Every year the draft comes and none of us have any clue who the Eagles are selecting. Pretty sure none of us speculated them taking Maclin/Graham/Watkins in the first round over the past 3 seasons. Every year I say to myself "I'll bet they take this guy" then they surprise us all by taking someone totally different. This year the hot name seems to be Fletcher Cox. While I do believe the Eagles have some interest in him, I don't know that he falls to 15. Maybe they ship a 3rd off and move up to grab him.
So go on record with who your pick is going to be and let's see if any of us nails it.
I'm thinking, like chuggie, that they like Cox. He fits their scheme well and seems like a logical selection. I just don't see him being there when they pick and I doubt they ship a 2nd to move up to get him...a 3rd would be reasonable but the question is does that move you up far enough to grab him. For some reason I see Coples falling out of the top 10...maybe it's character issues or whatever, but I see him being in the Eagles range and him being their pick. We all know the Eagles usually select smaller 'fastball' type players at DE, but they were interested in Peppers a few seasons ago, and Coples is comparable. With Graham being an unknown and the Eagles holding such high regard for the DE position I think Coples is their guy...especially considering they haven't really been linked to him.
think: kirkpatrick
want: brockers
I think Brockers falls to the 20-30 range
nice....the eagles shouldnt have a problem gettin him at 15 then
I wouldn't hate him at 15 although I think they can trade back and still get him
As far as Barron goes, I wouldn't have a problem with him being the pick at 15th. But when you have a weak draft class at a position and especially a position like Safety players go higher than they should. If this were a deeper draft then Barron would probably be a late 1st early 2nd, but because this draft is weak he'll probably go to Dallas at 14. If he slipped to the 20's I'd have no problem with the Eagles trading their early 2nd and 3rd to move up to grab him.
Want: Barron
Think they pick: Brockers
Darkhorse: trade up for Gilmore

lol...you keep saying this but almost universally barron is rated in the top 15 prospects of the entire draft
if you think hes overrated i completely understand...everyone rates players differently....if you think he will drop because of need or some other factors i get that too
but you are insinuating that hes ranked like the 40th best player in the draft and is only going high because its a weak safety class....and that couldnt be further from the truth
It makes perfect sense. In the draft world Safety's aren't as valuable as other positions like DT/DE/CB on defense. Historically teams find very good safety's in the 2nd and 3rd rounds. Taking a safety early is only a must if the guy is a can't miss prospect. Do you think he's a better prospect than Earl Thomas? I don't think he's even close and Thomas went 14 in 2010 which was the last good safety draft. Teams reach for needs when the middle rounds are scarce at a position of need. After Barron there's a huge drop in safety talent which makes him that much more valuable.
I don't know the name of the player they'll be drafting but I can say with almost perfect certainty that we'll all be frustrated and angry about the decision in 2 or 3 years.

all thats legit...i thought you were saying he wasnt worthy of the 15th pick
all im saying is throw out the position the year and all the other factors that go into a pick...just as far as his rating hes a legit top 20 pick this year....its not like hes carrying a second round grade but might go top 15 because theres no safties....he is legitimately ranked in the top 20 overall prospects in the whole draft
When is the draft?

Oh, okay. Starts on Frosty's birthday. Thanks.
Errands.
Never ran one in my life. I got people for that. All I do is watch football.
I'm changing my pick to Brockers. Cox is going in the top 10, and Coples is probably taken by 15. After Cox I'd take Poe but he doesn't fit the mold of an Eagles DT. I think Brockers is there at 15 and that's who they pick.
I officially don't care about the draft. Again. farg the front office.
Im going Barron--and if they dont take him Ill put money on it the Jets scoop him up right after the Eagles and make him an all-pro.
I think Barron goes 14 to Dallas
I do too...but I am hoping they take a DL or perhaps DeCastro
i believe the last time a guard has gone in the top 15 was 1997
Which one of the guys above has the best motor? I choose him.
I voted for Luke Kuechly for no reason other than you can factor out the first four letters of his first name out of his last name and you're left with CHY. CHY can be transported onto the word Coo and get 'COOCHY'. If you add 'OOCHY' to that, you get a guy who's name is 'OOCHY-COOCHY'. What a fag.
none of the above
some white piece of shtein

