Sure, it's not really a sport but we might as well start one in case someone dies in a crash.
I met Kurt Busch last night at a bar here in Daytona. He was there with the Miller Lite bimbos. Those dudes are small and skinny. I'm talking PhillyGirl tiny.

It should be a sport though. It's either a marathon or a sprint, depending on the type of training you have. Either way, you're physically exhausted when it's done and need water and sleep.

I thought that NASCRAP's "minor league" was the Busch Series.....thus the term "that's busch league." Of course, with the way corporate sponsors turnover these days, I wouldn't be surprised if that's the case.
I have no interest in the sport at all but I would like to go to a race one of these days. Any day that features drunk naked chicks galore and fast cars can't be that bad. There's no possible way it can be as bad or worse in person than on tv.
Nationwide replaced Busch as the sponsor this year. yeah, it's the "minor leagues" where the cars aren't as powerful and they run less laps, but they can't find enough teams to fill the field so half the drivers are the Sprint Cup regulars getting extra practice for Sunday...
That's Nationwide league. Hmmmm, just doesn't roll of the tongue quite as well.
Rednecks. All of you.
NASCAR is trying to get away from the beer and tobbacco, thats why it's the Sprint Cup and not the Winston Cup, and why they did away with Bush beer.
Good farging luck. If they ever banned beer from the track they'd burn it down.
I read today that it's only a matter of time until Pocono is retired. The drivers hate it or some shtein.

im honestly not sure if there is something worse than auto racing and that includes religion and munson
I know nobody cares, but NASCAR made more changes this season:
-- The points system was changed since rednecks could understand the intervals and normal people couldn't. Now you get 43 points for 1st place, 42 for 2nd, 41 for 3rd, and so on (plus the extra points for leading laps and winning)
-- Two "wildcards" were added to the Chase "playoff" system since some drivers that won a few races were eliminated while those that didn't were allowed in
-- After complaints of the main Sprint drivers stealing all the championships from the AAA-level drivers in Nationwide, everyone now has to pick one series or the other for collecting points, although vets will still be allowed to participate in the Nationwide races for practice
turn left!

There are things far worse than auto racing Aids and child molestation come to mind. I actually used to like racing quite a bit, don't really care anymore. That being said going to a race is definitely fun. If you like to drink that is.
but even trashed out of your skull where is the fun watching cars going around in a circle 700 times.
horseracing is cool to see because its one lap. maybe of they had nascar at 10 laps it might be exciting. sure the race would be over quick, but you got a hell of race.
I can't think of a worse way to kill a day or a buzz then to sit around with a bunch of rednecks watching cars go in a circle. If you're going to do that at least watch drag racing which is superior in every facet.

Contrary to popular belief it isn't all rednecks there. And I don't know if you still can, but you used to be able to carry in your own coolers of booze. It certainly isn't for everyone, but if you like to party chances are would at least have a decent time going to one.
I have no interest in watching a race on TV anymore, but I would definitely go to another race.
Yep, thats really the main reason to go, you can byob so your main cost is a ticket/parking. Outside of that its a big party where everyone is cooking out, getting drunk. I'll never watch a race on TV, but in person its pretty fun. I dont give a shtein about the cars other than its fun watching them crash, but you go to races for the people.

yup, everyone thinks it's still the 70s and 80s where everything is from a red state. There's tracks in those rednecky areas of the Poconos, Dover, Michigan, New Hampshire, Sonoma and Watkins Glen. Jimmie Johnson and Jeff Gordon (9 combined championships between them) are from California. Carl Edwards and Jamie McMurray are from MA Missouri. And unlike most pro sports, these guys usually don't hold back and give politically correct cliches if they just lost several hundred thousands dollars in a wreck because someone wasn't paying attention. There's no way I'll watch a whole race, but I might check out the first couple laps, the last 5 or so and maybe some in between. I started following it in '98 because all the Philly teams sucked and my co-workers were into it, but now that all the teams are good again (and my MA office job has maybe 2 fans), it's back to being really low on the sports priority list.
btw if you hear sobbing rednecks today, it was 10 years ago that Earnhardt was killed at Daytona
nascar is not that redneck anymore, in fact it has gotten quite corporate over the last few years with plenty of races and races well above the mason dixon line. no doubt the southern races would bring out more rebel flags and all but i would only go to pocono or maybe dover and only if it was for free just for the party in the infield. i wouldnt care about the race, in fact knowing me i'd be more then likely be puking and trying to drink myself straight during it.
there's one racer i check on, martin truex jr. he's not that good but he's an avid eagles fan.

