You know we'll be hearing this all week:
QuoteLinebacker criticizes T.O.
DEREK SMITH CALLS EX-TEAMMATE SELFISH, BAD APPLE FOR EAGLES
By Dennis Georgatos
Mercury News
Linebacker Derek Smith on Monday ripped former teammate Terrell Owens as a selfish player who promoted himself at the expense of the team and said the 49ers "were absolutely better off without him.''
Shedding any attempt at diplomacy, Smith said he'd love to get a shot at Owens on Sunday when the 49ers play at Philadelphia.
He also declared that Owens wouldn't fit in the team-oriented atmosphere instilled by new 49ers coach Mike Nolan and predicted that his continued presence in Philadelphia eventually will ruin the Eagles.
"You put a bad apple in with a bunch of good apples, it's just a matter of time before the other apples spoil. That's my opinion,'' Smith said.
Smith said he came to despise Owens during his final season with the 49ers in 2003. Owens had a nagging groin injury for most of the season and barely practiced during the week so he would be available to play on game day.
But Smith suggested that Owens skipped practice more because he felt like it than because of health issues.
"I don't like the fact that someone is in there playing dominoes with their friends while we were out there practicing,'' Smith said. "I didn't like the fact that they were in there sleeping on the rehab table while we were out there practicing. And then they just come out on Fridays because they think they're that good and they can come out and play. I didn't agree with any of that. I don't care who you are. No one is above the team.
"I don't think he'd fit in with this scheme. I don't think he would fit in with this staff, personally. He'd do his own thing. I don't think he buys into anything but his own thing. I think we're better off without him. We're absolutely better off without him.''
Despite his harsh criticism, Smith said he has no intention of letting his preparations for Sunday's game get personal, though he'll be looking for Owens if the wide receiver comes across the middle.
"I'll prepare the same way that I do for any game, but I'd love to get a shot at him and I'm sure every defensive player would love to get a shot on him,'' Smith said. "I mean, he's a premier player. You get a shot on a premier player, it looks good.''
Running back Kevan Barlow, who has remained friendly with Owens and visited with him during the off-season, said he expects to see a highly charged Owens in his first meeting against his former team.
"I know he's going to have some pep in his step this week,'' Barlow said. "He's probably going to want to show us up.''
nice, I needed something to get away from the Atlanta game and focus on the 49ers. Mutilate the San Frans!!
Ok now everyteam we play this year is gonna have something to say about TO and DMAC. Anyone wanna bet me.
In other news, the Eagles are 13.5 point favorites (http://www.footballlocks.com/nfl_lines.shtml).
TO is selfish? Thank god we have a Niners linebacker to fill us in. I had no idea.
I already hate Derrek Smith because he was the LB who picked off Donovan during that 2001 game where they stopped the Eagles 7 times in a row from the 1 (even though Thrash broke the plane).
I hope TO has 4 dances ready for them. Their CBs suck.
They said last night that Mora told Hall not to trash talk TO because it will motivate him. The Niners apparently didn't follow the same plan or Smith just felt like doing it anyway. Regardless, TO was already going to have a huge day, but you just made him even more angry. Not a smart idea.
But he's right isn't he? I love TO because he's supremely talented, but the guy is a ****ing jerk, right?
Yes, but it's impolite to point out the obvious.

G-O-D.........D-A-M-N!
I'm all over the Eagles on that one.
.....The 49ers actually won a game this weekend, xD
I think this tard shooting his mouth off is great. After last night, the Eagles can past this article up on the "Motivation Board" in the locker room. T.O is an ass of the first order, but he feeds off criticism like no other player I've seen. He'll own the Niners. :yay
Don't you need to be IN the locker room to see the motavation on the board...better yet , dont you need to be able to READ! Have fun with the TO cancer, just remember the first girl he kissed was his sister!! LOL GO 9ERS!!
Calling the 49ers short bus... you dropped one!
Oh good, someone for IGY to have mountains of buttsex with.
Posts: 24019...somebody need a friend? (maybe a San Fran friend ;))... so u like buttsex, sweet! so does TO.
Really , u all know the timebomb is ticking.... just like a good terrorist he will detonate with the most infidels around!! JIHAD!!
PS-u better win it all this year, NO WESTBROOK OR TO next yr.

who uses the term 'bathhouse" but a queer with 25,000 posts on a Philly message board?
Ohnoes! You pointed out that I have more posts than what is actually shown! My thin facade has been tossed aside!