Wtf? Stay outta my Maker's.
Ray Diddy was on with Gargano and Macnow and said he's hearing that Dallas will take Brockers if he's there. He also said the Eagles will try to trade up for Cox but ultimately he thinks they'll fall short.
Assuming Dallas takes Brockers and someone else takes Cox, Kalil, Claiborne, Blackmon, Tannehill, RG3, Luck, Richardson, are locks to go in the top 10, a few other teams might take guys like Decastro/Reiff, players like Kuechly, Barron, Poe, Ingram, Gilmore, Coples has to drop. I'd be fine with any of those players but realistically the Eagles aren't selecting Kuechly, Poe's not a fit for what they run, Ingram probably doesn't fall that far, and I can't see the Eagles taking Barron meaning they'd have used a 1st round pick and 2 2nd rounders on a Safety within the last 3 seasons...just very uncharacteristic of them. So one of Coples or Gilmore could be there. Who do you take at that point? I like Coples but Gilmore is unquestionably the second best CB in the draft and getting him at 15 would be a steal.
if that happens barron is the no brainer pick
in fact i keep going back n forth btwn barron and brockers as the guy i want and today im back to barron...i like him as the pick best for them because of the upgrade he would provide....its the one position where immediately youd be like holy shtein they went from that (coleman) to THIS (barron)....it would be a sick jump and a guy who is a starter from his first day of mini camp thru the next five years (assuming he pans out)
Yeah if it goes down like that Barron has to be the guy.
My worry with Brockers is it seems as if people doubt he will be a pass rusher. He seems to be in the Mike Patterson mould of occupying space and defending the run.
Cox and Barron are my top two
brockers is a 6-6 310 21 year old man child beast....him and patterson should never be mentioned together again
and i dont think many people would say that brockers wont rush the passer one day...he just didnt do from the tackle position in college a lot...hes only played one year at DT...hes a project in the pass rush game...but from day one he would be the best run stopper on the eagles...if the kid is willing to learn from him washburn can make him into the best defensive player in the draft...in fact he has the highest upside of anyone in the draft imo other than the two qb's and richardson...think richard seymour in his prime
id be fine with cox but i put him a level below brockers one because of the higher ceiling brockers has and two because cox is almost to versatile imo...its almost like he could play everywhere on the line but doeesnt really belong anywhere...this feeling could easily be brought on by years of watching the eagles stupid line rotation where guy are moved inside and outside depending on down and distance and coming in and out of the gme from different spots...dropping into coverage
gimme a guy i can plug into a single position who will play at or near and all pro level for the next ten years
name me the last defensive or hell even offensive player (mcnabb?) the eagles scooped in the first that played at or near all pro level for 10 years
who cares?
no one is saying either of these guys will do that....the point is that brockers has the chance...cox has less bust potential but also most likely will never be dominant
either would be a fine pick
im just saying lower your expectations a bit because it would be a shot in the dark--esp for the eagles
again....completely missing the point
there were absolutely no expectations mentioned...just merely pointing out why i favor brockers over cox

whos missing a point? did you not say this? I dont care what player you were talking about. youre asking for ANYBODY that can play a position at or near all pro level for the next 10 years, in which I said hold your breath this the eagles we are talking about. jesus christ.

no i said brockers has all pro potential and is a DT thru and thru....cox i said i dont think quite has that ceiling...so id rather have the guy who can lock in at a set position for the next ten years and play at a super high level versus the guy who is much more versatile but maybe wont be as good

Tra Thomas in 98. Keith Jackson in 88. No one defense in the 1st round since Jerome in 87. Maybe Lito, on D but that's it.
Sad.
Andrews would have, if he didn't have jelly for brains.

At DT, we gonna luv us sum Dixon Cox.
So, Cox is Brandon Graham, and Brockers is JPP?

god no
brockers = richard seymour
cox = bryant young
We should have known that with the thread being in this state prior to the draft, the Eagles would pick Cox with Brockers on the board. IGY basically stone cold locked that shtein.
I'll bet they take Fletcher Cox.
