Gave up a 4th and 6th to move up three spots for this guy.

Is this good?
I think it is, yes. We'll see.
Gruden says that Cox moves gap to gap.
Cox is gonna face stiff competition but he plays hard so he should be a big injection of talent.
They said Washburn was begging for Cox.
Was he on his knees?
I'm starting to think you guys are insinuating something else. I have a feeling you all love Cox. And penises.
Solid pick. They only had to part with a 4th and 6th and not a 2nd to move up. Cox dropped but so did Bunkley. I hope this isn't Bunkley part deux. Time will tell. Overall he was the guy I wanted most although I would have been happy with a bunch of other players too. Patterson and Jenkins are up there in age and they needed to get younger. Now get a LB with one of the 2nd's and maybe a CB.
in college he wrecked the pocket

Agree. Although they have a good group at DT, they can't get pressure up the middle and they don't get sacks. I didn't want then to get a DT unless it was it was a guy with potential to be top notch and get pass rush, otherwise why bother with other good choices on the board.

The one difference is that Cox wasn't playing on a defense that has talent like FSU always has.

bunk certainly was special in college...far and away a better playmaker than cox and much more athletic...his up the field burst was special...cox isnt going to ever take over games but should be solid and productive for a long time and very well end up being a better pro than bunk but in college there was no comparison
Bunk also dazzled with monster numbers on his bench press, and being cut completely looked the part. To end up a good pick Cox needs to be able to get to the QB. Otherwise he's just another Bunkley or Patterson.

Should have drafted that guy on the end.
Bunkley was a bad idea from the start.
Washburn: "I told Howie, 'I've coached Fletcher Cox my whole life. I've been in his house hundreds of times. All my life, what I've done'...somebody said what have you done with your life. I've coached southern black kids, that's what I've done."

Big Fat Cox?
Washburn loves the big black boys so much that he's allowed to be racist.
Washburn recognizes sterling black Cox when he sees it.
Not sure if it was posted, but Cosell loved the kid heading into the draft:
"He's incredibly athletic. He's got terrific body flexibility. He's got great quickness off the ball. He's quick and light on his feet. There are times he does not look like a 298-pound man. I think he has natural strength. He showed the ability to go from speed to power as a pass rusher. The thing that really stood out to me as well was how he was used at Mississippi State. There were times they lined him up at defensive end, and if you didn't know who he was and just watched him rush the quarterback from D-End, you would have said this guy can play D-End in the NFL and rush the quarterback. So, I think Fletcher Cox, to me, is the best defensive tackle prospect in this draft, and I'm not sure it's even close."
"He's an exploder, and he's tough. If they can't explode, I don't want 'em. If they don't love football, I ain't got no use for 'em. He explodes and he can play and he likes it and he's passionate," Washburn said Thursday night, when asked about Fletcher Cox, the 6-4, 296-pound defensive tackle from Mississippi State the Eagles traded up from 15th to 12th in the first round to draft. "When God made him, he meant him to play in this system right here."
I love the feeling I get when Cox explodes.

There's no way that whole Cox thing will ever get old, right? All of these Cox jokes are getting harder, but seem to have some staying power.

They should sign him to an extension soon. The longer they wait the more money it costs
not really....market is set....money will be not be significantly different whether they sign him now or in four months
hes getting around 50 mil guaranteed regardless of when he signs
They need to sign Thornton too. Believe he will be UFA
And how about some love for Bennie from the swamp? He's playing great
Cox looked like Reggie in his prime. Ultra disruptive. The Saints offensive linemen will be seeing him in their sleep tonite.
Both Rex Ryan and Richie Incognito pointed out postgame that Fletch single-handedly kicked their ass and was personally responsible for a lot of the penalties they drew.
Quote"Fletcher Cox, he ate my lunch today," Incognito said. "He really shows up on film and makes a lot of plays. I got to see it firsthand today. He got me early and often. I didn't play nearly up to my level. I'm man enough to say I didn't play well enough for this team to win."
Quote"I was laughing when I saw him being compared to Jerome Brown," coach Rex Ryan said, "but I'm not laughing now."
It's going to take a lot of money to keep this guy on the team. I hope the Eagles are setting it aside.
Chip's thinking hard about which wounded Duck he's going to get with all that money they won't spend on Cox.
the trillion dollars on three running backs is not gonna help
He's signed through next year, which is great because Chip can't* get rid of Murray until 2017.

That would best Suh's contract, which was signed only last year. I doubt he gets more than $115/6/50M.
The cap increases by $10M this year and next year. Cox has absolutely no incentive to take a hometown discount either. He's finally made the Pro Bowl (not that that makes a difference because it's a joke but it's still a wedge the agents use for comparison). He's usually on the "best of" DT lists every year. It's a perfect storm for him right now.
If his agent doesn't bend the Eagles over and drill them in the ass, then shame on him.
And by the way... he considers himself a defensive end. So there's that.

worth it or not?
its too much money for a non qb, but i guess they had a window to do it since wentz wont cost them much for another 4 years
they better draft well at wr. thats all i can say.
They might not be good again in any of those years, but hell you gotta start building somewhere.
still cant believe romey thought he was getting five million less than suh
Hopefully everybody realizes by now that "guaranteed money" is an absolutely meaningless term, right? I think it is fair to say he got several more years for a lot of money, some of which he will get up front. Without the specifics that's about the extent of it.
actually guaranteed money is the only thing that matters
Actually guaranteed money is a meaningless b******* term agents and players and teams used to bamboozle fandom. Signing bonus on the other hand is closer to what you're thinking about. For example Suh has about 26 million dollars of "guaranteed money" in the form of roster bonuses, but only if he's on the roster by the fifth day of the league year of that particular season. Otherwise the team can cut his ass before that and in a magical puff of smoke, the guaranteed money disappears.

