Does anyone here use these things? (God, I hope not.) I take these surveys sometimes and get free amazon gift certificates (:yay free money) and took one today about online dating sites. These things are the biggest scams I've ever seen!
You go to the sites and they have these small pictures and they don't give you any information about the people except these 5 word blurbs (usually something like "come jump my bones") and you can't even read the profiles until you "register" on the site for some insane amounts of money. :-D
They want people to pay money to get a profile for some random person on the internet who could be a total loon (or a man posing as a woman) and people sign up for these things? I'm in the wrong line of work.
I think that's how Sassy and hbionic originally hooked up. Seems to work for them.
Don't get me wrong. I'm all for meeting people online and forging relationships that way... that's entirely NOT what I'm talking about (I met my gf online about 10 years ago in fact). What I'm referring to are the sites that you have to pay for upfront before you can find out anything about a person.
There was a question toward the end of the survey asking why I wouldn't pay to sign up for the site (it was FriendFinder I was checking out if anyone's curious - sorry if anyone here uses the site but it sucks, IMO) and I told them that the site wants you to lay out about $40.00 a month (on the cheap scale) before you can even look at a profile or search a profile, or do just about anything on this match making site that would be of any interest to anyone looking to find a match. I checked out eHarmony a little bit, and that site is TOTALLY different from the other ones I saw. Instead of this cookie cutter list of generic interests you have to basically answer some 200+ questions (could be more, I stopped after a while so I could finish the survey) that really dig deep beyond the, "are you a man","are you looking for a __","tell us about yourself ___ but keep it brief" garbage of these other "dating" sites.

Meeting your SO online is way cool. ;D ;D ;D
But if I were looking to do it NOW, it would be from a site like eHarmony or something like that.
never used a dating site.
met my wife though email. but i dont count that as "online" because we worked at the same company at the time.

Yeah my GF and I lived in the same city. Just randomly happened upon each other online one day but we were friends (6 years) long before we started dating (4 years now) so I'm not sure if that actually counts, but the fact that we "met" online is still a fact.

I have to say, I thought those eHarmony commercials were full of shtein, but after doing a bit of their intro questioning today I can totally see how that site can work for folks. Those are some probing questions and they make you want to think about yourself more as you answer them rather than just picking out some options that you think might "look good" to someone at the opposite monitor.
That eHarmony guy comes off as a little creepy to me. I think he might use the 29 dimensions of compatibility to find suitable 8 year old boys.
I met a lot of women through wedding planning sites and a LOT of them met their husbands from eHarmony.

there are so many jokes in this one sentence. :crazy
My neighbor friend insists on using match.com. She's met some decent enough people...but she just can't find somebody she's really compatible with. Actually, I'm not sure that's even possible...
Hey, Match.com was on one of the survey questions. I never heard of it before today and didn't go there. There was like 30 some odd dating sites in this one portion, I'd only heard of maybe 5-7 of them in total.
you're gonna have a rough time finding women who like ninjas, collectible card games, and Alf in real life. Sometimes the internet's a fantastic resource.

Just go to an otaku convention. Lots of hot geeky chicks who like to dress up.
Or GenCon. Hey Lad, how was GenCon this year?
i have no idea what you're talking about.
I didn't go this year.
