I thought they did for sure, but I've read some mixed reports. Even saw that Lenny P said they would not get a comp pick in this situation. ??? Simon signing a big deal with the Colts is a good start to getting a high comp pick...
Why wouldn't they? They got one from Trotter didn't they?
I was under the impression that they don't. And I have absolutely no facts to back that up.
Because it was past the UFA signing period. I read that somewhere...I think someone here linked it in the Eagles release Simon thread.
Nope. The compensation period ended on July 22. They don't get anything for Jeff Blake, either. Damn...
damn. in that case, I hope Simon has the worst season in the history of DT's!!!
Jeff Blake. ha.
That's gay. And I don't mean that in the "it's ok to be gay" way. I mean it in the "that's gay" way.
They probably wouldnt get one for Blake anyway because they signed some lower level FA's in the offseason anyway. McMahon/Walen (if he counts still)
They should have pulled the tag off his ass last month then. Of course, I'm sure if they really didn't think he would show up, then they would have ala Trotter.
I think we are +2 in the compensation sweepstakes (Burgess, Mayberry, Reese vs. McMahon)
The good thing is they all signed rather large contracts too.
now they just have to play well. :paranoid
This just in: Burgess tore his ankle again... ;)
For serious?

QuoteZack (Ashburn): Will the Eagles receive a compensation pick for losing Corey Simon in Free Agency? Or because they franchised him, they lose the right to get a comp pick?
SportsNation Eric Edholm: Sorry, folks, I am having trouble here. Hopefully, you'll see this.
SportsNation Eric Edholm: Even though the Eagles removed the franchise tag from Corey Simon, they should receive compensation (either a third- or fourth-rounder) in the 2006 draft for losing him.
ESPN knows nothing.

Well, if anyone would know, it would be Rigs...

simon>grasmanis
Keyonta must really blow the big one if Gras made the team again. Yeesh.
its bad to keep grasmanis at all...to keep him over your best DT in a must win the superbowl year just absolutely inexcusable
If the Eagles had kept Simon, who would you have kept on the inactive list every week?
Walker
H. Thomas
Patterson
Rayburn

I'm sorry, what?? ???
Walker is their best DT followed by Hollis.
Walker is their best DT followed by Hollis
NOW they are
id have gone with a 5 DT rotation...and sat my last DE...let walker play some there if need be...their ends are painfully weak opposite kearse so having walker there would not have been a drop off...
so you put walker at DE for a few plays and sit juqua thomas and you have simon inside as your best DT
i want my best players on the field in a championship run...even more so when one of those players is the best on the team at his position
Simon's gone.
Get over it.
ill do my best
knowing you agree with me will certainly make it easier

BRING BACK DUCE, TV AND TAYLOR! OH, THE HORROR!
Every year is a must win superbowl year. Using that phrase as though they should do things differently THIS YEAR is farging retarded.
In other news, Darwin Walker sucks at DE in JJ's system.
It's like Brandon Whiting without the "mad" pass-rush skills.
Every year is a must win superbowl year
no it isnt...last year was a must win nfc championship year...this year is a must win superbowl year

never said otherwise but corey simon at starting DT is much more important than thomas juqua at back up DE

There's no one by that name on the team.
BTW, it still chaps my hide that the Eagles let Bobby Taylor go. No way the secondary could improve without him.
it is referred to as thomas juqua by 75% of the media 100% of the time
thus it will always be that to me
just as PSU is now forever UPS since the dwill presser
as for the simon move the fact that the best you guys can do is bring up cute bobby taylor references tells me how you truly feel about it...but i understand the gawd andy cannot not be touched round these parts

Not at all. If the Eagles suck, they will hear it from most Eagle fans. Thing is, in the past the Eagles have done a pretty good job of replacing popular departures (not that I think Simon was all that popular anyways). I think the DT position is deep and talented enough to go for a championship run without Corey Simon. You don't and that's fine. Nobody knew how the DBs were going to perform when Taylor and Vincent left, likewise the RBs when Duce left. They did okay, right? As this is the best Eagles team in my lifetime I think it is okay to cut Andy some slack at times, or at the very least, wait and see at least ONE DOWN OF FOOTBALL this season before declaring the Eagles suck. If you want negative opinions from me on the Eagles, they should never have drafted Freddie Mitchell or Jerome McDougle and David Culley should have been fired a long time ago. Happy?

Yeah, it really sucks that they let go of a guy that wasn't under contract.

C'mon, man. Simon fans are 100% sure he would have signed the tender at least 2-3 hours before the Atlanta game.
That would be IGY and ... ???

It doesn't matter. He has an innate knowledge of these sorts of things.
HOLLA
It goes well with his inert knowledge of the English language.

Get over it.
Not until I burn my Simon jersey.
Speaking of, my only jersey is Simon too. Do we know if Freak is going to change back? I really want to put duct tape over the name and replace it with Kearse.
I hope Kearse doesn't change numbers.
I have a replica jersey of his that I paid 25 dollars for last season and I'd hate to lose that money.

I had that same plan as well...let's cross our fingers together and sing something hippie-ish.

Simon looked very average last night. I didn't see him draw any double teams.
since hes two people he requires a quadruple team

One guy was able to control him with relative ease last night. Other linemen on the Colts (Tripplett comes to mind) were much more disruptive than was Corey.
the eagles should get two comp pics now.
as should the colts salary cap be charged with an extra 5 mil
DT's are fat.

DT's are fat.
Not DTs that are only above average on being fast off the line and good on pass rush. He's no run stuffer.
Quit defending this guy already. WTF?
DT's are fat
so is putting 400 lbs on a 290 frame
i was all for keeping corey but dook is monstrous
edit - locked- no need for two stupid Simon threads.
