Correct. It will probably be a pay station, just like Opie & Anthony on XM.
Opie & Anthony > Stern
XM > Sirius
Are there really that many people who will pay for talk radio? You couldn't pay me to listen to some of it, honestly.
You may be surprised...I'm sure that there are millions of people who would listen to Stern (or a number of talk show hosts) via satellite, especially in the places where a show wasn't previously available.
Oh, I'm sure I'd be surprised. They must have business models to estimate those things....I just don't get it. I'll add that to the ever-growing list of things I don't get ;).
I read somewhere that the current Sirius subscriber base is about 600k and the current Stern listening base is about 12 mill, so this could certainly change the balance of power a little in satellite radio.
That said, O & A always has be pissing myself laughing, while I find genuine laughs from Stern few and far between, mostly because his ego is 10 times bigger than his sense of humor. I respect him as a pioneer in talk radio, but he's just not as funny as he was when he was younger.

I blame the FCC. His show was better 5-10 years ago with Jackie, but he's still the man.

More like $0.56, but since it started the day at $3.35, $0.56 ain't bad (roughly a 17% gain).
This is all I need. First the never-ending plugs for Tony Hawk's radio show, now they'll pimp Stern like there's no tomorrow. As if anyone listening to Sirius that gives a farg about him doesn't already know.
Damnit! They've already started doing it. :'(
Stern's going to spend the next 15 months railing against Clear Channel, the FCC and pimping Sirius for free.
In other words, the show will be infinitely (forgive the pun) more interesting to listen to than it's been in years!
Now, where's that dancing smiley when you need it? >:D
Good for Stern I say. I'm interested in one of the satelite radios anyway, now this gives me a better reason to get it. :yay
I heard on the NY News that they're paying Stern upwards of $100 Million a year. lol...no wonder he's doing it.
Yikes. Sell that stock now!

:o :o :o :o
$100 million per year for the whole show, 5 year deal.
No doubt a huge chunk of that is Stern's salary, but not the whole thing. Early pundits are already saying that Sirius' claim that they will only need 1 million new subscribers to cover the costs is grossly under what the number will actually have to be.
That is a tremendous amount of money. And I didn't get the sense that he was hurting for cash beforet this. Wonder what his net worth will be with this contract. Has to be insane.
You gotta believe Alison (the ex-Mrs. Stern) is not hurting, either. :-D
Imagine that!
There are suckers out there willing to drop money just so they can listen to a stale radio personality say farg on the air!

I'll say. I used to be a big fan, but the show just keeps getting worse and worse. First, Howard got divorced and became a typical celebrity socialite with a model girlfriend. There goes his "family man" quality. Then the show got rid of Jackie the Jokeman and replaced him with unfunny, fatass, Belushi-wannabe Artie. And since the Super Bowl he's done nothing except bitch about the FCC and Bush. I agree with him that the FCC's censorship sucks, but even I am so tired of the bitching. Oddly enough, Kerry said he thought the FCC was right about Stern, and yet Stern still is obsessed with bringing down Bush. Meanwhile a few years ago Stern was begging Bush to invade Iraq and every other country over there. Hey Stern, try making your show funny again.
I don't know what show u have been listening too but since his announcement he has been funnier than ever. Its like a weight has been lifted from their shoulders. He has layed of the political shtein. Artie is waaaay better the Jackie IMO.

That's why after ten years of listening to him I just couldn't take it any more. I haven't tuned into his program since the end of February or the beginning of March.......I'm tempted to put him on on November 3rd should President Bush kick Kerry's ass. ;)

I was never an avid Stern listener but I did find his show extremely funny at one point. Over time though, his antics stopped being funny and started becoming redundant. He's like the Jerry Springer of radio now imo.
We've all heard the stat that says most of Stern's listeners tune in because they hate him and want to hear what he says just so they can rip him. I wonder how many of those tools will continue to do so now that they'll have to pay for it?
Just got Sirius and hooked it up and it's freaking great! Worth every penny and Stern's not even on yet. :yay

