The original Bengals vs Eagles thread (http://www.concretefield.com/forum/index.php?topic=16100.80) is five pages long and growing, so I thought I'd start a new thread for comments on the game as it's happening.
I can't see the game, so I'll be updating on NFL.com and reading whatever you brilliant people post.
Attention whore.
;)
Padding the post count baby, padding the post count.
This one isn't on ESPN or anything national, is it? :'(
God damnit, they just had the farging idiot jackass crew on TV being interviewed on CSN....the skinny dork with his big horseteeth.
Losers. I hope one of them dies when they throw each other into the tables and asphalt.
I hate those guys.

NFL Network will be going to each game, so you'll catch some of it. And I think the replay of the game is on NFL Network later.
Got on the NFL Network now. :yay
(Just as well to get just the important parts. Got lots of schoolwork to do. :P)

I'm in New York City (Bronx). I have the basic Cablevision package. Best I can tell, the only game available is on FOX. Steelers v. taterskins. I don't think even the Jersey A vs. Jersey B game is on.
Either that or I just don't understand how to work the goddamned cable box.
Sal Pal said Andrews is out tonight....
I assume its because of the bruised shoulder from this week that caused him to miss a practice.

aw, that sucks. I wanted to see him play with Tra and see the whole oline together.
THERE'S TO. lol
Apparently TO was hanging out with the fans and playing around with teammates and such before the game.
If you're watching coverage of this game, and you feel at all garrulous, please by all means indulge yourself.
What problem between McNabb and TO? 65+ yard TD pass.
That was awesome!!
TO beat double coverage and Donovan laid in a great pass to him. Beautiful...
HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAA!!!
farging awesome.
Well I reckon I'll be seeing that on ESPNews in about 15 seconds.
do you have NFL NEtwork?
Eagles hold Bungles to a 3 and out. Nice play by Trotter on 2nd down to stuff Rudi Johnson for a loss. :yay

play action....pass to TO...gain of 31. :-D
Thankfully the Eagles game starts 30 minutes prior to the other games. DirectTV has a show called 'No Huddle' which shows every game.
What a fantastic start with the TO TD. It was so predictable yet unstoppable. Our D looks fantastic. Faster and meaner than last season!
NFL Channel is saying that the TD could "break the ice" between McNabb and Owens.
TO's TD celebration was actually subdued: spike the ball, hand on hips and nodding. McNabb and Owens pointed at each other.
AHHHH, ALMOST another TD
Westy with a nice 7 yard gain.
Damn, FG.
Akers kicks it through 10-0
I can't believe this, I don't know whether to be excited or what. It sure is hard not to be.
This kind of performance should scare a lot of teams in the NFL.

No doubt!
The Bengals look like they are playing their 3rd string.
And think about the fact that Andrews isn't playing and AR is using his "vanilla" preseason junk.
Akers kicking touchbacks. Nice.
:'( Damn you, DirectTV.
Will have to watch the Skins/ Steelers.
Damn... McNabb's 2/4 95 yards and a TD in under 5 minutes.

Kalu with a NIIIIIICE sack
lol...Hollis Thomas just ran down Rudi Johnson. :-D Awesome.

Eagles defense holds the Bungles to another punt. Sims (??) with the tackle. (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v410/SamiB/swoon.gif)
Reno with the fair catch (had 3 guys on top of him)
Keep it up PG...i'm sitting at work with no access cept for NFL.com gamecenter.
Was it a real tackle or was he holding on for dear life again while the guy with the ball fell down?
Kalu was superfast getting to the Palmer on that sack, btw....I am extremely impressed with his play there.

