The feud between a former and present Dallas Cowboys receiver has intensified after ESPN analyst Michael Irvin reiterated his belief that the team's current wideouts are a "bunch of No. 2 receivers."
Keyshawn Johnson, who leads the Cowboys with three touchdown receptions, fired back by saying Irvin, the Cowboys' all-time leading receiver and a recent inductee into the club's Ring of Honor, is starved for attention.
"This is a guy who played good for the team and obviously he doesn't want anybody else coming in and shining for the team or doing well because he has to continue to stay in the limelight," Johnson told Sirius NFL Radio on Thursday night.
Irvin first called Johnson, Terry Glenn and Patrick Crayton "No. 2 receivers" two weeks ago on ESPN's "Sunday NFL Countdown."
Irvin repeated that claim this week in an interview with the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
"I said it: They are a bunch of No. 2 receivers," the newspaper quoted Irvin as saying in Thursday's editions.
The Cowboys are 2-1 entering Sunday's road game against the Oakland Raiders (0-3) partly because Johnson and Glenn have combined for 26 catches and 1,186 yards.
Glenn leads the team with 14 receptions for 336 yards. Johnson's TD total includes game-winners against the San Diego Chargers and the San Francisco 49ers.
Johnson, in his 10th NFL season, has impressive career numbers that include 685 receptions, 8,892 yards and 57 touchdowns.
Irvin, who played 12 seasons for the Cowboys, retired after the 1999 season with 750 catches for 11,904 yards and 87 TDs.
"He had a Hall of Fame quarterback, a Hall of Fame running back, several Hall of Fame linemen, a Hall of Fame defensive back and a Hall of Fame safety," Johnson said, referring to the Cowboys' three Super Bowl teams of the 1990s. "You were in the right place at the right time. Enjoy it. That's all I'm going to say. Just enjoy it.
"I just know what type of player I am. I know that when my career is over, wherever he's ranked, he'll be under me. That's what I know."
Johnson said he has no use for most of the NFL players turned analysts.
"They are so removed from the game, it's ridiculous," Johnson said. "That's the one thing I respect about (former New York Giants quarterback) Phil Simms. He watches film. He gets in there and pays attention to what's going on. He asks questions.
"Michael Irvin probably couldn't tell you half of the Dallas Cowboys names just because he doesn't know. He doesn't study. He doesn't see it."
Hey Keyshawn...you're a #2 WR, douche.
#1 receivers are gamebreakers and score TDs. He's nothing more than an above average possession receiver.
At least he's not a cokehead.
Irvins's still a dipshtein but:
1. He's 100% right
2. MeShawn couldn't hold his jock. Irvin pushed off a lot, but he was a difference maker on the field.

agreed. MeShawn needs to stfu.
Three players have more TDs than Keyshaun so far this season. Steve Smith, Keenan McCardell, and Hines Ward.
I disagree. Keyshawn's the greatest receiver ever.
Just ask him.
So, Irvin says Keyshawn is a #2 receiver and Keyshawn says Irvin is an over-the-hill loudmouth who still wants the limelight. I don't understand the controversy, both of them are right.
Gotta love this Cowboys fighting. I definately agree with Irvin on this, which since he has become an analyst has been happening quite a bit. :-X
Irvin is a cocky punk though. Compared to him, everyone is a number two WR except like Jerry Rice, Torry Holt and TO.

Let's put Bobby Taylor back on Irvin and see if he still feels that way.

yep. any sort of cowboy controversy is good news to me.
Better Dallas WR controversy than Philly WR controversy, eh? LOL
Keyshawn is a douche. This isn't the first time, and won't be the last time, he gets his panties in a twist because someone comes out and says he not as great as he thinks he is.
You'd think he's never seen a minute of game film.

No matter how much of a douche TO can be...he makes up for it on the field.
MeShawn could never and never will be able to.
He can't even be the best WR in his own friggin' family. Poor guy. Poor, poor, millionare.
:-D :-D
Irvin just ripped Key on ESPN...
He said "everyone knows the Cowboys have no deep threats at WR so expect Oakland to blitz a lot"
And then he said "Just remember , Key. The people of Dallas don't care how many receptions you have they just care about the bling" and held up his ring.
Irvin also said about Moss in the pregame: "Anyone looking at the field and wondering what a #1 receiver looks like..."

Umm... I never said Owens was a douche. I happen to
like Owens, and his antics, even the ones that piss people off, never fail to crack me up. I'm also one of the three people in the world who was/is on his side in the contract controversy even while making jokes about it.
You're preaching to the choir here. No need to point out his field greatness to me. Unlike some people, you'll never hear me dis a player because of the color jersey he wears.
Phreak- Irvin, like him or hate him, is one funny sumbitch, no doubt. You know this back-and-forth is going to go on all season. And I'll be entertained the whole time. LOL
Hail Irvin. :-D
blue likes Owens. yay.
Oh yeah...it'll make for a good soap opera fo sho'.
I despised that bitch Irvin in his playing days...but I like him now as a commentator. Aikman & Moose are very good too.
