This thread is limited to posters from the CFFFL AFC only.  If your name isn't listed below, please don't post.  Discussion is limited to our fantasy league, trash talk amongst AFC owners, etc.  Any outside or off-topic nonsense will be deleted.

Draft Order
I used a random number generator (http://www.random.org/nform.html) to determine draft order.  Methodology went like so: Twelve random numbers between 1 and 1000 were to be generated.  The first number was to be assigned to PliPlong & Pongora, the second to Reidmes Muffed Punts, the third to CF_Deepballas, etc.  Lowest number chooses first, highest number chooses last.

I generated the following results:

Which translates into our Draft Order:

Draft Type
We will conduct a Message Board draft again this year, but we'll tighten up the rules this time to make the thing move along better.  On the day the draft begins, I will start a thread.  That thread will be for selections only--any other posts will be deleted.  Any comments or trash talk about the draft should be placed in this thread instead of the actual draft thread.
There will be a four hour deadline for making your pick, excluding the hours between midnight and six a.m. Eastern.  If you miss your deadline, then you get the next available player from your list.  You also permanently lose an hour off each remaining deadline (i.e. after the first offense, you drop to 3 hour deadlines for the rest of the draft, after the second, it's only two hours..etc.).  If you miss three deadlines, you forfeit draft privelages and your team will be completed by the Commissioner.  If you do not provide a list, I will draft Ron Dayne, Willie Ponder, Billy McMullen, or some other worthless player for you.  No joke.

Last year, we conducted the draft while I was on vacation with nothing better to do than monitor the draft.  This year, I have to work, so I can't be here all the time.  I will keep the board updated as best as possible, but I ask y'all to be patient.

I do actually agree with this.  Last year or the year before I drafted in the middle of the order which meant that I got to draft in the same spot every round regardless of whether the order was going from front to back or back to front. 

Is that how we're doing the draft this year Dio? 

Example:

1st round
1, 2, 3 ,4 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10

2nd round
10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1

And so on and so forth....

Monday August 1st.  I may start the thread in the morning, but more likely I'll wait to start it until that evening after I get home from work.

I have a list for rounds 1-3 from Satoshi.  Please make like the foreign-exchange fan and pony up a list to me before Aug. 1

And no complaining about the date.  If you can't make it, send a list.

August 1st is fine by me.  It's also a monday so i'll be in front of a computer all week long anyways.  I'll pass on the list.  Lists are for housewives and little girls.

At the risk of being redundant, I want to talk about lists before the draft.  Please read the following carefully.

Here are the rules, as stated earlier:

And here is an appendix to the rules:

round-specific list: supercedes (for that round ONLY) the master list, and (this is critical) delegates selection authority to the Commissioner as soon as your pick is up.  This kind of list is best provided as the draft is chugging along, and allows me to make your pick as soon as it's up to keep things moving.  Typically, round specific lists are short..provided the round before, or during the round, for which the list obtains.  When a round-specific list is provided but a master list is not, the round-specific list still applies only to the rounds specified (i.e. even if someone from your round 4 list is still available in round 5, but you have provided neither a master list nor a Round 5 list, then you get Ron Dayne.)  Multiple round-specific lists (e.g. Rounds 1-3) are not permitted--one round at a time, please.

Examples:
Owner A didn't provide a master list and missed his deadline for round 1.  Commissioner gives him Ron Dayne and he's docked an hour from his deadlines for the rest of the draft.
Owner B did provide a master list and missed his deadline for round 1.  Commissioner gives him whoever is the highest ranked (top of the list) player from the master list, and he's docked an hour from his dealines for the rest of the draft.
Owner C already has 2 QBs and misses his 4th round pick.  He has provided a master list, and the topmost available player is a QB.  Commissioner gives him the QB and docks him an hour for missing the deadline.
Owner D provided no master list, but used round-specific lists for each of the first three rounds instead.  When his pick rolls around in the fourth round, he is nowhere to be found.  One of the players from his round 3 list is still available, but since he did not provide a Round 4 list, or a master list, he gets Ron Dayne and is docked one hour.
Owner E provided a round-specific list for round 9, but happens to be on the board when his pick is up.  The Commissioner will make his pick from the list anyway and the draft moves on.

depending on how long we have to wait between picks, i may wind up sending a list.  I figured we'd be zipping through relatively quickly.

I must reiterate:  I accept only two kinds of lists.  Please look at the rules again if you are not sure how this works.  There are too many of us for me to keep track of lists in 11 different formats.  Give me a master list to protect you against getting the treatment Chuggie just got, and if you want me to pick for you as soon as your pick is up (whether you're on the board at the time or not), give me a round specific list. 

I'm sorry guys, but I can't take the "Here are 35 names, don't pick more than 3 QBs, and don't pick if I'm online, unless I'm on for 15 minutes after my pick is up.."  etc.

If MDS doesn't pick before his turn is up, I have a master list for him.  He'll lose an hour and Satoshi will be on the board at 5:01.  I have a round one specific list for Satoshi, so you can count on his pick being posted on time.


Now...

What is so farging hard about this draft?  Have I made this especially difficult or something?  Two people can't show up for their first pick on time, or send lists?  Christ...all you that had to be done was to send one short list--in hbionic's case 3 names and in MDS' 5 names and we could be cruising along.  Satoshi figured it out, why can't everyone??

With the exception of the Mitchell detour, you guys have matched my first 6 master list picks, in order. If this continues, I'm going to assume Dio has made my list public and y'all are copying off of it.

