Title: Blitz Package opens door: Welcome Back to the Pack
Post by: Cowboys06 on October 10, 2005, 12:31:24 PM
....I openly admit I LOVE the Blitz packages that the Eagles throw at teams. I believe that hands down it's the most creative blitzing I have seen. However, when it doesn't work, it exposes players that fundamentally aren't as good as advertised. I believe if you can play someone straight up MOST times, you will be a better defense come January when you can't afford to take as many chances for long stretchs of the game.

Dallas beat the Eagles not because Dallas is THAT much better and not even because the Eagles have health concerns. Dallas focused on attacking while minimizing the Blitz packages that in the past have just overwhelmed them. When you attack and attack deep early and often, you can't continuing leaving players in the secondary without help.

Philly needs to get more creative with their front four, more zone blitzes if they ever want to win a superbowl. The Ravens, Cowboys, 49ers, taterskins, Giants all were considered good defenses. The last defense, in my opinion, that was just too much was the 85 Bears that introduced the all out attacking and letting the devil be damned...remember who beat them? Miami that got off quick passes and forced the Bears to TRY to play a conventional defense, which it wasn't equipped to do.

Dallas took a page out of that book and beat the Eagles. The issue which both Dallas and Philly need to examine is how to use those principles in a regular setting.

I think Philly will still dominate for a year or so longer, but you can only expose yourself for so long before the crowd catches up with you.

Philly...welcome back to the pack...blitz away... ;)

Advice from a Cowpukes fan?  ??? Now this is funny. First off, we played a poor game, Dallas played an outstanding game, even if the blitz had been effective we still lose this game.

Second, where you all last week? Showing up after you've won will get you no respect around here. You might as well crawl back to your cave.

Holy crap a cogent well thought post by a Cowboy fan. I would lay money that you are not from Texas. You are definitely an out of town Cowboy fan. Anyway your hypothesis rings of some truth, however, I would like to point out it's major flaw: Philly zone bltzes alot. And our DE's do a nice job in coverage. We rarely sell out. It's more disguising and hiding looks. We depend on a good push from the front four most of the time. This week they were running in quicksand. I have no explanation of this. But I will tell you that the vast majority of games are won and lost by the O and D lines. That is where Dallas really excelled yesterday.

Come on now, be nice. You didn't play that poorly, you got outschemed for the first time by Dallas in almost 8 years. I didn't show up last week because unlike Philly fans such as yourself (an assumption being made on my part) I play one game and only stress one game at a time. Come next Sunday I will be focused on the Giants. Unlike many Cowboy fans I still cheer for the Eagles when they represent the NFC in the Superbowls...I didn't like them losing to the Raiders and I am sick of the Pats...

Lastly if you had gotten to Bledsoe...you would have seen him called BledSLOW and trust me..you would have won the game...Parcells would have reined in the troops and tried to play run, run and a cloud of dust...

Well I am from Texas and Oklahoma and then moved out to Baltimore.

I agree with you the trenches were won by Dallas, but trust me...not by much....Dallas can't run when the other team is pretty certain they are running...JMO

You seem rational so I'll bite. Getting pressure on the QB is huge, but this blowout was a team effort. Mike Lewis hit the nail on the head saying the D 'overhyped' themselves. When you do that, you damn well better go out and prove it.

Blitzing is always a gamble and once or twice every year our defense gets mauled by a team that is able to capitalize on what is usually a tight scheme. The Colts did it a few years back, the Steelers did it last year, the Chiefs did it last week and the Cowboys did it this week. Every year adjustments are made and the team rebounds well. Here's hoping that trend continues.

The defense lost this game first and foremost. The offense just added to the stink and was probably exhausted from bailing out the D the past few weeks.

Don't forget the special teams play.

Giving the 'boys that kind of field position time and time again left the defense with little to work on.

Oh yeah...  Lito sucks.

I don't see how anyone can say that this loss is pinned on one part of the team or another. The offense sucked ass. The play-calling sucked ass. The defense sucked ass. The Special teams sucked ass. Everything was zesty. Everything.

You know, your boy was caught out of position or slow reacting to plays a few times yesterday as well.  :P

Ass chief ass sucker you should stop giving instructions. They seemed to be especially adept at ass sucking yesterday.

Yeah, but some of that is expected with my guy.  Lito's suckiness is a new development.

I think Lito just got beat and the over all scheme by the defense let him down. We all know damn well he'll win more than he loses. What Dallas showed you is what the taterskins showed us. You can't leave a person out to dry..you have to attack in more phases of the game so that force the other team to alter their overall game plan.

Lito's tendency to get toasted every now and then is nothing new.  Yesterday he just happened to be more consistent about it than usual.

Took the words right out of my mouth. Lito hits big and has a knack for the big plays and is definitely a top-level corner, but he gives up his share of big plays and TDs.

Dawkins didn't before his Lis Franc injury. ;)  Okay, once Dawkins got his shtein together in the NFL he didn't give up the big plays anyway.

When an opposing fan joins the board after the game to gloat, I have a special filter on my computer than makes their post appear to me as, "I have nothing to contribute."  It's easier this way.

Don't hate...participate (by winning a Superbowl). I will give you this, Philly is much better at dealing with idiots within (see McNabb and Owens fighting...vs. Pharmacy 101 (drug pushers Inc (Irvin, Sherman Williams, Nate Newton) than the Cowboys. I know you will get better, but you better get a good running back in the fold that's young and can contribute...along with a good backup QB...I still think the Eagles take the division...but hey if I am wrong...I'll be around to gloat either way..

You've fallen off your game, man. I thought Sunday was going to be the start of something glorious, the slow slide into dementia for all CFers to witness. But alas, you're back to the old run-of-the-mill "you're gay" shtein. Weak.
