His wife has cancer. link (http://www.duluthsuperior.com/mld/duluthsuperior/10018379.htm?template=contentModules/printstory.jsp)
That is awful news. I hope she gets through it and beats that awful thing.
sheesh...so when exactly did favre kill a black cat with a giant mirror?
thats terrible to hear about though.
Man that is just terrible. 2 deaths in the family within the last year already and now this. I wish his family the best.
geez, that is awful. I remember he stayed home with his wife missing practice the other week, it said she was "ill"... now this news. :(
That sucks (no pun intended). Sounds like it was caught early enough, though...so that's a good thing.
Can it get any worse for that family?
It can always get worse.
I knew that, but I really didn't want to think it.
That's why I'm an optimist. I know it could always be worse.

Damn...couldn't happen to a classier guy, either. Hope she gets well quick.
Favre shaves his head (http://www.channel3000.com/sports/3984927/detail.html) in support of his wife, who is starting to lose hers as a result of chemotherapy treatments.

Favre's family home destroyed in Katrina (http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/4824234)
Pardon me if I don't get all weepy over that.
He can't possibly afford to rebuild.
His comments during the press conference yesterday were about as classy as you get get. I'll give him that.
QuoteBonita, Jeff and another brother, Scott, decided against evacuating and instead gathered at Favre's childhood home in Hancock County, one of the areas hit hardest by the hurricane. Favre said his grandmother, aunt and other family members also were there.
:boom
Favre has all the money in the world, and plenty of people up his ass. I'm sure he could've fanagled Tags or Madden to send a private jet to fly his family to Green Bay instead of waiting out the storm in Mississippi.
They had 2 farging days to get out, like everyone else. They CHOSE to stay. Idiots. Just like the ones we're ripping on in the Katrina thread in the General section. His family is dumb and so is he for not TELLING them to leave.
Agreed, PG.
And now the whole world feels terrible for Favre and his family when their safety was compromised by their own stupidity.
Yes, I'd feel just as bad for them as I do everyone else had they evacuated and made sure they were safe...because they have lost their home and everything they own. The normal people down there grabbed any and all valuables (photos, heirlooms, etc) and got the hell out of dodge so they didn't have to worry about LIVING.
Cripes, the stupidity of some people farging astounds me.
Also remember, this storm weakened substantially before it hit MS. Just 12h before, it was at 175 mph winds and a barometer reading of 902, the 4th strongest hurricane ever recorded in the Atlantic, and MUCH bigger than Andrew. Anyone that rode this out is a complete farging moron or suicidal.
Maybe his family didn't want to live with the knowedge that one of their own was constantly getting head from John Madden.
maybe they wanted to stay and loot like the rest of them.
I'm surprised I haven't heard anything about the Manning family mansion, which resides smack in the heart of New Orleans.

I thought they were from Mississippi and the reports were that their home was fine?
I'm pretty certain Archie Manning has a mansion in New Orleans and his boys attended the snobby, fancy-lad schools in that area.

Yep...and the camera crew that loaned her the cell phone to call Brett filmed the whole scene. They had the camera zoomed right in on her face while she talked to him. That'll win ya an award there bub.
It's tough to feel sorry for his family since they had the chance to leave and didn't, but I still feel bad for Favre himself. Sure he can tell them to leave but for all we know he did--what do you expect him to do, fly down there and hold a gun to their heads??
Of course not. He should have hired someone to hold guns to their heads.
Things just keep getting better for Favre.

The Associated Press reports a Phoenix man, William Joachim, was arrested on suspicion of using Green Bay Packers QB Brett Favre's credit card account more than 40 times in Maricopa County. The Attorney General's office said Joachim was arrested on four felony charges of theft, fraud schemes, aggravated taking the identity of another and misconduct involving weapons. Two other men were arrested as well. Arizona authorities received information from the NFL last month that Favre's credit card account had been compromised and more than 40 unauthorized transactions totaling over $10,000 were charged.
That's like pretending you're Oprah. How the hell in the world do you ever think you'll get away with it? Jesus Christ, people are stupid.
40 times and $10,000? The guy was only using it for gas.
Now see, if he had played for the Patriots, he would have had Visa's five layers of protection from that kind of thing.
I don't want to think about New Englanders trying to save Favre.
