QuoteTerrell Owens and Tra Thomas will start with the first-team offense and the unit will likely play into the second half of Friday's home preseason tilt with the Bengals. Head coach Andy Reid announced his personnel rotation following the team's morning walk-through on Thursday.
Quarterback Donovan McNabb will see a majority of the action, while Koy Detmer and Andy Hall will split duties for the remainder of the second half.
"The first unit will go for a half and possibly the beginning of the second half," Reid said. "We'll see how it goes after that."
The return of Owens and Thomas to the starting lineup is key considering this may be the last game action for the starters before the Sept. 12 opener in Atlanta.
QuoteOwens will start alongside Greg Lewis, with rookie Reggie Brown filling the No. 3 role.
As for the running back situation, Reid says he "feels comfortable with any of the four" with the first-team unit. However, he would not say whether rookie Ryan Moats would see action with that group.
QuoteAs for injured players, Reid said the following players will not play in Friday's game with Cincinnati: safety Sean Considine, quarterback Mike McMahon, defensive tackles Sam Rayburn and Jamaal Green, cornerback Linj Shell, running back Correll Buckhalter, defensive end Trent Cole, offensive lineman Jamaal Jackson, receiver Justin Jenkins and cornerback/returner Dexter Wynn.
McMahon has a slight PCL sprain, but he was not scheduled to play this week. Shell, meanwhile, suffered a stress fracture in his foot in Wednesday's practice.
Rayburn did practice this week, but Reid says his elbow is "not quite right yet
fricken Considine still isnt ready. :boo
Hey.....he's just resting up for the opener. Blocking punts and field goals expends a shtein load of energy.................and shoulder movement...... :paranoid
I wouldn't be surprised at all for them to put Considine on PUP to start the season and give Thornburg a chance on the active roster for 6 weeks.

Nonsense! There is a better chance of Patterson becoming our "hypothetcial" power back.
Wonder if they're stashing Shell.
No McMahon.

You can bet he'll be on IR for 2005.
McMahon has a slight PCL sprain ???
Whatever happened to Norman Lejune? did he catch on anywhere or is he working at the local 7-11?
actually, Norman is on the Titans and gave Peerless Price a concussion the other day.
considine stinks...hell never play in this league outside of special teams
trent cole is the one i wish would get back as i have high hopes for him and would like to see him play a little

I knew there was a reason i liked Norm. Good luck 7th rounder!
Considine will probably not see much action this year...he's fallen in the same predicament as Ware did last season.

lol.
1. As if anyone wants him to play outside special teams anytime soon. 2 pro bowl safeties entrenched.
2. Ike Reese didnt play much outside of special teams for most of his career, yet he was an important part of the team for many years.
3. Like you know jack about Considine anyway. I guess you have a hawkeye blanket in your crib? :deion
the 3.2 million dollar question...
who gets the into's tomorrow night, offense or defesne?
if it's offense, what's the T.O. reaction?

Where is the evidence for that? Oh, the fact that he was a top five safety in the draft must mean he is trash. He's a rookie, and if he plays special teams only for a year or two, look who he has around him to learn from, he'll be damn good at what he'll be asked to do. Get a clue.
Shut up. You don't sponsor him anymore, quitter.
I retracted that statement if you go look at the post. I was just pissed he was missing another game. I'm so ashamed... :-[
As if anyone wants him to play outside special teams anytime soon
he wont play outside of special teams EVER
im not brian boyce but yes i have seen him play a lot
as an nfl'er i dont like the guy...no need to get all excited...fyi not every eagle is going to make the pro bowl
this talk of him being brian dawkins replacement is comedy
I think Considine could develop into a John Lynch-like player (not as good as Lynch was in his prime, of course)... a hard-hitter and a ballhawk who you absolutely DO NOT want out on an island covering a WR or a quick RB.

He's no Mike Zordich that's for sure. :cfhead

At least Detmer will be playing. It's fun to watch him for comic relief, if nothing else.

yous are so cute when someone criticizes one of your favorite eagles...much less a possible great white hope
its funny how panties dont get all bunched up when someone says they think kenyonta marshall is the next jerry ball
why is it that its completely legimate to say an eagle rookie is going to be great...but the minute someone says the opposite you minions start throwing your crayola 64 pack around
oh wow...

Linj Shell stinks. I see a release-with injury settlement coming his way.
You refuse to give reasons why he'll never be any good, that's why.
because of seeing him in college quite a bit...plus numerous variables...he is incapable of covering anyone in the pros...has awful range...and hes not a great hitter...i dont see anything in him that would show me that hes anything mroe than a special teamer...tho i will say he could be a very good one
hes a super smart character guy...the kind of player that andy loves and the kind of guy every team needs a few of...but hes not nfl starter material
i mean what are the reasons anyone would form an opinion about any draft pick
whats funny is no one ever wants to know why someone loves an eagle prospect...its enough to just say a player is going to be a good one...but the minute someone rips a draft pick everyone starts getting panicky and hurling insults and asking to see your scouts america credentials...notice not a single person mentioned me saying that i think trent cole could be real good one
Allow me to retort.
Considine can be a downright big-time hitter. I don't know what games you were watching, but you must have missed some good ones. Also, he's super-smart and takes excellent angles.
Let's face it... the odds are against any 4th round pick becoming a very good starter, especially if that player is injured for most of their rookie training camp. So, it's not like you're going out on a huge limb, here. But Considine DOES have the tools to be a good player.