Damn, your honor. It was only 80 mph over the speed limit
QuoteNASCAR points leader Kyle Busch lost his driver's license for 45 days on Tuesday for driving 128 mph on a road close to a day-care center and church in a nearly $400,000 car. His lawyer said his client was not treated "like any other citizen."
Busch, who doesn't need a license to compete in NASCAR, also was fined $1,000, sentenced to 30 hours of community service and put on one year of unsupervised probation. He pleaded guilty to speeding and no contest to reckless and careless driving in North Carolina District Court in Iredell County.
Busch addressed the court before his sentencing by District Court Judge H. Thomas Church, apologizing again for driving 128 mph in a 45 mph zone in a bright yellow 2012 Lexus on May 24.
"I think you'll be different in the future," Church said.
"I sure will, your honor," Busch replied.
Busch and his wife, Samantha, were in the car when he was pulled over on a two-lane road in an area near a subdivision, a day-care center and a church. The hand-built LFA sports car was on loan to Busch from Lexus for a 24-hour test drive.
Busch attorney Cliff Homesley argued that his client wasn't being treated the same as other people in similar circumstances, citing a July case of a 21-year-old convicted felon who was caught doing 128 mph and received a $300 fine and no loss of license.
"In 25 years of practicing law I've never seen someone not being offered better than this," Homesley argued before the court. "All I am asking is to treat Kyle Busch like any other citizen that appears before the court."
Homesley, calling Busch one of the best drivers in the world, said: "He had full control of that vehicle at all times.
"That automobile in his hands was like a scalpel in the hands of a surgeon. Not a knife in the hands of a 5-year-old."
I had tried a while ago to find out if having a valid drivers license was a requirement to be a nascar driver but couldn't. Good place to have all this info.
I have a problem with the lawyer's logic:
QuoteHomesley, calling Busch one of the best drivers in the world, said: "He had full control of that vehicle at all times.
"That automobile in his hands was like a scalpel in the hands of a surgeon. Not a knife in the hands of a 5-year-old."
Race car drivers typically don't have to worry about pedestrians, kids on bicycles or cross traffic. On the track, they're on a closed course with everyone going in the same direction and there's practically no interference or obstructions on the course. While a driver like Busch could certainly handle a car at high speeds far better than I could, he has just as much control over pot holes, stray animals, on coming traffic or idiot kids as I do......none.
And since he's a pro driver, he should get hit harder than normal people.
J. R. Hildebrand was part of the crash that killed Dan Wheldon. Revenge?
Oddly enough, the broadcast was showing the view from Wheldon's car at the start of the crash, then they quickly switched out to a shot of the entire mess.

My buddy called me this morning and invited me to the race tomorrow. Same seats as last year right in front of the start/finish line. This year's tickets come with passes to victory lane after the race ends plus the after-party.
Mock?
Even though I don't find anything entertaining about NASCAR, I only mock people who watch it on TV and wear the jackets of their favorite corporate entities drivers. Going to a race every now and then is pretty cool though, mostly for the pre/post race festivities. Redneck Mardi Gras. Hey, tits are tits regardless of how many teeth are in the mouth above them.
I'm not a fan of it either but it's free and the seats are pretty much the best in the house (other than the Super Box tickets which I've sat in before).
It's like being invited to go to the Super Bowl and being given tickets at the fifty yard-line. You go whether you're a fan or not.

I saw him at the bar last night and he was all decked out with his team racing jacket, shirt, hat, etc. Not sure which driver he roots for but Crown Royal seems to be the major sponsor. This also means that everything the guy was wearing was purple. He's a big dude so he basically looked like Barney if Barney had a job as a billboard. I wanted to have a little fun with him so I asked him how much Crown Royal pays him to wear the jacket, hat and shirt. He said they don't. So then I asked him if they gave him all the gear for being a fan and he told me that he spent about $500 total on everything he was wearing. This NASCAR thing is a racket....fans spending money to advertise for corporations.

You forgot the Eagles thong
Point taken. But the big difference is that I'm rooting for the Eagles while NASCAR fan is rooting for the driver. The guy with the Crown Royal jacket doesn't even drink the stuff. He just likes the driver. So yeah, he paid good money to give free advertising for a product he doesn't even like.
also if you are wearing pro sports gear it should be to rep your city not the team....i dont give a farg about the eagles....i root for philly.....in nascar you are rooting for one person....and dont ever be on another mans jock
lolwut
that was a pretty cool fireball tonight. i don't know dick about nascar but why did that jet truck or whatever it's called have 200 gallons of gas in it?
It has a jet engine pointed down to dry the track surface with its exhaust.
It had two hundred gallons of jet fuel on board when it got hit. It's actually a miracle the driver of the truck didn't get killed when Montoya hit him square on.
I had a good time last night despite the fact that the race was fairly uneventful.

