PATS TO PEN MANKINS ON MONDAY
A league source tells us that the New England Patriots have reached an agreement in principle with first-round pick Logan Mankins, making them the first team to sign a first-rounder and the only team with all of its selections from the 2005 draft under contract.
The Patriots open training camp practice on Monday.
Mankins, an offensive lineman who is expected to play guard for the Pats, was the final selection in round one. The Fresno State product is 6-4 and 307 pounds, and has a chance to be the opening-day replacement for Joe Andruzzi, who left New England to sign with the Browns.
No terms were available as of Sunday night.
That'll help the Eagles since Mankins was drafted one slot after Patterson.
Here's hoping . . . ..
Raiders have signed Fabian Washington...2 #1's down, 30 to go.

When you think about it, any player entering the NFL that gets a bigger contract then the best WR in the league is ludicris. I have no idea how the hell to spell it.
He's going to be a bust. They should gave gone RB and waited until next year for their 'franchise' QB. But hey, way to pay a 20 something year old several million bucks.
A 20% increase on Manning's ridiculous deal is just astounding. What a robbery. Smith is laughing tonight.
Guess it's the 9ers way of trying to prove they aren't being cheap anymore. That new regime screams "desperation" consistently.

According to the NFL Network either the owner or the GM is thought to be a buffoon around the league.
I guess the Mormon church is looking forward to Smith's tithe :-D

Is Smith Mormon? I thought he only went to Utah because they were one of the only Division I schools who bothered recruiting him.
It is utterly amazing that Alex Smith was the #1 pick in this draft. He is going to be terrible.

I think he'll be agonizingly mediocre. He'll show flashes enough to give the 49ers hope, but he'll fizzle out and show his upside is weak as hell. The 49ers fans could only hope it'd be cut & dried like Ryan Leaf, but it'll be more like Jeff George or even Eli Manning.

Ah, that won't stop them from asking.
The guaranteed money of Mankins, Patterson and Washington are up. Mankins got $100,000 more in guaranteed money but Patterson gets $200K more in salary.
San Diego has signed Luis Castillo and Pittsburgh has signed Heath Miller -- no links yet
Wow, Patterson has the smallest amount of gauranteed money so far. Wonder if that will bring up a contract squabble in the near future or if he has incentives built in.
We at Team Patterson don't mind EARNING the money in our contract. We believe Mike will meet many incentives in his contract and will be approached by the Eagles in about 3 years to lock him up for the better part of his career. His blue collar work ethic in the center of the defensive line will be winning over Philly's fans for years to come.
Thanks for your support.
Cadillac, Thomas Davis and Jammal Brown signed today...
Demarcus Ware, Marcus Spears, Travis Johnson and Aaron Rodgers have signed...
I predict that Pacman Jones will be the hardest one to sign and probably the last to do so. There are rumors going around that the Titans will try to work language into the contract to protect themselves from getting screwed because of Jones' behavior.
It's going to be between Jones and Merriman for the last to sign, I bet.

Roddy White has also signed.
QuoteMinnesota Vikings:The Vikings on Sunday reached agreement in principle with wide receiver Troy Williamson, the earlier of their two first-round draft choices. The South Carolina star was the seventh overall selection in April and is just the third player in the top 10 to strike a contract agreement.
Defensive end Erasmus James of Wisconsin, the Vikings' latter pick in the first round and the 18th overall choice, remains unsigned. The two sides, however, are said to be closing in on a deal.
Financial details of Williamson's contract were not yet available, and the deal might not be officially completed for another day or two as the team and agent David Canter work on language and details. Canter said his client might not be in camp until Monday night or Tuesday morning.
Williamson caught 91 passes for 1,754 yards and 13 touchdowns in three seasons with the Gamecocks, appearing in 34 games and starting 26. He really blossomed in 2004, averaging 19.4 yards per catch and scoring seven times. A very gifted athlete with great deep speed, Williamson is expected, in time, to help compensate for the loss of deep threat Randy Moss in the Vikings' offense.