This game on sunday might be the toughest game of the year. The Niners are a great team and are first in their division. I can't see that changing anytime soon. Stud QB, stud RB, great receivers, and a high-powered defense. They have it all.
What have you done lately? Ummmmm...not make the playoffs for how many years now?

You old dog, you.
(Dang, I couldn't find a pick of Sgt. Hulka)
9ers will win because you are taking them too light.
-WE HAVE NEW COACHING STAFF!!-They will break your predictable offence down on tape,(good luck Westbrook screen pass, meet Julian Peterson)
...you have only 1 game to look at our new schemes.
-New 9er defence running off the power of Mike Singletary and Thomas Herrion.
-Mcnabb is hurt and TO is too emotional to NOT freak out on his old team.
-but mainly we will win because you are looking past this game, just like all the other teams will be this year.

YES, THAT IS THE SOLE REASON, DENNIS ERICSON THE DRUNK BUM.

Mike Martz coaches the Rams. A group od old ladies could beat them.
QuoteIt didn't take long for Terrell Owens to get wind of his ex-teammate's comments to the press. Yesterday, 49ers linebacker Derek Smith told local news "He was just kind of in it for himself. I don't like the fact that someone's in there playing dominoes with their friends while we're out there practicing ... and then they just come out Friday because they think they're that good and they can come out and play. I didn't agree with any of that. I don't care who you are. No one's above the team."
Today at a press conference, Owens fired back at his ex-teammate.
"You know, when I was in San Francisco, I don't think he said two words to me. For someone who knows so much about what I went through with my groin, he's a pretty soft player himself."
"If he calls what he did 'practice,' you have to wonder where he gets off taking shots at me. I mean, since I just slept on the rehab table and showed up and still torched him in practice, maybe he should just shut up."
"I never had a problem with him when I was there, but if he wants to come at me, he can take his best shot. I ain't scared. Am I supposed to be afraid of a guy who just dives at people's legs and waits for players to come to him? With the way he's talking, you'd think he's Ray Lewis."
Owens didn't stop there. He also somehow got onto the subject Jerry Rice's comments from a month ago.
"He's probably still upset about my book (Owens wrote some revealing details about Rice in his book, "Catch This"). But I didn't even scratch the surface of what he was really like behind the curtains. Ya'll can ask anyone who ever played with him. He had his own contract dispute in 1997 and I never told him to shut up and play. Every receiver on that team idolized him, and he just did everything in his power to shun us. There's a reason nobody in the league wanted him as a mentor this year."
When asked about the fans in San Francisco, Owens was more cordial.
"For the fans that actually supported me throughout my time there, I really feel bad that it didn't work out. But I'm not sorry that I made the decision I made. That franchise has clearly lost interest in winning Super Bowls."
Owens also complimented Tim Rattay on his performance last week.
"Like I said all along, he's a good quarterback. Had we had him as the starter in 2001 and 2002, I think we would've won the whole thing. He's a great passer and a great competitor. I think he might be like Drew Brees was last year, but if he's going to win as many games, he'll need Derek Smith to start facing up on his tackles."
Nice.
:-D

I think he was just trying to make the point (as he did in his book) that Garcia sucks. ;)
I think that whole blurb is made-up, by the way... unless someone can actually find a link.
It's still funny, though... because it's true.
I had to laugh this piece of a transcript in one of the ESPN Insider chats:
Quote
"The Niners are much better under new head coach Mike Nolan and a very impressive staff of assistants including Mike singletary, Billy Davis, Bishop Harris and Jerry sullivan among others. I see them tripling their win total this season, which means they probably have a few more upsets up their sleeves."
Oh, please, God...don't let Philly be one of those 6 big wins this year! :-D
It's going to be great when Alex Smith has to come in for Rattay after he gets plowed by Kearse and can't get up. The Eagles will get to introduce another rookie, a la Eli, to the NFL. I can't wait!