Congrats to the Illinois native Danica Patrick on her win today. The first female to win in a big race with this magnitude. Big win
When people corrected him saying she only won the pole for next week's Daytona 500, he got pissed
Quotedonovanjmcnabb
To all the haters, in order to qualify you need to win and beat someone. Hmmm. Ponder on that one. Smh
Awesome
can he die already
jesus christ what a horrible person
best thread ever
McNabb talk some how makes its way into a NASCAR thread. This board, like a race car, is just running in circles.
someone tell him the daytona 500 can end in a tie
Going to the 500 again tomorrow. Our seats are just above where the 17 patrons got injured today.

more things white people do
Brad Daughtery may the the only black dude in America who likes NASCAR.
Pretty sure this Darrell Wallace Jr (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/mobileweb/2013/02/19/darrell-wallace-jr-fourth-black-nascar-driver_n_2719281.html) dude likes it too.

Like the people in the video, NEVER put down your smart phone while filming carnage two feet from you while you could be assisting and NEVER put down your Bud Light during a disaster.
Jesus, seen tires fly into the grand stands before but never an entire engine block.
Jimmie Johnson won his 6th title in 8 years
Big news among the rednecks: Austin Dillon is expected to jump to Sprint Cup next year and drive the #3....something nobody's done since DALE died
This thread wasn't posted in one single time DURING the season.
Delete this white trash thread.
merge it with the "what the farg is wrong with people" thread.
This thread is great.
I count on it for all my NASCAR news.
how soon until nascar becomes the so-uncool-its-cool hipster sport of choice?
2 weeks? 2 months?
QuoteMichael Schumacher is fighting for his life after he fell and hit his head on a rock while skiing with his son.
The former-Formula One driver was in a coma after having emergency surgery to treat a brain haemorrhage, his management said.
His family were gathering around him, while medical sources confirmed he was in a 'critical state'.
Damn that sucks
Jeff Gordon announced this morning that the upcoming season will be his last full-time one
almost 13 months between posts.
HOT TOPIC !
Check the other CF, they like white dudes chasing each other in circles
im good, i got my fill with these two posts in here.
2nd most popular market for nascar is philadelphia
gearheads are out there
id have to see a link to believe that statement.
just step outside your trailer park or whatever chain smoking working class irish enclave you live in and ask your neighbors how much they enjoy the sport with no stillupfronts
I've yet to meet one person in philly who watches nascar.

same here....but they call it pennsyltucky for a reason...you don't have to go too far out in the burbs before you start seeing dale jr car flags...and there is something called the pocono 500
great and none of that even comes close to proving that philadelphia is the #2 market in nascar like the grammar murdering todd claimed.

Outside of Philly agreed...bunch of hicks who love that shtein. But philly peops whether they're in the city or in the burbs don't give two shteins about nascar. Never heard one conversation about nascar and have never gone to a sports bar and seen it on.
nascar is very niche....you either like it or you dont
if you dont like it, its very easy to avoid it and never interact with people who like it.
so it went from the #2 market claim to it's a niche sport pretty quick.
its a niche sport in every market, even charlotte.....do you know what the word niche means.
hockey is a niche sport, too. you either like it or you dont. there is no bandwagon aspect to nascar like there is pretty much every other sport.
still nothing on that #2 market claim.
gotcha

So untrue about hockey and an awful analogy. I know tons of casual hockey fans

yeah its non existent in the city....but lil guy's world revolves around markets in general and specifically television so maybe he was talking about the philly "market" vs. the philadelphia the city
he'd still be wrong. the philly market is so low it's not mentioned in any ratings source for nascar even when the races are at pocono or dover.
you sound upset
i read a story years ago that said philly was the #2 market for nascar behind charlotte
thats my source material.

the philly market extends to the lv, into lancaster, central jerz and further south than white trash POS munson delaware. its pretty farging big.
philly the city i cant imagine its huge but there is no way to breakdown a market in that specificity.
Anyone taking 10 seconds to do a Google search would discover you're full of shtein as usual, Junior.
Philly isn't even in the top 20 of cities because people outside the deep south don't give a rat's ass about this retarded sport. Hell, I live 5 minutes from the epicenter and even I don't give a farg. I've gone in the past because I got free tickets and booze and it's fun to watch motherfargers doing 200 MPH crash, but anyone watching this shtein on television should be ritually sterilized.
I was able to find a couple articles from the early 2000s.
One said Philly has the second highest NASCAR ratings among the top 20 markets, for the biggest five races.
Another said Philly had the highest ratings (but not largest raw numbers) in the top 7 markets.
So the info is old and the result of some carefully sliced and diced statistics. It's probably true that a higher percentage of Philly market people watch NASCAR than in Boston, Denver, or San Francisco, but it's still tiny compared to their core markets.
I forgot to mention the Rolex 24 is this weekend. It's raining cats and dogs now but it's gonna clear out and then it's going to be in the 30s tonight.
The cars in this race are cool as hell and it's pretty much the opposite of rednecky crowds.

nobody lives in their core markets
a 7 rating in philly is higher than a 20 rating in greensboro