Someone on ESPN (Clayton, I think?) says Merriman's negotiations could drag on into the season...
Yeah, I could see that happening with Merriman. He fired his agent right after the draft and hired the Poston's. And they've been their using their usual ridiculous tactics with the Chargers.
Derrick Johnson signed

From PFT:
Quote"LIGHTS OUT" GETS PAID
In a move that short-circuited what many thought would be a long and acrimonious contract dispute, the Chargers have agreed to terms with linebacker/defensive end Shawne Merriman, the 12th overall pick in the 2005 draft.
"I'm kind of speechless right now," Merriman said told The San Diego Union-Tribune. "I really didn't believe it was going to get done this soon. I'm more anxious to get out there than I have ever been."
The contract (which we assume his agents read before he signed it) reportedly guarantees $9 million of a five-year, $11.33 million deal.
Merriman refused to participate in offseason workouts due to the team's injury protection language. He later offered to attend meetings at minicamps, but the team declined his offer.
More recently, G.M. A.J. Smith talked tough regarding the team's position, prompting many to conclude that the Postons would dig in for a long fight, lest it be perceived that they caved.

Merriman signed.
so did Jason Campell.. ha, omg the skins are so stooopid.
Seattle signed Spencer...
That leaves 9 draft picks still unsigned.
Rumor out there that Cedric Benson's agent wants him to be paid like the #4 pick in last years draft (Rivers) who ended up getting paid like the #2 overall pick. Lovie Smith isn't happy.
Trent Dilfer is speaking out against Braylon Edwards because he's not in camp yet.
David Pollack and his agent are battling with the Bengals. How hard is it to get a deal done for him? The salary structure has been set by the guys around him.
Ravens fans want Clayton's head right now.
He needs to be in camp so he can figure out how in hell he won't completely suck balls receiving passes from Boller.
Can you really blame him for not wanting to be a Raven?
T.O. accepted what is reported to be the absolute worst contract in NFL history, because he was so happily dazed after being released from his obligation to play for the Ravens.
pft says Clayton has signed.

Things could get interesting when Pacman shows up for Titans camp (http://www.tennessean.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20050809/SPORTS01/508090360/1027) :-D
Quote"It bothers me that I am not on the field," Jones said. "But then I have to hear Keith Bulluck talking about me, how he doesn't even know who Pacman is. As far as my teammate and everything, that will never change. But as far as the respect level off the field and me calling him for advice, that will never happen now."
.
.
.
He said he's tried repeatedly to get in touch with Bulluck and has also noticed comments from defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth, who was a holdout in 2002.
"The kid, what's his name? Haynesworth? He missed four days. The little stuff he is saying is irrelevant," Jones said.
"But Keith saying he is not going to call me Pacman, he is going to call me Adam — 'Who is Adam? I don't know if this guy can help us' — that is a little outrageous for my teammate to say that.''
.
.
.
As for how Bulluck might react to his comments, Jones said: "It really doesn't matter. I hope he responds like a man and tries to call me and talk to me and see what is going on with me. But for the most part I am not here to please Keith or nobody, I am in Tennessee to play football ... That is the only reason.''

You're so banned, Sassy.
Do I get severance pay with that?
Does a foot in the ass count as severance?
I dunno about severance, but I suppose it would count as income. Either way, I guess I'll have to claim that on my taxes.
Several times. But you didn't hear that from me, I'm not allowed to talk to people about tax returns. :paranoid
Several times? Come on man, I gotta feed my family. Can't you just pay me in one lump sum?
I'll see if I can get Shaq to kick you in the ass.
Now that's what I call service. I would have hated to call my union rep over this. I'm glad we resolved this peacefully.
But he's going to wear that big boot the Aussies wanted to kick Bart with. It might be a little snug on him.