Love the Freak, but still waiting for him to have consistent pressure and results. Without re-watching Monday night to look closer he seemed ineffective.
kearse got held back against vick...you have to play contain and stay conservative...that said im still waiting for kearse to pin his ears back and get one of his patented blind side sack force fumbles...i thought jj got a little too cute with him at times last year
posted this yesterday
i cant complain with the overall results of what johnson did with kearse last year as the D was great....but sometimes id like jj to turn him lose more than he does...imo he messes with him too much by moving him around...even putting him at a linebacker/dt position sometimes...i wanna see at 3-4 forced qb fumbles by freak this year

ingenius first post. that statement just slaps all the arguements about TODAYS teams to nothing. i mean really i didn't know steve young was back on the team. sad thing is your team would be better if he was. stop living in the glory days, live evolves, you should evolve with it. so should your team.

Hasn't it been 12 years since your last trip to the big game? I love fans who live in the past. The time is 11:25am EST on September 14, 2005 and right now your team really really sucks.
So does ours.
we are undefeated and you guys are winless
you had your chance 4 years in a row and couldnt make good on it.
its all downhill from here.

Wow, haven't heard that one before. FYI--The Eagles are 2-5 under Reid on opening day. If you're reallly judging our team on 1 performance than you're gonna be in for a shock. Games gonna be over by halftime...watch. Don't worry, I'll be here to rub it in your face :)
Anyone else remember how funny (looking back, of course...it was retarded at the time) the opposing team fans were coming on here when the Eagles started 0-2 in 2003?
T-townBuc was one of the best to show up on here. Funny, he's been MIA since.

Going fishing? I'll bite, even though I should know better. The Eagles played the worst offensive game I've seen in year's against one of the consensus challengers for the NFC crown, turned the ball over repeatedly, had more penalties than any non-taterskins offense I've ever watched, didn't even attempt to run the ball and still only lost by 4 points. We don't suck, we played a bad game. A really really bad game. String a couple of those kinds of games together and I'll agree with you.

i dont get it...arent discussion boards for discussions...when you trot out 5 for 5 that ends everything...we have no retort...but i would think for right now right here you might want to talk this weeks match-up...and if you dont you accomplished your goal of stating the obvious...now you may move along
btw even if the eagles won last year it would still be 5>1...thus theres no need for you to talk trash to any other teams fans except dallas and pittsburgh...the only two teams who can pass and catch you in superbowls THIS year...therefore move along to those boards please
wow 1 appearance in 40 years of Superbowls

2003.
For a few games in 2003 this team did suck. Badly. They got it together once Reid figured out that running the ball actually helps win games. But for several games in 2003 we were pretty stinking awful. I won't judge this team by one game, but once it becomes habit...

In 2003, the Eagles rebounded to end up hosting the NFC Championship and losing ugly to the farging Panthers.

as for now of course the atl game meant little to nothing...as will the sf game after the birds merk them...its the ensuing games against other quality opponents that has me worried...whats going to happen at kc and dallas if they show up as they did against atlanta...showing zesty at kc and or dallas is what im worried about

Now that this young man mentions it, think about this... The 49ers are undefeated and beat a former Super Bowl champion in the Rams, while the Eagles are winless and lost to a team that has never won an NFL Championship, let alone a Super Bowl.
Man, the Eagles really suck. The oddsmakers must like losing money to make us 13.5 point favorites.

But seriously I agree with rjs, the fact that we, as a team, played so badly and still only lost by 4 points to the probable 2nd best NFC team, really shows how good we can be.
Walking out of that stadium after game was one of the most uncomfotable walks of my life though.

Did you actually have to go fact checking for that?

Oh, so it's pretty much the same team that you'll be sending out to Philly Sunday, right? Only 21 different starters.

