Title: CFFFL Playoff rules
Post by: MURP on November 30, 2004, 11:11:15 AM
Just to get this cleared up now, please read carefully... and if there are any questions lets get it out of the way now.

Weeks 14, 15, 16 will be used as playoff/superbowl weeks.   Since week 17 NFL teams sometimes sit their stars that week is out.

Top 4 teams from the CFFFL NFC and top 4 teams from CFFFL AFC make the playoffs which start week 14.  That means this week, 13, is the final regular season game.   After week 13, this sunday, we will know who is in the playoffs.   Teams with the best record get in... if there are ties in record, tiebreaker goes by head to head record of the tied teams.  If the teams played each other twice and split it goes to who has scored the most points overall in the entire season.  read that again, not hard to follow.

After this week the 1-4 playoff seeding will be figured out.  In week 14,    1 plays 4, 2 plays 3.   Note that the Yahoo games themselves in the playoff weeks have no meaning for these playoffs.

Week 15 will be the NFC and AFC championship game.  Week 16 will pit the NFC champion vs the AFC Champion in the superbowl.

Right now in the NFC, Zanshin, Mussa and Joneszilla have clinched a playoff spot with 9-3 records. This week will be important to figure out their playoff seeding.   Mikey(7-5), PG(7-5) and NB(6-6) are battling for the 4th spot.    If both mikey and PG win this week it will come down to who has scored more points in the season overall (since they split their regular season games).

Any questions at all please ask now.

PS: What is the AFC looking like now?

Pleeeeeeeeeeeeease, I lose Priest Holmes for the last 4 weeks, and I lose 4 straight.  If I had Priest all season I would have crawled into the playoffs. :boom :boom I went from 6-2 to 6-6.  I would have atleast one of those games, probably 2+ and either been tied or in the lead for the 4th playoff spot.

:'( :'( :'( waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!

The question is, who will be the #1 seed?  You 3 have a lot to play for.

Post by: Diomedes on December 06, 2004, 12:44:26 PM
With action this week almost concluded, here is the picture at the top of the CFFFL AFC Division.

Three teams have secured playoff spots:
AntiMustacheBitchers (hbionic) (AMB hereafter) loses this week to CSD (CheeseSteakDude) (CSD hereafter) and falls to 9-4.
Brooklyn Huns (Diomedes) (BH hereafter) wins this week over JTrotterFan, improving to 9-4.*
CSD defeats AMB and likewise improves to 9-4.

The fourth spot is up for grabs between two teams, depending what happens tonight.

Muffed Punts (Reidme) (MP hereafter) (8-4), trail Stiffler's Pale Ale (Sgt. PSN) (SPA hereafter) (7-5), by 37 points with Shaun Alexander still to play.  SPA has no one left to play.  If MP can muster the win on the strength of Alexander's performance tonight, they will improve to 9-4 and lock up the last playoff slot.

If however SPA hangs on for the win tonight, then they will improve to 8-5 (with an 8 game win streak!!), and conclude the regular season tied with MP (and possibly DMAC2T.O. (PhillyMic2000) (D2T hereafter) 7-5), forcing a three way tie-break which they will win, locking up the last playoff spot.**

Regarding Seeds:  This is complicated and the final ranking depends on what happens in the MP vs. SPA contest tonight.  If MP wins, then we'll have four 9-4 teams and one heck of a logic problem for me to puzzle out.  I haven't even begun to think about that.
As it stands now, three teams have 9-4 records.  None of these three teams enjoys the head-to-head tie-break advantage over BOTH of the others, so according to the rules, determination of the #1 seed is based on total points.***   With 1377.50, BH will take the #1 seed..  That leaves AMB as the #2 seed  with 1256.50 and CSD with the #3 seed at 1247, subject to change depending upon tonight's results.****

*Each team has one defensive back remaining to play in tonight's game, so I'll take the risk and and say that BH's 53 point lead will hold.
**Assuming an SPA win tonight, the tie-break between SPA and MP is a draw on head-to-head games because MP was victorious in their first match (week 4).  The second criteria is points: SPA has 1289 and MP 1207.  Since SPA leads the total point count by greater than the margin by which they lead MP in tonight's game, it is logically impossible that MP could win the tie-break on points.  So if SPA can hang on tonight, they will also win the tie-break over MP, and the fourth spot in the playoffs.
Even if D2T wins tonight, they are eliminated.  Leading by 26.5 points (with kicker J.Brown left to play) against Chuck_Chillout's Deepballas, who have Hasselbeck going tonight, D2T has a chance of improving to 8-5. If that happens, AND SPA wins, then D2T will join MP and SPA at 8-5.  In that case, a three way tie would force a tie-break.  SPA wins the tie-breaker over MP as mentioned above, and having split their head to head match-ups (weeks one and ten) with D2T, would defeat D2T on points, 1289 to (approximately) 1227.50.  SPA would hold the tie break over both of the other 8-5 teams, and hence take the last playoff spot.  Finally (and I hope obviously), if D2T wins tonight but SPA loses, D2T fails to advance because MP will lock the final spot up on the 9-4 record.
***AMB holds the tie break over BH (from week 7).
BH holds the tie break over CSD (from week 6).
CSD holds the tie break over AMB (weeks 4 and 13).
****CSD has Jason Witten tonight, so he it's quite possible that he could move into the second seed.

