QuoteKeyonta Marshall said he's been promoted to the first-team goal-line defense, which is a pretty good trick considering he's not on the 53-man roster.
Marshall, the Eagles' seventh-round draft pick, has been on the practice squad since Sept. 5, two days after he was released. But with Darwin Walker likely to miss a third straight game because of a thigh contusion, there's a strong chance Marshall will be signed to the active roster in time to play against the Cowboys on Sunday.
With Paul Grasmanis out for the year with another Achilles injury, the Eagles have only three healthy defensive tackles - starters Mike Patterson and Hollis Thomas and backup Sam Rayburn.
Defensive coordinator Jim Johnson said yesterday the Eagles will not go into Sunday's game with just three tackles.
QuoteRookie third-round pick Ryan Moats, who has yet to be active for a game, is being worked into the kickoff return picture, the first sign that the Eagles feel he may be ready to make his NFL debut.
Rod Hood is averaging 19.2 yards on kick returns, which ranks 27th out of 33 players with five or more returns.
Special teams coach John Harbaugh said yesterday that because Hood plays so much on defense, and on cover teams, there's a chance the coaches will try to find a way to reduce his workload. But he wouldn't comment specifically on any possible changes in the return game.
Moats averaged 23.0 yards on five kick returns during the preseason. He also caught four passes for 33 yards and ran 25 times for 120 yards and a 4.8 average.
Moats has been inactive for all four games, largely because he was still learning the offense. But offensive coordinator Brad Childress said Moats is getting to the point where he's comfortable enough to play.
"I think there is a menu of things he does very well and I think there are things that he is coming along at," Childress said. "Really, it's an evolution with those guys. It's moving along, and he is doing all right. That opportunity will knock at some time and he needs to be ready when it does."
Sounds like McCants will be cut again, which I do not agree with. Seattle and St. Louis and other teams are light at WR and they could lose him this time.
Just cut Thornburg al-freakin-ready. So what if he gets claimed by a scrub team? And if he's not then you put him on the PS.
Good news about Moats. I'm betting that he'll be active after th BYE when we play SD.
How McCants hasn't supplanted Wibur on the depth chart yet is beyond me.
He must be as dumb as a wagon load of shtein.
:P
He was at #4 before they cut him the first time.
He's got potential. Wilbur has looked good on STs though. Maybe he can turn into another Dameane Douglas / Sean Morey type dude.
I just want to keep McCants. Thornburg (actually Mahe, but he's got immunity from the turk for whatever reason) should go.
i cant imagine anyone going near thornburg...theres no reason he should be on this team right now

A farging men
Plus Considine was activated for his first (?) game vs the Chiefs. Daunte Hall shed a Considine tackle (or arm tackle) and took it to the house. Our ST's are still a little bit disorganized with all the new players, and I think our KO units have been ok. I think once all these guys gel in ST's...look out. Moats could actually better his KOR avg. now that the guys in front of him have 4 games experience ahead of him. Granted Considine has only 1 game under his belt, but cut Thorny.
Only a matter of time before Considine starts blocking kicks.
Him and Short.
Short came close it seemed about twice vs KC vs FG/PAT's. Usually (it seems to me) Reid always (...or Harbaugh) has the ST units cover the fake first, block the kick second. When they were down Sunday and Reid/Harbaugh let the dogs loose to try and block them, they came close about twice.
all 4 active DT's start in the goaline formation anyway. heh.
Thornburg picked up by the 49ers.
We're farged now!