Did you miss the part where he played with 2 surgical screws holding his ankle together yet still caught 9 passes for 122 yards? I know a lot of that gets lost with all the offseason BS that happened, but it was still a pretty heroic thing to do.

90% of Rookie QBs dont do shtein in there first year(let alone in only 2 preseason games)
T.O.'s presence had a big difference in getting the Eagles home field advantage. Considering how important you think it is that the Eagles lost to the Falcons Monday night, don't you think it would have been quite likely that the NFC Championship outcome might have been in question had the game been played in Atlanta?

McNabb was NEVER SLATED AS THE STARTER in his first season.
McNabb was not named the starter and then later relegated to backup duty. Since he was named the starter, it's been his team ever since. On the other hand, Alex Smith sucks donkey penis and will never be a Pro Bowl QB.

Hurt?
No.
Again, for the 3rd time...how's that salary cap treating you so far?
Did you even know (since you've proven to be a complete idiot) that they Niners haven't done shtein but suck ass since the Salary Cap has been introduced?
and spending all that money on the locker room cancer got you were??
First of all, speak English.
Secondly, ANSWER THE QUESTION CLAIRE!
First, sorry about the misinformed 9er over here...Salery Cap has been HELL to us, our former gm was a douch bag (Garcia made over 10mil one year because of incentives)..., and we are gonna be paying for it for a few more yrs... but who are you guys saving your cap room for?? TO?? Westbrook??? ...good luck. YOU NEED TO WIN THIS YEAR!
btw , i know Philly can easily destroy us if they are hitting on all cylinders, BUT they clearly are not, so we have a chance, stop TO to 10-15 ypc with a cover 2 , then let our LB's blitz and tee-off on Westbrook... obviously we will need some other help (turnover, big special teams play) BUT we have a chance, and in poker..er football thats all you need.

Trolling on the internet, check. Listing your email address on the site you disrupt, check.
Getting lots of email from NAMBLA thereafter? Well, you asked for it.
I'll bet he already gets their weekly newsletter.

How/why did David Boston get brought into this? ???
After all the illegal ish the Falcons got away with Monday night, we needed to get some muscle on the case.

The Eagles had a bad game. Holy shtein, what is with this "not hitting on all cylinders" crap? Last year, they had a really bad game...it was against the Steelers. At that point, everyone in the league put the Steelers as the #1 ranked team over the Pats and Eagles because they went out and beat both of them back to back and all 3 had been undefeated at the time. That did a lot for them, didn't it? Eagles also started 2003 with TWO horrendous games. The ended up winning 11 of the next 12 games and got to the NFCCG. Those first 2 abysmal games meant nothing. And they were FAR worse than they were on Monday night. FAR WORSE.
Please don't sit here and talk about the Eagles not doing well with the cap. They are the best team in the NFL with the cap. What are they saving UP for? I'll bet you 10 bucks that by the middle of this season they have re-signed Westbrook, Rod Hood and Michael Lewis.
Please stop talking about the Niners like you play for them too.
Sheesh, do you people honestly believe that a team like the Eagles will just roll over and die after a loss in week one? I have never met such a bunch of misinformed fans in my life.

The three obvious answers for what is the money being saved for:
Michael Lewis
Brian Westbrook
David Akers
A couple other players may get extensions, too. See, no matter how close the Eagles under Lurie/Banner/Reid get, they aren't going to just blow their wad to try to win. The NFL doens't work that way. Tell me a team that bought a Super Bowl in teh salary cap era? It never really works out that way, does it? Instead, they just end up in cap hell, with all their money tied up in players who aren't on the field, or even the team.

You're trying to explain this to a niners fan, DIO.
A team that has been living in cap hell for how many years now?
Sieg Heil!

I already hate Derrek Smith because he was the LB who picked off Donovan during that 2001 game where they stopped the Eagles 7 times in a row from the 1 (even though Thrash broke the plane).
I hope TO has 4 dances ready for them. Their CBs suck.
They have cornerbacks? O_o