I submitted a list of 25 players to kick things off, asking just to roll down the list, and requested not to take more than 1 QB. I also said if that was not permissable (there were only 4 QBs on it and 2 were taken already, i believe) that I would live with it. The only reason I submitted it was in the interest of keeping things moving. I apparently can't follow simple directions, and have no desire to cause a hassle, or be given one.

So I hereby respectfully withdrawl from this league, and accept any disbarrment from future leagues that Dio feels obliged to impose. Sorry for causing a problem, but I don't need this shtein. Good Luck guys, I am sure that someone else will be happy to take the team over.

I published the rules from the beginning, making it clear that I don't have the "bandwidth" to babysit everyone's draft according to each person's own system.   I made it painfully clear how I wanted the lists, and even though you persisted in ignoring these directions, I worked with you as best I could.  I'm sorry you are pulling the "I'm taking my ball and going home" routine, it's a drag.

btw, I can't bar you from any future contests, either.  What silliness. 



I will finish drafting Reidme's team myself, and canvass the board for a replacement.   I hope someone will want to fill the spot.  If it would help, I'm happy to offer the sub a choice between the team I draft for my myself and the team I draft in Reidme's wake.

Number farging one...you start this farging draft at 6am my farging time.

#2....its a farging list....most farging fantasy drafts have the option for lists because people don't have the time to sit there and pick...therefore they submit the draft lists to the person conducting the draft so that THEY can take the next name off the list.

Making it round specific eliminates the need to submit a draft list.

Look, I know you're busy and don't have time to hold everyone's hand...but farg...you're not the only who works and what's the farging god damn rush anyfarging ways? The season doesn't start until farging September. Yes, a draft that doesn't last more than  a few days is ideal...but jesus christ....man....I can't win for losing. I'm just farging venting because you covered yourself by setting up the rules like that...but...there should be some flexibility...this isn't farging North Korea.

Anyways, end of rant. Fine me or do whatever, go to the next team...I gotta go.

Eleven people.

Five people don't send lists at all
One person sends a list of 200 names with no instructions at all.
One sends 17 lists, one for each round
One sends a list for just rounds 1-3
One sends a list for the first ten rounds, but wants to pick if they're online when their turn is up.
One sends a list with conditions:not too many of this or that kind, pick by position in this order, etc.
One sends a 35 name list and says 'if I'm on for more than ten minutes without making my pick, then pick for me"

That's how this kind of thing goes if you babysit everyone.  I'm can't keep track of all that.  Seriously, I have to work.  This should be a relatively simple exersize.  I gave the format.  I'm investing a fair amount of time, and I'm trying to run it fairly.  The least you can do is pay attention and be prepared.  I've been clear upfrunt what the rules are.  I'm sorry if you didn't understand them, but that's on you. 

Now once again dude...you're up.  Make a pick.  Then send me a list with 19 names on it so you dont' miss your pick next round!!

As I said earlier, Seasbiscuit36 is going to fill the empty slot.  I offered him a choice between my team and Reidme's abandonded team, and he has chosen to take over my team.

He will now assume drafting responsibilites for the roster currently listed under my name (picking 2nd and 23rd in alternating rounds).  I'll update the threads later to reflect the correct owners, as soon as I can.

If he misses this deadline, it will be his third.  Three strikes, you're out..he will lose draft privelages if he doesn't show up and pick.  I'll draft the remainder of his team, and the rest of you can enjoy not waiting on him every round.

Sarge just made his two picks ten hours late, and I don't have a master list for him.  Do I give him two zesty players and dock him two hours for missing his rounds?  Or just one?  My rules don't cover what happens when someone on one of the ends blows his deadline. 

So okay, I give up.  farg the rules, farg this stupid draft.  I'm not getting paid to run this goddamned thing.  I've spent the last week plus of my life constantly updating, tracking all your lists and requests and doing every farging thing I can to run this fairly and expeditiously, but it just won't end.  I'm sick of it.  It's a drag to enforce the rules, and it's a drag not to enforce them.  I'm so frustrated.

So here it is:
Sarge keeps his picks, because he sent lists early on when it mattered most.

From here on out the rules change in a big way, so pay attention:  the draft is now suspended until tomorrow night.  No more selections.  You have until 6:00 p.m. tomorrow (8/8/05) to send me lists.  Send whatever kind you want, I don't care.  I'll do my best with whatever you send.  I'll finish the draft up tomorrow night offline from your lists, or picking on your behalf if you don't send one (or if your list runs out,) and post all the results. 

If you don't like it, you can farg off.

Next year, the CFFFL AFC will be drafted live.

My bad on being so late with the picks.  Had some technical difficulties on my end with my computer earlier today and hadn't sent a list in before hand.  If you want to cancel my picks out and give me two of your zesty choices, that's fine with me.  When I finally got online and saw that I was up, I just went and made my picks.

Yahoo is loaded with the teams.  Please check out your team to make sure I haven't made an error.

I locked all teams for trades, add/drops, and roster changes.  At noon tomorrow (Sunday, August 21st) I will unlock everything.  I locked the teams for two reasons:
1.) This should give everyone a chance to review their team before we go live.  If I made an error, I will be able to correct it without the complication of people having already made add/drops by the time I try to correct the mistake.
2.)  Some of you are likely champing at the bit to get onto the site and add/drop players.  I want everyone to have some notice when that will be, so everyone has an equal shot at getting in early and often.