Real tackle....and stopped them for the 4th down.
Westbrook carries and hit immediately...loss on the play. 2nd down and 11
LJ falls while McNabb throws to him....no catch.
3rd and 11.
NO protection for McNabb and good coverage downfield for the Bungles. Throws out of bounds.
3 and out eagles.
Landeta to punt.
Illegal block in the back on the bengals on the punt.
3rd drive's not looking too good.
TE, they scored on their first 2....are you actually worried? lol
Reid's vanilla offense scored on both of the first 2 possessions.
Palmer goes deep on first down, incomplete.
Rudi on 2nd down, gains 6...trotter with the tackle.
3rd and 4
ARGH, Lito ALMOST picked that after Chad Johnson bobbled it near the sidelines.
3 and out again for the Bungles.
PUNT with Mahe back for the return.
Bungles bungle the punt.
false start.
Ugh, NFL Network is showing the VaGiants right now. :boo
I'm doing PBP right now the best I can.
Ok, I'm enjoying the Gints right now because an offensive PI on Shockey and another penalty has them at 1st and 25. :-D
Reno like the Energizer bunny and eeks out some yards on the return. Not much, but he made something out of nothing.
Injured Bengal on the field.
Schobel draws a penalty, eh? We'll take that, thanks.

What's Adrienne wearing?
Pass to Westy for another first down.

McNabb pass a little high to TO, dropped while he's hit. TO should have had it.
3rd and 9.
Who's opposite Owens? Lewis, I'm guessing, with Brown in the slot?
And thanks for the PBP, PG. Skin's D looks decent so far.
Another semi-high pass to Brown...he should have caught it. Dropped.
Landeta to punt
EXCELLENT coverage downfield on the punt. Way to go ST.
Tra shaken up. Walking to the locker room.

Thrash sighting! Got a first. Skin's o is actually moving the ball on the Steelers D.
Incase anyone cares, 80 year old Curtis Martin is shredding the Giants defense. :D
Portis is running pretty well so far. 12 men penalty on the Skins.
Regarding Tra...they showed the replay and there was NOTHING. He was virtually untouched on the play. NOt sure at all what happened. Maybe dehydrated or cramping...but it didn't look like anything at all.
Ramsey with a bad throw... Skins are punting.
Lower back strain on Tra Thomas. He may or may not return....

Retarded...I'm watching NFL Network for hopes of some gametime...and they're showing a game I could watch on broadcast TV: Giants /Jets. what a drag.
Does the Mannean come in for Tra?
Freak gets tackled and from the ground, on his back, he stops Rudi for a loss. LOL.
He's unreal
Rudi Johnson slips through a tackle or 2 and Dawkins has to clean up the mess. Gain of 10.
3rd and 2

Got to see the TO score. Nice pitch and catch.
McNabb to Westy...didn't make the catch.

McNabb under pressure again and throws it away. Actually, I think he chucked it and Reggie Brown was supposed to be in the middle of the field to get it and he wasn't there. According to Jaws, he was not where he was supposed to be.
Akers back in for the FG and hits a 47 yarder.

Yeah, Brown should have stopped his route. It's not that Brown wasn't were he was supposed to be, he just didn't adjust to the coverage/blitz. But like Jaws said, they'll go over that during film review and Brown will be a little smarter for it.

Weird sequence of events in the Giants/Jets game. Jets have the ball on about the 3 yard line. Pennington is picked off by Strahan on the goal line and tackled on the 1. Hasslebeck and Mike Cloud collide in the backfield. Fumble, Jets recover. Touchdown. :-D
Palmer to Henry who dances around forgetting about the clock. Time runs out and he was alone at the sidelines and could have run out of bounds and they could have had another play. LOL>

Antonio Chapman (Packers) is down in the Pats/Pack game. Looks serious :(
Guy from Green Bay, Antonio Chatman, is being taken off on a stretcher.
Wow, scary, watching it now. Is he moving his hands at all?
Antonio (?) Chapman from the Packers is being taken off the field on a stretcher. Took a hit from Rodney Harrison and his head went into the ground Michael Irvin style. Clean hit, nothing dirty.

