I just can't believe how cold the Cards were last night -- from pitching, to bats, to missed plays. Had Mulder thrown to third instead of first on the bunt, who knows how the game woulda turned out? I'm pissed about the bad call at second with the missed tag, but it really was inconsequential in the grand scheme of things.

High school football gets more love than baseball in The Republic of Texas. Baseball is a way to pass time until he kids get out there on Friday nights.
But i think and hope Oswalt shuts them down tonight. I don't put much into the whole NL vs. AL angle because Ozzie played and coached in the NL. So he knows how to use guys. And the Sox aren't losing much by Everett being out of the lineup.
I think I'm taking Oswalt and the under (7) tonight.

Ok, I lied. I ended up taking The White Sox and the over tonight. The Astros are bitching about the roof too much for my liking. Plus the odds on the Sox are great (+167) and for laying 20 on that and the over (7) I can win $80.
But I backed it up by taking the Astros -1.5 and the under. A $10 bet on that wins me $33 so if I lose the first one I still win $13 overall.

I finally succummbed to a little bit of much-needed sleep last night, but had the TV on and woke up intermittently. The game ended at 7:20am UK time! Don't know what to say but GO BLUM! the astros left about a dozen guys on base. At one point chris burke wound up stealing 3rd, leaving a man on 1st and 3rd with 1 out. Ugly.

Part of the Latin American culture is very demonstrative in expressions of affection among family, and even friends.
I get a chuckle at some of my parent conferences, because you can see the cultural evolution with some of the parents, who were raised in their native culture, and the student, who has a lot of "American" influence. The parents, mom and dad, kiss their sons, but you can tell that the son is embarrassed by the semi-public display.
Teens are teens everywhere, I guess. :D

i can understand why people think it's boring. but i've played it my whole life and still love it. not more than football, but i love baseball.
OK, if you've played the game your whole life, there isn't much anyone can do to convince you otherwise. But I played the game for the majority of the time I was growing up. Played on several little league travel teams and to this day know as much about the sport as just about anyone (within reason, don't start nitpicking, ass). And I still find it unbearably boring.
Anyone who hasn't ever seen a hurling match, do whatever you have to to take one in. Travel to Scotland if you must. It's friggin awesome.

It's some insane combination of lacrosse, rugby, aussie rules football and field hockey. The first game I ever watched, some dude wound up and took a shot at the goal from about 6 yards away and NAILED the goalie in the face with a ball that is about the size and density of a field hockey ball (in other words kind of big and HARD). The dude went down in a heap, trainers rush out, blood everywhere, they use smelling salts to wake him up. Hurling is, indeed, an awesome sport - as is Gaelic football, Aussie Rules football, but God help you if you call hurling a "British" sport if you are ever in Ireland. ;) BTW, baseball is NOT the most boring team sport ever created, that honour belongs to cricket. The Sox fans have been very good about celebrating, from what I've heard no arrests have been made, just some guy who dislocated his shoulder from high fiving people (not kidding). Fans around my work on the south side have signs in their car and homes, just a lot of smiles on everyones faces, well except the cub fans down here >:D
It's about to get FREAKIN NUTS here in downtown Chicago. They've got giant ticker tape cannons set up and there's more White Sox gear than i've seen in my ten years here in the Windy City. Jeebus! I did see a guy wearing a Cubs hat on my way to work. I'm sure he's been beaten and thrown in a dumpster since then.
