Title: CFFFL 2004 - AFC Draft Logistics Thread
Post by: Diomedes on July 24, 2004, 12:14:47 PM
Notice:  This thread is for discussion of CFFFL 2004 - AFC draft logistics--things like the date of the draft, how the draft will be conducted, etc.  Please don't use this thread to post anything off-topic. Thanks.

Communication with Commish should be made in one of these ways:
email: judasdiomedes@yahoo.com
via :CF private message

Draft Date:
What do you think about holding the draft around middle of August?  Too late?  I like this timing for three reasons:
1. I think the first week of August is too early because of injuries during TCs
2. No matter what date we choose, some won't be able to make it.  Even if mid-August is bad for you, at least you would have better than two weeks to provide a list.
3. I'm on vacation (at home) during the third week of August, so that's the best time for me to babysit the draft.  The whole league will benefit from having an idle loser like me moving the draft along, trust me.  [More on draft pacing below.]

Draft Order:
The draft is serpentine: first pick in first round has last pick in second round, etc.  No trading picks.

Here is the draft order*:
Round 1
1.)   Wingspan (Eyeball Kids)
2.)   chuck_chillout (Deepballas)
3.)   phillymic2000 (DMAC2T.O.)
4.)   CheesesteakDude (CSD)
5.)   hbionic (AntiMustacheBitchers)
6.)   Reidme (Muffed Punts)
7.)   Satoshi (Cannibals)
8.)   Sgt. PSN (Stiffler's Pale Ale)
9.)   Diomedes (Brooklyn Huns)
10.) Sapp Hater (Beatin Your Azz)
Round 2
1.)  Sapp Hater (Beatin Your Azz)
2.)   Diomedes (Brooklyn Huns)
3.)   Sgt. PSN (Stiffler's Pale Ale)
4.)   Satoshi (Cannibals)
5.)   Reidme (Muffed Punts)
6.)   hbionic (AntiMustacheBitchers)
7.)   CheesesteakDude (CSD)
8.)   phillymic2000 (DMAC2T.O.)
9.)   chuck_chillout (Deepballas)
10.) Wingspan (Eyeball Kids)
Round 3
1.)   Wingspan (Eyeball Kids)
2.)   chuck_chillout (Deepballas)
3.)   phillymic2000 (DMAC2T.O.)
4.)   CheesesteakDude (CSD)
5.)   hbionic (AntiMustacheBitchers)
6.)   Reidme (Muffed Punts)
7.)   Satoshi (Cannibals)
8.)   Sgt. PSN (Stiffler's Pale Ale)
9.)   Diomedes (Brooklyn Huns)
10.) Sapp Hater (Beatin Your Azz)
etc.

*The method by which I generated this draft order:

In the past, if you see that your pick is say 3 picks away, and the draft is stalled, you can IM 4 players to the commish, assuring that one will be there. That should at least satisfy everyone until you can get back.

Except Sapp and Wing, who will have back to backs quite often, so remember to pick two players when necessary ...

That is all ........

Title: Re:CFFFL 2004 - AFC Draft Logistics Thread

I would prefer to have a master list in case you are unavailable to make your pick in a timely fashion, but a list is not required.

Speaking of timeliness, does anyone one have an opinion about time limits?  Not much has been said so far...does that mean that y'all think a formal time limit for picks is not needed?
Title: Re:CFFFL 2004 - AFC Draft Logistics Thread
Post by: satoshi on August 02, 2004, 07:43:57 PM
I think we had 24 hour time limit last year. I'm not sure though. Personally 12 hours are ehough for me, because we just have 8 people in our league.

I like to waste as much time as I can...purposely pissing people off....its a tactic I've developed over the years.  :sly

Yes...time limit is cool. It can be a bitch waiting around for people.  :paranoid

So it's clear:

CFFFL AFC draft begins Noon Sunday August 15th.  I'll post the thead in this forum.

I was just spying on the lesser CFFFL and noticed that they drafted defensive players....are we doing that as well or is it just something that they're doing over there because they suck and want to be cool like us?

Also, what are the roster limits going to be?

Noon eastern time correct?
Title: Re:CFFFL 2004 - AFC Draft Logistics Thread
Post by: Diomedes on August 12, 2004, 09:56:07 AM
Draft Date:
Sunday, August 15th Noon eastern.
I will start the draft thread in this forum.
I mean to move this draft along at a brisk clip.  17 Rounds will take a long time if people are dicking around and haven't sent a list.  So no dicking around, and send me a list if you think you might not be available to make your selection quickly.

Draft Hours:
"Open for Business" draft hours will start each day at 9 a.m. Eastern (except for this Sunday, when we start at Noon) and stop each day at 11 p.m. Eastern.  If you're on the clock when 11p.m. rolls around, then whatever time is left to you is the time you have after 9 the next morning to get your pick in.

Time limits:
You will have 8 hours to make your pick.  If you fail to make the pick, forcing me to take a player for you, you will be penalized by a two hour reduction to your time limit, meaning that the next time you're up, you'll have only six hours to make your pick.  Fail to make that pick in time, you get another two hours docked.  Keep farging around, and you'll have no time to make your picks and you'll get whatever team I give you.

Let's hope Wingspan get's his pick in, cuz he's going to complain if I'm forced to give him Quincy Carter.   :poison

5 min. left before I pick for Wingnut.  Longest eight hours in a long time.

I didn't think I'd have to do this at all, much less with the first pick.   :-[

RULES ARE RULES. WE HAVE TO OBEY THOSE, BUT I DON'T KNOW IF EVERY PLAYER UNDERSTANDS THE RULES. THIS SYSTEM DOESN'T WORK IF PEOPLE ARE COOPORATIVE. THIS CONF. HAS SOME ROOKIES, SO IT MIGHT TAKE A LONG TIME TO COMPLETE THE WHOLE DRAFT. GO FOR IT, DIO.