More gooder. by far.
I can't wait until Howie fails on Satellite.
Howard still rules. I tried to get into O & E when they were on in the afternoons in DC but just couldn't. Although one guy did once eat a bucket full of some dudes vomit and toenails for superbowl tickets. that made me laugh.
When I had DirectTV they had XM radio as part of the package, I gave O & A a try but they were awful.
I got kind of sick of O & A, and I cancelled XM. That said, I still think they're a lot funnier than Stern.

i will say this, to give them a fair chance, you need to listen for a week. they have so many call-backs and past references that listening for one day doesn't make much sense.
i listened to O and A when they were on wysp...i liked them. they were funny. and really were unjustly and unfairly fired. in fact eventually the FCC said there was nothing indecent about the broadcast (the act was illegal) but what they put through on air was not.
now? not so much. pretty boring on satellite radio same shtein over and over again, and i imagine stern will be. i always thought O&A were funnier when they were trying to get around the censors.
they are not funny enough to pay for by themselves (even above the normal subscription rate, where you ad that premium channel).
i will say this, i never laughed so hard as i did when they did the Homeless Shopping Spree a few years ago before they were canned.
QuoteRock legend Bob Dylan has signed up to present a weekly radio show in America. The hour-long show will broadcast on the Deep Tracks Channel, which is part of the XM subscription-only satellite radio service, from next March. It will be the first time 64-year-old Dylan has DJ'd on the radio. The singer says, "A lot of my own songs have been played on the radio, but this is the first time I've ever been on the other side of the mic." The show will feature "an eclectic mix of music hand-selected by Dylan" as well as interviews and commentary, according to XM. XM chief creative officer Lee Abrams says, "Bob Dylan epitomizes the American music experience and his unflagging integrity and vision defines everything we hope for XM to be."
O & A were freakin hilarious. pushed it waaay more than Stern. I still love Stern, but O&A were worse.
I love when they would put chicks in the hissing cochroach drum. I think the all time best though by them was when they would call people and then play recorded talk from that psychic hotline lady...Cluey(sp?)...the " Call me now" (insert fake jamaican voice) lady. They would piss people off, thinking they were paying for a psychic. Some of the reactions from those recordings were great. :-D
Anybody remember that?
[RANT]
I'm really getting pissed off with the growing trend of pushing delivery technology by controlling content. I don't resent paying for satellite radio, but I do resent that the choice of providers is made for me by the content I want to receive. Similarly with TV - I'd much rather have satellite TV (better value), but if I want to watch the Flyers or anything else on CSN, I need cable. :boom [/RANT]

they are doing that again in a couple weeks, should be great.
I know that getting around the sensors was one of the things that made O&A really funny on regular radio. But they don't need to do that now, and it's not like they curse just to curse. They just talk like most guys sitting around would, it a curse comes up, they don't have to be worried about it.
One of the great advantages of being on satellite is the freedom. They were the only ones who were able to broadcast the uncensored Pat O'Brien phone messages. If you tried to play those on regular radio it would be awful with all the bleeps.
The bottom line for me is, I loved the show on WYSP, but IMO, the satellite show is better. No 18 minute commercial breaks, no dumping out of great stuff that may cross the FCC lines. I'm more than happy to pay 12.99 a month just to listen to them, but with all the other stuff XM offers, it's a great deal.

I was trying to latch onto them because overall I liked XM radio more than I liked Sirius. I might have become a fan if they played them in Cali and had more of a fan following out there. I've been listening to Stern for 16 years (my Step Dad pulled me from school to go to the Zoo Keepers funeral) and he still does it for me. Overall though, Satellite radio is worth it, the talk shows, sports talk shows, and commercial free music makes it worth the $13 per month. :yay

Excellent point, and my main concern about the move to "eh--ehhh--eh". Part of Sterns humor has been the ways he would "get around" the FCC.
Jackie the Joke man was on Stern this morning and it was good radio. getting around the sensors was just part of what made the show so good. All the tension amongst the staff and towards the boss made for good listening. The crew busting on fafa and whomever deserved it was what made things so funny. The new crew is OK, but it doesn't have that same dynamic. I'm sure Stern will try everything he can to get that back. Even if he has to instigate the FCC to come after him on Sirius.

