Can Reid keep up his impressive primetime winning %?
Can the D-line put enough pressure on Vick & contain his scrambling ability?
Will The Falcons depleted WR corp be a factor?
Can the Eagles stop Dunn/Duckett?
Will Madden describe Vick as the "most exciting player ever" after he throws 10/23 204 yds but scrambles for 30?
Prediction: Eagles 31 Falcons 13
Screw the predictions.
The Falcons suck anyway.
Where's the Haiku thread?
:paranoid
I don't see where much has changed since the Eagles controlled the Falcons in a methodical win in the NFCC, besides the loss of Chad Lewis. I think the Eagles will be improved against the run this season, and I think Donovan and TO will have a big game on MNF, on which the Eagles traditionally play very well. From some of the articles this Summer, it seems like the Falcons are using this game as a measuring stick, and they're playing at home, so I think it'll be a little closer than the NFCC...but, they'll still come up short.
Hope the Eagles can get solid special teams play out of the gate this year, and not take a few weeks to gel. They have the players, they just need to have a short learning-curve.

My Prediction: Eagles 27 Falcons 17
Eagles defense stomps Vick's guts out and shuts down the running game. Falcons get a cheapie touchdown at the end either on a turnover or a ST miscue.
No matter.
Eagles: 31
Falcons: 17
BTW: I saw a Falcons license plate this morning that read: #1 Fan
So Daytona's where he's been all these years! Who knew? :-D
All questions answered YES.
Eagles will win 27-10
Vick is god. TO will throw a toddler-eque tempertantrum on the field when McNabb doesn't throw him the ball every down, which will lead to an all-out fight to death showdown between the two. McNabb wins with help from Wilma. But the Eagles lose the game 99-0 cause Vick is just that good.
63-6
kearse gets herpes :(
Game 1's gonna be all about DMAC and TO. My prediction: TO catches 3 TD passes and has over 100 yards receiving in front of his hometown (the motivating factor).
Eagles 27
Falcons 17 (Late TD)

A negative factor for the Falcs against the best secondary in the league.

"The more you ignore history, the more you are doomed to repeat it"
Jim Mora has a tough time trying to sell the "this is not a revenge game" mantra to the Falcons. Thus, they are doomed to repeat the same mistake the Eagles made against the Bucs in 2003.
Owens and McNabb want to show the league that the can play together and be productive.
The Falcons defense cannot handle the threat of Owens, Westy, Moats and Smith.
38-7. Eagles defense corrals Vick.
Eagles 24

Yeah. I said it. The Eagles record their first shutout since 1996. I have a feeling this defense will shut 'em down. They are in mid-season form.
Yeah, they couldn't handle the Birds without TO last year. Now imagine them with TO and fresh legs. Death!

I know its bold and somewhat homerish, but I really feel that strongly about this defense. They were flat out nasty in the PS and that was without them gameplanning for the offenses or running any of the expanded blitz packages.
I don't think they'll be #1 in scoring #1 vs. the pass and #1 vs. the run like the Bud Carson defense was because only 5 teams in history have accomplished that. But I feel that this will be the second best defense to ever play in Philadelphia.
They have responded to JJ's challenge of being more nasty and forcing more turnovers. A lot of people say that teams come off SB losses timid and down on themselves. This team hasn't shown those traits.

The only shot the Falcons have of keeping this game close is if their D-line can dictate to our O-line. I don't believe they will. We'll eat 'em up in the passing game... Vick can't throw against us to get them back in the game.

I've been wrong before, and I was wrong when I thought Vick was gonna' be a championship qb. He isn't half the qb I thought he'd be at this point in his career. The excuse could be made that he had no recievers, but that don't wash, especially when you look at what a real pro-bowl championship quarterback like McNabb has done with next to nothing for recievers until TO. Vick just doesn't seem to have what it takes to be a great NFL qb. He has the physical tools, great arm, great scrambling ability, but like a Eagle qb from the past with the same tools, ala Cunningham, he doesn't have the savy to get over the hump and do what it takes to win consistantly in the NFL.
Atlanta does nuthin' against the fine tuned demolition crew that is the Eagles defense. I'm going with PhillyPhreak54, and calling a shutout.

