The terror she must have put her family, her fiance and her future in-laws family (and even the neighbors of all involved), is unbelievable.
She needs to be prosecuted and put in jail for the wasted money, time, tears and effort she cost her town, her families and the people who worked so hard to find her.
What a terrible person. I'm happy she is alive, but she deserves to be in jail. Her fiance was being accused of killing her a la Scott Peterson. He was the prime suspect, given a lie detector test, etc.
So disgusting. This whole thing makes me so sick.
Damn. I caught it briefly on the news at work last night and they said she'd been abducted and had her hair cut up.
Now this comes out?
Just like that girl in Wisconsin a few months ago that faked being abducted. They prosecuted her and were seeking reimbursement for the money spent looking for her ass.
They should do the same with this chick.
Got cold feet? Say so! Don't hop a bus to New Mexico! Jeez.

Wow. Jail? I think that's a little much.
Terrible person? Get a grip,
PG. Have a little sympathy. I agree she needs to accept responsibility for her actions..take $50 bucks from her monthly wages until the expense is paid off...and move on. This is a happy ending, not a bad ending. Lighten up, folks.
Yes, Jail.
Sympathy? Her fiance was treated as if he were a killer by people.
He was given lie detector tests, probably looked at the wrong way by a lot of people. And all the while, he was scared to death for his fiancee.
She is such a selfish and stupid woman. If you have cold feet, say it. Don't scare the living crap out of your entire family and whatnot.
I mean, she OBVIOUSLY knew the big to-do being made about the "abduction" online, on TV, in the papers. It was EVERYWHERE. She sees her family crying, her FIANCE BEING GIVEN A LIE DETECTOR TEST, etc...and she couldn't come clean then?
You're right, burn the bitch at the stake. Clearly she intended all of this. Clearly, she meant to impugn her fiance, scare the whole country, and upset PhillyGirl.
Do you know this woman? Do you know the story? Maybe..just maybe..she's not all that well? A bit of mental trouble, maybe a comulsive liar, perhaps some drug addiction or something like that going on? Gets spooked, runs from the wedding. Stays holed away somewhere, loaded, doesn't read the papers. Just trying to ignore what she's just done. Eventually realizes the magnitude, and comes forward. Scared, makes up a story about abduction to try to deflect some heat. I don't know. Seems possible to me.
I wouldn't want her baby sitting my nephew, but I stop somewhere well short of "terrible person" and jail. And with that, I'll stop talking to you about this because clearly, you just want to revile the woman. Enjoy the self righteous buzz while it lasts...
Wow, she's got a case of the crazy-eyes in the pic. Fiance should have seen that coming.

Its really funny how absolutely hypocritical you are.
This is going to sound painfully Dio-like but here she goes...
I don't blame her as much as the pathetic media we have in the US today. Pretty white girl goes "missing" and all the networks are creaming themselves because they think they have another Laci Peterson. The woman surely didn't plan all this...no way she knew that the national whore media would pick up on this and run with it.
Fines? Yes. Jail? No.
Jail may be a bit harsh. She should definately recieve some sort of punishment/fine for wasting tax dollars but that's about it. And like Dio said, we don't know the whole story. Who knows, maybe she was in an abusive relationship or something. In which case, would you agree that she still needs to go to jail PG?
As far as all the trouble she caused with her family, fiance, friends, etc....well it's not a crime to run away from your wedding or anything like that. People up and move every day leaving friends and family left wondering what happened to them. It sucks and may not be the most courtious thing to do but it's far from a crime. I say fine her for the amount spent looking for her dumb ass and make her pay how ever much was lost in wedding costs.
Also, I don't think jail would be a fitting punishment for her anyway. In jail she's eventually going to become someone's wife via prison marriage. I say leave her ass to roam the streets by herself because she's never going to get a date with anyone ever again after pulling this stunt. By not sending her to jail would be a lifetime sentence to solitary confinement.

from the article
QuoteHer disappearance quickly drew national media attention, including talk show speculation sometimes comparing the story to that of Laci Peterson
....
Wilbanks' fiance said he tried not to get upset about the media comparisons to the Peterson case since he knew her family had faith in him.
"I never worried that they were going to point their fingers at me," Mason said.
yeah, talk show speculation...thats valid. ::) big difference in media speculations and what the police were actually doing ::)
she chickened out. but in no way should be put in prison for it. it was nothing more than the media drumming up some hype on a missing pretty white girl.
600 guests at a wedding? jeez...thats a little excessive. and 28 member bridal party :-D

I'm siding with Dio on this. What she did appears outwardly wrong, but she doesn't deserve jail time. Try her, find her guilty of something, give her probabtion and service, and make her repay the money wasted while looking for her. But jail appears to be overkill.