I thought so too, maybe Jackie will think it over and give him a call. Sounded like he doesn't have much else going on in his life. Was good to hear he lost weight and stopped hitting the bottle once he quit the show. At 57 he's getting up there in age.
Cabbie also called in from jail. He's due to be released June '06.
Still some bitter feelings between him Fred and Robin, but that is what made great radio. When the caller asked if he was going to go to eh eh eh there was a moment where no one wanted to answer the question. Jackie piped in and removed himself from the equation. I guess he just can't get up in the morning.... dumbass. There's no reason why they couldn't keep Artie and add Jackie to the equation even if it's part time. That is if they can deal with him...

They said this morning that Benji took Jackies job but I always assumed it was Artie. Jackie constantly ripping on Fa Fa never gets old :-D The show was so much better with him antagonizing everyone, but once he and John left that part of the show went to the wayside. QuoteHoward Stern to Get $220M in Sirius Stock 1 hour, 34 minutes ago
NEW YORK - Sirius Satellite Radio Inc. will give Howard Stern 34 million shares of stock — worth about $220 million at today's prices — because the company has met agreed-upon targets for gaining new subscribers under its 2004 deal with the shock jock.
In a regulatory filing Thursday, Sirius said its subscriber count as of Dec. 31, 2005, exceeded the target it had agreed upon with Stern in October 2004, when it made a five-year deal with him.
At the time, Sirius said its deal with Stern would be worth about $100 million per year beginning in 2006. The 34.4 million shares were worth about $110 million then, but the stock has roughly doubled. The increase has given Stern a windfall of about $100 million to date.
Stern begins his new show on Sirius on Jan. 9, having left his longtime employer Infinity Broadcasting, which has been renamed CBS Radio, a unit of CBS Corp.
Last month the former president of an accounting firm that Stern used pleaded guilty to insider trading in Sirius shares before the news of Stern's move to Sirius was made public. Gary D. Herwitz, 50, formerly of Mahoney Cohen & Co., faces up to 16 months in prison at his sentencing in March.
Sirius and its rival, the Washington, D.C.-based XM Satellite Radio Holdings Inc., have been spending heavily to line up programming and lure in subscribers to the paid radio services, which work around the country and carry more than 100 channels of commercial-free music as well as talk programming. Both services cost $12.95 per month and require special radio receivers.
New York-based Sirius didn't say what subscriber target it had agreed to with Stern, but it also announced Thursday that it finished 2005 with more than 3.3 million subscribers, compared with 1.1 million at the end of 2004. XM said Wednesday that it now has more than 6 million subscribers.
Separately, Sirius also announced Thursday that it would start a new 24-hour Playboy-branded channel early this year with Playboy Enterprises Inc. that will include live call-in shows, talks with Playboy founder Hugh Hefner and broadcasts from the Playboy Mansion.
Shares of Sirius rose 3 cents to close at $6.39 Thursday on the Nasdaq, while XM shares fell 55 cents, or 2 percent, to close at $27.29.
Holy fargin shtein.
:o
Sirius is only going to get bigger too. I listened today to the live rehearsal and was glued to my radio. DLR is absolutely unlistenable and will probably be responsible for another 1 million or so subscribers.
SD were you surprised by Howard's non-use of curse words? I am not. If necessary or appropriate I am sure he will. But gratuitous cursing is just not his thing.

Nope, wasn't shocked in the least. He briefed his entire crew on the use of curse words and how important it was to only use them when they were appropriate. He was on Larry King lastnight and hit the nail on the head by saying it wasn't so much the cursing on his show being censored that was bothering him, it was the situations and stories that were being deemed inappropriate.
Here were the revelations, they won't say who was which until next Monday:
QuoteI cheated on my wife and she caught me.
I once hid in my bathroom closet and pleasured myself while some of my family members went to the bathroom.
In the last year I got a girl pregnant and had to pay for her abortion.
I think I'm addicted to porn. I masturbate twice a day and prefer it over real sex.
I have spent well over $10,000 on internet porn.
My buddy and I once ordered massage girls to our hotel room but they ripped us off and we were left staring at each other in our underwear.
I have pleasured myself with meat and vegetables.
I have a half sister I've never met and don't want to.
I've had cosmetic surgery.
A guy once blew his load on my chest.
I once had my stomach pump for alcohol poisoning and when I awoke an acquaintance of the same sex was fondling my genitals.
This mornings show was great.
Man, I have to get Sirius radio. His show must be incredible uncensored.