Another reason why ESPN blows:
Quote1. Philadelphia Eagles at Atlanta Falcons | Scouting report
Are we really ready for another Terrell Owens media blitz? This offseason, The Unhappy One has blasted just about everyone in the Eagles organization, including coach Andy Reid and quarterback Donovan McNabb. His mission was to disrupt the organization and hold it hostage in the media until it paid him more money. The Eagles' front office and Reid professionally reminded him he could lose more money for such detrimental conduct, so Owens returned to the team after getting sent home during training camp and has been quiet for the most part since his return. But this is the Monday night opener, and Owens is back to talking again. He says he might even want to start a dialogue with McNabb. How special. Owens tried to stay quiet, but give him the spotlight of a Monday night opener, and you knew he wouldn't be able to keep from talking. The fact that the game is in Atlanta, Owens' offseason home, just adds to that. During his brief absence from the Eagles, he returned to Atlanta and even took in a Falcons preseason game, trying to spark speculation that the Falcons might trade from him. PG note...speculation from who? YOU, you farging idiotWhich one of the interviews he grants this week will hit a nerve? Owens shoots from the hip and he doesn't hold back. But this is a big, big game, especially for the Eagles. PG note...yes, as we all know, week 1 really means SO much in the grand scheme of things...must we remind this idiot of 2003?This was a bumpy offseason for Philadelphia, beyond Owens' antics. There was the Jerome McDougle shooting; Todd Pinkston blew out a knee ::); Correll Buckhalter is out for the season; Brian Westbrook held out and wants a new deal; and Corey Simon had the franchise tag pulled and signed with the Colts.PG note: which, by the way, moron...you think will lead the Colts to the SB and the Eagles to miss the playoffs. Reid will try to keep the team focused on the game. Owens will be focused on the game, the cameras and the microphones. Surely, some controversy will follow.Bet you can't wait to spin it every which way you can, eh?
For the Falcons, it's just a matter of continuing the evolution of Michael Vick. LMFAO...that's ALL? There isn't anything else the Falcons need to work on? lol The Falcons have gathered enough tall receivers for him to get the passing offense going. The question is whether he can become a 20-touchdown passer. He has Michael Jenkins, Dez White and rookie Roddy White. He still has tight end Alge Crumpler. Still, you wonder if it will take another year for Vick to really click in this offense.
You fargign toolbag, lightbulbhead. Get your facts straight FOR ONCE already!

i don't know, the magic Georgia Dome has me scared. it's going to make the running Falcons a better team, but not the passing Eagles, they won't reap any benefits whatsoever from no wind, and 72 degrees.
im torn on this game...i see an easy eagle win or a close falcon victory
the birds run defense in this game scares me...i can see the falcons busting out for 150-200 rush yards and winning 21-17...or the eagles stopping dunn-duckett-vick...not being affected by the dome crowd...and rolling 31-13
other than at kc this is the toughest game of the season and without analyzing anything i can see it as a loss for no other reason than that
this game becomes even more important after kc's performance yesterday...at kc is a loss now and they dont want to start 2-2 as dallas will be 4-0
i honestly cant make a pick

But him vs. Colema does worry me a little bit. If he struggles, Castillo needs to adjust his scheme to give Shawn a little help.
The only other problem area I see is Allen Rossum. If Dirk punts to him and they let him return it and he gets a big return or a score off of it...Harbaugh better not kick it to him another time all night long.

they dont...they are 'americas team'...so their bandwagoneers are everywhere
i cant imagine the eagles matching that tonite...san diego yesterday was closer to the eagles at miami two years ago...its was embarrassing for the chargers
falcs have good linebackers. lots of speed back there. spach, parry, and fraley need to get on those guys to allow westbrook and co to have a chance to cut it outside.
Cowboys bandwagoners are back out in full force. Just look no further than all of the Aikman jersey's they showed yesterday.
I lived in Texas during their run in the 90's. By 1997 there was none of them around excepot for the diehards and you rarely saw them even then. And after they lost to the Cards and Plunger in 1998 they were gone for good.
They've unpacked the jersey's from the mothballs this year.

I know it's pathetic, how many fake sports fans are in this country. There is no excuse to be a Cowboys fans outside of Texas, unless you moved away from there.

