qb or rb's head...if its not kendrell bell its joey porter..not joey porter then jason gildon...bell and gildon are aging lets bring in james farrior...porter gets hurt its larry foote...ooops another injury...paging clark haggans...

meanwhile the birds got nate wayne dhani jones and kieth adams

Next year I think we see Jones moving back to WIL with Labinjo taking over the SAM position.

To hell with linebackers, lets go with a 5-0-6 defense next year.

i like keith adams but hes out of element starting in the nfl...hes a great special teamer nothing more...what settled it was last week was when he blew trotter for an entire article in the inky...i mean he sounded like a high school player who was invited down to the linc to watch pre game warmups or some shtein

ooooh jeremiah is sooooo special...jeremiah is my hero...jeremiah i luuuuuv you...hes like the big brother i never had...i want your seed in me jeremiah...blah blah blah(http://www.accboards.com/UBB/vomit-smiley-007.gif)

buck up...get off your knees...and try and make yourself 1/10th as good as he is

one of the first things my dad ever taught me when i was growing up was to whatever i did "NEVER be on another mans cack"...and ive always remembered that...

you would never hear ray lewis oogle over another man like that...giving respect is one thing but you should always consider yourself to be the best...and if you arent then try to get there...basically adams is saying hell never be half the player or man that trotter is...why even play then dook

i like the guy but he doesnt have a warrior mentality...i cant recall any eagle lb under reid having that...other than trotter of course...in fact very few reid players in general have had that...but thats another thread

Didn't Peterson sign an extension? I think he did. Or was he just franchised or was that last year?

Should've drafted Derrick Johnson like I said in April!