Could he throw worse?
Watching the NFL Network bounce from game to game made me realize just how much of a first class organization the Eagles are running right now. Not only is the product on the field and the stadium top notch, but even the television presentation. Some of the local affiliates broadcasting other games just seem like they're 2nd rate. Almost like they got their commentators and graphics from a second hand store or something.
I absolutely HATE ESPNews. In the bottom corner "Next: Bengals vs Eagles preseason with Sal Pal" so they get on the phone with Paelonatotnaonio. So they ask how did the fans react to TO, boos or cheers, did TO and McNabb interact before the game, did they interact after the TD, then Paeolonaotntionia says "After the play TO got a warm reception on the bench, EXCEPT for Donovan McNabb, which was really weird, he never was within 20 feet of the guy. Then the anchor says "Ok, lets talk about something OTHER then TO. How have the Bengals looked?"
Its 27-3 you moron, talk about the Eagles.

Well last season the excuse was he didn't have good receivers, now he has Mason/Clayton and Heap so they'll have to think of something else.
The best throw of Boller's career so far came from his knees. I guess we know where his comfort zone is. :paranoid
McNabb and TO lookes and pointed right at each other and nodded. TO in the endzone, McNabb by where he threw the pass....after the TD.
I could give a rats ass if its any more than that all year.

2-17-CIN 30(13:01) (Shotgun) C.Palmer FUMBLES (Aborted) at CIN 30, and recovers at CIN 30. C.Palmer to CIN 19 for -11 yards (D.Furio).

Drunk Koy hands off to Moats who BUSTS into Bengal territory for a big gain. :yay
Detmer to Spach for a short gain.
Moats!
Awesome. I wish he'd gotten some time with the first team today.
False start Eagles.
Detmer to Moats, screen play, he slips and COULD Have had more, but went down when he slipped. 3rd and 4
Moats runs for the first down, called back on a hold on Carlos Perez.
3rd and 13
Koy taking his sweet ass time.
Throw to Moats for a small gain.
Landeta time
So I'm guessing the entire first string is sitting? Who do they have in at reciever right now?
37 yard punt from Landeta, no return.
Nice.
Reggie Brown, McMullen and Perez were in there.
Starters are all sitting
Palmer stays in the game? LOL
25 yard completion to TJ Housmansomethingorother....
I guess Marvin Lewis wants him to gain confidence on the 2nd string.
Rudi Johnson picks up 6 more on the ground. Thornberg with the stop.
2nd and 4
Rudi Johnson runs for the first down.
Spuds rambling on to Greg Lewis.
Palmer goes deep.
Broken up.

2nd and 10 from the 5
Moats gets to the outside and runs extremely close to the first down.
3rd and 2
Is Reggie Brown still in?
Chris Perry has touched the ball nine times for 24 yards. 2.66 yards per touch. Not counting drops. I don't know if he's dropped any.
Pretty underwhelming. Especially so given how many of them have been against our second string D.
Moats runs right up the gut for the first down and thensome. Got 5 or so.

The Bengals are awful. I know it's preseason, but they couldn't score a TD against our frickin second team. Marvin Lewis isn't happy.
Everyone did great, McNabb was superb, and it's good to have TO and Tra back. Kalu and Kearse exploded this week and Trotter was tearing it up like his normal self. After the second half, there wer eonly 2 penalties. The only hitch was that these penalties came at a bad time, after the would-have-been interception and the Brian Westbrook touchdown. But then again, it's preseason, so it doesn't matter much.

As much of a pain as TO has been this year, if he goes this entire season without causing any problems they need to think a heck of a long time about giving him that roster bonus. He rapes DBs all game and is as close to being unstoppable as you can get. Yea, it was preseason, but that doesn't mean anything. That is twice in 2 years he caught a TD on the first play from scrimmage of the game. That isn't easy to do.

