Well, there's your answer to "who get's bumped to make room for France?"
That's a bit of a surprise. A team that rountinely plays with 3 WR's on the field is going to only carry 4 on the roster?
Billy > McCants

This is a strange move. I thought McCants would contribute a lot more as the season progressed.
he'll be back
Just think... one little injury, and we'll be looking at a healthy dose of Billy McMullen! :evil
In AR we trust!
Yikes.
I'd like to let all of you haters know - there is no room left on the Jeremy Thornburg bandwagon. ;D

Don't go trying to suck up now. Team Thornburg has left you behind.
Then why haven't they cut Mahe yet? That guy's STILL stealing a paycheck.

FRANCE IN; McCANTS OUT
September 30, 2005
As expected, the Eagles signed kicker Todd France to the 53-man roster on Friday, paving the way for France to handle the kicking chores Sunday at Arrowhead Stadium against the Chiefs. To make room for France, the team released veteran receiver Darnerien McCants.
With David Akers sidelined with a right hamstring tear, France will be expected to step in and perform.
"I still have to make the kicks," France said of his newfound responsibility. "I'm not trying any harder or focusing any more than I was last week. It's a pretty simple job we have to do, put the ball in between the uprights."
The 6-foot-3, 200-pound France earned a spot on the All-NFL Europe team this past spring while playing for the Hamburg Sea Devils. He connected on 24 of 34 field goal attempts and all 15 extra point attempts as he led the league in scoring.
The longest field goal he hit in NFL Europe was from 54 yards. In the 2005 NFL preseason with Tampa Bay, he hit all four of his field goal attempts, the longest from 49 yards, as well as all three of his extra point attempts.
Originally signed by Minnesota as a rookie free agent in 2002, the 25-year-old France has spent time in training camps with the Vikings (2002 and 2003), Giants (2004) and Buccaneers (2005).
A native of Holland, Ohio, France finished his career at Toledo as the all-time leading scorer among kickers in Mid-American Conference history with 320 points.
France is from Holland? who woulda thunk?

i tell jokes for me and nobody else. when i'm on this board, it's all business.
Mahe and Thornburg have jobs but McCants gets cut. I'm starting to wonder about what goes on Reid's head.
"Cheeseburger cheeseburger cheeseburger cheeseburger cheeseburger cheeseburger cheeseburger cheeseburger cheeseburger cheeseburger cheeseburger cheeseburger cheeseburger cheeseburger cheeseburger cheeseburger cheeseburger cheeseburger cheeseburger cheeseburger random Brigham Young football player cheeseburger cheeseburger cheeseburger cheeseburger cheeseburger cheeseburger cheeseburger cheeseburger cheeseburger I can keep whoever I want on this team as long as I drafted them myself cheeseburger cheeseburger cheeseburger cheeseburger cheeseburger cheeseburger cheeseburger cheeseburger cheeseburger cheeseburger cheeseburger cheeseburger cheeseburger cheeseburger cheeseburger cheeseburger cheeseburger cheeseburger cheeseburger James Thrash cheeseburger cheeseburger cheeseburger cheeseburger cheeseburger cheeseburger cheeseburger cheeseburger cheeseburger cheeseburger cheeseburger bowel movement."
Jesus. Reid must be awfully impressed with Thornburg. Are there teams out there that desperate for a rookie free agent safety?
It could just be that McCants sucks and will never fit in on this team.
I wonder what happened to his package of plays.

just another case of a brother being held down by the man
McCants indifference to special teams play probably did him in.

Mahe and Thornburg in the same sentence?
You just made the list, buddy
they don't call him Wilbur McRealDeal for nothing.
What makes this a little unexpected was McCants had jumped ahead of McMullen on the depth chart just last week.
This is the surprise cut I predicted Reid would make in order to get the special teams back on track.
does McMullen even play special teams?
Can't say I've seen him out there.

This is why I singled out Wilbur - I'm really surprised Andy cut from the middle of the depth chart.

I think he retrieves the tee or something like that.

don't hate on Billy, he's got potential.
Yeah, you can't teach 6'4".
You could teach the farger how to catch, though

I will say in the guy's defense that every time I've seen them practicing onside kicks at Lehigh he does a great job of snagging them...if we ever go onside in a game he'll be the one Akers/France is trying to kick to.
How in the hell does he catch a squib kick better than a thrown pass?

why do you park in a driveway and drive on a parkway?
Who are we gonna cut when Mcdougle comes back?
I'm kinda pissed about Mccants going. Mcmullen and Mahe are just too difficult to get rid of.
How in the hell does he catch a squib kick better than a thrown pass?
he was a big australian rules guy
Mildly surprising, I guess.
Both McCants and McMullen were playing on STs and I heard someone (Ray Didinger, I think) say that he was actually doing a good job on the coverage units.
But the reason the Birds waited until late Friday to do this is so no team could scoop up their cut player. So they'll likely bring McCants back. That's my guess.
Reno Mahe continues to evade the cut. I do not understand it at all.

QuoteMy opinion: Don't take this as a permanent move. I don't see the Eagles going with 4 WRs the rest of the year .. stay tuned, in other words. Considine is healthy. I think he's got a shot to play on Sunday on special teams...We'll see how the active roster shakes out.
Interesting on Considine, I thought he was still a few weeks away.

Haha, if he was cut by the taterskins he must suck! Wait a minute, didn't we cut Trotter and Steven Davis?
The Eagles cut Jimmy Smith. That was a long time ago, though.
Regarding Spadaro saying it's not permanent, I think they must plan on bringing in a different 5th WR. My best guesses would be Andre Davis, or Gasperson or Redd.
I believe Thornburg wasn't released because of Rodney Harrison's injury. The Pats need a backup safety who can tackle and play special teams.

Or they may just bring back McCants.
I think it is going to be McCants again.
Think about it...Reid was just praising the guy last week saying how he wants to get him some more snaps and more involved.
Remember them cutting AJ Feeley in 2002 when they had a similar injury situation? They let him go and brought him right back.
Plus McCants is a vested veteran so his 2005 salary is guaranteed even though he was cut. They're on the hook for his salary because he was on the opening day roster.
Yet amazingly Reno Mahe still has a job.
:-D

That still pisses me off! Kotite was obviously blind Smith had the best preseason of any Eagle that year.

I was wondering about that. Since we're paying him anyway... that more than anything else says we'll bring him back.
I think we should all just give up the Reno Mahe getting cut dream. ha.

We should refer to him as Elliot Ness cuz his ass is untouchable.
Reid will cut the mighty Mormon power ranger when he's good and ready. I have hope because he cut both Peterson and Thrash.
Hey dingis, he totally TRADED Thrash. I'm totally rolling my eyes at your lack of Eagles knowledge. Butthole.
Nah, man. The taterskins thought it was such a ballsy move that they gave Reid a draft pick for cutting him. Like a present.
Team McCants says D-mac will be back.
After watching our special teams yesterday I'd rather have Andre Davis, or ABSOLUTELY ANYONE who can catch and return. I like McCants, but this team has other, more pressing, needs.
Always nice to have an inside source. (http://www.darnerienmccants.com/commerce/mywords/mywords.asp) ;D

sounds good to me
Bring back DMac II!
It's Monday, where's he at? The FO lied to him!!1
My best guess is that they expected to know by today whether or not Akers will miss the season.
Regardless, they could put Gras on IR and sign Darnerien, if they really wanted to stay true to their word. Then they could sign Keyonta if they have to put Akers on IR.
I bet they sign Perez.