Hartwell & Brooking are good. But if I'm Reid & Childress I pick on Demorrio Williams with LJ Smith about 10 times tonight.
Then, they'll put big-play Ike in.
hartwell is good but worthless against the offense the eagles run

He's their "secret weapon" you know...
I am going to be furious if the Eagles don't completely blow them out. There is no excuse not to. Sure I'll love the win, even if it's close, but I want to roll right over teams this year. I want the Eagles to set a statement tonight. I think they will.

I wasn't kidding, actually. Ike does tend to make big plays on defense. If he goes in there, I bet the Eagles might run as much as 35-40% of the time (that's a lot).

demorrio is fast but young and inexperienced. lj can wreck the safetys but demorrio can at least run with him. i would use lj alot tonight.
is ike playing wil or sam there? he makes plays but hes grossly undersized at sam.

I got you but what I mean is that the folks down here portray him as a LB every bit as talented as Hartwell. He actually may have an Edge on Hartwell because he's gonna tell Mora all about the Eagles' defensive playbook. :paranoid

Yup. Theres a kid a few doors down from me who claimed to live his first few years in Texas, so thats why he's a Cowboys fans. I called him a cockroach and a bandwagoner, but he once again claimed to be a diehard football fan that watches every Cowboy game. Well, throughout the afternoon he poked his head in and out of room a few times to see what was up, and maybe 3 times during the Cowboys game. He didn't even watch it, then when I told him that they won, he ran around celebrating like he gave a crap. I hate that fanbase so much.
I knew a few people who are Cowboys fans too. They all share a house. I called them up after LT scored that TD early on and my one friend picked up and he was sleeping. He forgot the game was on. Real fans, right?
3 hours until kickoff, because kickoff is actually closer to 9:08.
Then, another 4 minutes until the 1st play from scrimmage.
Sal Pal uses Trotter and Dawkins as the players supporting McNabb ONLY, yet not talking about how the 2 of them are also close with TO. Sal Pal is such a farging tool.
and now showing the sideline thing from the Steelers game last year. ::)
:-o
Can't these guys come up with something different?
no. its old. :boo
Hey hbionic...watch out...you might miss the game (http://www.cnn.com/2005/US/09/12/la.power.outage.ap/index.html)

Ike is the back-up SAM. But like here, I believe they'd use him at all 3 spots. I still miss Ike.
Demorrio is young & fast and that is exactly why I would look to exploit him. He's starting for the first time and his coverage skills are questionable. He can be used and abused if they look at LJ often, IMO.
Speaking of Ike...
Barkann said on DNL that they had requested Ike live and he said yes. But Jim Mora said absolutely not.
DGunn said that Mora seems to be tiring of Ike talking about Philly all the time.
Good job, Ike! Piss off Mora...make him cut you and you can come back here. :yay
I could make an Ike Reese "I've made a huge mistake" reference...but nobody would know what I was talking about.
Okay, I'll shut up now. Go Eagles.
Cecil Martin on Cataldi's TV show.
BRING BACK CECIL! PARRY SUX! ;D
Sal talking about TO and McNabb....still making this a soap opera.
I reiterate.
I hate Sal Pal.
phreak, i figured ike backed up all 3 spots. hes johnny on the spot. i agree with you about demorrio, hes going to be hesitant. MNF, 1st time starter against a team like the birds.
cecil is probably still better then parry.
And Sal Pal making the biggest point of the game...."Teammates support Donovan McNabb".
No dickface, they all hate him and don't support him.
farging tool
Falcons tell Sal Puke that they will blitz McNabb early and often.
:-o
Ohnoes!
Yeah because every other plan they have used has worked...
Anyone have a list of inactives? Cant believe Moats is one.

Really? Andy must love him sum Lamar Gordon.
Just checked PE.com and it's true. Shocker.
QuoteThe rest of the inactives included: Safeties Sean Considine and Jeremy Thornburg, offensive tackles Calvin Armstrong and Todd Herremans, linebacker Matt McCoy, defensive tackle Paul Grasmanis and Mike McMahon, who was listed as the team's third quarterback.
Who backs up Tra if he gets injured? I guess they just throw Hicks out there and put Clarke in at LG ???
Um....I guess Andy doesn't want to run the ball. Shock.