It's great, really not much different from the old show. Everyone thought it would be farg this and farg that but it was nothing like that. They had George Takei on today and had him handling the press conference and stuff. I haven't turned Sirius off since lastnight, well worth the $12 a month.

Here in St. Louis there is a stupid show called Rovers morning glory that replaced Stern on FM radio. This farger just ripped off the entire premise of Howards new show on Siruis. QuoteHere's a wrap up of all of the revelations and who they belonged to...
1. I cheated on my wife and she caught me. - Scott the Engineer
2. I once hid in a bathroom closet and pleasured myself as my family members went to the bathroom. - Sal the Stockbroker.
3. In the last year I got a girl pregnant and had to pay for her abortion. - Richard Christy
4. I think I'm addicted to porn, I jerk off twice a day and prefer to masturbate, rather than having real sex. - Jason Kaplan
5. I have spent well over $10,000 on internet porn. - JD Harmeyer
6. My buddy and I once ordered massage girls but they ripped us off and left us staring at each other in our underwear. - Gary Dell'Abate
7. I have pleasured myself with meat and vegetables. - Robin Quivers
8. I have a half sister I have never met and don't want to. - Fred Norris
9. I've had cosmetic surgery. - Howard Stern
10. A guy once blew his load on my chest. - Artie Lange
11. I once had my stomach pumped for alcohol poisoning and when I woke up, an acquaintance of the same sex was fondling me. - Benjy Bronk
Bonus Revelations...
* I once called a black guy the N-word to his face and he beat me so bad I needed 6 stitches. - Gary Dell'Abate
* A girl I liked was mean to me at a club so I bought her a drink, jerked off in it, gave it to her and she drank it. - Sal the Stockbroker
* I met a girl at a bachelorette party, had sex with the girl and the girl turned out to be the bachelorette who got married 2 days later. - Artie Lange
Quote9. I've had cosmetic surgery. - Howard Stern
hollywood fun got to him, eh?
I'm sure he'll find a way to blame the FCC for needing plastic surgery.
Howard's revelation sucked ass. His show is still the best on the air, but he obviously stopped being a "man of the people" long ago. Getting cosmetic surgery is not that surprising for a guy who divorced his wife and lives with a model girlfriend, has an apartment in Manhattan and a house in the Hamptons, eats at Nobu, changed his politics from pro-war libertarian to Hollywood liberal, and prefers watching Dancing with the Stars over football. I would have been more surprised if his revelation was that he didn't have plastic surgery.
QuoteStern to work four days a week
January 27, 2006
'The Revolution" will apparently take Fridays off.
In the buildup to his new show on Sirius Satellite radio, Howard Stern never mentioned that his show, the one that attracted 12 million listeners five days a week, would be a four-day run at his new home.
But that appears to be what will happen. Stern slipped a reference into his show that starting sometime in February, his longtime producer Gary Dell'Abate will serve as the host one day a week, possibly for an extended version of the one-hour "Wrap-up Show" he hosts after Stern's show.
"Listen to the show. That's how you'll know when he's on," Sirius spokesman Patrick Reilly said.
that's some good public relations right there.
Stern's complacency and laziness will cost Sirius.
whats with your hatred for howard and man-crush on O & A? i tried to get into those guys when they were on in the afternoons in DC a few years ago, but never thought they were funny.
except one time they had a contest to win super bowl tickets, and it was who could eat more out of a bucket of vomit and toenails. i was crying.
i just think O & A are 100 times funnier, I'm not sure how long you listened to them, but it takes a little while to get into the flow and all the call backs they have. they just do funny shtein.
like the other day, one of their regular freaks was about to get evicted. so some fans had a fundrasier and raised $2,000 for her. but to get the checks, O&A made her crawl naked through mouse traps on the floor. it was hilarious.
I don't listen to either anymore. O & A is too childish for everyday listening, and Stern is whiny and full of himself.
At least O & A makes an effort to be funny, though. Stern doesn't even do that most of the time.