I'd just like to say that Sal Pal is a farging idiot.
Before the game, Joe Banner was interviewed by CSN and they asked why TO wasn't part of the carnival. Banner said that because when the lists were made of the autograph booths, it was when they didn't know if he was going to hold out or not, so they were cautious and kept him off the list. Had it been done this week, he'd be on it. They didn't want fans to pay for the tickets to get his autograph and then have him hold out and not be there.
So after tonight's game, Sal Pal just "reported" that TO tweaked his groin just a bit in the end of the first half, but that this might be a "reason" for TO not to particpate in the autograph signings at the carnival.

Mines better because I'm cool and drunk
I know all of the attention is on TO right now, and I'm glad I missed Sal Pal being his usual moronic self, but this defense just keeps getting better y'all.
I honestly do not think it is too far fetched to think that they could exceed that 2000 Baltimore defense.
I know it's early, but they are looking like gold.
A potent ass offense and a devastating defense = In Detroit holding a shiny trophy.
The young receivers give me all kinds of football wood. Even Wilbur. I just wish Lewis didn't look so damned retarded without his helmet on.
So I'm watching the 2am replay and they just started the 2nd half a few minutes ago and they now have the Bengals broadcast team instead of the Eagles. Anywho this Bengals sideline reporter is talking about a new Bengals t-shirt that says" Do Your Job" and says it's a hot selling item as they've sold about 300 of them. :-D I laugh but I was actually surprised there are 300 Bengals fans out there. NFL Channel is saying that the TD could "break the ice" between McNabb and Owens.
TO's TD celebration was actually subdued: spike the ball, hand on hips and nodding. McNabb and Owens pointed at each other.
I just watched the TD, had the delay on Tivo, and it's nice to know that they were at least pointing at one another, 'cause all I saw was TO getting congratulated by everyone except McNabb, and McNabb getting congratulated by everyone except TO. Goes to show you that they don't have to have Monday dinner together to be able to produce on the field.
From the post-game report...
Kalu: "You don't want to say it's 'easy' when you're talking about the other team, but it's nice to have everything clicking out there on D."
Kearse: "He's (Kalu) probably been our best D-lineman as far as getting pressure. I think you're going to see a lot of N.D. out there this year making plays."
Team Patterson approves of two starting ends giving each other some love.
Did anyone else see the touchdown from DMac to T.O.?
That was cool.
:D
:-D It was funny to see the disparate comments on the 5-81 touchdown celebration.
NFL Channel: Hopefully this can be a first step to repair the relationship between Owens and McNabb. It was good to see them acknowledge each other on the play.
ESPN: TO and McNabb didn't even look at each other after the touchdown. How can the Eagles survive the fractured relationship between its star QB and star WR?
As far as I am concerned, they can refuse to talk to each other all year if they keep hooking up like that. If the idiots in "sports journalism" don't talk incessantly about it, it's a non-issue anyway. ESPN becomes more like "Access Hollywood" every day.
the questions to donovon were absurd during his press conference.
"you are a competitive player, doens't kill you not to be able to celebrate with the player you just made a play with?"
it's getting ridiculous. they were communicating on the field, TO was communicating with AR, it will all be just fine.
rut roh....
QuoteEagles | Owens Aggravated Groin Injury
Fri, 26 Aug 2005 22:09:17 -0700
Philadelphia Eagles head coach Andy Reid, following the team's preseason game Friday, Aug. 26, said WR Terrell Owens (groin) re-tweaked his groin against the Cincinnati Bengals. Reid said he would have more information on Owens' status Saturday, Aug. 27. "He just kind of reaggravated it a little bit," Reid said.