I think its a vagina.
When somebody goes missing a lot of people kick into action. Searches are conducted. People go into places like marches and swamps looking for the person. If I was on a search party and the chick was like "sorry, just kidding" I'd be pretty jerked. There should be a harsh punishment so other knuckleheads don't pull the same stunt.
Hello?
The husband HIRED A LAWYER AND HAD TO TAKE A POLYGRAPH TEST.
NOT speculation Wingspan.
Fact.
QuoteAuthorities had searched for Wilbanks since Tuesday, when Mason first reported her missing to police. He had told them she went out for an evening jog near their home in Duluth, outside Atlanta, and never returned.
The search later turned into a criminal investigation. Mason hired a lawyer and passed a polygraph test.
And her family posted a $100,000 reward for her return or the arrest and conviction of those responsible for her disappearance.
http://www.cnn.com/2005/US/04/30/wilbanks.found/index.html
Kids run away from home all the time. And I'm not talking about little kids who don't understand the consequences but teenagers. Their parents freak out and searches are conducted. When it turns out that the kid was hiding out someplace for a few days should he/she be tried and sent to juvy or jail?
Yes, what she did was totally farged up but not worthy of jail time. However, she did make a false call to 911. Should authorities decide to take legal action agianst her on that, I would be all for it.
QuoteAnd her family posted a $100,000 reward for her return or the arrest and conviction of those responsible for her disappearance
Since she turned herself in and was the responible party in her dissappearance, does that mean she gets the reward? :paranoid
Jeez people, can't we be a little more sympathetic here???
I mean not one word about her poor father!
That sumbitch had to pay for a wedding with a guest list of 600 people and poof! NOTHING!
600 people at a wedding? Are you kidding me? The least she could've done was tell a bridesmaid that she was bolting or something. Even if she had cold feet and was feeling trapped or whatever, she should have to pay for the man hours put in to search for her sorry butt. She deserves some sort of punishment.
I don't think she shoudl end up in the clink, but I definitley think that she should be paying the state and local authorities back. Open up that big ass bank account and dish it out to the people who were out there searching for her.
And if I'm the husband....I NEVER walk down the aisle with her. Get as far away as you can, bro.

Good. Fry the bitch.
From the Story PG linked:
QuoteLast year, a Wisconsin college student who faked her own abduction and turned up curled in a fetal position in a marsh was given three years' probation for obstructing police and was ordered to repay police at least $9,000 for their search.
There's your precedent. Give her probatioin, force her to make restitution. Jail time not warranted, IMO.
Hopefully the family and fiancee can get on with life, and if the girl needs psychological help, get it for her.
She should be forced to make a sex tape in her wedding dress with the guy she was going to marry, the best man, and the ushers. That'll teach her, and it'll pay for all the trouble she caused.
Who'd pay to see all those men having sex? Well, other than Jeff Garcia...
I'm not sure he'd want to see a woman or a wedding dress, but he'd probably pay a lot to see all that throbbing gristle.
PG - I agree, what she did was ludicrous, and she should repay the gov't for time. If I was her fiancee, I'd dump her in a heartbeat and consider myself lucky. If she wigged about the wedding, what happens at 3 in the morning when the kid won't stop screaming from their ear infection? And her husband-to-be wasn't the "prime suspect". He is the first person you always rule in-out. He passed his lie detector test and they moved on.
However, her crime is pretty minimal. Hear about Trinity College scare here in Chicago? A black woman wants to transfer to Jackson State, but her dad says no. So she sends threatening letters to three white girls dating black men, in the hopes of trying to convince her pa it's too dangerous to stay at Trinity. Evacuate all the black students off campus for their safety over her selfishness. If you want to crucify someone, crucify her.

What did she do in Georgia that is illegal? She is an adult who took a bus ride without telling anyone. I would hazard a guest that this happens all the time. She didn't stage anything, she just split. Isn't unrestricted travel a basic right in this country. I guess her father has the right to sue her over the wedding costs, but criminal prosecution? This is way to sensationalized. If the media wasn't so heavily invested in the story, there would be absolutely no thought of prosecution.
she called 911 and said she was kidnapped.