O&A are so anti-Stern that their fans just follow along with whatever they say. I could give two shteins if someone thinks O&A is better, but I find it comical how their following has to go out of its way to tell us how superior they are. I heard them, didn't like them, let it be.

dude, how is he not a hypocrite? he was great through the 80s and early 90s by being a true person, being honest. he'd take on other hosts and drive them into the ground, he'd rip celebrities for getting divorced and having a trophy girlfriend/wife, he'd kill celebrites who had gotten plasitc surgery. he's become the very person that he made his career on. that's the definitoin of a hypocrtie.
as far as the "fabricated" story of Howard putting a gag-order on O&A. there's nothing fabricated about it. they were banned from using his name on-air (by him of course, even though he's a big tough broadcaster), so they referred to him as "radio edit" which they were also not allowed to say. people outside of O&A can vouch for the NUMEROUS stories of Howard trying to keep them out of the spotlight, but you won't believe that big tough Howard would ever do that, so what's the point.
but there must be some reason why Infinty decided to pay O&A for 2 years of doing nothing instead of not paying them and letting them go to the competition and go against Howard in mornings? right? there's got to be some other reason than the fact that Infinity was scared to have them go against Howard head to head in mornings.

thats half true.
except o and a never fought the suspension. there was grounds to fight it too (the FCC never actually fined them for anything related to the broadcast of Sex for Sam, there was nothing indecent about what was actually said over the airwaves). don't kid yourself...o and a are as big a phonies as howard. they gladly sat back and just waited for the contract to end, because they knew no other company would hire them. (radio one, clearchannel, greater media all showed absolutley no interest in them). XM was the only people to look at them, and they didnt nearly get the contract they had before.
they also flopped the original plan on having their show on the XM premium...no one went for it.

it wasnt just the church incident...it was them. they very frequently would get a stunt approved by the stations legal department...only to add some to it and go against the lawyers and change it without telling them. the story that i heard, the way it related to the church incident was the lawyers never knew there would be a church on the checklist for places to go. they added it later. (i met rick delgado, their old producer, when he was helping with the preston and steve show about a year ago and thats basically how it went down, they never fought the suspension because they knew no one would hire them)
had they just listened to the lawyers, they would have been able to do the stunt, and still be on the air. they are the terrell owens' of the radio.
Geez...you guys going to argue over boy bands next?
I hear what you're saying, but most of the 'higher ups' in radio that I talked to said the church incident was 'the' reason nobody wanted to touch them. Guess they crossed the ultimate line. Since I lived in Cali. I wasn't exposed to them, so the church incident was the first I had heard of them. I'm not a fan of theirs but still didn't think it warranted a suspension.
I don't see how they'd have the time to find a boy band to back, what with all this talk radio they're enjoying.

that's not right at all. they didn't "happily sit back" while their contract expired. in fact, they approach Infinity about a buy-out so they could work, only to have infinity agree with the conditions that O & A can never talk about any member of Inifinty without being fined, so they didn't go for that.
as far as them not being able to get work? both Sirius and XM wanted them, was well as Clear Channel. Clear Channel wanted them the day after their show was cancelled, but Ifninty wouldn't allow it.
Quotethey also flopped the original plan on having their show on the XM premium...no one went for it.
flopped nothing, XM put them on premium as almost a probabtionary type of thing so see how they would be on satellite. they were fine, and were moved to the standard platform with all the other programming

Sirius Satellite Radio paid shock jock Howard Stern a bonus worth nearly $83 million on Tuesday for surpassing subscriber goals set in a 2004 contract that had already turned heads with its $500 million compensation package. (http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20070109/wr_nm/sirius_stern_dc_4)

Sirius registered the shares given to Stern with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission later on Tuesday, allowing him to sell some or all of the stock at his discretion.

QuoteSirius had roughly 600,000 subscribers when it signed Stern in 2004 for a contract valued at $500 million over five years.
At the time, analysts had forecast the company would grow to about 3.5 million subscribers by the end of 2006. Sirius and Stern agreed to an added bonus in the event that the number of subscribers exceeded that forecast by more than 2 million.
Last week, the company reported that it ended 2006 with more than 6 million subscribers,
It was only a matter of time.
I wouldn't doubt a Sirius/XM merger sometime in the near future. The one big holdup would be the FCC, so maybe they're waiting for a Dem to take office first.
I haven't listened to Stern since he went off terrestrial radio. I imagine he is still putting slabs of bologna on some slut's ass only now we can hear him say funhole and Hoyda without it being censored, right?