Draft hours are between 9 a.m. and 11p.m.  chuck_chillout went on the clock at 8 p.m. last night, which means he's got five hours today, starting at 9 a.m.  If his pick isn't made by 2 p.m.--he has not sent me a list--then his pick will be made automatically.

That's some interesting logic.  By this reasoning we would award Wingspan the player he would have taken with the first overall pick, despite the fact that he did not provide a list (as requested) and missed an 8 hour time limit during which nine people were made to wait, because the guy with the second overall pick, who also hasn't provided a list, is also making us wait.  How does that make sense?
The rules are clear.  We'll follow them, thanks.

Getting a random shot at a top 20 guy was plenty lenient.  You could have gotten Quincy Carter.

You've said that several times.  I believe that you think you sent it, but I did not recieve anything via IM or email.  I also checked the fantasy site itself, just in case you put a message there by accident or something.  Nothing there.
If I had gotten the pick, believe me I would have posted it.  No one wants to delay the draft.  I literally refreshed every 20-30 mins.

wah, wah, wah. Lets get on with it, so I can pick McNabb, TO, and Westy, to sit at the head of my table, as the triple headed monster of doom that will rip you all limb from limb and shtein down your necks. Then I come back with Akers, Eagles D, and Pinky to complete the table before I run it. Question, do I grab Chad or LJ in the late going? My guess is that if I get the first three, I could draft Bartrum as my TE and still smoke your azzes.

Nice pick with Vick.  :-* LT is gonna be huge.  :P Priest Holmes .... better grab Larry Johnson to back that old farg up.  :-X

Yeah, you can list them.
If you do post a pick after hours, the clock does NOT start for the next team until 9 the next morning.  THAT team could also make a pick before the morning rolls around and the same would hold for the person with the pick after them..they're up, but not on the clock until 9 a.m.
Also: I will not be available during off draft hours to answer questions, update the threads, or make picks as proxy.

uh...I posted that before you said anything.  But since you're looking for a beating: I'm tired of wasting hours at a clip--remember that I'm the one tied to the computer like Billy to the porch--because jokers like you don't bother to send lists.  How farging hard is it to give me five names?

I agree. You don't have 8 hours to pick, that 8 hours is in case you get stuck unexpectedly. I believe wingspan is on the clock, and only has 6 hours now. A list is not hard to do, especially if you update it. You see you are up in 4 picks, and you know you want Donovan, so you send a list with him, and 3 others just in case. Its not like you need to list 100 names at a clip.

We are running thru the weekend, right? This should have been over by now.

CSD lost his seventh pick. Well, considering he never delayed this draft, something bad might have happened. Hope he is okay.

Anyway, just four picks were made yesterday. It's killing me. Don't bother Dio. Use your list. If you don't know how to make it, ask your parents or children.

CSD gets docked two hours from his time limit for all further picks.

He selected Tatum Bell by random roll of top twenty available players from CNNSI.com's Top 75 list/mock draft.  There are no longer 20 available players on the top 75 list, so I'm now using their mock draft as an extension of that list.

hbionic is on the clock.

Hey Dio, I don't know if anyone brought this up before or not, but if you have 2 picks back to back (JTrotter and Wingspan) are you getting 8 hours for each pick or since they go one right after the other, are they being timed as one?  Just curious.   :)

Someone with time on their hands should add up each teams "time on the clock" taking out the overnight hours. That would settle the argument over who sucks the most. I have my guess ....  :-X

Title: Re: CFFFL 2004 - AFC Draft Logistics Thread

Lets say you are up next, and you make your pick, and you know you want to take a kicker with your next pick, and you want Tony Franklin. Your pick next pick is 8 picks away. You send a list to Dio, taking into account a worst case scenario, that everyone ahead of you takes kickers. That means send a list of 8 kickers, with Franklin on top. Easy? That way when you check back in, two rounds may have gotten done, instead of everyone waiting for your big pick.

Send a list for the next round, not the whole draft. This will help big time.

I'll post new threads for rounds 11-17 asap.  If we finish this round before I make the threads, please just be patient, take a break from the draft for a couple hours.  I'll have the stuff set up no later than early evening if work gets too busy.
If I can do it though, I'll try to set everything up during the day.

The thread for rounds 11-17 is now up.  Please finish Round 10 by posting in the original round 1-10 thread.  We'll begin using the new thread with the first pick of round 11.  I'll update the results on both threads until we begin round 11.  After that, only the new thread will be updated with results.

Technically, you're right.  But CSD sent his list to me, and I simply didn't have time to log and post from work today, so he doesn't get penalized.  I warned y'all that I'm back to work from vacation and I may not be able to ride herd on this draft like I did last week.  If I can't get to the draft for a while, then I can't get to it.

okay....to speed this up. i hearby sign over power of attourney to anyone in the AFC.

which means, if someone sees that it is my turn. you may make my last 4 picks, under these terms.

1) Defensive Player
2) Starter
3) If you select a player for me that is currently listed as a backup, as decided by the team's depth charts official website(on the date of the pic). when we match up, i may select ANY guy on your team to SIT on your bench.

have a nice day. and i will make my pics if i see that it is my turn...but i just dont have the time to keep looking. and this is gone on long enough.  ;)

In that case, I will draft the best available defensive starter for each of your remaining picks.  Since I'm running out of sources to use for random rolls, the criteria for "best available" will be my own judgement.  Don't worry, you won't be getting Jason Sehorn.   ;)