I already said how I feel. I'm happy he got paid an obscene amount of dough for playing a kid's game that has the likely potential of making him a drooling cripple before he turns 50.
correct me if im wrong but if dallas paid someone this much money I feel like youd call it the worst signing in pro sports history
What makes you say that? Cox is a franchise player. They drafted him and the money is in line, or at least, it will be when the cap expands and other guys start signing mega-deals.
I'll criticize the hell out of deals they make for players who don't deserve the money but Cox is by far the best player on the team, so there's nothing to criticize here.
Sorry, big fella...
so fletch is worthy of being the highest paid non qb in the history of football?
I really don't think he is. J.J. Watt comes to mind. Gronk, Sherman, Kuechley are all better at different positions, but it's really irrelevant. He got the deal and the Eagles see him as the cornerstone of the franchise. I'm just glad it worked out for all concerned.
Igy looking for an argument today eh?
He gets like that once in a while.
I don't know why it's me considering I predicted the deal pretty closely and actually under-estimated it. Meh...
I was way closer to predicting it than you....it was a given he was getting more than suh who got 60
to think he would get five less than that is pretty silly
IGY's got picks. He's got the best picks. They're huge. Extravagant. Luxurious. Look at this lightweight Rome, what a chump.

and because of his age and the cap hit the eagles would get by cutting him hes going to make a lot more than that...even in year 3 its a 20 mil cap hit for cutting him and year four is still 12 mil....so hes almost assured of being in philly thru 2019 and even then he will only be 28
also eagles had the most money in the nfl committed to players BEFORE this deal...they now easily have the least 2017 monetary flexibility in the league
which isn't to say this was a terrible deal....its just how it is for them right now
Well, considering I hit the number dead on in terms of $17M per year and then said 60-70 million guaranteed might be low-balling it, I'd say I was pretty close.

At a glance, they could trade him this afternoon and they would 'only' take a $26 million cap hit. Which I'm guessing Howie would probably do if he were offered someone like Drew Brees.
NFC Defensive Player of the Month
He's no Mark Simoneau.
Rome, sometimes you get lucky and get me to crack a smile.
Mark Simoneau could kick field goals and extra points. I would like to see Fletcher Cox do that. Of course Simoneau was a linebacker so it's not really a fair comparison.
Sadly he was a better kicker than linebacker.
No sacks since week 5
Three roughing penalties on third down tho

Curry's been substantially worse. Would like someone to take Fletch aside though and explain that you can't take out your no-sack frustration on QBs 3 seconds after plays are over.

I saw my Uncle who's 57 out with his girlfriend who's 37. She's his driver now. She's hot, has tons of ink, and is a grease monkey.

Unless he's changed it out that has a Chevy motor in it. Which is utterly ridiculous.
could this dude be any more loveable?

Think this is the guy and his wife, he's in NC and his wife's pretty hot.

I don't know of any other. Probably why he spells his name with all lowercase. Definitely smart to not use correct grammar on your online resume.
Home Wrecker is a pretty solid nickname for a DT though.

Damn! We need to enjoy every snap this guy is on the field. Never thought we'd see anything close to JB or Reggie again but Cox is right there.

Glad to see Fletcher watching rather than driving. NO Eagles HOF D lineman in fast cars please. Never ends well.
The point, apparently, is to win. You need a driver behind the wheel not the rich guy owner. Besides, Fletcher would add what, another hundred pounds more even than Honey Buns here?
Fletch drove cars early and through college but I'm sure it's in his contract with the Eagles fo not get behind the wheel.
The blue car in the vid is sold. They run Fletch's brothers (who died back n 15) car (Gold Dust) now with a Pro Charger supercharger set up.
Minor quibble by me are they never run Ford engines. I hate when Mustang guys go LS or Hemi swaps. But that notchback coupe body is slight after bc it's light as hell.
Another is they are racing 1/8th mile. I prefer the 1/4. However to run sub 4 seconds in the 1/8th is god damn flying.
That class they'd running it in is also stock suspension. That's wild.

Wow...I missed that. That's pretty amazing.
I love Fletcher Cox and Brandon Graham both. Here's Fletch mic'd up against the 49ers...hilarious exchange with BG early on..."HEY!"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lx8H7cOshKM
Lol just came to post that. It's like a movie with the giant strongman that doesn't talk shtein and his annoying loudmouth smaller sidekick that he has to smack upside the head every once in a while :-D
BG always seems happier than any human I've met in real life.
One year deal, ten million. Took discount to stay is the story.

Retiring. Still has it but I don't blame him

Another legend gone. It's gonna be weird without him and Kelce around

12 seasons at DT, one franchise. Doubt we see that again for a long ass time. He becomes the Eagles benchmark for what you want from a defensive first round pick.
Between Cox, Kelce, and Graham next year, the Eagles have to replace nearly 600 games of experience. If Lane retires next year, make it 730+.
Just read this entire thread. The Cox jokes never got old. Too bad Fletch did.
A trip down memory lane. Remember when anyone gave a shtein about the salary cap like it was an actual thing? Such simpler times.
lol first time I've seen that
Beautiful
Will sure miss him but will not miss the constant heart attacks he gave us with his numerous post play lifeless corpse on the ground and we're all thinking "oh my God! Not good, he's down, this looks serious!" but back on the field two plays later moments.
What a great pick! Correct QB, the benchmark!
really bummed losing him and Kelce at the same time. My teen and early 20s years were defined by position players and BDawk, by late 20s-early 30s were defined by linemen, namely those two, Bg, and Lane.
You need to find better ways to define yourself. None of these people know you exist.
Well, Dio, we are all nerds for spending 22 years (or more) on this here message board.