They played shock the puss this morning and had Gilbert Godfreid on who's getting married and has a kid on the way.
Someone actually had sex with him? I wonder if he squints even harder....

The unintentional irony of this post cracks me up.

The guest list for the wedding, held at the restaurant Le Cirque, included Joan Rivers, Barbara Walters, Billy Joel and wife Katie Lee, Jimmy Kimmel, Sarah Silverman and Stern's radio co-host, Robin Quivers.
Stern, 54, and Ostrosky, 36, were joined in a ceremony officiated by Mark Consuelos, the husband of Kelly Ripa, who also attended. Billy Joel sang two songs, and Chevy Chase delivered a raunchy roast, said one guest.
"Beth is the most beautiful bride I've ever seen," said Stern pal Dominic Barbara. (Ostrosky wore Marchesa.) "The vows were from each others' hearts. It was gentle and soft and beautiful. People were crying."
After 11 p.m., Joan Rivers walked out holding a bouquet of cream roses. "I danced with Howard," she said. "The wedding was fabulous, everyone had a great, great time."
A Very Long Engagement
The ceremony follows a long engagement – and a change of wedding venue – for the couple.
In March, Ostrosky said they'd decided to revise their plans to get married in Hamptons and to have a city wedding instead. "We're going to get our friends together at a restaurant, very low-key," she said.
Stern first announced the engagement on his Sirius Satellite radio show on Valentine's Day last year.
When he proposed, Stern presented Ostrosky with a 5.2 carat diamond ring. "I love you. You're everything to me," Stern said he told her. "I'm asking you to spend the rest of your life with me."
This is the first marriage for Ostrosky and the second for Stern.
I tuned into Playboy radio today about 5 minutes ago, they should never let listeners call into the shows ever. Every caller is a trucky and have names like Swampy or Tbone, and they are all from the souf
playboy radio seems like the most unnecessary thing ever.
only in America will radio encourage you to beat off in the car
Beating off in the car is one of life's simple pleasures. Along with beating off at work, in public restrooms, on sleeping children and into fish tanks.
ewwwwww
public restrooms?

QuoteSirius XM Satellite Radio, the financially troubled radio service, is busy preparing for a possible bankruptcy filing, according to a published report.
Sirius, home of shock-jock Howard Stern, has been working with advisers on the bankruptcy documents that could be filed within days, according to The New York Times.
Sirius is staring at a significant debt crisis. According to a story that appeared on Yahoo finance, financial research firm, Moody's, "thinks there's a 'high likelihood' that Sirius will fail to repay or refinance its debt in 2009."
Sirius' debt comes due on Tuesday, according to the Times' story. The company may file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy to pressure Charles Ergen, the satellite-TV magnate who recently bought up most of Sirius' debt, to make a formal offer for the company, the Times reported.
If Ergen chooses to wait and Sirius files for bankruptcy, it might force him to obtain the company through an auction or bankruptcy court. Another alternative for Ergen is to convert his debt into an ownership stake, according to the report.

No, it's most likely heroin.
speaking of.. I cant stand when Artie continuously thinks that we want to hear about his heroin addiction. He acts like its a funny joke and the rest of the country is laughing or intrigued by his every day use.
Although I dig him and think he definitely adds to the show, Im listening to it and thinking what a farging loser he is.
Hes trying so hard to live his life like Belushi but hes not even close to Belushi
plus you don't see many fat heroin addicts.

It was shocking and interesting at first. Now it's just boring and redundant. He lives literallt 3 houses from me at the shore. I should stop over and straighten his ass out next time I see his Benz.
My mom bought me a Sirius Stiletto 2 for Christmas and I just got it yesterday. It was, and still is, on back order on Best Buy's website. They sent her an e-mail and said if they didn't have it within 5 days the order would be canceled. I found it in one of the BB's here in Houston and we changed it to an in-store pick up.
I need to buy the car hook-up and a home docking station and an arm band. It's pretty cool so far. I haven't used it much because I can't get reception inside. I want to use it while I am out driving all day and while I'm in the gym. Using it in the gym will have to be done with programs or songs I record during the day - but that's ok.
Very cool set up.