agreed
but youd never know any of this since the guy has already been annointed dawks successor
No one is Dawk's replacement. The chances of his eventual replacement being half the player he is are laughable. Brian Dawkins is a future hall-of-famer and one of the greatest Philadelphia Eagles of all time.
That said, there will need to be a SUCCESSOR for Dawkins at some point. Considine could be it. I would put the odds at about 2:1 against, but it's possible, depending on what the Eagles get in the next 2 drafts.
2-1 considine is even on the team when dawk leaves
5-1 hes a good back-up
50-1 hes ever a starter

QuoteOVERVIEW
A former walk-on, Considine soon became a mainstay in the Iowa secondary. The team captain also excelled in the classroom, earning Academic All-Big Ten Conference honors three times and academic all-district accolades once.
Considine was a standout running back and linebacker at Byron (Ill.) High School. He was named to the Illinois Coaches Association all-state team as a junior and senior and chosen first-team all-state as a senior by the Chicago Sun-Times and special mention by the Chicago Tribune. He holds the school records for career rushing yards (4,010), touchdowns in a season (34) and touchdowns in a career (65). Considine rushed for 1,580 yards as a senior and had 400 yards receiving while scoring 34 touchdowns. He gained 1,340 yards as a junior with 18 scores and had 13 touchdowns as a sophomore while rushing for 1,090 yards.
After spending the 2000 season as a redshirt at Iowa, Considine was a key reserve in 2001, posting 17 tackles (11 solos) with a fumble recovery. He added 26 tackles (17 solos) and blocked two kicks during his sophomore campaign. Considine then took over the free safety position in 2003, recording a career-high 66 tackles (43 solos) with three interceptions, five deflected passes, two fumble recoveries and a pair of blocked kicks.
A left foot injury would sideline him for two games in 2004, but Considine still managed 48 tackles (32 solos) with seven pass breakups, a fumble recovery, three interceptions and a blocked kick. For his career, Considine registered 157 tackles (103 solos) with three stops for losses of 7 yards, five blocked kicks (four led to Iowa touchdowns) and 13 pass breakups. He gained 106 yards on six interceptions and 25 yards with two touchdowns on four fumble returns.
ANALYSIS
Positives: Has an athletic build with developing upper body muscle tone, firm midsection and hips and only 9.7-percent body fat ... Sensational kick blocker who times his leaps and has a knack for finding the ball ... Intelligent athlete who will rarely bust an assignment ... Studies film and has no problems retaining plays ... Has good straight-line speed and is better when playing in the box than in the deep zone ... Shows a strong closing burst, getting a decent break on the ball ... Has natural hands to catch and secure the ball ... Active in run support, taking good angles in pursuit and will hit with authority ... Will sacrifice his body to make the play.
Negatives: Does not have the timed speed or flexibility to handle man coverage, as receivers too often get him turned around and dictate the route progression ... Spends more time chasing than covering in one-on-one situations ... Can move in reverse, but shuffles his feet, causing him to look choppy trying to turn in transition ... Struggles to find the ball with his back turned and can be beaten over the top ... Looks hesitant in his initial charge and does not have the speed or range to handle two-deep coverage ... Will pursue plays on the perimeter in run support, but when the action is inside, he looks passive and late to arrive, failing to use his arms well to disengage from blockers ... Hard tackler, but ducks his head, causing runners to slip off some of his hits ... Does not run as fast as his timed speed indicates.
INJURY REPORT
2004 -- Sat out the Ohio State and Michigan State games after suffering a left foot sprain vs. Michigan ... Underwent hernia surgery (right abdominal) in January.
AGILITY
4.46 in the 40-yard dash ... 345-pound bench press ... 512-pound squat ... 327-pound power clean ... 43-inch vertical jump ... 31 5/8-inch arm length ... 9 1/8-inch hands ... Right-handed.
Most of the negatives can be tought. And look around him who he has to learn from. JJ, Dawkins, Lewis, S. Brown, Lito....I never said he was heir apparent, but writing him off without seeing him play down 1 in the NFL is lunacy. If you take nothing else as a sign the kid is good, remember Reid and Co. were pretty high on him at the draft, which to be honest, seems like good enough proof for me.
i really could care less about what some cat from cbssportsline says...ive seen dook play and i have an innate ability to deem how a players game will translate from college to the pros...and this kid does not have one
of course andy loves him...hes a nice farm boy from iowa who is fundamentally sound and gives 130%...in other words hes sees him as a special teams lifer...

I can have a retarded monkey throw poo at a wall with the rookies names on them & have it hit the players that'll make the team as well as any experts.
