Title: Could it be conspirational?
Post by: stillupfront on October 09, 2005, 11:56:08 AM
Today my 11 year old son asked me why the hated Giants seem to start fairly well every year and eventuall suck ass by the end of the season. After some thoughtful consideration, I said that the NFL gives them an easy early season schedule to generate a nice media buzz and optimism in the world's number one media market. I think there is a chance that I am not totally insane in my estimation here. Discuss among yourselves.

The Giants start out very well in the beginning of the season  because their starting 11 (on both sides of the ball) is better than people want to give them credit for.

The problem being (and it looks like they've addressed the situation this season) is the Giants never had the depth to back up the starters once that guy on the grassy knoll starts putting pins into that injury voodoo doll and players start going down. A team with very little depth at any position isn't going to easily replace a Strahan, Shockey, or a Hamilton (eg).

Injuries are indeed part of life in the NFL, however as other Giants fans can attest the last two seasons were absoulutely ridiculous.  Second and Third string guys were going down and it wasn't unusual for guys to be getting signed to mid-week contracts and then being plugged into the starting line up on Sunday.

Now, if you want to talk about conspiricies let's investigate why time after time the Giants get royally farged by every officiating crew since the organization backed scab officials when the refs when on strike all those years ago.

Just one loss before it turns into a suicide watch.

The big question to my mind is how many losses will it take before we start to hear talk of problems between Danny-boy and Saint Joseph? :D