Everyone in the media (and fans, mostly) said if he showed up and STFU then it would be cool. But now they're tired of him not talking to them and giving them great quotes so its time to nitpick.
I'd like to see Donovan ignore the dumbass questions. Just make a funny face or something when asked a retarded question.
did you hear sal pal bring up the play where TO got pulled down from behind (the play where he pushed off on the CB). sal asked if donovan asked the referee why that wasn't called a penalty. donovan said because TO is his teammate and all that crap. then sal asked him if TO said anything to him after that, donovan said, "yeah, thanks" and just shook his head and laughed
Nah, I missed that. I missed all of Sal Pal's "reporting", thankfully. That guy is a stone cold hack.
Dude...when I was at Lehigh he was nowhere to be seen on the sidelines. There was his camera guy and the boom microphone guy and no Sal Pal. But when I got home and turned on ESPN there was Sal talking like he was standing right there by TO the entire time when in fact it was just his camera guy.
From the AP story on ESPN.Com...
QuoteOwens hasn't endeared himself to fans by demanding a new contract just one season into the seven-year, $48.97 million deal he signed in March 2004. But the notoriously boorish Philly fans didn't get a chance to give Owens an earful. He heard plenty of cheers after his score.
WTF??

Now all of a sudden we're boorish? Whatever. :-D

i have to admit, i can be pretty boorish
Of all the generalizations made about Philly fans, "boorish" is probably one of the more accurate one.
And I'm okay with that. :evil

I already posted this when I went on my tangent about Sal Pal.
He's not playing next week, so who cares?
Quote from: Sun_Mo on August 27, 2005, 08:23:46 AM
the questions to donovon were absurd during his press conference.
"you are a competitive player, doens't kill you not to be able to celebrate with the player you just made a play with?"
it's getting ridiculous. they were communicating on the field, TO was communicating with AR, it will all be just fine.
Agreed. McNabb LAUGHING at Sal Pal when he asked about what TO said to him after McNabb argued with the ref about the non-call on the horsecollar tackle was classic though :-D :-D

"When's your contract up, Chad?"
I just wanted to mention that I really like what Juqua Thomas has shown. I really think he has a good shot at making the team. He is making some plays. I actually prefer him to Jamaal Green.
And Adrien Clarke played very well last night. Good for him.
Kiss Sciullo goodbye.

He's still hurting...we all care.
I didn't read through the play-by-play here (but I usually do during the game, so thanks to all who post it), but I was looking at the AP write-up:
Quote
PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- No high-five, no handshake, not even a nod of approval.
Donovan McNabb and Terrell Owens already weren't speaking to each other. No surprise they aren't exchanging congratulations, either.
True, or more noise created by the media?

Media noise. Go back and read the last few pages of this thread. TO and DMac WERE talking on the sidelines (as per McNabb's Press conference) and it was also mentioned that after the TD, they pointed right at each other on the field.

When I was watching the game replay this morning you could see Mcnabb point down the field. Was he pointing at TO? I dunno, you couldn't tell. But he was surrounded by the o-line so he wasn't pointing at them and I doubt he was pointing at LJ Smith or anything. It definately looked to me like it was one of those "Nice grab" kind of points.
No catches for carlos?
Must have been double teamed.
Well this is different (http://www.cbs.sportsline.com/nfl/story/8775849)
Yeah, the article is still mostly about TO/McNabb but there's some good stuff about the rest of the team too.
QuoteBut Owens may not be the problem we imagine -- at least so long as the Eagles win. And after witnessing their latest performance it's hard to believe they won't win the NFC East and return to the conference championship game a fifth straight year.
you can spin it how you choose and get as semantical as you want but the fact is the two are not talking

And whatever you say, McNabb said otherwise. ::)
Here's the part of that AP article that really scares me:
QuoteKnown for his flamboyant antics after scoring, Owens toned down his act. He spiked the ball, stood with his hands on his hips and nodded his head. Owens then ran to the sideline, stopping once to pound his chest and point toward the sky.
:o OMG, he's turning into James Thrash!
Not Thrash...he did the exact copy of McNabb's pounding of the chest with one hand and point to the sky. Like what McNabb does when he first walks out of the tunnel and such. :yay
Oh no, he's taunting McNabb! Doooooooom!
Bleh.
There's over 19 pages of comments, I'm not gonna read them. I bet I can tell what they're about anyway.
Point blank, we got our asses handed to us. I don't know what to say.
I wasn't happy with the way we played AT ALL, and I was embarassed.
I can see the rest of the nation calling us 'Bungles' with that first play from scrimmage.
Odell was about the only one who looked worth a damn out there.
The only comfort I can take from this game was that it's a pre-season one. Bengaldom isn't panicking right now.
However, We better turn this around in a hurry, or talks about playoffs will be out the window.
Deltha O'Neal hard-core sucks. You gotta hope that Keiwan Ratliff is promoted and that he plays better.