There is a heck of a problem being created by JTrotter over at Yahoo AFC league, it needs addressing, both directly and in league sanctions. If it is left unaddressed, cest la vie, I will be picking it clean.
Title: Re: CFFFL Playoff rules

Diomedes just alerted me to this.
1.  That is a horseshtein move by JTrotterfan and it pisses me off.
2. None of the players he cut can be picked up by other teams.   If someone picks a player up that he cut, that player will be removed from the owners roster by Dio (who can do this using the commish tools).
3.  You can do normal FA moves until Wed at noon.  At that point, all teams rosters will be frozen for the rest of the year season since we are going into the playoffs.   There is to be no BS roster moves by non playoff teams cutting their players so playoff teams can pick them up.  Anyone who does this will be banned from CFFFL next season.

JTrotterFan cut his entire team.  Slick move.  I've advanced the waiver period on all of these players to 7 days.  That will keep them from showing up on anyone's roster this weekend.  See MURPs note above regarding transactions going forward which applies to BOTH CONFERENCES.

Our tiebreakers go by head to head first and then total points.  McNabb 2 Owens beat you in the regular season so he gets the tiebreaker for #2 playoff seed.  If I missed something with the head to head games let me know.

It matters to everyone else-- it's not just about you.  Dropping all of your players give an EXTREMELY unfair advantage to other teams, and it cheapens the entire idea of a Super Bowl with the NFC.  It's cheating, plain and simple.

Clearly I need to post something in the rules about that next year, I figured everyone in the league was intelligent enough not to pull some BS like that. (apparently everyone but you was).   The bid deal is that while your craptastic team might be done, there are playoff teams who are still playing and it clearly screws things up when good players are thrown into the free agent pool.   There are 12 non playoff teams and you were the only one to pull a juvenile thing like that.

Okay, ya know what...i don't need everyone farging telling me about it okay...i was drunk, i dropped my players and now there is nothing i can do about it.  I don't care if you all think i'm the spawn of satan and despise me for it...because i really don't care anymore.

Well this thread just went down the crapper.

JTrotter, I don't consider you dropping your entire team to be cheating unless you had secretly informed another member of the league that you were going to drop them thus giving them an unfair advantage on picking them up.

At the same time though, I don't think there was any point behind doing it.

We're not playing for money and I don't have any invested in this, so it's strickly for fun on my part.  No real need for this to have been blown up like it has been imo.

I've enjoyed the season so far and look forward to destroying you all in the playoffs.  :)

so instead of having a "farg you" attitude about everything to everyone one why dont you simple say you were hammered and made a mistake?

I am sorry to anyone that i offended with my harsh and crappy attitude.  Yes, i was hammered and dropped my team after i got pissed for having such a crappy team.  No, it's not a good excuse.  Yes, it was stupid to do.  I'm sorry that i ruined everyone's ability to add/drop players for the playoffs.

Since there is a possibility of a tie in these games, the tiebreaker will go to the team with the higher seeding in the game.  Makes it simple.

In the AFC, Stiffler's Pale Ale (Sgt. PSN) won their ninth in a row, defeating Brooklyn Huns (Diomedes), and will advance.  They will meet CSD (CheeseSteakDude) in the conference championship, after CSD defeated hbionic's AntiMustachBitchers.

Good luck this week folks.

RedBeards (Mussa) beat Dark Angels (PG) 134.5- 94

Yes you do have a chance, Im not sold on a win yet, but Manning knowing hes 2 away from the record could just explode, even if its on the Ravens.  I might be at the game, my buddy from the navy said he wants to go, so we might try to get tickets, so ill be sure to let u know.

AFC update:  Sgt. PSN will win the AFC Champtionship.  At present, he holds a 71.5 point advantage over CheeseSteakDude, who has only Vinatieri remaining to play.

Cogratulations to Sarge for a stunning season.  After losing the first five games, Sgt. PSN has now won 10 in a row!  Incredible.  Good luck in the :CF superbowl this week!

How's this going to work this week since our teams are in different Yahoo leagues?  Should we both post our team rosters here and note who our starters are going to be as well as doing so on the web?

Or are we just going to set our rosters on Yahoo and wait for Murp and Dio to post the results?
Title: Re: CFFFL Playoff rules

You guys should post your rosters on here.  Obviously you can make changes up to the start of the game via Yahoo.

Well if LJ has a good game or Akers starts bombing 50 yarders.... I imagine you will catch me.  I still have Dawkins going tonite, so him and Kearse should basically be a wash.  good luck.
I made some horrible moves this week too....Favre(32.5), Muhammad(23), and Droughns(30) were all on my bench.  :-D :bash :bash