Yeah, after catching a TD on his first pass, he caught another deep one, and had someting like 80-90 yards in his first two receptions. For all the talk about him sitting out of training camp, it doesn't look like he needs it. He's straight up money on the field, and this team is better off with him on the field even with all the other horseshtein.
All this adversity has fired TO up. A complasent TO is not as good as a fired up TO, I'll bet he has a monster year this year.
The only question in my mind is does he want to win a Superbowl as much as he wants that big payday.
Football isn't really his thing, but from the way he got pissed at Mooch a few years ago for handing da Bears a game I'd say he likes winning.

Not the first string O no. Not unless Craig Krenzel, Casey Bramlet, Chris Henry and Kevin Walter as battling to start againt Palmer, Johnson and Houshman... By the time the Bengals scored the first TD the third string and down players were in.
Unless... are you counting the FG? :-D
Why the farg are people still talking/caring about the McNabb/TO talking or not talking rubbish?
They are not talking to each other.
They communicate in the huddle for plays and thats it.
They could break the ice if they so choose to, but as it goes now who cares? They are doing exactly what everyone wanted...SHUT UP AND PLAY FOOTBALL.
Like Kearse said..it will get better. If it doesn't then they'll drag both of them into the locker room and confront them.
So how about giving the talking/not talking shtein a rest? It doesn't matter. Seriously. Didn't that show you last night that they can hate each others guts but still communicate on the field?
If TO blows up, he blows up. If he doesn't talk, he doesn't talk. But he's a great ballplayer and he is handling his bidness...
I'm so tired of hearing about this little irrelevant bullshtein!!
They are going to talk about it until they are seen chatting it up on the sidelines.
And then they'll be arguing on the sidelines.

I guess I just blacked out at that point..... :-\
I'm correcting a previous post.
TO had 95 yds. for his first two catches, 131 on 5 recepts total.
And the third time that the ball was thrown to him he was a foot, literally, away from a second TD.
Money, nuthin' but money.
QuoteEagles Notes | Illegal tackle on Owens gets rise out of McNabb
The last time Terrell Owens played at Lincoln Financial Field before Friday night, he left it on one leg - the victim of a horse-collar tackle.
The tackle by Dallas Cowboys safety Roy Williams led to T.O.'s ankle problem that cost him four games. It also influenced the NFL to ban such tackles.
Owens was brought down from behind in a similar fashion by strong safety Kim Herring in the Eagles' preseason win over the Bengals on Friday night.
Perhaps the most interesting part of it was that the person who stuck up for Owens was quarterback Donovan McNabb, who has not had much conversation with Owens since their relationship soured this off-season.
McNabb approached the official and said something along the lines of "Hey, I thought that tackle was banned."
Maybe McNabb and Owens are like siblings. They can bicker all day, but when someone else messes with the other, watch out.
"Like I said, he's my teammate," McNabb said. "We're on that field; we're working. That's something that I thought would have been called, something that we eliminated in the off-season, and then he didn't call it. So [I was] just getting in the ref's ear a little bit."
A flag was thrown on that play, but they took it back. If it's in the rule book, you have to call that shtein.

Yeah, but they were gonna call TO for pass interference... and decided against it. You can hear the ref say, "There is no flag on the play for offen...." They just let the horse tackle go. Idiots. :boom
